Populus euphratica (scientific name: Populus euphratica), also known as Hutong (Han Shu), hero tree, heterophyllous poplar, heterophyllous poplar, water tung, and trifoliate tree. It is a deciduous medium-sized natural tree, a plant of the subgenus Populus of the genus Populus in the family Salicaceae. It is cold-resistant, drought-resistant, salt-alkali-resistant, and wind-resistant, and has strong vitality. It is widely distributed in the temperate and warm-temperate desert areas in western China. In early January 2013, a thousand-year-old king poplar was discovered in the Danish Populus euphratica forest area at the intersection of three rivers in Awati County.

It may also be that I came a little early. The poplar forest is yellow with green, green with yellow, or light green, or light yellow, or dark yellow, staggered and colorful. If I come later, it will be golden.

The sea of red willows at Sandaoqiao is not a single tree, but a bush. Each tree forms a bush with messy branches, overlapping and intertwined, growing crowded together in the desert. Their branches are as flexible as ropes and as soft as whips.

The further you go in, the taller and denser the red willow branches grow, and the more they appear in clusters. The colors begin to vary in depth, with light gold, crimson, lavender, orange, brown, and other different colors changing at will, showing the unique charm of the Northwest's flourishing red and green in autumn and winter.

The Hero Forest in Sidaoqiao is another sight. The trunks of the trees are thick and tall, some of which are difficult for several people to hug. They are 15 to 20 feet high, and look like dragons leaping and dancing wildly. In Zhang Yimou's blockbuster "Hero", Maggie Cheung and Zhang Ziyi are fighting in red clothes among the golden poplar trees. The scene is really beautiful.

The more I visit a beautiful place, the more nervous I feel. I want to spend more time to appreciate its beauty and grandeur. But when I set foot on this land, I know that we have too little time to appreciate its beauty.

It was the best time to see the poplars. It felt like all the tourists from China had gathered in this place. It was so crowded. Fortunately, the scenic area was very large. If you didn't take a map and walked by feeling, you would get lost.

In one day, we only walked to the fourth bridge where the in-depth gameplay was located. We didn't have time to walk through several bridges later. If you want to see it properly, it is recommended to spend two days.

The tour guide said that the best time to take photos is from 7 to 9 in the morning, so we decided to get up early. We went to the Populus euphratica forest scenic area early to avoid the peak of population. After all, it is the National Day, and this is when the Populus euphratica is the yellowest. There must be many people who choose to come here to play at this time.



The Populus euphratica forest scenic area is very large, with the First Bridge, the Second Bridge, and all the way to the Eighth Bridge. The First, Second, Third, and Fourth Bridges can be walked, which takes about three to four hours. Among them, the Reflection Forest at the Second Bridge and the Hero Forest at the Fourth Bridge are very beautiful. Then you can take a car directly to the Seventh Bridge and the Eighth Bridge (the Sixth Bridge is temporarily closed) to see the Dream Forest and the Sand Sea Forest. It will take a whole day to walk all of them, so be sure to prepare dry food in advance and keep your strength up.

As we approached Ejina, we began to see scattered poplar trees on the highway, and there was also a special viewing platform. The poplar trees in Ejina are famous, and they would definitely be packed during the National Day holiday. It’s not the season yet, so we just checked in at the entrance. After dinner, we took an aerial photo of the poplar forest scenic area opposite. It is indeed very large, but not spectacular in this season (it was taken against the light).

Firstly, it was not the season, and secondly, it was getting dark, so there were only a few tourists in the scenic area. Unlike the short and branchless poplar trees we saw in the depths of the desert, most of the poplar trees here are tall and lush, and they stretch into a forest, which looks quite large. There are many trees that can be hugged by two or three people. I think there should be hundreds of years of history. It can be seen that this is a relatively primitive poplar forest that has been protected. Walking along the plank road in the scenic area, the twisted branches are vigorous, the thick shade covers the sun, and the school is full of vitality. But I always feel that the poplar forest here is missing something. Recalling that in order to resist the wind and frost in the desert, the branches and leaves are almost stripped off, leaving only the short but hard and sturdy body, standing stubbornly in the scorching sun, cold wind, and endless yellow sand. The pampered poplars here are tall and straight, but lack a bit of pride. In comparison, I prefer the unruly and indomitable lives in the desert.

We only walked around a small part of the scenic area in an hour and a half, and it was dark. There were no other tourists and no street lights. The forest was quiet and we would not be able to find the way if we went out later.

The Ejina Populus euphratica forest is so huge that you need a certain amount of physical strength and patience to play with it. Even if you are determined to leave the forest at sunset, you can't see everything. Therefore, it is very necessary to play the essence, avoid peak hours, and save energy. Only by focusing on the key points can you truly feel the beauty of Populus euphratica's life and make the trip worthwhile.

Ejina Banner Populus euphratica forest scenic area, in October 2017, during the National Day holiday, I traveled more than 2,000 kilometers from Chengdu to see the golden autumn scenery of the Populus euphratica forest, just to see the distant place I longed for. After arriving, I spent a day playing from the first bridge to the eighth bridge. To be precise, I went to the eighth bridge to watch the sunrise first, then returned to the first bridge, and walked from the first to the second and then to the fourth and eighth bridges. The first bridge is the starting point, where I set up a tent to take pictures of the starry sky. The second bridge is the most beautiful in the entire Populus euphratica forest scenic area, with the most Populus euphratica trees and the largest and most luxuriant Populus euphratica forest. Fortunately, there is a poplar forest scenic spot in Ejin Banner. It was still early when we arrived at the entrance of the scenic spot by navigation. The key point is that this season is off-season. There are a few cars parked sparsely at the entrance. I didn't even see a shadow, and it seemed very quiet. After parking the car and going to the bathroom, I went to buy tickets leisurely. The staff at the ticket window also looked exhausted. After buying the tickets, I asked the direction of the ticket gate and drove to the entrance of the scenic spot. When I drove the car to the ticket gate, a strong wind blew up and the sky became dark in a blink of an eye. The ticket checker was very incredible when he saw us. He said that there would be sandstorms and heavy rain soon, and advised you not to go in. The tickets can also be used tomorrow. After thinking about it, the tickets have been bought and cannot be refunded. We have to rush early the next day... When I was struggling, the wind was getting stronger and stronger, and the rain had begun to fall. The tickets in my hand were also blown away by the strong wind. I hurried to chase them, but I only caught one back, and the other one could not be found no matter what. In the storm, there were only two of us at the entrance of the scenic area. The ticket inspector hid in the cabin and closed the door, feeling very frustrated. I ran to knock on the door and discuss with the ticket inspector. He suggested that if we must go in, we should wait in the car until the rain stops. He really didn't dare to let us in in such a stormy weather. We thought it was the only way. I told him about the ticket being blown away. He looked at the remaining ticket and expressed his understanding. He told us not to worry and we could go in as soon as the rain stopped. But then he said that it hadn't rained here for three or four months, and the rain this time would not be too small. We should be mentally prepared... Fortunately, the waiting time was not as long as we imagined. The wind and rain came and went quickly. In less than an hour, the rain began to get smaller. I got off the car and felt it. The wind had stopped and I could basically go out with an umbrella. About half an hour after entering the park, the rain stopped completely. The whole process of rainfall was very similar to the feeling of Wukong calling the wind and rain in the battle of Chechi Kingdom in Journey to the West. It came and went quickly, and the precipitation was sufficient. The clouds and fog dissipated for a while, and the sun came out again. It was 5:30 in the afternoon, and the local sunset was after 8:30, which was more than an hour later than Beijing, so there was still plenty of time for sightseeing. At this time, the benefits of heavy rain weather appeared. There were only two of us and a dog in the park. It was quiet and empty, and the air was moist and fresh. We simply let the dog run and play by himself. Basically, it followed us wherever we went, or ran to the front in advance to wait. The sun was setting in the west, and it was very pleasant to walk in the middle of the poplar forest against the warm sunset.

When we walked into the Ejina Populus euphratica forest tourist area, we saw several women in red posing under each tree. You can ride a camel from the First Bridge to the Second Bridge, or walk along the wooden plank road, but it will be farther. The route of the district bus changes every day. The route we took on the day we went was Seven, Eight, Four, and One, and we couldn't return to the Second Bridge to watch the sunset. The Fourth Bridge is where Zhang Yimou's "Hero" was filmed. The Seventh Bridge is a dream forest. There is a large wetland in the area. Populus euphratica grows in the water. The sun shines down, and a thin layer of mist appears on the water, like a dream. This is also my favorite area. Badaoqiao is a corner of the Badain Jaran Desert. Although it is a desert, it has become crowded after being designated as a tourist area, with people standing on every sand dune.

The Populus euphratica forest scenic area is very large, and is divided into the First Bridge, the Second Bridge, and all the way to the Eighth Bridge. You can take the scenic area bus to any scenic spot. Generally, you take the bus to the Eighth Bridge first, and then travel back. We entered from the gate and wanted to tour on foot first. We were afraid of the heat at noon, so we only wore a single piece of clothing and pants. The temperature outside was only 3 degrees. I was so cold that I couldn't open my mouth, and my hands and feet were out of control. The temperature difference between morning and evening was too big, and it was impossible to take care of all four seasons in one day in the Populus euphratica forest. It was freezing cold under the shade of the trees and hot under the sun.

As soon as we entered the scenic area, we saw poplar trees of various shapes. Some of the leaves were yellow, and some were yellow and green. They were particularly beautiful under the sunshine and blue sky! Very shocking! The first bridge and the second and third bridges are basically together. There is a river at the second bridge. The bright yellow poplar trees are reflected in the river, which is reflected by the blue sky. It is very beautiful! At the third and fourth bridges, there is a hero forest, which is the location of the movie "Hero". The scenery there is the best. The fifth bridge is the Mongolian culture display area, with more than a dozen yurts. Some of them are marked as Mongolian style gardens, and most of them are food stalls. I thought it was meaningless and came out. We walked along the wooden plank road in the scenic area from the first bridge to the third bridge, and took a bus from the third bridge to the eighth bridge. The eighth bridge is a landscape area of desert and poplars, and the end of it is the Badain Jaran Desert. From 8 am to 6 pm, we wandered in the poplar forest for ten hours. Beautiful scenery can be seen everywhere, which is dazzling! Truly experience what picturesque scenery is!

It is famous for the movie "Hero" directed by Zhang Yimou. From the first bridge to the eighth bridge, it includes the poplar forest, red willow forest and Badain Jaran Desert. It was still a little cool when we arrived at the scenic spot near noon, with a strong wind and dust all over the sky. The water surface of the reflection forest of the second bridge was turbid and the reflection was not clear. After noon, the wind gradually stopped, the blue sky, the golden poplars, and the ancient Aobao were probably the most beautiful posture of autumn. The eighth bridge is on the edge of the Badain Jaran Desert, and there is a huge Genghis Khan sand sculpture at the entrance.

There are only three places in the world where poplar forests grow in large areas: the Tarim River Basin in remote Xinjiang, South Africa even farther away, and Ejina. Ejina is Mongolian and means: secluded and desert.

Someone once said: If you love someone, take him to see the autumn in Ejina, because it is a paradise of beautiful scenery; if you hate someone, take him to see the spring in Ejina, because it is hell. No one could have imagined that this is the birthplace of sandstorms in my country. Sometimes there is only a step between heaven and hell...

There are eight bridges in the Ejina Populus euphratica forest scenic area. The most worth visiting are the second bridge, the fourth bridge and the eighth bridge. The first bridge is called Taolai Forest, the second bridge is the reflection forest, the third bridge is the red willow sea, the fourth bridge is the hero forest, the fifth bridge is the Torghut Manor, the sixth bridge is not open for the time being, the seventh bridge is the dream forest, and the eighth bridge is the sand sea forest, which is connected to the Badain Jaran Desert. A scenic highway surrounded by poplar forests in the area runs through the eight bridges.

The full ticket is 240 yuan, and 190 yuan if you don't go to Badao Bridge. We only bought the 190 yuan ticket because we wanted to go to the desert and ride camels.

Compared with the artificial poplar forest in Jinta yesterday, the poplar forest in Ejina is natural, wild, unrestrained, vigorous and vicissitudes of life.

Erdao Bridge reflects the forest, and the Heihe River runs through the forest. We often say: There are three thousand rivers, but we only drink from one. The Ruoshui River refers to the river in front of us, also known as the Heihe River and the Ejina River. This river is called the Ruoshui River because of its turbulent flow and boats cannot cross it.

You can smell the fragrance of leaves by standing on tiptoe, and you can reach the brightest sunshine on the branches by reaching out...

There is a hotel converted from a train in Badaoqiao, which is specially prepared for tourists to watch the sunrise.

The beauty of the Populus euphratica forest only appears once a year, and only for about 20 days. When you are still hesitating whether to go or not, it has quietly withered. If you miss it, another year will pass.

When the golden color comes into view, one can't help but feel excited. People seem to enter the poplar forest with a pilgrimage-like reverence.

The light is slanting, the light and dark are mottled, the reflections are long, and the plank road is winding. Such a beautiful picture is really easy to make people intoxicated.

Best route: Enter the gate of the scenic area (Yidao Bridge) in the morning, visit Erdao Bridge and Sidao Bridge on foot, take the shuttle bus to Qidao Bridge, visit Qidao Bridge, take the shuttle bus to Badao Bridge, do not visit Badao Bridge (Desert Kingdom), and then take the shuttle bus back to Yidao Bridge. Badao Bridge Desert Kingdom is not worth visiting, and the desert landscape is very ordinary. Please prepare dry food for lunch.

The scenic area is so large that it is difficult to walk around the scenic area. Private cars are not allowed to enter during the National Day holiday, so tourists have to pay to take the scenic area bus.

The main scenic spots in the scenic area include the Yidao Bridge, the Erdao Bridge, the Badao Bridge and the Badao Bridge.

A bridge: There is a bridge at the entrance of the scenic area, with sparse poplar forests. You need to walk across the bridge to take the scenic area bus. There is a camel riding project here, which can take tourists to the bus boarding point.

Erdao Bridge: Also known as the Reflection Forest, there are many ponds and a small river here, reflecting the yellow leaves of the Populus euphratica forest and the blue sky, which is very beautiful and suitable for taking pictures. There is a bus stop at Erdao Bridge, where you can take the bus to Sidao Bridge.

Sandaoqiao: It is mainly a red willow forest. Buses do not stop there, so if you are in a hurry, you don’t have to go there.

Sidaoqiao: Also known as Heroes Forest, Zhang Yimou's movie "Hero" was filmed here. The fight scene between Maggie Cheung and Zhang Ziyi, dressed in red, with golden leaves, is very beautiful. This place is also suitable for taking photos, so you can stay longer. There is a bus stop at Sidaoqiao, and you can take the bus to Qidaoqiao and Badaoqiao.

5. Liudao Bridge: The scenery is average, buses do not stop there, so if you are in a hurry, you can avoid it.

Qidao Bridge: There is a large poplar forest here, and there are not many tourists. I didn't go this time, but it's still worth a visit if you are not in a hurry. The bus will drop off passengers at Qidao Bridge, but it only drops off passengers. If you are done visiting Qidao Bridge, you need to walk to Badao Bridge to take the bus back to the gate.

Badaoqiao: This is the edge of the Badain Jaran Desert. You can no longer see the poplar forests. All you can see are desert landscapes, large and small sand dunes and scattered sand lakes. You can watch the desert sunset in the evening. There are many tourist projects here, such as camel riding, sand sliding, and desert off-roading. The prices are relatively expensive, all above 100 yuan. Badaoqiao is the end of the scenic area. There is a bus stop. The bus back to the gate will close at around 7 o'clock.

The No. 1 to No. 7 Bridges and the No. 8 Bridge are relatively independent scenic spots. The ticket office separately indicates the fee for the No. 8 Bridge Desert Scenic Area. You need to check your ticket once when entering the gate of the scenic area. If you go to No. 8 Bridge, you need to check your ticket separately. The full ticket I bought includes three parts: the No. 1 to No. 7 Bridges Poplar Forest Scenic Area Ticket, the No. 8 Bridge Desert Scenic Area Ticket, and the bus ticket. The total cost is 240 yuan, which can be said to be very expensive.

But this is the main scenic spot of the Populus euphratica forest in Ejina Banner. I came all the way here, and although it’s not cheap, I still have to go in and take a look~~~

I got up early in the morning and went to the Populus euphratica scenic area to watch the sunrise after breakfast in front of the apartment. I couldn't catch the sunrise at Erdao Bridge, which was crowded with people, so I went to the highest point, Nuoerjin Aobao, which was quite good. There are all kinds of guides on the Internet. I think it’s better to follow your feelings in the scenic area. There is no need to follow anyone's footsteps. We didn't come to the Populus euphratica forest specifically for photography, so we chose places with few people and interesting places, took some photos, and walked around. Half a day passed. It is worth seeing Erdao Bridge and Qidao Bridge because there is water in both places. You will find that although Populus euphratica is a desert creature, it is spiritual and very beautiful as long as it is combined with water. Badao Bridge is in the desert, and we are not interested in desert projects, so we left in a hurry. It is beautiful to shuttle among the Populus euphratica on the way from Qidao Bridge to Badao Bridge. If you must talk about your feelings, it is still the same sentence that Populus euphratica is spiritual because of water. Therefore, I think Erdao Bridge and Qidao Bridge can be focused on; if you have spare energy, it is recommended to walk through the park. During travel, watching the sunrise and sunset is always indispensable. Today, I came to see the sunrise in the poplar forest. The sun had not yet risen near a bridge. If a poplar stood there, you would think it was a ginkgo tree. If a group of poplars stood in the water, you would be amazed at how beautiful poplars can be. Our trip was relatively free and casual. When you look around, you can't help but pay attention to the beauty around you.

Early in the morning, I spent 245 yuan on tickets and sightseeing bus tickets to enter the Ejina Poplar Forest, and started from the Yidao Bridge and traveled to the Badao Bridge. The streets were still crowded with tourists as usual, but the Ejina Poplar Forest Scenic Area is large, so the crowds can be dispersed, and it doesn't seem as crowded as the Strange Tree Forest.

You need to be lucky to see the Populus euphratica forest. If you go there early, the leaves will not turn yellow. If you go there late, there will be no leaves. We went there on October 9th, and I think one-third of the leaves turned yellow, which was still early. However, it felt okay.

The Ejina Populus euphratica forest, with its eternal beauty and endless changes, has become a holy place in people's hearts, and countless people have fallen for it.

It is said that it would be more beautiful if I came a week later. Unfortunately, there was no holiday at that time and I could only take advantage of the National Day holiday.

Since we were just passing by and the season was a bit early, there were also advantages; we could drive around the scenic area in our own car without entering the scenic spot or buying tickets. In the peak season, this road is closed and you can only take the scenic area shuttle bus to visit, which is not so free.

The Populus euphratica forest is really beautiful, and the most beautiful places are concentrated in the Erdao Bridge in the scenic area and the Sidao Bridge where the movie "Hero" was filmed. Moreover, the best viewing season of the Populus euphratica forest is only about 20 days a year.

I spent 130 yuan riding a camel for 20 minutes. It's a pity that the guy who led the camel didn't understand Chinese very well, and his photography was too bad. I still took photos with one hand from time to time, but I was worried about safety and didn't take good photos. Because of taking photos of the desert camel team, I may have become the scenery in other people's lenses.

I wanted to see the sunset in the desert, but later I heard that the last bus back to the scenic area was at 7 o'clock, and there were no taxis outside (no taxis allowed in). The sunset was at 7 o'clock... It was too inhumane. The last bus at 7:30 was also fine! The sun was very strong today, and it was also very cloudy, so there must be a very beautiful sunset.

The golden poplar forest will be very beautiful under the sunlight. It is recommended that you do not set out too early. The light is not strong enough before 10 o'clock, and the photos taken will not be ideal. Therefore, there is no need to arrive at the scenic spot too early.
