I thought Heishantou was a mountain, but when I got here I realized that Heishantou was a small town, an ancient city. The advantage is that the stay experience is really great! The facilities here are complete, the room is large, and the price is naturally the most expensive in the past few days. I was lucky enough to see meteors and aurora at night.

Heishantou is a place that all people who visit Hulunbuir will go to. It is also a town under the jurisdiction of Ergun City. The name comes from a mountain in the northeast of the town. Whenever a thunderstorm comes, the mountain is covered with dark clouds and appears black. It is called "Hala Ule" in Mongolian and translated into "Heishantou" in Chinese.

The first few times I came to Heishantou, I didn't have a deep impression of it. I just remember that it was a place for horse riding on the grassland and a must-stop rest point on the Ka Line Highway. This time I came to Heishantou, I took a photo of an equestrian show and saw a nice sunset, which greatly improved my impression of it. Especially the part about driving through the grassland mentioned above, which satisfied all my fantasies about the grassland.

There are many kinds of equestrian performances in Hulunbuir. The most common kind of performance is in the Barhu grassland tribe, which is a fixed-point performance with many tourists. Thanks to the large number of horse farms in Heishantou, local herdsmen have started a business of riding horses and photographing horses. The performances of lassoing, standing horse, bending waist, etc. are all very conscientious. Unfortunately, the weather was not very good when we took the photos, but fortunately, the sunlight penetrated the clouds at sunset.

We arrived at Heishantou Town under the jurisdiction of Ergun City at around 18:00 in the evening and checked into Shenfei Manor. The overall feeling of Shenfei Manor was pretty good. There were both buildings and yurts for accommodation. There was a large grassland behind the manor with grazing horses, cattle and sheep. You could take a walk and take pictures. After dark, there was a free bonfire party in the small square of the hotel, which you could participate in and experience.

There happened to be a horse riding route at the horse farm, which takes about two hours to ride from the horse farm to Sunset Hill, watch the sunset and then return. The total price is 450 yuan. Shunji and I finally chose this route.



Because the sunset is around 6:15, we set out from the racecourse at 5:00, with about eight people in our group.

The horse trainer will teach everyone some common commands and movements before tourists get on the horses, such as how to use the reins and movements to make the horses move forward, stop, and turn left or right. Most of the horses are very docile, and the entire team walks in a straight line.

The horse I rode was a brown horse, not very tall, and very docile and obedient. The horses in a horse farm must march in a straight line, with one trainer leading and another trainer following. Generally speaking, several horses cannot walk side by side, otherwise they are likely to have conflicts and fights.

Although the owner of the horse farm said that we were not encouraged to bring cameras at the beginning, after all, the beautiful scenery of Sunset Mountain, how could I be willing to take pictures without a camera? If you bring a camera, I strongly recommend that you bring a telephoto lens. For example, I used a 70-180 lens at the time, which I think is very suitable for taking pictures of Sunset Mountain. I also brought a 24-70 lens at the time, but I didn't use it at all in the end. When you are riding a horse, you should still pay attention to reducing the weight as much as possible, and try not to carry a backpack. If you have to carry a backpack, don't put too many valuables in the bag, because once the horse trots, it will be very bumpy. Sometimes I am really afraid that the lens will be damaged in the bag.

The horse I rode was very obedient. It was shorter and had smaller steps, but when it saw that the horse ahead of it had gotten farther away, it would automatically trot a few times to catch up with the horse ahead without my urging. I felt that it was a fully automatic pony. I felt that I had developed an affection for it after riding it all the way. I had already fallen in love with it.



When we finally arrived at Sunset Mountain, I was a little shocked by the beauty in front of me. It was a small hill, and below the hill was a wetland with colorful shrubs growing all over the wetland. In the distance was a winding river, and the setting sun just fell at the end of the river, dyeing the river water orange-red.

At that moment, I felt that the scenery here was so beautiful, and I also felt a little regretful, because when we arrived at the top of Sunset Mountain, it was almost sunset, but I think such beautiful scenery is actually suitable for appreciation from morning to night. For example, I think we should come here at three or four o'clock in the afternoon to quietly appreciate the beautiful scenery here until sunset, instead of arriving here at sunset. I feel that the time for enjoying the sunset on horseback is still too short.

Today's timing was very good. Due to the flooded road, we were forced to change our route to Heishantou to watch the sunset, but when we arrived at the small viewing platform at Heishantou, the time was just right.

Heishantou is also a border town, close to Ergun City and Manzhouli. It has mature tourism development and is a good place to ride horses, eat meat and watch the sunset. Today we drove in the opposite direction towards Wuka. The route was not long and we encountered some very nice scenery on the way. We went to a place with amusement facilities on the side of the road where we could drive grass cars, slide on the grass, and ride horses. We were not interested in these man-made facilities, but the lawn mowers and grass carts on the grass were quite suitable for us.

When I first saw the name of this town, I thought of the scene in "A Chinese Odyssey" where the Bull King shook his body and threw away countless cattle lice all over the mountains. In fact, the hills here are not black, but the name does come from the Black Mountain Group 2 kilometers northeast of the town. Black Mountain is almost a must-see point in the Hulunbuir tour route, which is usually arranged one day before or after Manzhouli. The classic activities here are horseback riding and watching the sunset. Living in a yurt, milking sheep, feeding lambs and other ethnic customs are also special.

Before driving to Heishantou Town, there are several private horse riding teams on the roadside. Basically, you follow the horseman to go around in circles, and there is no opportunity to gallop. The way of taking pictures and selling money is similar to that in other parts of the country; the slight difference is that there are special protective gears here, and there will be explanations before getting on the horse, so the safety factor is relatively higher. Tourists who have had experience in horse riding before should weigh whether it is necessary to try it again. Anyway, I didn't get on the horse.

The best viewing spot for watching the sunset at Heishantou is the free area with the most tourists and off-road vehicles on this trip, even more than the Morigele River - because watching the sunset is a fixed time period, so you can see all the tourists who arrived at Heishantou on the same day there. I don’t know if it’s because there are too many people, the popular mountain was temporarily restricted and no cars were allowed to go up. The driver Xiao Zhang took us to another mountain, and the scenery we saw was equally shocking.

Of course, if you think it’s not too cool to watch and take photos of the same wetland sunset with hundreds of people, you can walk a little further to get a wider view and a more special picture. This picture of flying clouds and running horses is also one of the highlights of this trip.

After watching the sunset at Heishantou, we had to stay in the town for a night, so the yurts (Golden Mongolian Tribe 380/night) and Mongolian meals and bonfire parties here were very popular. Compared with the yurts I stayed in before at Xilamuren Grassland, the ones here are more authentic, at least covered with canvas instead of cement bricks and tiles. However, this also brought problems such as ventilation and water permeability, and various grassland insects could also visit freely through the gaps in the canvas. After 11 o'clock that night, there was another power outage, and all charging equipment faced the crisis of shutdown the next day. In short, this yurt night was not a very pleasant experience.

We went back to the yurt hotel lobby for dinner. There were singing and dancing and horse-head fiddle performances to liven up the atmosphere, but the food… I can say they beat the salt seller to death. Even the small green vegetables were so salty that it was outrageous. The two naughty kids were interested in using a knife to cut the meat from the roasted lamb legs. The lamb offal soup was also so salty that it was scary, and it was also spicy o(╥﹏╥)o

Our yurt also has air conditioning: the temperature difference between day and night on the grassland is large, and with air conditioning it won't be cold at night! The dinner in the yurt was very lively, with a roasted whole lamb opening ceremony and singing and dancing performances. When night fell, what awaited us was an unforgettable bonfire party.
