Santan Gorge

Santan Gorge is located 78 kilometers northeast of Arxan City, in the Tianchi Scenic Area, on the upper reaches of the Halaha River, and echoes the Tianchi Mountain. It is named after the three pools of water: Woniu Pool, Hushi Pool, and Yuexin Pool. There are many bends between the three pools. There is a section of the gorge where glaciers exist in June and July, which is called the "Summer Glacier".

After coming out of Shitanglin, it was almost 4:30, so we drove to Santanxia by ourselves, otherwise the last bus to the scenic area was at 5:00, and we could hardly enjoy the scenery. At the end of the scenic area, there is a monument of the source of the Halaha River, but the river is far away. When we came out of the scenic area, the exit and the entrance were not the same, so we had to go back the same way to get back to the parking lot, and the scenic area was closed at 6:30. My wife and I almost fainted on the spot. There was a chartered car driver waiting for people at the exit, so we took his car back to the entrance parking lot to spend some money and save some effort.

【Walking in Santanxia】

Santanxia is a small scenic spot in Arxan National Forest Park. Compared with the scenery of Dujuan Lake and Arxan Tianchi, it is not very stunning. But on a golden autumn morning, walking on the wooden plank road, apart from the footsteps of our group, it seems that only the Halaha River is singing from far and near. Walking along the bank of the Halaha River, watching "time flies by"; when the Halaha River sings in the distance, the sound of golden pine needles falling is so clear.

In Santanxia, you just need to walk slowly, immerse yourself in the embrace of the golden larch trees, and feel the comfortable and cozy autumn morning.

【Origin of the name】Santan Gorge consists of three pools: Woniu Pool (the river is calm, like a huge herd of cattle resting in the river), Hushi Pool (there are huge rocks of various shapes, like a group of tigers playing in the river) and Yuexin Pool (the end of the canyon). The Halaha River shuttles between the rocks, sometimes turbulent like flying pearls and jade, and sometimes calm and unfathomable, which echoes the volcanic relics in the scenic area and is also a magical work of nature.

The water flows fast in some places and slowly in others. You can use a neutral density filter to take long exposure photos of the water, which will be more beautiful.

The main attraction of this scenic spot is the flowing water! Clear and turbulent! Surrounded by rocks and trees, it should be cool and beautiful in summer. In winter, it is full of snow and fairy-tale romance. In this season, the leaves of the trees have fallen off, which makes it look a little less beautiful.

The plank road here is about 2-3 kilometers long. When we get out of here, our legs really feel like they have dropped heavy stones.

Unlike other scenic spots with distinct volcanic geological movement characteristics, this place is more like a journey through the primeval forest. Stroll along the plank road in the forest and quietly enjoy the beautiful scenery of Daxing'anling. From the entrance, the three pools are Woniu Pool, Hushi Pool, and Yuexin Pool in order. The river water changes from calm and quiet to turbulent, and then the river surface widens at the exit and the bottom is clear. The scenery changes in distinct layers and rhythm.

In October, I saw only some withered branches in Santan Gorge, which was quite disappointing. Fortunately, there were very few people in the whole scenic area, and it was refreshing to take a walk.

The scenery here is really good. The clear water is flowing rapidly, and there are steep rocks and old trees next to it. We will walk along the trail through a long section of woods, which is very charming.

The regulations for the exit and entrance of the scenic spot are very unreasonable: the tour bus sends tourists to the entrance, only allows tourists to get off but not get on, and then drives the empty bus to the exit to wait, which is equivalent to forcing tourists to complete the journey. No matter what your situation is, whether you are willing or not.

In a canyon with mountains and water, the leaves are beginning to change color, the only thing lacking is weather.

Even without the heavy colors of late autumn, it is still refreshing.

We mistakenly didn't bring one, so the photos we took by using the railing were a little blurry.

I personally think that this is the third scenic spot worth visiting in Arshan Scenic Area. The canyon, river, and forest are very beautiful! It is suitable for a quiet experience...
