We changed the route from Dujuan Lake and came to the second attraction of the day, Tuofengling Tianchi. The reason why we chose this Tianchi was because a friend who had been there said that this Tianchi was bigger and more beautiful than the Arshan Tianchi. However, the Arshan Tianchi is the third highest Tianchi in China. The first is the Changbai Mountain Tianchi, the second is the Xinjiang Tianchi, and the third is the Arshan Tianchi. I felt a little regretful when I thought about it, but my tired legs also sounded the alarm. To be honest, we came a little late in the season, and many trees on the mountain were already bald. If you want to see more beautiful scenery, you should come in mid-September or early October.

There are two Tianchi in Arshan, one is Arshan Tianchi, which is closer to the tourist center, and the other is Tuofengling Tianchi, which is 40 kilometers away from the tourist center. The vertical height from the foot of the mountain to the top of the mountain is about 400 meters. Generally, few tourists go there. But the scenery is very beautiful. Tuofengling Tianchi is a high-level lake formed by water accumulation in the crater after the volcanic eruption. The water surface here is 1,284 meters above sea level. The lake surface is shaped like a person's left foot, about 450 meters wide from east to west, about 800 meters long from north to south, and covers an area of 26 hectares. This lake is also a Maar Lake, which was formed about 300,000 years ago.

The most beautiful Tianchi in Arxan Forest Park is Tuofengling Tianchi. You have to work hard to see the magnificent scenery between heaven and earth. I was panting with exhaustion, and suddenly my eyes were brightened. The blue water was set against the surrounding mountains, and the golden grassland surrounded the magnificent canyon. It was a huge visual feast!

Tuofengling Tianchi is the farthest one from Tianchi service area in the forest park. The farm girl suggested to start from here and then walk back gradually. Tuofengling Tianchi is similar to Tianchi, so we are recommended to go to Tuofengling Tianchi.

When I came out of the farm house in the morning, the temperature was very low. I had to wear a down jacket and it was not until after 10 o'clock that I felt warm.

The bus takes you to the foot of the mountain, and you need to climb the mountain by yourself. It is all wooden plank roads. The road is easy to walk on, but there are many steps, which is quite physically demanding. During the National Day holiday, the birch has lost its leaves, and the only trees that can be seen are larch.

Tuofengling Tianchi is named after the mountains around it that resemble camel humps. After reaching the top of the mountain, a wooden plank road is built around the lake, so there are many angles to observe Tuofengling Tianchi.

When I drove to the entrance on the road, the staff said that there was no self-driving in Arshan, and that I was not allowed to drive my own car. I had to take the scenic area car to enter. I was asked to take out the ticket and I said that I bought the ticket online and there was a QR code. The reply was that the ticket bought online was not recognized and I had to go to the gate to exchange the ticket. If we went back to the gate to exchange the ticket, it would definitely affect the subsequent itinerary. I asked if there were any other options. The reply said that the online ticket should be refunded and bought from him. We were a little anxious when we heard it. It took a long time to buy the ticket online, and we didn’t know whether it could be refunded. We came all the way here, but the staff here were like training prisoners, and they were not good at all. It was useless to talk nicely. I was really anxious. I said that we came all the way from Beijing and spent so much money. It was not easy to drive here. Is it like this for tourists? I started recording a video, and finally after communication, we finally had a more satisfactory solution. Another responsible staff member took the QR code in our hands and processed the admission to the park on the mobile phone and shared the information. It seems that there is still a solution. I guess I am not the only one who encountered such a problem. It is recommended that there be clear reminders when purchasing tickets online, and that text instructions stating that online tickets must be exchanged for tickets should be clearly displayed in a conspicuous location when entering the park.

"Tuofengling Tianchi" is a scenic spot in Arxan National Forest Park. It is located deep in Arxan and is also a volcanic lava lake. The entire "Tianchi" is shaped like a foot.

There are seven main scenic spots in Arxan Scenic Area, which are divided into three shuttle bus routes:

Route 1: Shitanglin, Dujuan Lake, Grand Canyon, Tuofengling Tianchi

Route 2: Aershan Tianchi (only this one attraction). After visiting this attraction, it is relatively easy to transfer to Route 3.

You need to wait for the bus between attractions on the same route, and you need to transfer between different routes in the service area (it is more convenient to transfer from route 2 to route 3. Although the bus passes the service area, it does not need to stop and wait for a long time). In the off-season, you may have to wait until the end of time for the shuttle bus.



If you are traveling for two days like us, we recommend that you spend one day visiting Shitanglin, Dujuan Lake, Grand Canyon, Tuofengling Tianchi; and the other day visiting Arshan Tianchi, Santanxia and Dichi.

If you only have one day to visit, the highlights I recommend based on my personal preferences are: Tuofengling Tianchi (the most highlights), Shitanglin, and Arshan Tianchi.



When I first looked up guides, some people said that it would be better to go to Tuofengling Tianchi in the afternoon with good light, but no one clearly stated what time the good light would start. However, based on actual observations, I think it would be more appropriate to go there after 2 p.m.

When we started to climb the mountain at 12:30, we still felt the sun coming towards us, it was super hot, but fortunately the weather was very good. It took about 400 steps to climb all the way up, and we took three or four breaks halfway through, which was quite physically demanding. When we climbed to the top, we could see an arrow pointing to the right pointing to the "bird's eye view platform", where we could see the panoramic view of Tuolingfeng Tianchi, which looked like the shape of a foot.

After seeing the whole view, walk in the opposite direction and overlook the scenery of Tianchi Lake along the surrounding route. There are some small viewing platforms scattered along the way, and you can find good angles for taking photos if you look carefully.

When we came here on September 19, the leaves were still half yellow and half green, and had not completely turned into the most beautiful yellow. The main tree species here is larch, which turns yellow later than birch forests. But autumn in Inner Mongolia is actually made up of many tree species, so it is difficult to find the most perfect time to make all the trees at their best.

But in fact, against the backdrop of blue sky and white clouds, the yellow larch trees swaying gently and the sparkling water in the pond (this adjective is really too accurate, it really shimmers and flows like scales) are really the ultimate beautiful scenery. I think this scene will be deeply imprinted in my mind for a long, long time

You should go before the end of autumn.

You must definitely reserve a whole day or two days for Arshan. It is too big, and one attraction takes half a day. We made a mistake this time. Two adults and one child spent more than 700 yuan. After we went in to see Tuofengling Tianchi, it started to rain heavily, and we couldn't see other attractions. So you must reserve enough time for Arshan~ Otherwise, it's really not worth the ticket price~

Tuofengling Tianchi Lake is 1,320 meters above sea level. It takes 436 steps to climb from the bottom of the mountain to the top. Tianchi is surrounded by mountains. No matter it is a long drought or continuous rain, the water level of Tianchi never rises or falls.

Tuofengling should be regarded as the signature attraction of Arxan Forest Park. Its most special feature is that it is the only one among the seven attractions that has a crossroads in the internal tour path. Climb up the steps from the entrance of the scenic spot for ten minutes, and you will see road signs with three directions, left, front and right, on a platform. I was a little confused at the time. Later, I asked the cleaning staff of the scenic spot to figure out that the "bird's-eye view platform" on the right is an observation deck, which only needs to walk another 200 meters to reach it. It is the most convenient way to see the panoramic view of Tianchi Lake; the "sky bathing platform" in front can go down to the lakeside and get close to the water of Tianchi Lake. It takes at least 20 minutes to visually see it; the "exit" on the left can continue to climb up, see the panoramic view of Tianchi Lake from different angles and the distant view of the mountain, and then go down the mountain from the other side of Tuofengling. Because I didn't do my homework in advance, the time was slightly delayed. In order to get down the mountain before the sightseeing bus closed, I could only return from the original road to the entrance after seeing the bird's-eye view platform. I didn't have time to complete the summit of Tianyutai and Tuofengling, and it was impossible to watch the sunset. Therefore, friends who want to have a good time in Tuofengling are reminded to either come early to allow enough time, or drive here (but also be prepared to walk more than one kilometer to pick up the car).

Hump Route

Arshan means Holy Water in Mongolian, and my first reaction when I saw Tuofengling Tianchi was Holy Shit. It was so beautiful that I wanted to curse. In other people's travel notes, I have also seen more gorgeous golden yellow, the kind of golden color that kills all other flowers after my flowers bloom, but in my travel notes, this green and yellow is the best.

Looking at the calm water, I can think of Hokkaido's holy Lake Mashu, with the same lingering forests and deep water, but the Japanese have fenced off Mashu, so you can only see it from a distance. The fog around the lake all day long makes it impossible for you to feel the purest lake water in the world. Although the Tianchi Lake in Tuofengling is small, it seems like your own private hot spring. I sat quietly on the hillside, watching the ripples blown by the breeze, as if my body had also sunk into the water, meeting each other nakedly, and being one with nature.

I walked slowly along the plank road of Tuofengling, and the song "Ripples" rang in my ears. Life was as quiet as the lake, and it was full of life for you. It was full of ripples for you. The laughter was all for you. This was the memory of the 70s, and it brought back the memories of "What Do You Want in Life". The song continued, and life was as light as flowing water, and it was all because of your beauty. I always cherished time and lingered all the way around Tianchi Lake, and I came here with a lot of fatigue. This Tuofeng route that circled the lake half way was simply the air supply for my soul.

Although it’s a bit cold, I must take off my coat and show my slogan, Wulilige, walk alone and have fun.

Generally, not many tourists go there (tour groups usually don’t go there), but the scenery is very beautiful.

The few days I went there should be the best time to enjoy the autumn in Arshan. There are almost no green leaves or even the branches that have lost all their leaves in winter. This place is like a piece of jasper, embedded in the jungle. It is beautiful, pure, and natural. There is a feeling that people can't express. It is as beautiful as a sapphire among the mountains. If you come here, you must stand at the highest point and look down. You will find that this kind of natural beauty is thousands of times more beautiful than artificial beauty. The scenery is the most beautiful. I think this Camel Peak Ridge plank road should be the most tiring road in the forest park, but no matter how tired you are, every time you reach a new height, the scenery you see will not disappoint tourists.

After nearly half an hour, we finally reached the highest observation deck of Tuofengling, where we can see the whole picture of Tianchi Lake in Tuofengling. The golden trees and the clear Tianchi Lake gracefully form an oil painting with an autumn atmosphere, with bright colors and strong contrast. If it were blue sky and white clouds at this time, the scenery would be even better. At that time, Tianchi Lake would be like a sapphire left by God in the world, inlaid in the golden ocean.

Arriving at the viewing platform is actually a crossroads. The lower exit is the road we came up, and the front exit is along the plank road directly down to the bottom of Tianchi Lake, where you can see the water of Tianchi Lake up close. The road is not very far. I walked directly down, but there were not many tourists here. I think most tourists are exhausted when they reach the viewing platform at the highest point of Tuofengling and don’t want to go down again, so they come back up the same way. The water of Tianchi Lake at a close distance is very clear. It seems like a paradise, surrounded by golden forests. From time to time, a few bird calls seem particularly quiet. Looking carefully, there is an abandoned blue boat parked on the shore in the distance of the forest, which forms a sharp contrast with the golden woods.

There is another viewing platform to the right of the viewing platform, but there is no road there. The entrance on the left is the road leading to the exit of Tuofengling. However, you still have to climb a section of plank road steps and walk for a long time to reach the exit of Tuofengling.

It is really beautiful and amazing, and the aerial video is really beautiful. However, for those who have crossed many bridges and walked many roads to visit the Xinjiang Kanas Loop, this attraction is not very good!

Tuofengling Tianchi looks like a big left foot when viewed from a high place. This picture requires imagination.

Because the viewing plank road is built along Tuofengling Tianchi, different viewing platforms have different views. Sunny days are the best filter. The beautiful scenery is in a little-known secret place. You will really forget all your worries and the hustle and bustle of the city.

The autumn in Arxan is indeed worthy of its reputation. The mountains and plains are covered with golden colors, as if they were painted and coated with a layer of sunlight. As the saying goes, if you have not been to Arxan, you have not seen autumn. It is indeed true.

It was quite beautiful, especially when we reached the top of the mountain. Our China Unicom cell phone also had a signal, which made us feel even better.

I personally think this is the most beautiful place in the whole scenic area, and it is also the place with the most people. It may also be the time we arrived. On the first day of the National Day holiday, many people were still on the road, but we had already started to visit the scenic area. On the 2nd, most people arrived, and there were obviously many more people in the scenic area.

It is not as high as the Aershan Tianchi, so it is not as hard to climb, but the scenery is much better than the Aershan Tianchi. The water of the Tianchi is in the shape of a foot, and it becomes more obvious as the steps get higher.

This attraction is the most worthwhile attraction in Arxan Forest Park (only in autumn, I have no say on other seasons). I even feel that after visiting this attraction, other attractions in the park seem so-so. Tuofengling Tianchi is almost the farthest of all the attractions. The drive takes about 40 to 50 minutes. I started from far to near. I repeat, in autumn, Tuofengling Tianchi is the most beautiful place in Arxan, no one else.

What a hearty autumn in the north! How can people who love beauty not be moved by it? Seeing this pool of clear water and the golden scenery, do you have an urge to fly to Daxinganling immediately? When you climb to the top of Tianchi, you don't have the feeling of "looking down on all the mountains". On the contrary, you will feel that your vision is narrower. You can only see the 13.5 hectares of lake surface and the blue sky corresponding to it. Therefore, many people who have seen photos of Tianchi feel deeply disappointed when they climb to the edge of Tianchi after much hardship.

Tuofengling Tianchi is the most worthwhile classic scenic spot in Arxan. One step at a time, one view. If you are as lucky as me, you will also experience: light rain, cloudy, no wind, and clear weather!

The places you haven't been to are always the most beautiful. Don't listen to rumors, but go there yourself. Arxan Tianchi is known as the third largest Tianchi in China. It is not high in altitude. You can take the scenic shuttle bus at the Tianchi service area for 2 minutes to get up and down, and then start climbing 998 steps... Many people are disappointed when they arrive at Tianchi, thinking that there is just a lake on the top of the mountain, and the view is not good, and the water is not beautiful. However, Arxan Tianchi is unique. It does not freeze in winter, and it will not overflow even if it rains heavily. It will not dry up even if it does not rain for a long time, and the water level will not drop. It is still worth it.

It was nearly 4:30 in the afternoon when we arrived at Tuofengling. The staff at the scenic area kindly reminded us that there were no shuttle buses returning down the mountain.

Tuofeng Ridge is not very high. Within twenty minutes, everyone reached the top of the mountain and had a panoramic view of the beautiful Tianchi Lake.

TIPS: Although you can have a panoramic view of Tianchi Lake from the commanding heights, it is not the best location to take pictures of the sunset. There are more suitable viewing platforms towards the exit. We felt a little regretful after discovering the truth, and we were planning to see the sunset again the next day, but unfortunately it did not happen in the end.

Tuofengling Tianchi is much better than the Tianchi ground pool I saw yesterday, mainly because it is higher and looks better. But it is definitely not as good as the Tianchi in Changbai Mountain!

The wooden plank road is generally easier to walk up and down than the other Tianchi. It may be because it is a little earlier and there are not as many people as the other Tianchi. If you go there in summer, the whole place is green. I believe it will be a different scene in autumn.

It is a relatively high scenic spot. It is quite tiring to walk around it, but the scenery is great.

Tuofengling Tianchi is worth a visit. The water is turquoise and the lake is calm. The wind gets cooler and more comfortable as you go up.
