The traditional Suzhou garden style is staggered, with dark grey roofs and white walls, making the entire museum look like a small garden.
It consists of two parts: the New Hall and Prince Zhong’s Mansion (Old Hall). In the New Hall, you can see pottery from ancient times to modern times, and in Prince Zhong’s Mansion, you can see Su-style paintings.
There are four permanent exhibitions with Suzhou characteristics in the museum: Wudi Relics, Wu Tower National Treasures, Wuzhong Elegance, and Wumen Paintings and Calligraphy.
In addition, there are folklore exhibitions for tourists to learn about the customs and habits of Suzhou, and they can also visit ancient buildings from the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom period to experience the scenes at that time.

My favorite part of the museum is the open-air part. It has an Instagram-like feel and is very design-oriented, perfect for taking photos.
The dark gray roof contrasts with the white walls, making the entire museum look like a small garden.
A perfect fusion of Jiangnan style and modern artistry. Great!
There are many places to visit, and it takes 1-2 hours to visit carefully.
The Suzhou Museum really amazed me. The white walls, gray tiles, and flying eaves remind the viewer that this is Jiangnan. We made an appointment for the next morning. But there didn't seem to be many people that afternoon, so we went in directly. The first thing that caught my eye was the Suzhou Museum. Some people say that it looks like a penguin, but no one knows what it looks like. We queued for security check and went in directly. When I entered the museum, I felt that it was bright everywhere. This brightness is not reflected by the lights. It is reflected by the design of the Suzhou Museum itself. Looking up at the top of the museum is a different scenery. The reflection of various lights makes me feel that the light in the museum is changing. There is no such lighting, which makes me feel a little uncomfortable.
The well-arranged design and the diamond-shaped windows make it look particularly cute.
Suzhou Museum is a modern museum. There are volunteer explanations at regular intervals. If you don't want to wait, you can scan the QR code to follow the official account and read the introductions of different venues as they change.
Each pavilion is cleverly designed. Looking out the window is like looking at a painting. The pomegranates outside are growing well, and it feels like walking in a garden. I couldn't help but want to take a photo with this beautiful scenery.
There are bamboos in the garden, as well as thin, transparent, porous and wrinkled Taihu stones. When I first saw the Taihu stones, I felt they were indeed very special.
The rich natural colors give the picture a sense of reality and movement. The lines in the painting are vivid, smooth and varied, and the whole painting can be said to be very unique.
There is a Guanyin statue among them, but the first thing that caught people's attention was the two mustaches. The two-eared bottle reminded me of the shape of pitching pots on TV. I don't know if this is it. There are too many collections, and some of them can only be seen in person.
I went from one museum to another with my friends. Some exhibits were lifelike, and some were rich in history. It felt like a good learning experience.
Some pen holders are exquisitely shaped, and some decorations are also quite aesthetic. Even the ornaments are full of the spirit of craftsmanship. The small ivory carvings are lifelike, and the furnishings in the study and the exquisite fan paintings all reveal the pursuit of elegance by the people of Wu.
There are also some designs showing the customs of Wu. They are also quite exquisite. I feel that visiting Suzhou Museum is also a process of in-depth understanding of the customs of a city. Suzhou gives me the feeling of elegance. I don't know if I, a layman, can appreciate it. There are also some exhibits displayed by modern people in the museum. I was also shocked by the hair embroidery.
We also visited some modern exhibits.
We stayed in the Suzhou Museum for quite a while, but time passed quickly. We didn't notice it until it was almost closing time. There were few people around. The Suzhou Museum seemed particularly quiet.
In terms of the building structure, glass and steel structures allow modern people to borrow large areas of natural light indoors. The open steel structure replaces the wooden structure of traditional buildings. The design of the roof shape breaks through the constraints of the "big roof" of traditional Chinese architecture in terms of lighting. The sloping roof is composed of geometric shapes. First of all, the three-dimensional geometric glass skylight on the roof is uniquely designed. Drawing on the practice of tiger skylights in traditional Chinese architecture and improving it, the skylight is opened in the middle of the roof, so that the three-dimensional geometric skylight on the roof and the sloping roof below it form an angle, presenting a three-dimensional modeling effect, which not only solves the practical problem of traditional architecture in terms of lighting, but also enriches and develops the roof modeling style of Chinese architecture.
The treasure of the museum [Five Dynasties] Secret Color Porcelain Lotus Bowl: The bowl is 8.9 cm high, the diameter is 13.9 cm, the saucer is 6.6 cm high, the bottom diameter is 9.3 cm, and the total height is 13.5 cm. It was discovered on the third floor of the Yunyan Temple Pagoda in Tiger Hill, Suzhou in 1956. This Yue Kiln Secret Color Celadon Lotus Bowl consists of two parts: the bowl and the saucer. The bowl has a straight mouth, a deep belly and a ring foot. The saucer is shaped like a bean, with an outward-turned mouth, a waist, and an outward-turned ring foot. The outer wall of the bowl, the saucer surface and the ring foot are all decorated with double-petal lotus flowers, like bas-relief-like protrusions. It is considered to be a standard piece of Secret Color Porcelain from the Five Dynasties and the Northern Song Dynasty.
There was a long line in front of the door before it opened at 8 o'clock. There were also old ladies selling flower bracelets everywhere. Because it was a rare opportunity, we bought one each, which was not very sturdy. After entering, various old items were well stored. The scenery and buildings were very suitable for taking pictures. You can take very artistic and high-end photos with just a snap.
Hello, Guangguang, I’m here to see you, eh!
I came in the last hour before the deadline. I didn’t have an appointment and didn’t have to queue. I was happy. There weren’t many people at this time during the weekend.
I came here for the light. The master's optical space design is already on the corridors and sand walls of the garden outside. It's like accidentally running into an art gallery and then seeing an architecture exhibition. It's eye-opening.
Those special and unique designs that are created slowly and with great effort always impress you in a corner where you thought no one would notice them.
We waited in line for about 40 minutes to enter by swiping our ID cards. The architectural design of the Suzhou Museum will definitely leave a deep impression on you. The Suzhou Museum was designed by the architect I.M. Pei, who placed the Suzhou Museum between the courtyards. The museum itself is not large, but it is compactly designed. It has the design style of traditional Chinese architectural courtyards, and uses light colors and simple lines to outline the simplicity that dilutes the graceful style of Suzhou. I would like to remind you that there are not free explanations every day in the Suzhou Museum, but you should pay attention to the official WeChat public account of the Suzhou Museum, where there are free explanations by gold medalists. The explanations are very professional, and they are definitely much better than the paid explanations of many museums. In short, the exhibits, architecture, and services of the Suzhou Museum are really great. If I write down too many words of praise, I will definitely fill the whole article. I, who never shopped, bought a cup from the Suzhou Museum when I walked out of the Suzhou Museum. This cup made me feel that this is my impression of the Suzhou Museum, simple, elegant, and exquisite. The exit of the Suzhou Museum is the former site of the Zhongwang Mansion, and there is nothing there. We still bought postcards, stamped the Suzhou Museum commemorative stamp, and mailed them back to Shenyang.
The Suzhou Museum left a deep impression on us, a museum fanatic. The exhibits in the Suzhou Museum can be described as "exquisite". There are not many large exhibits in the Suzhou Museum. The small sculptures that are so ingenious and exquisitely crafted have brought us too much shock. If you still remember Su Dongpo's "The Story of the Walnut Boat" in your elementary school textbook, you will definitely find this feeling in the Suzhou Museum.
The Suzhou Museum displays these small carvings that are so ingeniously crafted.
If there are a lot of people, it is recommended that you make an appointment on the website first, otherwise you can only wait in a long line outside for the visit. The website can make an appointment one week in advance. It is recommended that you plan your time in advance, don’t be like us, we expected to be late early in the morning but still overestimated our ability.
Users who have made reservations just need to show their ID cards to get their tickets, but luckily it was not the peak season when we went there, otherwise we would have missed it.
After passing the security check, you will see the real Suzhou Museum. Those photos that I saw on the Internet finally appeared in my naked eyes, and they are really beautiful.
The main entrance of the new museum is a double-eaved glass and double-slope metal beam structure. It not only contains the modeling elements of the main entrance in traditional architectural culture, but also gives it a new style with modern materials. I.M. Pei believes that "the treatment of the main entrance is very important. The main entrance should be grand, but also have the feeling of inviting people in.
Walking through this corridor where sunlight shines in, you will arrive at the first exhibition area.
The stupa in the center is a replica.
There is a glass wall of bamboo forest at the back center of the exhibition hall, which provides a wide view. When you see the forest, your mood inexplicably relaxes.
Most of the exhibits in the first museum are from the Tang and Song dynasties. The introduction says that the exhibits in the Suzhou Museum are comparable to those in the Shaanxi History Museum.
Fortunately, I caught up with the volunteer's explanation and listened attentively for a while. It really benefited a lot. It is really not easy to tell history so vividly and interestingly.
There are many hexagonal windows in Subori, and each window is a painting, a different landscape.
Following in everyone's footsteps, I finally saw the second treasure of the museum, the Five Dynasties secret color porcelain lotus bowl.
It is indeed the treasure of the museum, attracting so many people to come and see it. Unfortunately, it happened to encounter an activity of local primary school students, and the whole museum was a bit noisy, which slightly reduced the viewing experience.
Maybe it’s because I like to go to home furnishing stores on weekdays, so I have an immense love for these plates and bowls.
Especially this hollow bowl, I want to take it home even through the glass.
This young lady, who also loves Suzhou embroidery, is very afraid that she will travel through time.
I bought two pairs of refrigerator magnets from the Suzhou Museum, and that basically concluded my visit to the west exhibition hall. When I came out, I was greeted by a landscape painting that made me feel inexplicably calm.
In this landscape painting, all you can hear is the sound of gurgling water, which is particularly relaxing.
Although the Suzhou Museum is not as large as the Shaanxi Museum of History, it is also a museum worth visiting.
When spring comes and flowers bloom, you can enjoy a pot of spring tea under the wisteria flowers in the east pavilion.
I stored my luggage at the service center opposite. I forgot whether I didn't have to pay if I came out within two or three hours.
This is the first time I have seen such a plain and undecorated building. I have always heard that this is the work of Mr. Ieoh Ming Pei. The modern style of Suzhou Museum and the surrounding green tiles and pinks complement each other so well. Even the roof is so beautiful, I am so sad. There are also some exhibits. The underground floor is a video hall that plays the architectural history of this building. The rest are some public spaces and toilets.
The biggest promotional point of Suzhou Museum is that it is I.M. Pei's final work. The entire museum consists of two halls, the old and new. The old hall was the former residence of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom's Prince Zhong, and the new hall was only opened in 2006 and is Pei's work.
We went there at 12:31. Although it was a Monday, it was still open during holidays. There was a long queue at the entrance, but it was very fast. It took about 20 minutes. At 14:30, a volunteer came to understand. We waited for a while, handed in our ID cards, and each person was given a headset and walked around the permanent exhibition hall. To be honest, the volunteer's explanation was not very good, a bit casual, and not a little bit worse than the volunteers in the Forbidden City...
Compared with the Forbidden City, Nanjing Museum, Shaanxi Museum, and Shanghai Museum, the collections in Suzhou Museum are much worse. The treasures in the museum are replicas, and I am afraid they will be damaged.
Suzhou Museum was established in 1960. Its site, the Prince Zhong’s Mansion of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, is one of the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units and is a group of well-preserved historical buildings of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom in China.
In 1999, the Suzhou Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government invited the world-renowned Chinese architect I.M. Pei to design the new Suzhou Museum. It was officially opened to the public in 2006. Together with the renovated Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Zhongwang Mansion, the total construction area reached 26,500 square meters, with an investment of 339 million yuan. It is a comprehensive new museum that integrates modern museum buildings, ancient buildings and innovative landscape gardens. Its characteristics are reflected in: the natural integration of architectural shapes and the surrounding environment, unique space treatment, exquisite building materials and internal design, and the maximum introduction of natural light into the room. "Let light do the design" is Pei's famous saying. In his works, the combination of light and space makes the space changeable. The entrance of the Louvre Pyramid in Paris introduces a lot of light into the lifeless museum, allowing the past history to bask in the sun today.
In terms of the building's structure, glass and steel structures allow modern people to use large amounts of natural light indoors. Open steel structures replace the wooden structures of traditional buildings. The design of the roof shape breaks through the constraints of the "big roof" of traditional Chinese architecture in terms of lighting. The sloping roof composed of geometric shapes draws on and improves on the tiger skylights in traditional Chinese architecture. Such a roof forms an angle with the sloping roof below it, presenting a three-dimensional modeling effect. It not only solves the practical problem of lighting in traditional buildings, but also enriches and develops the roof modeling style of Chinese architecture.
The use of stone materials around the roof and the white walls below unifies the overall style of the building. The roof uses dark gray granite to replace the traditional gray tiles. This kind of granite, known as "Chinese black", is black with gray. It is black when it rains, and becomes dark gray when the sun shines. The stone pieces are processed into diamond shapes and laid flat on the roof one by one, giving it a strong three-dimensional effect.
Here I would like to remind all the friends who are visiting Suzhou Museum that in order to avoid queuing to enter during the peak tourist season, it is best to make a reservation for the visit on the [Suzhou Museum WeChat Official Account] 1-2 days in advance. Here, the reservation tourists will be arranged to enter according to the time period. If the admission quota is not full, the unreserved tourists will be arranged. So in order to avoid queuing for a long time, it is better to move your fingers and make a reservation in advance~
The location of Suzhou Museum can be said to have absorbed all the spirit of Suzhou. It is adjacent to the Humble Administrator's Garden in the east, the Lion Grove in the south, and the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Zhongwang Mansion, which was the original museum, next to the new museum. It is estimated that there is no other such location in Suzhou. This is also the most visited museum I have ever visited besides the Forbidden City.
The overall appearance and garden landscape design continue the construction methods of Jiangnan gardens and are well integrated into the surrounding environment.
The interior design uses a new glass and steel structure, and the skylight is opened in the middle of the roof, solving the major problem of lighting in traditional buildings.
The museum has a courtyard-style landscape like a Jiangnan garden.
The objects in the museum are worth viewing slowly. It is recommended to rent an interpreter at the entrance so that you can slowly listen to the explanation and understand their past and present.
The water bridge in the center of the museum is where the most tourists gather, and everyone is looking for the best angle to capture the entire building in their camera.
The new building is very beautiful. I can’t really describe its beauty. I just feel that it combines the temperament of traditional gardens with the style of modern minimalist architecture.
With the lake in front, the reflection on the water and the real building form a harmonious mirror landscape.
The Suzhou Museum reflected in the water surface~ If there is a gust of wind, it will be as moving as the graceful singing of a girl~
The new museum is the last work of I.M. Pei. It is a masterpiece of a master. It is a combination of modern and traditional styles, which fits the overall environment. However, the architectural colors are more in line with the southern Anhui style. Behind the new museum is the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Zhongwang Mansion and Li Xiucheng's residence. The momentum is still great. Compared with the northern residences, it is more graceful and lacks grandeur. Each has its own merits. At the same time, the museum is free, and next door is the Humble Administrator's Garden.
The best thing about the Suzhou Museum is that it combines the use of lines with traditional garden landscaping techniques. It is beautiful in any photo. Unfortunately, the sky was not blue when I went there. The main hall facing the main entrance looks a bit like a silly robot.
The landscaping technique is a bit like a Japanese garden. The light on the roof is stunning. Looking at the roof is like falling into a well of time. The screen inside the exhibition hall looks at the scenery outside, which has the hazy artistic conception of Chinese paintings.
Suzhou Museum is not big, with two floors above ground and one underground. There is a hall in the middle connecting the two exhibition halls. The open stairwell leads from the underground to the roof. There is a water device on the top. Under the skylight on the roof, there is a waterfall flowing continuously. Listening to the sound of water and looking up at the roof, it feels like the building itself is an exhibit.
It is said that the exhibits in the Suzhou Museum are far from first-class, but it is still easy and interesting to visit. There are many private collections of wealthy families in Jiangnan, which are quite leisurely and elegant. I prefer the jade exhibition hall. The texture of jade becomes more charming as it ages.
The Suzhou Museum also has an exhibition hall dedicated to folk customs. Although it is not exquisite, it has a unique sand sculpture temperament. You can experience it for yourself.
The cultural and creative products at the Suzhou Museum are also quite interesting, but taking photos is not allowed, and we were repeatedly scolded when we tried to take photos.

On October 6, 2006, the new Suzhou Museum was completed and officially opened to the public. The new museum covers an area of about 10,700 square meters, with a construction area of more than 19,000 square meters. Together with the renovated Zhongwang Mansion of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, the total construction area is 26,500 square meters, with an investment of 339 million yuan. Suzhou Museum is a national key cultural relic protection unit, and it is also a comprehensive museum that integrates modern museum buildings, ancient buildings and innovative landscape gardens.
The design of the new museum combines the traditional Suzhou architectural style, with staggered heights, dark gray roofs and white walls. The museum is placed between courtyards, making the building harmonious with its surroundings. The museum consists of two parts: the new museum and the Prince Zhong's Mansion (the old museum). The entire museum is like a small garden. In the new museum, you can see pottery, jade, calligraphy and painting from ancient times to modern times; in the old museum, you can see beautiful and elegant Suzhou-style paintings. The exhibition area of the new museum has four permanent exhibitions with Suzhou local characteristics, including "Wu Di Yu Zhen", "Wu Pagoda National Treasure", "Wu Zhong Elegance" and "Wu Men Calligraphy and Painting". You can experience the delicate elegance of Suzhou from these exhibits.
In August 2017, I went on a nine-day tour of five cities in East China with my gay friend. The fourth stop was the legendary Suzhou. After two days of playing in Suzhou, I went to the museum early the next morning. Before I went, I heard that I had to queue up and the number of people was limited. I didn't expect that after I went there, I found that it was not open until 9 o'clock. Then I waited in line for a long time before I could see the legendary Suzhou Museum. Suzhou Museum was established in 1960. The site of the museum, the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Zhongwang Mansion, is one of the first national key cultural relics protection units. The Suzhou Museum has become a cultural landmark of Suzhou and a popular tourist attraction for tourists from all over the world.
There is a long line of visitors outside the wall of the museum. The museum has set up a warm corridor to prevent sunburn and queue jumping. To avoid queuing too long, you can try to arrive early, but the queue is also very fast. The tickets for Suzhou Museum are free. (Note) You need to swipe your ID card to enter. There is a service center opposite the museum where you can put the items you can't bring in, which is still very convenient! The first impression is simple and refreshing, and you won't think it is a museum that inherits history! Together with the adjacent Zhongwang Mansion, Humble Administrator's Garden, Lion Grove and other scenic spots, it constitutes a colorful cultural corridor in Suzhou. There are many flower windows in the museum. There is a small space at the entrance to introduce the history of Suzhou Museum and Master Bei's design concept. At the same time, you can also check other history of Suzhou. There are a lot of people in the museum. In addition to free explanations, you can also rent an interpreter. Of course, you can log in to the APP on your mobile phone to listen to the explanation. There is an introduction board at the entrance of each exhibition hall, which is easily overlooked. I suggest that you look at this introduction board every time to know the meaning of the exhibition hall. Every detail in the museum shows Master Bei's skills. The details of the stairs may only be presented in Suzhou Museum! Going up to the next floor, you can discover the beauty of the spatial structure of the Suzhou Museum and the calligraphy exhibition on the top floor.
If you feel that simply appreciating the collections of the Suzhou Museum is not enough, then the area where the Suzhou Museum's cultural and creative products are sold is a must-visit place. There is also a wisteria garden where you can sit down, rest your feet and drink water. The environment here is very comfortable. When you are tired of visiting the museum, it is also a good experience to have a cup of hot tea or coffee here!

Suzhou Museum is located next to the Humble Administrator's Garden. The site of the museum was the Prince Zhong's Mansion of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom. On October 6, 2006, the main building of Suzhou Museum designed by I.M. Pei was completed and officially opened to the public.
Suzhou Museum has four basic exhibitions, namely, Treasures of Wu, National Treasures of Wu Tower, Elegance of Wu, and Paintings and Calligraphy of Wu. The total number of collections is 24,819 pieces/sets, including 9,734 pieces/sets of precious cultural relics, including 222 pieces/sets of first-class items, 829 pieces/sets of second-class items, and 8,683 pieces/sets of third-class items. It is known for its archaeological unearthed cultural relics, Ming and Qing paintings and calligraphy, and handicrafts.
The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Zhongwang Mansion of Suzhou Museum is one of the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units. In May 2008, Suzhou Museum became one of the first batch of national first-class museums.
A museum is a microcosm of a city’s history and culture. Its silent collections record the mysteries of history and the changes of the times.
In Suzhou Museum, in addition to appreciating precious cultural relics, you can also appreciate the wonderful architecture.
This wonderful building was designed by the architectural master Mr. I.M. Pei and is also Mr. Pei’s last work.
Ieoh Ming Pei, whose ancestral home is Suzhou, is a Chinese American and a master of modernist architecture. The glass pyramid of the Louvre in France, the iconic building of Hong Kong, the East Wing design of the Museum of Fine Arts in Washington, D.C., and other well-known buildings are all his works.
The overall tone of the Suzhou Museum is based on traditional pink and black elements, and is expressed in a brand-new way.
Mr. Bei believes that the use of black-gray granite is easy to maintain and is in perfect harmony with Suzhou's architectural style.
Therefore, in buildings of different heights, dark gray stone with uniform color is used for roofs and wall decorations, which best matches the white walls.
The charm of mountains and rivers integrates nature into architecture. This is my biggest impression of the Suzhou Museum.
The main courtyard is a creative landscape garden carefully built based on classical garden elements. It consists of a pond covered with pebbles, stone rockery, straight and curved bridges, an octagonal pavilion, a bamboo forest, etc. It creatively integrates museums, ancient buildings and gardens.
It is different from the traditional Suzhou gardens, but it does not deviate from the Chinese cultural atmosphere and charm.
PS: Most of Suzhou’s main attractions are concentrated in the Old Town. Places like the Humble Administrator’s Garden, the Lion Grove, and the Suzhou Museum are not far from each other and can basically be reached on foot.
To visit the Suzhou Museum, you must make an appointment in advance on the official website, otherwise the queues on site will be so long that you will collapse!
Like all museums, the Subo is closed on Mondays.
There are four basic exhibitions in the museum, namely, Treasures of Wu, National Treasures of Wu Tower, Elegance of Wu, and Painting and Calligraphy of Wu School.
There are not many collections overall, but most of them are very exquisite.
Suzhou Museum is a local historical and artistic museum. The site of the museum is the palace site of Li Xiucheng, the loyal king of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom. It is a national key cultural relic protection unit. The new museum was completed in October 2006, designed by the famous architect I.M. Pei.
The new Suzhou Museum is the last architectural work of the Chinese-American master architect I.M. Pei. The new building is staggered in height, and uses dark gray stone with a more uniform color for the roof and wall trim, which matches the white walls and is fresh and elegant. The glass and open steel structure allow modern people to borrow large areas of natural light indoors.
Suzhou Museum was established in 1960. It is located in the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Zhongwang Mansion, which is the most complete historical building of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom preserved in China.
In 1999, Suzhou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government invited the world-renowned Chinese architect I.M. Pei to design the new Suzhou Museum. On October 6, 2006, the new Suzhou Museum was completed and officially opened to the public. It is a comprehensive museum integrating modern museum buildings, ancient buildings and innovative landscape gardens.

tips:
A full reservation system is implemented, and online reservations are required. When the museum encounters major events or important equipment and facilities are repaired and maintained, it can be temporarily closed as needed. The specific information is subject to the announcement of the scenic spot.
The architectural style of Suzhou Museum is naturally integrated with the surrounding environment, with unique space treatment, exquisite building materials and internal design, and the maximum amount of natural light is introduced into the interior. In terms of the structure of the building, the glass and steel structure allow modern people to borrow large areas of natural light indoors. The three-dimensional geometric glass skylight on the roof is uniquely designed. When I arrived at the Humble Administrator's Garden, the endless queues made me realize that making an appointment here was meaningless.
After a rough calculation, I might have to wait in line for another 1 or 2 hours. It's a hot summer day with the sun scorching. I'll just take a photo to show my visit and leave!
Suzhou Museum is a must-visit when traveling to Suzhou, not because of its collections (I am so superficial), but simply because of its architecture. The new Suzhou Museum was completed in October 2006 and was designed by the architectural master I.M. Pei.
The entire Suzhou Museum has a construction area of 26,500 square meters, of which the new museum covers an area of about 10,666 square meters and a construction area of more than 19,000 square meters. It includes the National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit - Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Zhongwang Mansion, which covers an area of about 10,650 square meters and a construction area of more than 7,500 square meters.
Suzhou Museum has 18,234 pieces/sets of collections. You can listen to explanations of relevant collections through the WeChat public account.
The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Zhongwang Mansion is the most complete group of Taiping Heavenly Kingdom buildings in the country that integrates offices, residences and gardens.
But what I like more is architecture.
The whole museum has perfect lighting. Every blade of grass, tree and stone here was personally selected by Pei. You will find that many corners are works of art, with perfect light and shadow, and extreme beauty. It can be seen that Pei really loves his works, and each one is the result of his hard work and is a masterpiece.
Finally, the tourist took a photo because I wanted to take a photo with I.M. Pei.

#Suzhou Museum
Suzhou Museum consists of two parts: the museum and Prince Zhong's Mansion. Looking at cities across the country, it is rare to see a museum become a landmark building and a popular online attraction, and Suzhou Museum is one of them.
The reason why this place has become a popular place for tourists to check in is that the quality of the cultural relics in the museum is secondary. After all, every museum has a few treasures that are kept in the bottom of the box. In this regard, Suzhou Museum, a city-level museum, is not outstanding. The reason is very simple, that is, the late Chinese architectural master I.M. Pei used his genius and ingenuity to design a museum for his hometown that combines the traditional Jiangnan charm with the modern industrial beauty, giving Suzhou Museum an excellent appearance that surpasses other museums, so that people who come here just to appreciate its beauty of shape and design will definitely not regret it.
Compared with the National Museum or provincial museums, the Suzhou Museum is not very big, but it excels in elegance. Both its collections and exhibition layout exude a strong Suzhou style and elegance, making people indulge in it and linger.
Due to time constraints, we did not visit all the halls and only appreciated several important national treasures, including the exquisite "Northern Song Dynasty Pearl Relics Tower", the lifelike "Inner Case of Four Heavenly Kings Painted in Ginkgo Wood", the mysterious and beautiful "Five Dynasties Secret Color Porcelain Lotus Bowl", which is the first treasure of Suzhou Museum, etc.
Walking out of the museum, you will see this iconic courtyard. Standing in it, you will feel like you have become a person in an ink painting. I can't help but sigh that only I.M. Pei, who grew up here as a child, could design such a beautiful and elegant museum, and only such an extraordinary museum is worthy of being in the paradise on earth, Suzhou City.
No matter from which angle, there is a new scene at every step: small bridges, flowing water, black tiles and white walls. There are water, stones and trees in front of you, and blue sky and flowing clouds above your head. It is like an "ink painting", which is also our traditional gardening technique.
Pei's masterpiece left to his hometown, a collision of classic and modern, using straight lines to outline the beauty of Jiangnan architecture, a must-visit check-in spot. There is no ticket, but you need to make an appointment on the official website. It is recommended to make an appointment 2 days in advance
The design of the new Suzhou Museum was created by Mr. I.M. Pei. After visiting it, I feel that this exquisite and elegant museum is truly a masterpiece of a master. The design of the museum and the courtyard is full of imagination of time and space, and a fusion of modern and classical. You can also appreciate the beauty of the garden while visiting it.
Suzhou Museum is free to enter, but you need to make an appointment. I arrived at the site at around 9 o'clock that day and used my mobile phone to make an appointment. The ticket for entry at 10 o'clock was relatively ideal. It is recommended to rent an audio guide at the entrance of the museum, which can help you learn a lot about the collections in the museum.
The works of Master Bei Luming, the museum itself has high viewing value, and the collection is also good, not disappointing. Wudi Calligraphy and Painting Museum gave me a deep understanding of the Jiangnan style of poetry and painting for the first time.
There is a century-old wisteria tree in the rest area, and under the tree is a cafe. It would be a pity to sit there and have a drink.
Suzhou Museum is located not far to the west of Humble Administrator's Garden. The architecture itself is worth seeing. The new museum is the work of the recently deceased master I.M. Pei, and it can fully reflect the essence of traditional Suzhou architecture. There are four permanent exhibition halls in the museum, with rich contents on display, as well as some folk exhibitions. This museum is closed on Mondays, and reservations must be made one day in advance.
Suzhou Museum is the work of the master architect I.M. Pei. Its architectural design combines tradition and modernity, and the landscape gardens in the museum are unique. The museum is open to the public free of charge, so there are many tourists on weekends. It is recommended that you plan to go there on weekends and make an appointment on the official website in advance so that you don't have to queue up.
Tickets: Free
Suzhou Museum is definitely a popular tourist attraction. Fortunately, it is not the peak season, so there is no need to queue up to enter the museum.
The basic exhibition hall has only one floor. The museum has four permanent exhibition halls, namely "Treasures of Wu", "National Treasures of Wu Tower", "Elegance of Wu" and "Calligraphy and Painting of Wu School". The film and television hall and multi-functional hall are both arranged in the basement. The special exhibition hall holds exhibitions of modern art from home and abroad from time to time.
In addition to the various precious exhibits displayed inside, the most famous thing here is the building itself. The simple and bright three-dimensional geometric shape, coupled with the simple gray and white colors, forms a visually modern aesthetic.
The weather changes so fast. It was sunny in the morning, but now it is raining heavily. We have to stay in the museum and wait for the rain to stop or get lighter. Many people just sit in a corner and take a nap. The business of the umbrella vendor at the door is very hot. They can also rely on the weather for their living.

In terms of architecture, this is the best museum in China! No doubt about it! Mr. Pei Ming left us such an amazing building, which is really a blessing for all Chinese people. Suzhou Museum is as beautiful as a girl. Every brick, tile, flower, plant and tree in the museum is so beautiful that it touches people!
It is a good display of the iconic buildings of traditional Suzhou and modern Suzhou culture, but it always feels like something is missing.
Remember to make an appointment or you will have to queue up, it seems to be on WeChat. Bei Lao's usual geometric divisions, small and elegant, worth a visit.
A very charming museum. The overall architecture is so beautiful. I really want to come here.
The sense of art is very strong, with a sense of space and three-dimensionality. Highly recommended
Designed by I.M. Pei, Suzhou Museum integrates modern museum buildings, ancient Prince Zhong’s Palace architecture, and innovative landscape gardens.
The architecture in the Subo Museum is so beautiful to take photos in!
The architectural style is fresh and artistic, and everything is so natural.
After a day of sightseeing, it is a good idea to visit a museum.
The tickets are not expensive, and you can visit many things and learn some new skills. Of course, rich people can also buy some things.
I have to give a thumbs up to Suzhou Museum!! It's free and beautiful! It's awesome! I also give a thumbs up to Mr. Bei~ He's awesome~
You must make an appointment on the official account before going. The flow is limited now, and you cannot enter without an appointment.
Suzhou Museum is a must-visit place when you go to Suzhou. The building itself is a work of art! Remember to make an appointment in advance before you go~
It's a nice place for a short trip alone. I hope I can come to Suzhou with my loved ones next time.
It is worth seeing. The building is particularly unique and the exhibits are exquisite.
Beautiful! I was just in time for the volunteer's explanation, and the lady's explanation was very good. The cultural and creative products were also great. It was the first time I saw a museum selling wine. I bought two taels of osmanthus wine and drank it in the teahouse in the museum. I was intoxicated.
It is right next to the Humble Administrator's Garden. It is best to make an appointment in advance on the official website. You can enter the park directly by swiping your ID card without queuing. If you make an appointment on site, you will have to queue up for a long time. A beautiful vacation will be ruined by a queue!!!
World Chinese Architect I.M. Pei Designs New Suzhou Museum
The Pritzker Prize winner, Chinese-American architect I.M. Pei, presided over the design and construction. The granite roof is in line with the surrounding pink walls and black tiles. The building is mainly geometric in shape, using glass and other materials to introduce natural light, creating the beauty of geometry and light and shadow.
If there is something unsatisfactory about Suzhou, I would say that it is probably this museum for me; as a garden, it is absolutely beautiful, a modern museum, ancient architectural style, modern museum buildings, and ancient buildings are combined to form the final work of Master Ieoh Ming Lin. This is a beautiful and innovative landscape garden, but it has lost the classic collection as a museum. I love to visit museums very much, and I am conquered by its uniqueness, but there are very few Suzhou embroidery in it, which is the only unsatisfactory place. I feel that I spend more time visiting the garden.
Suzhou flavor, picturesque scenery
Worth the queue
There are a lot of people queuing at the door waiting to visit. It is recommended that you make an appointment online so that you can enter directly and avoid the pain of waiting.
The design sense of the Suzhou Museum is super strong! Modern and classical coexist! The online reservation channel is closed. When I went there, there were surprisingly few people! There was no queue at all! The Suzhou Museum really embodies the style of Suzhou gardens to the fullest!
Suzhou Museum was founded in 1960. In 1999, Suzhou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government invited the world-renowned Chinese architect I.M. Pei to design the new Suzhou Museum. On October 6, 2006, the new Suzhou Museum was completed and officially opened to the public. The new museum covers an area of about 10,700 square meters, with a construction area of more than 19,000 square meters. Together with the renovated Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Zhongwang Mansion, the total construction area is 26,500 square meters, with an investment of 339 million yuan. Suzhou Museum is a national key cultural relic protection unit, and it is also a comprehensive museum that integrates modern museum buildings, ancient buildings and innovative landscape gardens.
It is a good choice to take photos in a literary and fresh way.
Suzhou Museum is very modern, and the new garden designed by Mr. I.M. Pei is very attractive. The collision of modern and ancient styles, the black and white combination reveals the simplicity and clarity of modernity, and also shows the ink and wash colors of the Jiangnan water town, which blends well and complements each other.
This is an internet-famous tourist attraction. Its construction features are one of the reasons, and another reason is that it is free. There are not many exhibits, but they are all high-quality and worth a visit.
The architectural design and the fun of walking through the various pavilions are greater than the value of the exhibits themselves. The location is excellent, you won't regret going there!
It has a unique style and beautiful shape. It is close to Prince Zhong's Mansion, Humble Administrator's Garden, and Suzhou Garden Museum. It receives up to 3,000 people a day, with 900 people in the museum at the same time. No tickets are required, so it is best to queue up early.
It's quite pretty and has a good sense of design, but there aren't many collections and I finished the tour quickly. There were no particularly outstanding collections. I bought a tea can in the museum, which is quite pretty.
You need your ID card to get your ticket to the museum. Oversized packages are not allowed to be brought in, and dangerous goods that need to be stored are also not allowed to be brought in. There will be security checks, and then you can start your tour.
The museum is formally divided into three parts. The central part is the entrance, lobby and museum garden; the western part is the exhibition area; the eastern part is the modern art gallery (there will be different exhibitions at different time periods, there will be unexpected gains), educational facilities, tea service and administrative management functions.
Recommended play time: 1.5-2 hours
Admission to Suzhou Museum is free, but you need to log on to the official website one week in advance to apply for free tickets, choose a tour time, and then bring your ID card to the automatic ticket machine at the entrance of Suzhou Museum at the designated time on the day of the tour to pick up your ticket, and then enter the park with your ticket.
The entrance was smooth. The museum is neither big nor small. In addition to the buildings, there is also the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Zhongwang Mansion. The museum was designed by the world-class Chinese designer Ieoh Ming Pei. I don’t know much about design. The first feeling I had when I entered was that it was neat and clean. It can be said to be a blessing for people with obsessive-compulsive disorder. Every building is very clean.
Like most museums, the Suzhou Museum is free of charge and allows entry with ID cards. When you first enter the museum, you can queue up to receive an interpreter. All exhibits reflect the exquisite craftsmanship and pursuit of excellence of the craftsmen at that time.
The most impressive thing is the double-sided embroidery. Suzhou embroidery is complex in craftsmanship and the use of thread is very particular.
Please note that the number of people is limited, and reservations must be made online one day in advance! (It may be okay in the off-season, but reservations must be made in the peak season) There is a design work by I.M. Pei on the Suzhou Museum. White walls, black tiles, small bridges and flowing water all reflect the landscape pattern of Suzhou.
It's a very ordinary park. You have to queue up. I don't recommend it. You can go or not. After all, there is no ticket. The collection is very small, less than a quarter of the Nanjing Museum, and half is real and half is fake. The decoration is like a club, no feeling
It was very hot, there were a lot of people, especially children, and it was very noisy. I liked the whole architectural style, but I didn't dare to stay any longer.
The last stop is Suzhou Museum, which is on the left side of Humble Administrator's Garden and is open to the public and free to visit. You need to go through security check before entering, and you cannot bring food, but you can bring water. You can store food at a special storage point opposite the entrance, which is free of charge.
It has unique architectural features and precious cultural relics. The free visit is not to be missed.
I arrived at Suzhou Museum at 16:00. There were fewer people there. I queued for 5 minutes before entering. The museum closed at 16:40. Reservations are required, but you can enter without reservations. Just queue at the door. In fact, there were very few people when I entered near closing time. To be honest, I like to visit former residences more than museums. I was attracted by its exterior design this time. It has a sense of design and a refreshing feeling.
In the works of Master I.M. Pei, every step is a scene, every flower and grass is a world!
The building is a model of the combination of tradition and modernity. No tickets are required, but you have to queue up to enter. If you don’t want to wait, you can make an appointment a few days in advance and enter directly with your ID card. There are also koi fish inside!
It was my second time to visit Suzhou Museum. It's not big, but the architecture is so stylish. And it was the time for the Great Ding Exhibition. If you don't understand, you can go and watch that issue of "National Treasure". And if you make an appointment in advance, you can directly scan your ID card to enter, without queuing at the door.
This time I bought some masking tape from Suzhou Museum as a souvenir.
