The Ancient Kiln and Folk Customs Exhibition Area is mainly divided into two parts: the Historical Ancient Kiln Exhibition Area and the Ceramic Folk Customs Exhibition Area. Here you can see ancient kilns from the Song Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty.
It is a collection of ancient buildings, ancient workshops, ancient crafts, ancient kilns and ancient gardens, which is a microcosm of Jingdezhen's ceramic culture.
There are various types of porcelain in the scenic area, including the town kiln of the Qing Dynasty, the imperial kiln of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the gourd kiln of the Ming Dynasty, the mantou kiln of the Yuan Dynasty, the dragon kiln of the Song Dynasty, etc.
Also worth seeing is the performance of the Women's Porcelain Band in the scenic area. All the instruments used by this band are made of porcelain from Jingdezhen.

Before going to Jingdezhen, I also came here to check the reviews. Although there were mixed reviews, just like online shopping, consumers always pay special attention to negative reviews. The negative reviews that impressed me the most were: "The park is dilapidated and there is nothing to see at all" and "The masters in the workshop are very lazy. They only pretend to do things when there are tourists, and basically do not work." I was half-believing and half-doubting, and after much hesitation, I finally went. Now, I must restore the reputation of the ancient kiln!!!
First of all, the ancient kiln park is quaint, exquisite and elegant, with a new view at every step. It is definitely not "dilapidated"! As soon as you enter the park, there is an open stone road. On the right is a long fence, inlaid with various colored porcelain pieces, colorful and exquisite. Various porcelain bottles are placed on the fence at intervals. It was still raining at the time. These open-air porcelain bottles looked more crystal clear and shiny under the scouring of rain, and the bottle mouths were filled with rainwater, which was very interesting. Even the toilets and trash cans here are very delicate, with very beautiful details.
Secondly, we must talk about the porcelain-making masters in the workshops. They are all very simple and enthusiastic! Some people commented that they only work when tourists come. Isn't this nonsense? If there are no tourists, they will keep working. Who are they doing it for? Aren't the masters tired? After all, this is not a ceramic factory, but just an exhibition area to demonstrate the porcelain-making process. The masters are very warm and hospitable. I was the only one there at the time, and they also demonstrated it to me. Here I give an exclusive tip: If you want the master to demonstrate it to you, you can take the initiative to ask! They will definitely not refuse! There was a particularly cute master among them. We took a photo together, and later he drove me to Taoxichuan. Hum, I won’t tell you who it is, so as not to grab it from me (>^ω^<)
Finally, the porcelain music performance is very pleasant to the ears, but there seem to be only three performances a day, and there is a fixed schedule, so you have to ask in advance and go to reserve a seat ten minutes in advance, otherwise you can only stand and listen. The porcelain music performance is in the "Folk Customs Area" of the park, the innermost "Porcelain Sound Waterside Pavilion".
In short, Jingdezhen is really a good place, as soft as porcelain, and warms people's hearts... I hope everyone can be more respectful and tolerant to the staff of the scenic area, so that you can have a good time.
1. Except for Workshop 1, the other attractions are quite ordinary. There are many craftsmen in Workshop 1, each of whom is responsible for different processes, such as throwing, trimming, glazing, etc. You can get a close look at the porcelain making process, which is a very good experience. The rest of the attractions did not give me a sense of surprise, and I felt sorry for the 5A rating. It may be because too many high-level figures came to get it.
2. The so-called mantou kiln and gourd kiln are not made in reality, they just put up a sign to introduce them. There is not much feeling.
3. If you want to watch a porcelain musical instrument performance, remember to consult at the visitor center and grasp the performance time.
Jingdezhen Ancient Kiln Homestay Expo Area
The expo area is mainly divided into two parts: the historical ancient kiln display area and the ceramic homestay display area. It brings together ancient buildings, ancient workshops, ancient crafts, ancient kiln rooms, and ancient porcelain customs. It is a microcosm of Jingdezhen's ceramic culture.
Seeing the old craftsmen carefully and meticulously carving the patterns on the ceramics, I was inspired by their spirit of craftsmanship.
When the experienced craftsmen are making the products, every process (from throwing the clay to glazing) is meticulous and orderly, which is really something I need to learn.
Opening hours: 8:00-17:00
The Official Kiln Museum is very large and is well worth a careful visit. Needless to say, the scenery is beautiful. I also learned a lot about porcelain making and refining. I was moved by the stories of the working people represented by the kiln prodigy Guan, and I was proud of the wisdom of my ancestors... In short, I had a lot of emotions. I walked slowly and carefully here and did not leave the scenic area until it got dark.
Thanks to my wife, I can get free tickets in the Year of the Pig and bring 3 half-price tickets. I went there on the fourth day of the Lunar New Year. There were still quite a lot of people in the scenic area. The scenic area is 5A-level, not very big, and it's nice to walk around. You can also participate in the lottery by answering questions in the academy, and you can win mobile phone cases and postcards. There are still many shops selling porcelain in the scenic area. It's pretty. The town kiln has the most people queuing to take pictures.
Relax, it is a very good tourist attraction, because no matter whether it is the ticket office or the storage office, the ladies are lazy and their attitude is very likely to be bad, similar to the state of some elderly people in public institutions who eat for free. However, many tourist attractions in Jiangxi are like this.
Apart from that, the overall planning and details are amazing, I would like to pay tribute to the design team. It is a very interesting place.
You can see the masters working on site, and you can also buy porcelain and DIY.
You can learn a lot of knowledge imperceptibly, provided you pay attention to discover, and you can also review the knowledge you have read in the museum. Marvel at the brilliant cultural heritage.
The Ming and Qing Gardens started clearing at 4:30, and the Ancient Kiln started clearing at 5:00.
You can refer to here for villa decoration, you won’t be disappointed.
Very interesting,
The location is quite far from the main road. It is recommended not to drive directly to the ticket office of the Expo area when entering or exiting twice. At least you should walk along the antique plank road from the main road to the ticket office once when entering or exiting. There are many bamboo slips standing on the ground, which have some knowledge about porcelain firing written on them. Now that you are here, you must explore it.
Here we come to the ancient kiln! Please note that it takes one hour to pick up the tickets after online booking, so if you want to come, it’s best to get up early, book the tickets and then have a meal, so that you can get there just in time!
Just pick up your ticket at the Visitor Service Center~ Purchase online and scan the QR code to pick up your ticket when you arrive.
As soon as you enter the scenic area, you will see blue and white porcelain everywhere on both sides~~~~ There is a map at the entrance of the scenic area. You can take it and walk along the way, or you can walk by feeling. It is a very mature scenic area and you can't get lost haha
You can still see many craftsmen in the ancient kiln. The kiln factory now has become a place for visiting and experiencing.
The time period we chose was around 12:30, and we came out of the tour around 2 o'clock. The afternoon tour group and tourists were just starting to walk towards the scenic area, and we successfully avoided the tourists.
This is a 5A-level scenic spot, and the guide certificate is half-price (50 yuan). The entire exhibition area is built on a slope forest park with rich vegetation. Enter from the ancient kiln visiting path and walk about 10 minutes to the ticket office. Walk through the porcelain stele corridor and visit the dragon kiln of the Song Dynasty, the steamed bun kiln of the Yuan Dynasty, the gourd kiln of the Ming Dynasty, the imperial kiln of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the lion kiln of the Qing Dynasty, and the town kiln of the Qing Dynasty; although the porcelain fired in each kiln is very different, it represents the highest porcelain firing technology at the time. There is also a porcelain showroom, where most of the porcelain here costs between 5,000 and 60,000 yuan. Although it is exquisite, the price of porcelain has far exceeded the actual price of porcelain.
On the north side are the relocated ancient buildings, and for some reason the commercial area on the south side is not accessible.
Objectively speaking, this attraction is a typical victim of the unlimited expansion of scenic spots. If it were just a few rebuilt ancient kilns and master workshops, with half the ticket price, and the Ming and Qing gardens and stele corridors were separated, with the research and study attributes of the porcelain industry and the masters' works that keep pace with the times, I believe the popularity would soar. Indeed, the knowledge I learned here permeated the entire trip to Jingdezhen.
The tour lasts about 3 hours, so be sure to pay attention to the music time.
It is a theme park of ancient kilns, which recreates history. Here, you can see the production process of ceramics, semi-finished products, finished products, and fine products. It is worth a visit.
Tongbin Square is home to the iconic bronze statue of Tongbin, a porcelain-making prodigy in the Ming Dynasty. Tongbin was a porcelain-making technician in the Ming Dynasty, and later became a part of Chinese folk beliefs. He is one of the industry gods worshipped by the Jingdezhen ceramics industry since the late Ming Dynasty.
Turn right at the square and you will see a gate called Ancient Kiln. Walk in and you will reach the main area of the Ancient Kiln Customs Expo, where there are Fenghuo Xianshi Temple, ancient porcelain workshops, ancient kilns and other attractions. These attractions show people ancient porcelain industry buildings, the process of handmade porcelain making in Jingdezhen during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and traditional famous porcelain masterpieces.
Back to Tongbin Square and walking in the other direction is the Folk Museum.
Jingdezhen Folk Museum is a 5A-level scenic spot in Jingdezhen City. Although it is well-known, I personally feel that this scenic spot is not worth visiting, especially the ticket price of 95 yuan, which really makes people feel like they have fallen into a pit. This is the only particularly disappointing attraction in our trip to Jiangxi! Since it is a folk museum, you should run the museum well. Why do you make it like a porcelain wholesale market? The museum is full of porcelain sales from beginning to end. I don’t know if it is wholesaled from Yiwu. It is hard to tell whether it is real or fake. The commercial atmosphere is really too strong, giving people a feeling of falling into the eyes of money.
It's not that I'm against selling things in scenic spots. If you want to sell things, you can at least sell them in one area. This museum is full of things for sale. People who don't know the situation would think they are in the porcelain city of Jingdezhen. The museum is also average. There are only a few larger kilns to see along the way. The rest are just looking at porcelain sold by small vendors. This is really speechless in a 5A-level scenic spot.
Jingdezhen is one of the first batch of "historical cities" announced by the country, an excellent tourist city in China, and a national AAAA-level scenic spot. This exhibition area is a cultural industry demonstration area of the Ministry of Culture, including museums, ancient kilns (simulation), and folk houses (overall migration).
There's not much to see. You can watch the master craftsman making pottery on the spot. The blue and white porcelain musical instrument performance is a bit watery, but it is a feature after all. I personally think it's not particularly worth visiting.
I arrived at 7:40 in the morning and wanted to use the restroom next door, but the door was closed. I knocked and a woman inside said, "It will open at 8 o'clock." I had no choice but to endure it.
There was a women's band inside, and the performance was very amateur. There was a erhu player who kept playing etudes during the break, which was unpleasant to the ear and was just noise for tourists.
There is a folk exhibition area inside, which is very confusing. I have no idea what it expresses and the content is meaningless.
OK, I hate to say that as a five-star tourist attraction, it doesn't live up to its reputation.
You need to buy tickets to the scenic spot, 95 yuan per person, which is a bit expensive.
If you want to understand the porcelain production process and see various ancient kilns, you must come here.
With cultural heritage and beautiful scenery, it is a must-see place when visiting Jingdezhen! The only porcelain band in China is a must-see. Porcelain is used to the extreme.
Jingdezhen is world famous for its ceramics. This beautiful city named after an emperor preserves cave dwellings from various dynasties and is worth visiting. It is not far from Wuyuan and you can go directly to Wuyuan for 10 yuan.
You can experience the ceramic culture of Jingdezhen up close and comprehensively.
The ticket is a bit expensive. I found that there were very few tourists when I entered. This should be the 5A scenic spot with the least tourists I have ever visited. To be fair, the scenery, hygiene, and service (I especially like the teahouse) are quite good.
Don't miss the porcelain concert.
You have to walk several hundred meters along the tree-lined avenue to see the entrance to the scenic area. If it weren’t for the piles of kiln firewood along the way, you would have thought you were walking on the approach to a Japanese shrine.
TIP: Vehicles can enter and there is a parking lot inside
🎫Tickets: 95 yuan/person, online electronic tickets 85 yuan (orders must be placed one hour in advance).
I placed an order through a travel agency on China-TravelNote. Not only was there a 6 yuan discount per ticket, but I could also use honey to offset the price. The last ticket was about 75 yuan. It is said that there were also scalpers selling tickets on site.
Tickets are collected from the machine in the exhibition hall on the left side of the entrance to the visitor center, not from the manual channel, and tickets are issued with ID cards.
In fact, there are no sightseeing buses in the scenic area, but it is not far to Tongbin Square by walking along the lake.
Tips:
1. It is recommended to go to the right first, as the essence of the scenic area lies here. Among them, the six major workshops and several kilns from the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties are worth checking out.
2. It is best to hire a guide or follow a guide closely, otherwise it will be a bit confusing to visit by yourself (the fee seems to be 100 yuan)
The intangible cultural heritage inheritors in the scenic area's workshops have directly restored the entire production process: from throwing the pottery, printing the pottery, sharpening the pottery, decorating the pottery, digging the foot to glazing. Their workshops are next to each other, and tourists can get a general understanding of the entire pottery-making process by just following the flow of people.
Let me add a comment here. I think the prices in the scenic area are not cheap, whether it is for experience or shopping. I saw a set of tableware that is exactly the same as ours, priced at 19,600, and I was dumbfounded. If you want to experience it and have arranged a trip to the Sculpture Porcelain Factory, I suggest you go to the Sculpture Porcelain Factory. According to previous travel notes, the masters in the scenic area are not one-on-one teaching, and they can't be found after teaching for ten minutes. The college students there are more patient. As long as you spend less than half the price, they can teach you to make a complete work step by step, and then burn it and mail it to your home.
Piles of kiln firewood can be seen everywhere in the ancient kiln scenic area. The structure of the house is made of pine wood blocks piled up.
Unlike other kilns, Zhenyao was completely dark like a cave. But it was crowded with people, a long line stretched to the door, and a red light was shining at the other end.
The scenic area closed at 17:00 and began to be cleared around 16:45, so we hurried out of the park without even having time to visit the homestay display area.
Tour time: The scenic area is not very big, and it takes 2-3 hours to visit it slowly.
The ticket price is not expensive. I bought it online for 77 yuan. The guide says that it takes about 1-3 hours to complete the tour. The main attractions here are the ancient kiln display and the ceramic folk display area. To be honest, it’s just to see how ceramics are produced. The scenery of the entire park is still relatively good. Then there are various ancient kilns. These kilns are not real. They are all imitated by later generations in recent years through the previous kiln building methods. Why do they do this? In fact, it is just to let the public understand the ancient kilns. There is no need for a tour guide to explain. Just take a look at it casually. Besides, we are not enthusiasts of ceramic culture, so just browse it. It took more than 2 hours to visit all the attractions.
After visiting Huangshan, I came here to take a walk when I changed trains on the way back. There are not so many traditional craft workshops in the town. But there are performances in the scenic area, which are broadcast on time. We just watched one, and we sat in the front row. The instrument was made of homemade ceramics, which sounded very nice. There were also few people in the scenic area at this time. Although it was suitable for taking pictures, the weather was very hot and sunny. I would not go to the shaded places if I could find them.
Ancient Kiln:
The highlight here is that you can see the entire production process of porcelain, from throwing the embryo to coloring, all done by experienced craftsmen. You can also draw patterns on the pulled bowl embryos yourself, with different charges depending on the size, the largest one is 100 yuan per bowl, and it will be mailed after it is painted and fired.
When you come to Jingdezhen, it is better to buy a piece of porcelain as a souvenir.
There is a post office selling postcards on the left side of the entrance to Jingdezhen. You can get seal patterns for free and the attitude is very good. As a seal pattern collector, I got several stamps.
I imagined Jingdezhen to be small and retro, like a town. But after I went there, I found that Jingdezhen is a city, and the ancient town of porcelain is just one of the attractions.
route:
Take the high-speed train from Wuyuan to Jingdezhen, it's very fast
Day 1: Porcelain Street - Taoxichuan
Day 2: China Ceramics Museum——Ancient Kiln
Tao Xichuan:
I highly recommend going there at night, the lights are beautiful. This is a comprehensive art park with art districts, museums, pottery shops, restaurants and hotels.
The main building here should be regarded as the landmark of Jingdezhen. The museum inside is worth a visit. It is an artistic construction on the original site. You can learn about the production process and development of ceramics. It is also nice to take pictures inside.
At the innermost part of the art district is a large porcelain store with stalls one after another, and the prices are not expensive.
I strongly recommend staying at the Guomao Hotel inside Taoxichuan (price is around 400). It is right inside the Taoxichuan Park and has a super good location. The hotel is great for taking photos and there are food options around it (Hutaoli, Late Night Canteen, etc.). You can stay here for one day during your trip and visit Taoxichuan directly.
China National Ceramics Museum:
The museum is free with student ID and ID card. It is a must-visit museum when you come to Jingdezhen. There are several exhibitions on the first floor of the museum where you can take pictures. There are still many collections in the entire museum.
It is recommended to visit for about 1.5 hours
Pottery Street:
It's a landmine, don't go there. It's just a street selling porcelain, but it's very expensive and far away. If you want to buy porcelain, you can go to Taoxichuan or Guyao.
stay:
I stayed in the city center, very close to the shopping mall. Taoshe Art Hotel (about 200 on Guangchang South Road) is very convenient to go anywhere. Jingdezhen is not big, and the attractions are all in the city. It's about 10 yuan from the hotel to each attraction.
I feel the tickets are a bit expensive. Porcelain is sold everywhere. There are old artists making porcelain on site and selling it. Because it is purely handmade, it is more expensive than ordinary porcelain.
When you come to the ancient kiln scenic area, you can learn about the ancient craftsmanship of making porcelain and appreciate some fine porcelain products. However, the prices are really expensive.
It seems that when you arrive in Jingdezhen, this folk customs expo area is a must-visit place. You can directly see the throwing, making of porcelain, glazing, etc., and see the ancient kilns from the Ming and Qing dynasties, and you can learn a lot.
A must-visit scenic spot when visiting Jingdezhen. The scenery of the scenic spot is very beautiful. In Fengshu Mountain, bamboo forests and trees can be seen everywhere, which is particularly cool. The biggest feature of the scenic spot is the ancient kilns from various dynasties, as well as the restored kilns. Many of them can still be used today. The kilns will be opened at a specific time every autumn to burn porcelain. The scenic spot introduces the production process of porcelain, the changes in craftsmanship, trades related to porcelain, folk culture, etc. from different aspects. The introduction is very comprehensive. In some areas, you can personally experience porcelain making. Overall, it is very distinctive and a good choice for people who come to Jingdezhen to understand Jingdezhen and porcelain.
You can only pick up your tickets one hour after booking online, so remember this. The two-yuan rime tea in the town kiln is worth a try. The two little ones gulped down a big bowl. It is much more thirst-quenching than the freshly squeezed juice at the door.
The ticket price for the Jingdezhen Ancient Kiln Folk Customs Expo Area is 95 yuan. Here, the inheritors of intangible cultural heritage demonstrate the production process of handmade porcelain, including throwing, printing, trimming, decorating, digging, glazing, etc. You can also make it yourself. There are also the appearances of the former imperial kilns and ancient kilns. Sometimes there are also various kilns in use, such as steamed bun kilns, lion kilns, dragon kilns, gourd kilns, etc.
After lunch, we went straight to the Ancient Kiln B&B Expo Area. Ceramic skills have always been the pride of the Chinese. We also learned about the origin of CHINA. Jingdezhen was called Changnan in ancient times. Porcelain was spread abroad along the Silk Road. Foreigners all knew that this exquisite and beautiful thing came from Changnan, so it was called CHINA. When reading the guide, I found that it was necessary to hire a tour guide to visit the Expo Area, otherwise I would just go through it without knowing anything. With a humble and studious attitude, I spent 100 yuan to hire a tour guide. It was a coincidence that we met tour guide No. 001. He had led many leaders, so we gained a lot this time. What amazed me most was the exquisite eyes and pastels. The masters' skills were naturally ingenious. What made me sigh was that I only did one thing in my life and did it well. In this flashy world, it is such a precious quality to be at ease and good at one thing. I was just busy with wow, and I didn't take a good photo. It's a pity.
It takes a while to walk from the entrance to the ticket office. Ceramic elements can be seen everywhere along the way. It feels great. The scenic area is well integrated with ceramics, and the trees on both sides of the road are also lush. In fact, when I was making a guide, I was impressed by this ancient kiln scenic area, not because of its scenery, nor because there are many porcelains in it, but because there are many craftsmen in it. They show the production process of porcelain in the most authentic way. I like it.
Walking along the road, there are bamboo forests all the way, as well as walls and paths decorated with ceramics. Looking at the various ceramics, you can marvel at the beauty of art. When you walk to the kiln entrance in the Ancient Kiln Folk Customs Expo Area, you will see a lot of ceramic crafts on the ground or in the soil in the square. At this time, you can see the porcelain "sleeping" on the grass with a shadow. It is very creative and has a strong ceramic flavor. The unique design is not recommended. It is much more expensive than outside, except for those who know the business and the local tyrants. In turn, you can see the town kiln of the Qing Dynasty, the imperial kiln of the Ming and Qing Dynasties (green kiln, dragon jar kiln), the gourd kiln of the Ming Dynasty, the steamed bun kiln of the Yuan Dynasty, and the dragon kiln of the Song Dynasty. Spend a few dollars to drink a bowl of kiln worker tea and chat with the kiln workers. You can learn a lot about porcelain and ancient kilns.
If you go to Jingdezhen, you should visit the Ancient Kiln Folk Expo Area. After all, Jingdezhen is the Porcelain Capital, so how can you not go there to see ceramics? You can also make ceramics by yourself, which is super interesting.
Tickets for the ancient kiln are very cheap online, 65 yuan. You have to buy it one hour in advance to use it on site. Tickets bought on site are 95 yuan. It is a very worthwhile attraction to visit. You can learn about the craftsmanship of the craftsmen and you can also experience it yourself. Draw pictures on the pottery and it will be sent to your home after it is fired.
I like the hollow porcelain made inside, there are so many caves, I really want to buy a set of tea sets
Although the Expo area is located in the city, the towering ancient kiln road instantly separates the hustle and bustle of the street, allowing people to enter a world hidden in the city. Outside the Expo area, the eight words "see the Forbidden City in the north and visit the ancient kiln in the south" clearly show the status of the ancient kiln site in Jingdezhen. If you visit the porcelain capital Jingdezhen, if you don't visit the ancient kiln site, then this trip is doomed to be incomplete. Walking into the Expo area, surrounded by green trees and bamboo forests, large and small Hui-style buildings are scattered among them, and the blue bricks and black tiles are set against layers of green, like a hidden pure land. The core of the Ancient Kiln Folk Customs Expo Area is the ancient kiln, from the dragon kiln in the Song Dynasty to the steamed bun kiln in the Yuan Dynasty, to the gourd kiln in the Ming Dynasty, and finally to the egg-shaped kiln in the Qing Dynasty. Here you can clearly understand the evolution of ancient kilns.
A place that far exceeds your expectations. It not only has cultural heritage, but also has scenery that makes you linger, and there is also a warm free shuttle bus. It is really worth the trip.
The scenic area is not very big, and it mainly consists of two areas. On the right hand side of the entrance are some ancient kilns, kilns and workshops from the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. This area is not bad, but not all of them are open to the public. On the left hand side are some ancient houses such as Qingyuan and Dafudi, which are very ordinary and not visited by many people. A large area at the back is still under renovation.
It only took 2 hours. I had planned to spend the whole day making ceramics and other things...
The intangible cultural heritage inheritors here are of three generations, but most of them are old. What is it like to be an intangible cultural heritage inheritor? How does it feel to have no successor? Watching the master glaze, the one on the right is before firing, and the one on the left is the finished product. The color change is really wonderful~
What is glaze? The master said it is a mineral.
The ceramic experience is 30 yuan per session. The master wants the clay to be whatever it is, but the clay just doesn't listen to the experiencer. In the end, with the help of the master, it was just a round bowl. I have tried this thing, it is not that easy. The most fun thing is that the master will let the friends and family stand in the best position to take pictures of the experiencer, hahahaha~~~
The live demonstration by the master craftsman was the most exciting content. The old houses in another area did not quite match the content of the scenic spot, and the folk music performance with porcelain instruments was better than nothing.
It has a craftsman atmosphere. There are many semi-finished products and clay models, and you can see the masters drawing. I invited a tour guide to explain the various kilns. It feels that it is not easy to make a perfect work~
Gain an in-depth understanding of the entire process of ceramic production and be amazed by the craftsmanship of ancient potters.
Jingdezhen Ancient Kiln Folk Customs Expo Area mainly introduces the refining, embryo pulling, molding and other processes of porcelain. There are several historical kilns, and porcelain is still being fired. There are many people selling porcelain, and the porcelain is too beautiful. There are also several ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties. The scenic area is not big, but it is worth a visit.
There are quite a lot of destinations to choose from in Jingdezhen, and many of them do not require tickets, but we chose the Jingdezhen Ancient Kiln Folk Customs Expo Area, which costs 90 yuan (people under 24 years old can buy student tickets. Fortunately, it was not my birthday when I went there, so I successfully got the student ticket~), which shows how important it is to me. This is the only national 5A-level tourist attraction in the country with the theme of ceramic culture. It is divided into three major areas: the ancient kiln display area, the ceramic folk custom display area, and the creative leisure area on the waterfront street. I personally think there are two main highlights: porcelain music performances and live demonstrations of porcelain making skills. The porcelain music performance is located in the ceramic folk custom display area, each show lasts 20 minutes, and the performance time can be seen on the official website; the live demonstration of porcelain making skills is located in the ancient kiln display area. It is strongly recommended to hire a tour guide or use the tour guide of other teams to visit this part! The tour guide will explain in detail the ceramic production process from clay preparation, throwing, printing, etc. to glazing and kiln firing, and professional ceramic masters will demonstrate each link on site. The focus is also on the evolution of the Dragon Kiln in the Song Dynasty, the Mantou Kiln in the Yuan Dynasty, the Gourd Kiln in the Ming Dynasty, and the Town Kiln in the Qing Dynasty. These cannot be understood simply by the text introduction on site. If there is no tour guide to explain, the whole trip is really a whirlwind tour, and you may feel that the ticket price is not worth it. After listening to the explanation, on the one hand, it will connect the various attractions in series, so that you will not be lost when you visit by yourself; on the other hand, it can be regarded as an introduction to ceramic knowledge, and it feels worthwhile!
If you want to see how porcelain is made, you must visit the ancient kiln. Each process is completed little by little by the potter. In the ancient kiln, we saw clay preparation, throwing, printing, sharpening, drying, carving, glazing, firing, painting, glaze color changes, etc. The porcelain that I see at home every time is so ordinary, but the production process is so complicated. Now I cherish it even more.
It is highly recommended for friends who are going to Jingdezhen to visit. The scenic area is rich in content, and master kiln workers show the production process of porcelain in person, and exhibit and sell exquisite porcelain.
Here, you can see ancient kilns from the Yuan Dynasty to modern times, and there are many introductions and explanations. There are also old artists and intangible cultural heritage inheritors performing porcelain making on the spot. Before coming here, I only knew about pulling embryos and coloring. After a tour in the Ancient Kiln Expo Park, I have a more comprehensive understanding of the production process of porcelain.
The scenic area is quite large, so you need to spend about half a day there. We spent 4 hours there.
The Ancient Kiln Expo Area will introduce and display the entire process of porcelain production in great detail.
Although the order of display you see during the tour may be different from the actual order, below, I have tried my best to restore the order in which the porcelain was made.
I probably came up with the name myself: Kneading clay → Pulling embryos → Firing (this is the most detailed) → Coloring (→ Firing (similar to the first firing process tools))
Tickets are 95 yuan each if you buy them now, and 10 yuan cheaper if you buy them online, but you have to buy them an hour in advance. I didn't make any travel plans so I had to buy them now.
Jingde Ancient Kiln Folk Expo Area is the flagship attraction of Jingdezhen. If you want to see the ceramic culture, you can skip other places, but you must visit this place.
I visited the museum from left to right, but it was a bit disorganized and I didn't get to visit some places. It's quite big inside and I spent about three hours there.
People here say, "See the Forbidden City in the north and visit the ancient kilns in the south." This is also the slogan here. That's why it is a national 5A-level tourist attraction. It is also one of the must-see attractions I mentioned.
The ground in the expo area is inlaid with large blue and white porcelain everywhere. I really want to take some home to raise fish.
There are ceramic inlaid buildings everywhere inside. It reminds me of the porcelain houses in Tianjin.
There are many kilns of various types in the exhibition area. Some are modern, some are left over from ancient times.
The exquisite beam carvings in the exhibition area made me marvel at the ingenious craftsmanship of the ancient people.
There are many porcelain shops in the Expo area that sell porcelain to tourists, with prices varying.
There are more people traveling in groups, and there are old men and women traveling in groups everywhere.
The Ancient Kiln Folk Customs Expo Area is located at No. 1, Guyao Road, Cidu Avenue, Jingdezhen City. The ticket price is 95 yuan per person. There are discounts for purchasing on the website. If kaolin clay provides the origin of porcelain and craftsmen provide the soul of porcelain, then the last step of firing for porcelain to become the final product is the presentation of life. What you see here is not the finished product, but the production process. The complete presentation of the porcelain production line gives people a deeper understanding. This is the feeling that the ancient kiln brings to me. The handicraft workshop area is the most worth seeing in the scenic area. The humanities and craftsman spirit are perfectly reflected here. Each handicraft workshop has a different theme, but unfortunately, workshops 3-6 are being rebuilt, and now only workshops 1 and 2 are open. The most touching part of visiting the ancient kiln is the reproduction and inheritance. Because the ancient kilns here are not historical relics, but are in service. Many ancient kilns have been rekindled and fired, and the thousand-year kiln fire is not extinguished, which is exactly what it means. There are many gift shops in the scenic area. If you still have time to visit other places, it is recommended not to buy here.
I went there in the off-season, so there were few people and beautiful scenery. There are ancient kiln buildings and Qing Dynasty residential buildings in the museum area. In the ancient kiln workshop, porcelain workers performed hand-made porcelain making skills and fired antique porcelain.
The most important thing is the experience. Not only are there many craftsmen making porcelain on site, but tourists can also join in and experience a certain part of it.
The student ticket for the ancient kiln is 50 RMB. China-TravelNote can book 5 RMB cheaper, but you can enter the park 1 hour after booking. I bought the ticket on site. The decoration of the ancient kiln with broken porcelain is really amazing.
The Ceramic History Expo Area is located beside a tree-lined mountain road, like a paradise, isolated from the noise and chaos of the city. In the Expo Area, there are ancient kilns from the Ming and Qing Dynasties to visit, production techniques to learn, introductions to various porcelains to understand, and finally, most importantly, there are live demonstrations by masters to amaze visitors. If you see a porcelain you like, you can also pay to take it home. The time required for the visit depends on your interest, it can be about 2 hours, half a day or even longer.
I personally like this place very much. When I went there, I asked for an explanation. Every time I feel that I still need to understand the local folk culture and craftsmanship, and this time is no exception. From the production process to the finished product, many intangible cultural heritage inheritors work here. They are working, so when I was shooting, I was just taking snapshots. They said they didn't cooperate with taking pictures... Haha. After appreciating the production process, I went to visit the ancient kilns such as the Zhen Kiln of the Qing Dynasty, the Hulu Kiln of the Ming Dynasty, the Mantou Kiln of the Yuan Dynasty, and the Long Kiln of the Song Dynasty. Then, I climbed the steps from the fork of Workshop No. 2 and walked along the mountain forest trail to the Ciyin Waterside Pavilion to listen to a "porcelain music performance".

The Ancient Kiln Expo Area is the most famous attraction in Jingdezhen. There is an exhibition area showing the entire process of making porcelain, and there are also shops selling porcelain. The prices are relatively expensive, but there are also good and bad porcelains. People who don’t study it in depth really can’t tell. If you want to buy some as a souvenir, you can. After all, it is an ancient kiln expo park, there will be no inferior porcelain.
The park is really big, and there are many foreign tourists in the park. I guess Jingdezhen porcelain has long been famous. In the tourist experience area, tourists can paint on unfinished porcelain, and then they will be mailed to you after firing, which is quite commemorative.
This is a small scenic spot belonging to the Ancient Kiln Expo Area, and is also a classic part of the ancient kiln. You can see the production process of porcelain.
There are several old artists in the scenic area showing off. The scenery of the scenic area is so-so. Don't buy products in the scenic area. The price is higher than the market price outside. The rich are free to do whatever they want.
I walked around for half a day, carefully watching various kilns and old craftsmen making ceramic products. Even at such an old age, they are still meticulous and meticulous. I didn't pay attention to my wallet, which was a way to show some respect to these old craftsmen and Chinese traditions.
There are many places to visit inside, and you can also visit and experience the process of making ceramics. We walked around for most of the day and still haven't finished playing, hehe
2016.1.17 Liangzi and I walked through the Jingdezhen Ancient Kiln Expo Area, admiring the masterpieces of the ancients and the creations of modern people; it was pleasing to the eyes and broadened our horizons;
Marvel at the craftsmanship of the old artists making pottery on site, a world cultural heritage.
The scenic area is very large and it takes most of the day to visit it. The ticket is 95 yuan. I saw ceramics everywhere and had a deeper understanding of ceramic culture. I saw countless fine ceramic products and I wanted to have every one of them.
Pine wood used for firing porcelain is now mostly fired with natural gas, and it is also equipped with a temperature. In ancient times, there were no thermometers, and people relied on their experience to guess. The success rate of ceramics can be imagined~~
Fortunately, in ancient times, exquisite ceramics were used by dignitaries and emperors, and many fine products were made at all costs.
It takes about 2 hours to carefully look at the ancient kiln factory. At noon, you can go to the cultural area to listen to porcelain music.
A porcelain music show lasts about 10 minutes, with 4 to 5 songs.
Ordinary yet extraordinary things, ordinary yet extraordinary people.
When you come to Jingdezhen, you must visit the Jingdezhen Ancient Kiln Folk Expo Area, which is located at No. 1, Ancient Kiln Road, Porcelain Capital Avenue, Jingdezhen City. It is the first choice for Jingdezhen ceramic cultural tourism, where you can deeply appreciate the profound history and culture of the Porcelain Capital.
The ancient kiln display area includes ancient porcelain workshops, the world's oldest porcelain production line, the Qing Dynasty Zhen Kiln, the Ming Dynasty Hulu Kiln, the Yuan Dynasty Mantou Kiln, the Song Dynasty Dragon Kiln, the Fenghuo Xianshi Temple, the Porcelain Shop and other attractions. It shows people the ancient porcelain industry architecture, the process of hand-made porcelain making in Jingdezhen during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and traditional famous porcelain products.
The Folklore Exhibition Area of Ceramic Culture is a folklore scenic area centered on 12 ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties. There are folklore displays of ceramic culture, the Queen of Heaven Temple, the porcelain stele corridor, and porcelain music performances on the water stage. The creative leisure area of Shui'an Qianjie has porcelain culture creative leisure landscapes such as Changnan Wenci, Sanlv Temple Wharf, Gengqie Taoyan, Qianci Jinsheng, and Muci Qianyuan. Here, we can see the context of China's thousand-year-old ceramic culture.
The driver took us in and said we were going to buy ceramics. We just had to give the local driver some money. Inside were the ruins of various ancient kilns and some ceramic specialty stores.
Head to the Jingdezhen Ceramic History Expo Area, which brings together ancient buildings, ancient workshops, ancient crafts, ancient kilns, and ancient gardens. It is a microcosm of Jingdezhen's ceramic culture and a good choice for travelers like us who don't know much and have limited time.
We went to the ancient kiln, which is also the Jingdezhen Ceramic History Expo Area. It is not small, and the Jingdezhen Ceramic Museum is also in this area. The ancient kiln is roughly composed of the Fenghuo Xianshi Temple, the roundware workshop, the carving workshop, the firewood stack, the kiln room, the town kiln, etc. It shows the unique porcelain customs of Jingdezhen, the ancient industrial building layout and the process of handmade porcelain in Jingdezhen during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Here we can see how the porcelain workers in ancient Jingdezhen produced porcelain.
The craftsmanship of Jingdezhen porcelain making is concentrated in the ancient kiln scenic area, which is very interesting. I understand how a complete porcelain is produced. Those craftsmen are really skilled. Most of the manual workers here are men, but they have dexterous hands and make amazing works. I really admire them.
The gate of the ancient kiln says "Jingdezhen Ceramic History Expo Area". It's such a long name, but it is actually the ancient kiln. When I first started to make the itinerary, I confused the two places. Follow this road and walk in to the ancient kiln. The whole road goes up slowly, with jade trees all the way, as if the ancient kiln is isolated from the world and still remains in its most glorious era. It seems that if you keep walking along the way, you can really find a master of porcelain making.
The entrance to Jingdezhen Museum is very interesting. You have to walk a poetic mountain road first. On both sides of the mountain road are towering pine woods, coupled with the distant depth of field, you walk slowly along the stone slabs under your feet. At this moment, it was drizzling in the sky. The drizzle hit the pine wood, the stone slabs, and the soil, making a subtle sound that made me very intoxicated with this journey.
Jingdezhen is truly a ceramic capital. Everything you see here has ceramic elements.
It was originally a good attraction, but it was not carefully polished. Many attractions in Jiangxi are like this. The expectations were quite high, but it felt very ordinary when I went there. It could be more creative, such as building a maze with porcelain, or pasting a building with porcelain, or pasting a corridor with porcelain. In fact, the purpose of going out to play is to see something unique. As the Porcelain Capital, you show others a few kilns. To put it bluntly, they don't understand it. They just want to see the terrifying amount of porcelain in your Porcelain Capital. There must be something memorable, right? There is nothing here. The programs inside are also perfunctory, with musical instrument performances, just to get by. This is May Day, right? I don't know if it is even more perfunctory on ordinary days. After all, your performance represents the image of Jiangxi.
