Longhushan Scenic Area

I just registered on China-TravelNote just to write travel notes to record the places I have been to. As a native of Yingtan, my first comment is naturally for Longhu Mountain.

I went to Longhushan Village in winter when I was studying, but I never had the chance to go there again. I finally completed the trip to Longhushan during the National Day in 2018. The scenic area is very beautiful and large, which exceeded my expectations.

The Longhu Mountain is a masterpiece of nature, with clear water and red mountains, which is unparalleled in the world.



The Longhushan Scenic Area consists of six major scenic areas and 55 scenic spots, including Xianshuiyan, Longhushan, Shangqing Palace, Hongwu Lake, Mazuyan and Yingtianshan, covering an area of 200 square kilometers; it also includes independent scenic spots (points) such as Yiyang Guifeng, covering an area of 40 square kilometers.



Longhu Mountain, the birthplace of Taoism, is known as the "Three Wonders" of Taoism, including the Taoist holy land, the clear water and red mountain, and the ancient cliff tombs. It has typical Danxia landform features, and the natural landscape mainly unfolds along the banks of the Luxi River, "red peaks surrounded by clear water, dense forests hiding strange rocks, Cangshan hanging waterfalls, and migratory birds reflecting the lake light".



The Longhu Mountain, which is made of red sandstone, has 99 peaks, 24 rocks, and 108 natural and cultural landscapes. The peaks are beautiful and varied. Commonly known as the "Ten Don'ts" by the locals, most of these realistic and "don'ts" landscapes contain their own wonderful legends.

The high-altitude plank road, Elephant Trunk Hill, Mosquito-free Village, Luxi River bamboo rafting, Fairy Rock, coffin-raising performance, Tianshi Mansion, and other must-see attractions in Longhu Mountain Scenic Area. When the Immortal City reopens, adding the Immortal City will be the essence of Longhu Mountain.

Longhu Mountain, formerly known as Yunjin Mountain, is located 20 kilometers southwest of Yingtan City, Jiangxi Province. It is a national key scenic spot, a national 4A-level tourist area, and a national natural and cultural dual heritage site. In the middle of the Eastern Han Dynasty, Zhang Tianshi made elixirs here. "When the elixir was made, dragons and tigers appeared, and the mountain got its name." Longhu Mountain has thus become the birthplace of Taoism in China. The long-standing Taoist culture, the unique green water and red mountains, and the large-scale cliff tombs constitute the "three wonders" of the natural and cultural landscapes of Longhu Mountain Scenic Tourist Area. Longhu Mountain is composed of red sandstone, forming the "Danxia landform" of the red cliffs of Chibi. The clear and beautiful Luxi River flows through the mountain, like a jade belt from south to north, connecting Shangqing Palace, Longhu Mountain, Xianshuiyan and other tourist attractions in one line. The landscape scenery from the bamboo raft down the Luxi River is like a fairyland.

The scenic spot ticket package (attraction ticket, scenic spot bus, bamboo raft) is 230 yuan. Enter the scenic spot at 7:30 am and leave at 4:30 pm. Because it was raining, we first visited Shangqing Palace, Tianshi Mansion, Zhengyi Temple, and took a bamboo raft to watch the hanging coffin performance. Finally, we saw the Elephant Trunk Hill and walked on the high-altitude plank road, and took a bus out of the scenic spot. There was no mountain climbing in the entire scenic area, so it was not very physically demanding.

Longhu Mountain is the number one scenic spot in Yingtan and one of the four famous Taoist mountains in China. You can climb the mountain, ride on bamboo rafts, visit ancient towns and visit Taoist temples.

It's worth a visit, suitable for leisure and relaxing travel. It's not as shady as the rumors on the Internet. The charges are very reasonable. Which scenic spot is cheaper now?

Longhu Mountain in Yingtan, Jiangxi, has a direct bus from Yingtan Station for 3 yuan. You can watch performances, see hanging coffins, and enjoy the beautiful scenery. It is also one of the four famous Taoist mountains. You must go there once.

Today, January 19, 2019, Yingtan Longhu Mountain Jingshan Scenic Area organized a Shengjingshan Cup Mountain Climbing Competition, and we were fortunate to participate. But the strange thing is that after participating in the competition, if you want to go to the scenic area to see the scenery, you still have to pay an entrance fee. It's incredible. No wonder outdoor people say that Yingtan Longhu Mountain is a place where tourists are seriously cheated. This time I learned a lesson. There are seventeen of us this time, and we feel a little cheated. I would like to point out that this mountain climbing run was not run in the scenic area, but was completed on a section of cement road in front of it.

It is a typical example of late Danxia, with rounder and shorter mountains. It is unique to appreciate it from a bamboo raft. In addition, this is also the core birthplace of Chinese Taoism, with rich Taoist cultural relics.

I remember taking a group photo of myself wearing Hanfu at the Shangqing Palace in Longhushan at the end of April. Although I didn’t capture the feeling I wanted, I still posted it here.

I have always wanted to take a set of photos wearing Wei and Jin style Hanfu on Mount Longhu, with wide shirts and large sleeves fluttering, while reciting a phrase "follow the laws of nature" and missing my hometown.

The scenery is unique and it is a famous Taoist mountain. Except for the section from the east gate to the south gate of Elephant Trunk Hill which is a hiking trail, the rest of the attractions do not require too much physical effort. There is also bamboo rafting, which is also suitable for elderly tourists.

Here are some important attractions:

Bathing Fairy Pond - East Gate of Elephant Trunk Hill: There is a 3.5-kilometer aerial plank road with great views, which takes about an hour to walk. If you walk a short distance from the East Gate to Bathing Fairy Pond or South Gate, you can see Elephant Trunk Hill from different angles, which is as lifelike as the Elephant Trunk Hill in Guilin.

Mosquito-free Village: A small village, named because it is located near mountains and rivers but has no mosquitoes.

Taohuazhou: See the hanging coffins and watch the coffin-lifting performance.

Bamboo Raft Wharf - Fairy Rock: Take a bamboo raft to enjoy the scenery on both sides of the Luxi River. There is a group of hanging coffins at Fairy Rock.

Zhengyi Temple: The ancestral temple of the Zhengyi School of Taoism, it is a temple built by the fourth generation Heavenly Master Zhang Sheng to worship the ancestor Heavenly Master Zhang Daoling.

Shangqing Ancient Town: An ancient town with a history of thousands of years. The 2-kilometer-long Shangqing Ancient Street has many attractions such as Changqingfang, Liuhou Ancestral Temple, Tianshi Mansion, Liuhou Mansion, Tianyuande Pharmacy, and the Catholic Church.

Tianshi Mansion: It is the place where the successive Tianshi of Zhengyi Dao lived and worshipped gods.

Da Shangqing Palace: There is a Demon-Subduing Hall. In the Water Margin, it was from here that General Hong released the thirty-six Celestial Stars and seventy-two Disha Stars - which later became the 108 generals.

I went to Longhu Mountain in Jiangxi in March this year. It takes about 3 hours to get to Yingtan by high-speed rail from Shaoxing. Longhu Mountain is the holy land of Zhang Tianshi, the founder of Taoism. The entire scenic area is very large, with strange peaks and steep rocks standing in the river, a typical karst landform. You need to take a bamboo raft to visit the scenic area. Fortunately, there are not many people queuing during the non-peak season. The boatman who paddles the bamboo raft will also give you an explanation, which is charged separately. In fact, it is just describing what the mountains along the way look like, which is not very interesting. The more interesting one is the coffin-raising performance. The staff put a coffin on the boat, and then a nimble man used a rope to lift the coffin into the air and finally put it into the cliff. It is hard to imagine how the ancients put these coffins into these mountain walls in ancient times when technology was not developed.

The scenic spots of Longhu Mountain are: high-altitude plank road, Elephant Trunk Hill, No-Mosquito Village, Rafting Station, Zhengyi Temple, Tianshi Mansion, Shangqing Palace; it is still very tight to visit them in one day. We only visited the high-altitude plank road, Elephant Trunk Hill, No-Mosquito Village, rafting and Tianshi Mansion. We didn't have time to watch Zhengyi Temple, Shangqing Palace and the hanging coffin performance. It took 2 and a half hours to walk the plank road, which was too tiring! Elephant Trunk Hill is at the exit of the high-altitude plank road. If you just want to see Elephant Trunk Hill, it is recommended to go back to the second station. You can take a bamboo raft to drift down the Luxi River, which is the highlight of Longhu Mountain tourism. The boatman will explain the mountains and rivers on both sides along the way, but each boat charges 60 yuan.

One of the four famous mountains in Jiangxi, the Danxia landform and Taoist culture are worth seeing.

You can see the Yuxian Pool from the ticket gate of the high-altitude plank road in the scenic area, with Pai Ya Peak in front and Gui Peak on the right. It is very vivid! You can enter the high-altitude plank road multiple times within the validity period of the ticket.

I climbed the stairs for about ten minutes and reached the high-altitude plank road. The scenery in the distance was beautiful. I could see the Jinqiang Peak and Luxi River, but these were not within the scenic area.

The plank road inside is well built and not very high from the ground, unlike the one in Sanqing Mountain which is built on a thousand-meter cliff. So even if you are afraid of heights, you won't be very scared.

Longhu Mountain can basically be visited in one day, but of course two days is better, so that the physical exertion will be more reasonable, and if you are interested in Taoist culture, you can slowly experience it.

Generally speaking, Longhushan is mainly for seeing Danxia landforms, Taoist culture, Luxi rafting, and you can see the hanging coffin culture that is not available anywhere else.

Longhu Mountain was named after Zhang Daoling, the founder of Taoism in the Eastern Han Dynasty, who built a hut here to make elixirs. When the elixir was made, dragons and tigers appeared, hence the name. There are thousands of peaks and valleys here, and the scenery is naturally amazing. It is also the ancestral home of the Zhengyi School of Taoism. The Taoist priests who draw talismans, chant spells, and exorcise ghosts and demons in Hong Kong movies are from this sect. The real Longhu Mountain is behind the Zhengyi Temple. If you want to visit Longhu Mountain, I personally recommend walking on the plank road and climbing the mountain. The scenery is good and there are few people. The negative oxygen ions are overflowing, which can prolong your life.

I took a day off in Nanchang and signed up for a tour group to Longhu Mountain.

To be honest, Longhu Mountain is really too big, and one day is not enough

The Longhushan Scenic Area is a large concept, which includes a botanical garden (flower language world), hiking cableway, rafting, ancient towns and villages, Taoist temples, geological parks and waterfalls.

Longhu Mountain is a typical Danxia landform in China. It is the birthplace of Taoism in China and joined the World Geopark Network in 2007. The Danxia landform of Longhu Mountain is a Danxia mountain body composed of massive red sandstone and conglomerate of the Late Cretaceous continental foothill flood-alluvial fan developed on the southern edge of the middle section of the Xinjiang Basin in southeastern China. Danxia landform is different from the karst peak forest and peak cluster landforms in Guilin. The rock layer is very hard, so it is usually vertical and the surface vegetation is mostly moss.

Overall, I give it 5 stars. The transportation is convenient. I bought a two-day ticket at the train station and was sent directly to the scenic spot. I went there in the afternoon of the first day. I went to Shangqing Palace, Zhengyi Temple and Wuwen Village. The most impressive thing was the panoramic performance at night. It was very touching. It was no worse than Disney. It exceeded my expectations. It was a pity that the weather was not beautiful and my clothes were wet. I lived at the entrance of the scenic spot. I personally think the price is not expensive. On the second day, I went bamboo rafting, browsed the scenery, and simply caught up with the pavilion. Then the cliff plank road was also good. To say something bad, it is that in Taoist culture, many people use different methods to ask for merit money, which requires everyone to pay attention

I personally think Longhu Mountain is just average. Compared with the 260 yuan ticket, there is still a lot of room for improvement. A Taoist holy place has Taoist priests who cheat people to donate money. The characteristic of the scenic spot is to get promoted and get rich, which is good, but the bamboo raft is not good. I paid for the bamboo raft, but the explanation fee is 10/person, which is not good. As Longhu Mountain, they should promote Longhu Mountain, at least introduce some of their myths occasionally. Another point is that when we left the scenic area at 5:30, all the staff evacuated and stood guard, even the toilets were closed. I am really disappointed with Longhu Mountain! I hope to give you a little hint, and I also hope that the scenery of Longhu Mountain can be simpler. We feel that the Taoist culture still exists.

The rafting in Longhu Mountain is the biggest highlight and must be recommended. The Danxia peaks are lined up along the Luxi River. The boat sails on the blue waves and people swim in the painting.

It feels a bit like Guilin, although I have never been to Guilin. The scenery is still quite beautiful, and there were not many people when I went there, which was good.

The overall feeling is very good. There are both natural scenery and strong Taoist culture, as well as many entertainment performances. There are many places to play in the entire scenic area. It takes at least 2 to 3 days to visit them all. The food, accommodation and entertainment in Xiaoyao City at the foot of the mountain are also very good. It is a very unique place~

This mountain looks like a big piece of steamed cake 😁 with eyes all over it. It is quite comfortable to walk on the plank road.

The ticket price of 260 yuan seems frighteningly expensive at first glance, but it includes bamboo rafting and transportation within the scenic area. Apart from that, there is no other consumption. It is acceptable when you think about it. The scenery is not amazing, but it is not bad. The mountain is not high, and there are almost no steps to climb. The essence of the scenic area should be bamboo rafting, Elephant Trunk Hill and coffin-raising performances. Bamboo rafting is the best part of the entire scenic area. The one-way trip takes about 30 minutes. The boatman will explain along the way, but it costs 10 yuan per person. Elephant Trunk Hill may be the only scenic spot in the scenic area that requires walking on the plank road. The entire plank road is about 3.5 kilometers, most of which is flat and can be completed in one and a half hours. There are four coffin-raising performances every day, which are actually acrobatic performances. It can be said that they are tasteless and a pity to abandon them. Other Taoist-related attractions, such as Tianshi Mansion and Dashangqing Palace, are seriously commercialized. I feel that the Taoists don’t want to practice Taoism, but only want to make money.

17.11 The scenic area includes natural scenery (mountain and water scenery), historical and cultural performances (Shengguan, Cormorant), and religion (Taoism). It is indeed much better than expected before coming. And the public transportation shuttle bus and bamboo raft in the scenic area cover most of the personal walking routes. The shuttle bus runs in a circle, and you have to change buses at Zhengyi Temple to Shangqing. The tickets are indeed a bit expensive. Another drawback is that the waiting time for the shuttle bus is too long.

After 20 years, I revisited the old place. The scenic spot has undergone great development. Since it was rated as a world natural heritage and a world geological park, many villagers have been relocated from the scenic spot and tourism projects have been standardized. As a famous mountain through the ages and a Taoist holy mountain, the combination of natural landscape and Taoist culture complements each other. The Danxia landform is fully developed, the rafting scenery of Luxi River is pleasant, the cliff tombs and hanging coffins are still mysterious, the hanging coffin performances are exciting, and the eternal scenery is indescribable. In the evening, Yang Lan, as the producer of the large-scale live performance "Dreaming of Longhu Mountain", pioneered the marching performance form, integrating the Taoist cultural myths and legends of Longhu Mountain into the beautiful mountains and waters with sound, light and electricity multimedia performances, which is unique.

Sanqing Palace was first built in the Eastern Han Dynasty. It is the main court of the Zhengyi School of Taoism. It has two palaces, twelve halls and twenty-four courtyards. It was the largest view in Jiangnan at that time. It is currently under renovation and maintenance. There is almost no place to take pictures. Because of the fire in the Republic of China and the bombing during the Anti-Japanese War, most of the buildings have been destroyed, and there are not many well-preserved buildings. The Tianshi Mansion where Zhang Tianshi lived is relatively well-preserved and large in scale. It is more worth visiting than Sanqing Palace. Taking a bamboo raft to visit the water Danxia is the essence of Longhu Mountain. Take a bamboo raft to ripple in the clear and green Luxi River, and enjoy the Danxia scenery on both sides of the river leisurely and peacefully. Some are like hidden dragons and crouching tigers, and some are like goddesses descending to the earth. Three points are natural and seven points are imaginative. The end point of the bamboo raft rafting is Fairy Rock. On the right side after landing, there are steps to climb halfway up the mountain to see the hanging coffins on the opposite side. Along the walking path of Fairy Rock, you can reach the Luxi River ferry terminal. Take a boat to the other side just in time to catch up with the ancient Yue people's customs and hanging coffin performances.

It is one of the four famous Taoist mountains, but there are no ancient Taoist buildings and the Taoist cultural atmosphere is not strong. However, as the birthplace of the Zhengyi School, it is interesting to see the clear water and red mountains: Longhu Mountain is also a section of the Wuyi Mountain Range, and its sightseeing style is very similar to Wuyi Mountain, with Danxia landforms, bamboo rafting, ancient hanging coffins and museums. It is a very beautiful place.

The scenic area is not big, 2 days is enough. Although the name is impressive, the essence is far-fetched. It matches the two-day weekend stroll. There are not enough surprises, but there is more leisure. It has everything, which can support the perception of the scenic area, but it is not refined, so the impression is average. It benefits from the comprehensive integration of landscape and humanities, but fails in the lack of finishing touches. Longhushan Scenic Area shows the Danxia landform, which I had a relatively full understanding of when I went to Danxia Mountain in Shaoguan two years ago. Compared with Danxia Mountain Scenic Area, this is simply a "copycat version" of Danxia Mountain, except that the river is wider and the Taoist cultural landscape is added. Others, even the small villages outside the scenic area look similar.

Take a minibus from Yingtan Railway Station to the tourist center. When you get off the bus, you will see a wide square. However, the three words "Longhushan" on the gate are too small and do not match the grandeur of its name.

To buy tickets, the self-service terminal accepts Alipay and WeChat. This time I went out, I basically didn’t use cash.

260 yuan/person, including one bamboo raft or ferry ride, and unlimited transfer bus ride within the scenic area. The ticket allows you to enter the scenic area within 2 days. Tickets must be checked for Elephant Trunk Hill, Zhengyi Temple, Dashangqing Palace, and Tianshi Mansion, and you can enter and exit once. There are no restrictions for other places.

After visiting Longhu Mountain, I was not impressed. Except for the strong impact of the mummies, the rest was a bit ordinary. But the scenic area is designed with mountains, water, culture and performances, which is considered to be done with all efforts. The tickets sold together make the ticket price here seem high, but other expenses are not much. So it is still a good place to spend a weekend.

The architecture of Zhengyi Temple is mainly a modern imitation, and the workmanship and interior furnishings are not sophisticated enough, but located among the unique landscape and mountains and waters of the Danxia landform, its aura and feng shui are still excellent.

Except that the ticket is a bit expensive, the ticket is 260, and the student ticket is 220, it is still worth a visit. I stayed in a house of a nearby resident, Tuguiyao... If I really want to pronounce this name, I am still a little confused~~ The boss is very nice, the room environment is good, it is big, clean and comfortable. The price is a little expensive for meals (for students 😷), the scenery is very good, the wonders of nature, looking at the independent peaks is very shocking, and sitting in the sightseeing car to see the scenery is also a different flavor. I feel that Shangqing Ancient Town is not as powerful as imagined, and there is no special feature. When I went there, I encountered a quarrel... I watched the coffin-raising performance in the afternoon, Shangqing, Tianshi Mansion, Zhengyi Temple, and the ticket can be watched for two days. The next day, I went to the aerial plank road, bamboo rafts, and Elephant Trunk Hill. It was very realistic. Overall, it was good.

Longhushan is a famous Taoist mountain, very beautiful. I like the scenery very much, it is a scenic spot worth visiting!

The mountain is not a mountain, the cliff culture understands the history and studies it

This tourist service center is built in a very grand manner, a bit like an exhibition hall, and is a scenic spot in itself.

At nine o'clock in the morning, many tourists were already queuing up to buy tickets.

The ticket price for Longhu Mountain is 125 yuan, including the sightseeing bus fee. It also follows the process of most 5A scenic spots, picking up and dropping off passengers at each stop. After we got on the bus, we got off at the first stop, the "High Plank Road", and walked around.

From now on, you have to walk. This aerial plank road is in the Elephant Trunk Hill sub-scenic area, leading to the famous "Elephant Trunk Hill", but it is not close enough.

Along the way of the tour, the scenic area management office has set up many popular science signs and installed them in front of special landforms for tourists to learn and appreciate, which also reduces a lot of tiredness and fatigue during hiking.

There are many thousand-year-old vines, vine branches and vine roots in the scenic area. In order to protect these old vines, the staff mostly wrap the old and weak vines with filters to prevent them from breaking.

Although it is called a "high-altitude plank road", it is actually not high at all. Walking on the plank road and overlooking the winding mountain tourist highway, you can see cars upon cars of tourists who are too lazy to walk and are taking buses instead.

The "Elephant Trunk Hill" in the Longhushan Scenic Area in Jiangxi is the most realistic one I have ever seen.

We took a lot of photos in front of the Elephant Trunk Hill and felt that the trip was worthwhile. Then we prepared to go down along the plank road beside the Elephant Trunk Hill.

The Longhushan Scenic Area is very large, and the ticket is valid for two days. After walking through the Elephant Trunk Hill, I was already panting. After leaving this scenic spot, I quickly took a bus to rest for a while and rushed to the next attraction: the coffin-raising performance.

Of course, the video of this performance is still the best, and it is worth watching the show. The audience seats on the other side of the performance are also a gathering place for local vendors to sell food.



These boatmen use bamboo poles to hold cormorants for tourists to watch. I was wondering how they make money by holding cormorants like this. It turns out that they invite tourists to hold bamboo poles and take photos with cormorants. Each time, they charge 10 yuan until you are satisfied with the photo.



If you just quietly hold the bamboo pole, the cormorant will stand very steadily (note its webbed feet) and will not spread its wings to gain balance. Therefore, the boatman turns the bamboo pole from time to time, and the cormorant will not stand steadily, so it will keep flapping its wings, which makes the photo look good.

After the coffin-raising performance, the audience naturally dispersed. It was chilly and windy at the time, and the northerners couldn't stand staying by the water for too long. This time it wasn't tiredness, it was cold! It was still a feeling of escaping. Although I knew that the scenic area was still very large, I still felt that the trip was worthwhile. I took a bus to leave the scenic area, and after getting off the bus, I walked through the artificial "Xiaoyao City" and returned to my own car in the hotel.

Xiaoyao City is a newly built leisure and entertainment place similar to a resort. It is roughly a group of buildings built in imitation of Song Dynasty City and Water Margin stories. At first I didn't take it seriously. When I walked through it, there were some places where I could take pictures.

As a place for leisure and entertainment, there are some snack takeaways and tourist souvenirs. The layout of the entire Xiaoyao City is neat and tidy, the environment is clean and there are not many tourists, so it is more comfortable to visit.

The website said that the gates open from 7 to 7:30, but the ticket sales started at 8 in the morning. Generally speaking, it is quite good and comfortable here. I personally think it is more comfortable than Danxia Mountain, and the magnetic field is much better, although they are both Danxia landforms. No wonder there are Tianshi here.

There are free tour buses at the entrance. You can get off at any scenic spot. The first stop is the plank road. We walked along the plank road and walked there. There are large and small cliff caves everywhere on the cliff. There are wooden sticks in the cliff caves. I didn’t know what it meant at first, but later I realized that there are wooden sticks in the cliff caves of hanging coffins. It turned out to be the characteristic of the scenic spot. You can see the Elephant Trunk Hill at the end of the plank road, but we didn’t climb it. Passing by and taking pictures. Because it was raining, we went bamboo rafting.
