Hushan Great Wall

The Hushan Great Wall was built in the fifth year of the Chenghua Period of the Ming Dynasty. It was supervised by Han Bin, the then deputy commander-in-chief of Liaodong. It is the eastern starting point of the Ming Great Wall.
The building materials are different from other Great Walls. Bricks were not used in construction, and local mud, sand and loess were used instead.
Close to the border, you can climb to the top of the beacon tower to see the daily life of the North Korean people.
The "One Step Across" scenic spot is the narrowest part of the Jiejiang River, only a few meters wide. It is the closest place to North Korea and you can take photos there.

If you have the time and energy, it's best to visit the Hushan Great Wall scenic area. First, it's the easternmost section of the Great Wall (no longer at Shanhaiguan). Second, standing at the top of the Hushan Great Wall offers a truly unobstructed view of the North Korean landscape across the way.

By miba |

Hushan Great Wall is located in the northeast of Dandong City, Liaoning Province, about 20 kilometers from the city center. You can choose to take a taxi or drive to get there.

Opening Hours and Tickets: Hushan Great Wall is open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Tickets are 55 yuan per person in the off-season and 60 yuan per person in the peak season. Tickets must be redeemed after booking online, and there will be a second ticket check before climbing the Great Wall.

Attractions and Activities: Hushan Great Wall, a section of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall, is a key attraction in the Yalu River Scenic Area. From Hushan, you can enjoy stunning views of the Yalu River and downtown Dandong. You can also visit historical sites and exhibitions along the wall to learn about its history and culture. Ascend to the highest point to gaze out over the idyllic scenery of neighboring countries, feeling the closeness of the distance.

Note: When visiting the Hushan Great Wall, please keep the environment clean and tidy, and do not litter or damage public facilities. Also, please pay attention to safety, follow relevant regulations and warning signs, and do not climb or cross safety railings. The entire tour takes about two hours, and some sections are steep, requiring physical support and slow walking. After crossing the mountain, a shuttle bus will take you back to the entrance. You need to purchase a separate ticket, but you can also walk without a ticket, which takes about an hour.

Surrounding facilities: There are restaurants, shops, parking lots, and other facilities around the Hushan Great Wall. The scenic area parking lot charges 10 yuan per visit, and you can park on the roadside without being ticketed by the traffic police. There is a small shop at the exit of the scenic area, selling Chinese, Russian, and Korean goods at reasonable prices.

Best time to visit: All seasons are suitable, but it is best to go on a sunny day so that you can better appreciate the beauty of the Great Wall and the scenery of Dandong city.

Hushan Great Wall, built during the Chenghua period of the Ming Dynasty, is the starting point of the Ming Great Wall. It's not just the Great Wall, but it's also very close to North Korea, so you can reach it in just one step.

The Hushan Great Wall is said to be the Ming Great Wall, but it was demolished by order of Nurhaci after the Qing army entered the pass. The current Great Wall was rebuilt twice in 1992 and 2002, so it looks like there are almost no traces of history.

Climbing the highest beacon tower, you can gaze across to the exotic land of North Korea. A small cluster of neatly arranged bungalows nestled among the fields, with no signs of human activity. Remember to bring binoculars here.

We climbed the Yibukua route, which is recommended for people over 70 years old and the museum route for people under 10 years old. There are several places on the Yibukua route that require the use of hands and feet, which is a bit thrilling, but the scenery is the closest view of North Korea. I also greeted the North Korean women working in the fields, saw North Korean men fishing, old cows plowing the fields, their houses, North Korean soldiers guarding the border, and several North Korean women waving and saying hello to us. It felt great, and we went down the mountain directly to Yibukua. It took a total of three hours, and I sweated a lot. Bring enough water. The ticket is 60, which is a bit expensive, but it is still worth it.

A must-see attraction in Dandong is the eastern starting point of the Great Wall. Although it was built later, it is of great significance as the eastern starting point of the Great Wall. The back mountain of Hushan Great Wall is very steep. Sometimes there is a road, sometimes there is no road, and sometimes you have to crawl through the cracks in the rocks. This is the most dangerous and interesting section I have ever climbed.

Hushan Great Wall is located on the Yalu River, 15 kilometers east of Dandong City. It is a key scenic spot in the national Yalu River Scenic Area. It faces Yuchi Island and the ancient city of Yizhou in North Korea across the river. It is an excellent tourist destination.

By Little Miss Rabbit |

I went to Kuandian and saw it. It was not a weekend or holiday, so there were not many people.

The entrance fee is 60 yuan, and the bus ticket is 10 yuan. I feel that the bus ticket is unnecessary. The ticket seller said that it takes 15 minutes to walk from the ticket office to the entrance, and 40 minutes to walk down the back mountain to buy the ticket. It turned out to be only a 5-minute walk. I went in and turned and the entrance was not far away.

Being young and strong, I reached the summit in 20 minutes. The stairs at the back were quite steep, but not too many steps, so it was okay. The view from the top was pretty good, with a view of North Korea.

We chose the plank road for our descent. There's a one-step walk on one side, and an easier option on the other side, which might also have stairs. Elderly or inconvenient people should take the easier route. There are basically no stairs on this side of the plank road, just a lot of rocks, making it a bit more challenging to get down. But the steeper sections of the descent here are what made the entrance fee worth it. The one-step walk at the bottom of the mountain is 3.4 meters from North Korea, so it's not something you can easily cross in one step.

By BowenBowen |

I feel that the ticket price of 60 yuan is a bit expensive. If you have already planned your trip, you can buy the ticket online at least two hours in advance and save 5 yuan.

The Great Wall looks relatively new. The North Korean scenery I saw from the top of the wall was mostly farmland with few people.

The climb up the Great Wall is quite demanding, and the descent is extremely steep, so those with weak legs should proceed at their own pace. If you are not strong enough to take a single step, I recommend entering the wall from the ground level, as following the signs at the end of the wall will take quite a while, and many parts of the way are essentially rock climbing.

The strawberries nearby are very cheap and sweet :)

By Lightning Blue |

The tour guide said this section of the Great Wall is the beginning of the entire Great Wall

By Just call Ajie |

😂 I finished the walk in 25 minutes. The slope is steep, and some sections may reach 80 degrees. It is not very safe, so the elderly should pay attention to safety.

By johannes |

Now we've reached both the western and eastern ends of the Ming Great Wall. From the summit, you can clearly see the vast fields of North Korea. The descent is quite steep, so those with weak legs should be careful. The newly built gate is not open, so it's a 2-3 kilometer walk to the original gate.

By Zhao Xiaoben |

The Great Wall is very high, and it was good at the beginning, but then it was basically a 90-degree climb and down.

By starry |

You can go shopping along the way. There are also many man-made traces.

By tsavo |

Hushan Great Wall is said to be the easternmost section of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall, but the current wall is a later addition and doesn't resemble the original. It's very close to North Korea on the other side, and if you're lucky, you can even see Korean farmers working. It's not expensive to get here by minibus from the train station, but you do need to buy a separate ticket.

By ~ |

The Great Wall rebuilt on the original site is in a remote location. The ticket sellers in the scenic area are of low quality and have a bad attitude. There is also maintenance going on in the scenic area. The experience is very bad. I don't recommend coming here.

By Spring and Autumn |

Construction began in 1469, primarily to defend against incursions by the Jianzhou Jurchens. Archaeological excavations in the 1990s uncovered the walls and foundations at Hushan, confirming it as the eastern starting point of the Great Wall. Restoration began in 1992. I personally feel the restoration has been overdone, with very little of the original foundation and walls visible.

By baylor |

Besides marking the easternmost point of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall, this attraction offers a close-up glimpse into the Sino-North Korean border. Many areas within the scenic area are separated from North Korean territory by a narrow ditch less than ten meters across. The wall itself is similar to other Ming Dynasty Great Walls. From the entrance, the climb continues straight up, though many sections are quite steep, requiring both hands and feet. The beacon tower at the highest point of the Hushan Great Wall is accessible, but the passage is extremely narrow, making it nearly impossible for heavier individuals to pass through. From the tower's summit, one can gaze southward. The small ditch in the foreground marks the Sino-North Korean border, while the main channel of the Yalu River stretches beyond. The golden rice fields in the middle represent North Korea's Yuchi Island.

Dandong, this is the easternmost end of the Great Wall built in the Ming Dynasty, called Hushan Great Wall; from the highest beacon tower, you can see Korean farmers working and fully armed Korean People's Army patrols and various sentries

By Xiao Liba |

It's close to the city and I finished the tour in one morning. I can see the North Korean countryside when I climbed to the top.

Tickets are 60, no need to go in, just wait at the door

Hushan, with its beautiful scenery, was once one of the eight famous scenic spots in Andong. It boasts 28 scenic spots, including the Great Wall, the Sleeping Buddha, and the Tiger's Mouth Cliff, making it a perfect tourist destination on the outskirts of Dandong. When we visited, we heard that the Hushan Great Wall was a fake, so we didn't go.

By way |

A section of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall. The climb was just right, and my seven-year-old son could handle it perfectly. After climbing the wall, the plank road on the back hill, built along the rock face, only added to the fun. After winding down, you'll reach the "One Step" section. Of course, if you take that step, you'll be arrested...

It is very close to Dandong city and a good place for a short trip.

By China-TravelNote users |

Tickets to Dandong's major scenic spots: Phoenix Mountain, Hekou, Hushan, Dalishu, and Wulong Mountain!

By The wind blows and the clouds clear |

The Great Wall has been artificially renovated. There's a 10-yuan electric cart from the main gate to the inside, but I recommend using it for the exit. The final climb to the top is the steepest, with an 80-degree slope. Holding onto the handrails, you'll climb sideways. Looking across at North Korea, you'll see vast expanses of farmland and guard posts.

By Hey, Shen Wei 13806176915 |

The transportation is very reasonable and the price is not expensive!

By Let go |

The newly built Guankou Great Wall on the old site is arguably the easternmost point of the Great Wall, but whether it is part of the Qin-Ming Great Wall remains unknown (after the Qing Dynasty, the forces it blocked had already conquered the Central Plains, and its significance became merely symbolic). From a purely architectural perspective, it's quite impressive, and the "one step across" concept is quite hype. Look at the people on the other side of the barbed wire and cherish your present life.

By hou562000 |

It was raining today so I couldn't go up. It looked nice.

By Don't move. |

The Great Wall is a bit challenging to climb. There are some very narrow sections. We played as we climbed, and it took us about 3-4 hours. From the Hushan Great Wall, you can also see North Korea at any time. The densely packed red houses on the left are China. The large flat land on the right is North Korea.

By Lyon |

Children who like horses can go horseback riding when they first enter, and there are also cute alpacas. When climbing the Great Wall, adults have to watch over the children because the steps are a bit shaky, so please pay attention to safety. The scenery is pretty good.

By Xiao Yue |

Don't buy the sightseeing bus ticket when you visit Hushan Great Wall! Absolutely not! Because it was raining, and the three of us weren't very interested in hiking, we thought the sightseeing bus would take us directly to the top of the Great Wall. They said the bus would stop at a station and we could ride anywhere in the park, so we bought it for ten yuan a ticket! Who knew! The bus took less than a minute to get in! Then it split into two paths, one was the One Step Span, and the other was the Great Wall. The One Step Span was only a five-minute walk away. You can't drive to the Great Wall by bus, you have to climb it yourself.

It makes sense not to let you take the sightseeing bus! On the way from the entrance of the scenic area to the intersection of the Great Wall and Yibukua, there is a large garden and a field of rapeseed flowers.

There are not only rape flowers, but also small yellow flowers, which are also very beautiful. On the road from the intersection to Yibujie, there are many small vendors selling various dried fruits, souvenirs, etc. The more interesting ones are the live shrimps and crabs on the skewer. They are directly coated with batter and fried in the pan. It looks very appetizing!

From the first step, we headed towards the Great Wall. After reaching a gate tower, the main road opened to the right, and to the left was a small, uninhabited tower. The Great Wall was quite impressive, but it couldn't even be considered renovated; it was essentially a later addition. At the middle of the wall, past Platform XX, there was a narrow staircase leading up to a platform, nothing special. Getting up was a struggle, and coming down was even harder! According to those who had climbed it, the path up was difficult, with no footholds, and the only support was the railings. Fortunately, I didn't go up.

By A Ni 520 |

It is said that it takes one to two hours to walk the entire Great Wall. Due to time constraints and physical strength, we only walked about 100 meters after climbing the Great Wall.

The tower of the Hushan Great Wall. The Great Wall we see was built on the original site in 1992. It has many landscapes including the tower, the Great Wall, the ancient plank road, and the Sleeping Guanyin.

By Sugar sugar sugar |

The ticket to the Great Wall is 60 yuan, and the eco-friendly car (not eco-friendly) is 10 yuan. The car is a rip-off, a big rip-off. It said that you can ride it anywhere in the scenic area, so I bought it decisively. In the end, it only takes less than 30 seconds from the scenic area gate to the Great Wall gate, through a large field of rapeseed flowers. I strongly do not recommend buying it. Whether you have a stroller or a wheelchair, it's a cement road and it may take only ten minutes to walk.

There are two roads at the entrance of the Great Wall. One is to go up the Great Wall and up the mountain, and the other is to cross the Sino-North Korean border.

The beacon tower on the mountain is so high

My wife climbed the steep stairs to the enemy tower, and it was even harder to come down.

At the quarter point of the Hushan Great Wall, there is a small speaker that keeps playing a message in a loop. You have reached the quarter point of the Hushan Great Wall. The road ahead is very difficult, and you can't go back. If you can't do it, don't go. It will take about two hours to get down the mountain.

My companion said that the top was too dangerous and boring, and it took him about 40 minutes to get down.

By Chris |

The entrance fee is 60 yuan per person, plus 10 yuan for the scenic area's electric car, for a maximum of 70 yuan per person. There are no other fees. Seniors enjoy discounts of half or full price depending on their age. Climbing to the summit offers a panoramic view of North Korea, with its vast plains, said to be the source of its high-quality grain. The Great Wall, rebuilt by later generations, still inspires awe at the ancients' wisdom and diligence. Climbing the Great Wall offers a broader purpose.

It takes at most two hours to visit the Hushan Great Wall Scenic Area. There is a bus back to the city at the entrance.

By Xiao Bing 88 |

The road from Dandong city to Hekou passes the Hushan Great Wall, marking the starting point of the newly designated easternmost section of the Great Wall. The most distinctive section, "One Step Across," is the closest to North Korea, marked by guardrails and border guards.

By cheshire cat |

This was my first trip to the Great Wall. It was rebuilt on the original site, so it was worth the trip. The directions to the "One Step Crossing" section at the end were unclear and easy to miss.

By Tatakai |

It's off-season now, and the entrance fee is 55 yuan per person. Driving in, we immediately arrived at a large, empty parking lot. Then, my friend and I climbed the towers. Up and down, left and right, up and down. Climbing the Great Wall is quite interesting. After a certain number of steps, you'll find the watchtowers, each numbered.

There is a set of stairs built on the mountain, which is very steep and the more you climb, the more tired you will be. The highest point at the top is the watchtower on the top of the mountain, from which you can see North Korea across the river. You can use high-powered binoculars, which cost 10 yuan each.

By Flash Dog |

The Hushan Scenic Area, located northeast of Dandong City, Liaoning Province, faces Tongjun Pavilion across the river, one of the "Eight Scenic Spots of Korea." The area boasts renowned attractions, including the Hushan Great Wall, the eastern starting point of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall, the "One Step Across" crossing the Sino-Korean border, and the remains of an ancient plank road. The scenic area is themed around ancient military culture, with special features including Sino-Korean border tourism and revolutionary tourism.

It is recommended to take the direct bus to Hushan Great Wall directly from the bus stop at the exit of Dandong Station. The journey takes 40 minutes and the fare is 5 yuan, which is much better than taking the bus from the bus station. On the way back, wait for the bus directly opposite the entrance of the scenic area.

The most interesting thing in the scenic area is not the renovated Ming Great Wall but the ancient plank road. Hikers with physical strength must walk along it. The scenery along the way is very good, and it is much closer than looking at Yuchi Island from the beacon tower. Please note that the plank road is one-way and you must go down from Beacon Tower No. 2. There are also several sections that are difficult to walk on, so don't try it easily with children. Finally, I would like to remind hikers who want to walk on the plank road not to buy shuttle tickets, it is a waste.

By Still today |

It is quite close to the city. There are fewer people in winter. It feels really good to climb the mountain here. It is opposite the North Korean border.

By Biaobiao |

Hushan Great Wall, with its picturesque scenery, clear waters, pleasant climate, and breathtaking landscape, stands like a pearl on the banks of the Yalu River. From its summit, visitors can admire the scenery of both China and North Korea, as well as the natural landscape of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea across the river. As a relic of this historic site, some of its magnificent structures remain, making it a worthwhile visit.

By MicroClelo |

Hushan was originally named Maershan, also known as Hu'er Mountain because of its two towering peaks, which resemble two upright tiger ears. It evolved into the Hushan Mountain of today during the Qing Dynasty. Hushan rises prominently from the Yalu River, solitary on the plain, offering a panoramic view of the fields and houses of Korea on the opposite bank. As the national gateway, the Great Wall's location on Hushan was clearly of military significance. Whenever Dandong was invaded by foreign enemies, Hushan bore the brunt of the attack and was always considered a military fortress, the first to be attacked. Anyone knowledgeable in military affairs knows that occupying the commanding heights means controlling the initiative in battle. Building the Great Wall at Hushan was a natural choice. The wise Chinese ancestors, entrusted with the task of defending their country, felt compelled to choose Hushan as a protective barrier, driven by responsibility, obligation, and even their own lives. While ascending the Hushan Fortress, Wang Zhihao, the Ming Dynasty's Chief Censor, composed the poem "Viewing Korea from Maershan."

Hushan Scenic Area, located approximately 12 kilometers northeast of Dandong City, Liaoning Province, is the core area of the Yalu River National Scenic Area, a national AAAA-level scenic spot, and a key national cultural relic protection site. It faces Tongjun Pavilion, one of the "Eight Scenic Spots of Korea," across the river. The scenic area boasts renowned attractions, including Hushan Great Wall, the eastern starting point of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall, the "One Step Across" Sino-Korean border crossing, Sleeping Guanyin, the Great Wall History Museum, and the remains of an ancient plank road. The scenic area is themed around ancient military culture, with special features including Sino-Korean border travel and Red Tourism.

To go to Hushan Great Wall, you can take a long-distance bus to Kuandian from Dandong Bus Station (get off at Hushantou Station, which is right at the entrance of Hushan Great Wall). To return to the city, you can wait for the bus across the road. The driver said that there is a bus every 30 minutes or so.

The scenery of the Hushan Great Wall is nice, and you can have a bird's eye view of North Korea, but it is indeed a newly built Great Wall on the original site. I met four Americans at the Great Wall. One of them taught English in Shenyang, and three friends came to visit her. Due to limited time, they could only come to Hushan to see the Great Wall. I suggested that they go to Beijing to see the Great Wall next time, haha.

It's also worth noting that the route to the Hushan Great Wall is to climb up the mountain from the entrance, then descend, then circle back to the entrance. On the way down, you'll come to a fork in the mountain. The signs aren't very clear, but the left path leads to the Yibukua Scenic Area, while the right path leads to another former entrance (which appears to be abandoned, with a sign saying "No Visitors Allowed, One Way Only"). It's unknown how far away it is from the original entrance.

Hushan Great Wall is the core scenic spot of Yalu River National Scenic Area. It's a pity that the current Hushan Great Wall is newly built and is no longer a historical site. Hushan Great Wall is said to be the eastern starting point of the Ming Great Wall. These are all said by experts. Hushan is still worth a visit as a park, but the ticket price of 60 yuan is a bit expensive. You can walk on the Hushan plank road. North Korea is on the other side. The farmland scenery is still good. The one-step stone monument in the park is also a must-see place for tourists. In short, the geographical location has special significance. You can visit it if you have time.

By Wi-Fi search in progress |

I initially thought the Hushan Great Wall looked like other Great Wall sites, built in a remote, mountainous area, without much character. Only after arriving at the scenic area did I realize its treacherous terrain and unique scenery. It rained the day I visited, making the mountain path slippery and especially important to be careful with your footing. Across from Hushan lies the North Korean countryside, offering a beautiful autumn scene.

I went early in the morning, so there were very few people. A taxi from the Broken Bridge to here cost about 38 yuan. Tickets bought online in advance for 50 yuan each were 10 yuan cheaper than at the counter. Seniors over 60 get a 50% discount. The shuttle bus was a rip-off; the 15-minute journey was unnecessary. The scenery was beautiful, and I saw men farming and women weaving on the other side of the Korean Strait. The last section up to the beacon tower and the one-step step down the mountain were a bit treacherous, but even a 65-year-old man and woman persevered. The view near the one-step step was beautiful, and I could see Koreans on the other side. Beyond the one-step step, all I could see was farmland.

By The Mountain is Silent |

Hushan Great Wall is the eastern starting point of the Ming Great Wall, located on the banks of the Yalu River and across the Ai River from North Korea. The restored Ming Great Wall follows the terrain of the mountain and winds northward, just a stone's throw from downtown Dandong, facing the Democratic People's Republic of Korea across the river.

By *Chengnuo* |

The scenery was pretty good, and as we like hiking, we didn’t feel tired even though we had just climbed Phoenix Mountain the day before.

By Little Camel (Silly Nainai) |

It seems to be a landmark attraction, the eastern starting point of the Ming Great Wall. You can use a telescope to see North Korea. It is not far from the city and is closer to the pier. You can go to the pier to take a boat to stroll around North Korea. The most fun here is that wild road, but the staff will recommend that it is best not to go. We think it is quite fun and it is an unexpected surprise.

By Baili Creek |

Construction on the Hushan Great Wall began in the fifth year of the Chenghua reign of the Ming Dynasty and marks the eastern starting point of the Ming Great Wall. Besides the eastern starting point (Platform No. 1), the highlight is the close-up view of North Korea from just a few meters away at the "One Step" crossing. Tickets are 60 yuan per person during peak season (April to October) (55 yuan per person if purchased online), and 10 yuan per person for the Great Wall Museum within the scenic area. Electric cars (10 yuan per person round trip) are not necessary for the short distance (staff strongly recommend them). Transportation: 1. Take the "Dandong Station - Hushan Great Wall" tourist bus from the bus station in the northwest corner of Dandong Station Square (5 yuan/person, about 40 minutes, after adjustment in May 2017, departures from the station: 6:50, 7:30, 8:35, 9:50, 10:50, 12:00, 14:20, 16:30; departures from Hushan Great Wall: 7:30, 8:20, 9:30, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 15:20, 17:10); 2. Take the Dandong-Kuandian bus from the bus station and get off at Hushan Great Wall; 3. Take a taxi (25-30 yuan, drivers usually try to recommend other attractions and boat tours). Hushan is not high in altitude (the No. 3 enemy tower is 146.3 meters high), but the walls on both sides of the highest point are steep and not suitable for the elderly and children. The cliff trestle from the No. 1 pier of the Great Wall to the Yibuqiao scenic spot is mostly primitive rocky slopes and is very difficult to walk on.

There are many black guides outside the scenic area, saying that they will take you to the Great Wall for 50 yuan, but in fact the ticket to Hushan Great Wall is only 60 yuan. Looking down from the beacon tower, the mountains, rivers and fields in the distance are very beautiful.

By Memories of classmates |

I went to Dandong for fun. The scenery here is average, but you can see the fields of neighboring countries, which is a unique feeling. I heard that the best time is during the autumn harvest.

Reminders

1. Special statement: Don't trust the North Korea Open Day when you take a taxi. Take a boat to see some worthless scenery. Not to mention other things, the boat ticket of 140 per person is a big rip-off.

2. When you buy a ticket for Hushan Great Wall, she will ask you to pay for the shuttle bus. Don't pay it. You say you only want the ticket because the gate is only a few hundred meters away from the scenic area and you can see everything. It's not a lot of money, but I feel cheated and feel uncomfortable.

Great place, the starting point of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall.

There are just too many people.

By Le Yapai |

It is located in Dandong City, not far from the city center. It takes about 20 yuan by taxi. It is just like climbing the Great Wall. The scenic area is not big and the entrance fee is a bit expensive.

By Spirited Away |

The Hushan Great Wall is located just along the coastal highway, known as its starting point. The section of the wall inside is undoubtedly incomparable to Badaling and other sections, as it was built after 1992, so the historical traces are less apparent. Its unique feature is its proximity to North Korea, making it ideal for visiting during sowing or harvest seasons to witness large numbers of North Koreans working in the fields. Harvest season is also ideal, as Dandong's local fruits are harvested, including peaches, hazelnuts, mountain apricots, apples, and pears, which are all ripe for picking! Simply walk along the Great Wall without backtracking, passing plank roads and cable bridges. The total walk takes about two hours! The street price is 60 yuan, with scalpers offering 50 or 55 yuan. Snacks are also available at the entrance, offering reasonable prices. You can also try a river cruise on the North Korean river, but a speedboat is best, as it allows for close encounters with North Koreans and, if you're lucky, even bartering with them. While they don't have much valuables, it's still a wonderful experience! The butterflies near Hushan are incredibly colorful and beautiful, making them a must-see! It's best to drive yourself. Return buses are scarce, so you can share a ride to Dandong Bus Station for 10 yuan per person (negotiable). If you're looking for historical sites, this isn't the best place to go. However, if you want to see North Korea up close, relax, or hike, it's a good option.

As the starting point of the Great Wall, Hushan Great Wall has a certain symbolic significance.

This place is not big. If you enter from the main gate and don’t take the wild road to reach Yibukua, it will take you 2 hours.

One step forward is a bit of a vain title.

Climbing the Tiger Mountain Great Wall offers a close-up view of North Korea, though all you can see are vast expanses of farmland and a few small villages. You can charter a boat along the boundary river below the Great Wall, and on the other side, you can see North Korean fortresses. We had a rather dangerous encounter with a North Korean soldier, who demanded the boatman pull the boat to the North Korean shore. Then, the soldier emerged from a hidden fortress and approached the Chinese inside the boat, asking for small money and indicating that photography was forbidden. We gave him 20 RMB and half a pack of cigarettes, and he simply said "thank you" and left.

The Hushan Great Wall looks spectacular and is worth a visit, but one piece of advice is to bring enough water before climbing the Great Wall.

If you haven't been to the Great Wall, you're not a true man. Although the Hushan Great Wall is not as majestic as the Great Wall of China in Beijing, it's still pretty good. I climbed it with my 7-year-old child. He insisted on climbing it and finished it. I think it's good. The only problem is that there are too many people recommending taking a boat to North Korea. I really hate it. Looking at North Korea from a distance, it feels closer.

The Hushan Great Wall is worth a visit, and the surrounding farmhouses offer delicious food. The Dandong Tourism Bureau's official website now offers discounted online ticket purchases, making them even cheaper than buying tickets at the scenic area. A ticket originally priced at 60 yuan can be had for 51 yuan. Saving money is always a good idea when traveling. For independent travel, buying tickets online is still quite affordable.

On September 4, 2015, I went to the Hushan Great Wall in Dandong with a tour group. The environment around the Great Wall is beautiful. You can see the Sino-North Korean border when you climb up the Great Wall. There is a very dangerous path on the back side of the mountain after going down. Finally, you walk across an iron chain bridge to reach the Yibukudifang.

Hushan is about 20 kilometers away from Dandong city. Because it looks like two upright tiger ears, it is also called Hu'er Mountain. The main peak has an altitude of only 146.3 meters, but because the surrounding terrain is flat, the solitary mountain looks steep and tall.

Located at the southern foot of Hushan Mountain, the Hushan Great Wall, known in ancient times as the Old Border Wall, was built in 1469, the fifth year of the Chenghua reign of Emperor Xianzong of the Ming Dynasty, to defend against invasions by the rising Later Jin and foreign enemies from the sea. At the end of the Ming Dynasty, Hushan fell under Manchu control, and the wall, serving as a military fortress against the Manchus, was destroyed. After the Qing Dynasty entered the Central Plains, it remained abandoned for a long time. The current Hushan Great Wall was restored on the site of the Ming Great Wall according to the "Hushan Great Wall Restoration Design Plan" approved in 1992. Bangshantai, located on the riverbank, marks the eastern starting point of the Great Wall. Standing at the Fenghuotai at the easternmost end, one can gaze out over the vast expanse of the river, winding like a ribbon across the sky, fertile plains, and crisscrossing fields. On the other side, the Korean islands of Yuchi Island and Uiju Fortress are clearly visible.

After the snow, the mountains are covered in lush greenery, and few people venture out. Fishing alone in the cold river snow is a delightful experience! (The main entrance to the scenic area is closed, but you can walk to the old gate a short distance away to enter. The entire journey takes about an hour and a half.)

By Elegant-World |

Unlike other Great Walls, this one is both beautiful and precipitous. It's not suitable for those who are too old or have leg problems. From the top, the view of the Yalu River and North Korean farmland is breathtaking.

By Blue Soul |

It's a man-made attraction, but the last section of the Great Wall is particularly steep and quite unique. The scenic area should strengthen management and increase shuttle buses to and from the area.

2015.10.12 The Great Wall is not very big. It's easier to get up than to get down. The way up is the Great Wall Trail, and the way down is a path carved along the cliffside. It's quite enjoyable, and you can see the scenery of North Korea across the way. You usually enter through the North Gate. If you take the fork in the road and walk along the cliffside on the left, you can still exit through the North Gate. If you find it tiring and dangerous, you can continue along the steps on the right side of the fork in the road and exit through the South Gate. There seems to be an electric car from there that takes you to the North Gate, and it costs about 5 to 10 yuan per person.

By Rice |

The ticket is 60 yuan, which is not worth it. Badaling is not this price. However, the feature here should not be the Great Wall. The Great Wall is not very long. The most important thing is that it is close to North Korea and there are attractions such as Yibuqiao.

By Walking old boy |

Public transportation is quite convenient, the scenery is pretty good, and it is a perfect combination of natural scenery and cultural scenery!

Not far from Dandong City along the Yalu River, you will encounter the Hushan Great Wall. There are many tourists here. This is one of the starting points of the Great Wall. There is also the famous "One Step Over" in the scenic area. It is only a small river away from North Korea.

By Helan Tinghan |

As the starting point of the eastern end of the Ming Great Wall, it faces North Korea across the Yalu River and has important strategic significance.

By Mr. Li Xiansen |

If you haven't been to the Great Wall, you are not a true man! Climbing up is not very tiring!

Hushan Great Wall is located at the beginning of the Liaoning Coastal Highway, fifteen kilometers from Dandong City, making it very close to the city center. It's a popular stop for travelers passing through Dandong or returning to Dalian from Dandong. From Dandong, it's a quick drive along the Yalu River. There's a large square in front of the Hushan Great Wall, marking the beginning of the Coastal Highway. Tickets to the Hushan Great Wall are 80 yuan, but scalpers can buy tickets for just 60 yuan. Previously, this area was just a small hill called Hushan. In recent years, a modern concrete wall has been built on the site, euphemistically named the Hushan Great Wall and claiming it as the starting point.

By Aesthetic |

It's not magnificent, but it's definitely beautiful.

By Jade in Stone |

Hushan Great Wall marks the eastern starting point of the Great Wall, stretching over 500 meters and rising about 200 meters above sea level. Its beacon towers stand tall, defending against North Korea. A short step up the mountain leads to North Korea. Hushan resembles a crouching tiger, but unfortunately, quarrying destroyed its ridges in the 1980s. Tickets are 60 yuan in the off-season and 80 yuan in the high season, though scalpers can offer savings (though this is unsafe). Surrounded by cornfields, the scenery is unremarkable, reflecting the poverty of North Korea. However, the area is rich in historical heritage, offering a glimpse into China's military might during the early Ming Dynasty.
