[Kunlun Pass] 4767 meters above sea level, for most travelers, it is the first hurdle to challenge "altitude sickness"

It's already 2pm when we got here

Kunlun Mountain, also known as Kunlunxu, China's No. 1 Sacred Mountain, the Mountain of All Ancestors

Kunlun Mountain, due to its towering height, became a natural barrier between ancient China and the west.

The ancient Chinese believed that it was the edge of the world. In addition, the Kunlun Mountains were covered with snow all year round, so the ancient Chinese used white to symbolize the West.

The ancients revered Kunlun Mountain as "the ancestor of all mountains", "the ancestor of dragon veins" and "Dragon Mountain". Many immortals attained enlightenment here.

Hoh Xil, no tickets required

The Sancha River Bridge, Yuzhu Peak Observation Deck, and Kunlun Pass along the way are all excellent viewing spots, where you can capture the unique desolation and loneliness of the Tibetan area. As for the Tibetan antelope, it depends on luck. We only saw one from a distance at the Hoh Xil Observation Deck, which was worth the trip.

It takes about 8-10 hours to travel from Golmud to Hoh Xil without traffic jams. However, the Qinghai-Tibet Highway is a one-way road and is the main road to Tibet. There are many large vehicles, so the road surface is bumpy and road repairs are the norm. When road repairs are carried out, there will be a long queue of ten miles. Please be prepared and leave enough time.

In addition, altitude sickness is also real, especially when stuck in traffic and experiencing altitude sickness at the same time, which makes the situation even worse. Many people vomit until they are dizzy.

It was noon when we arrived at Kunlun Pass, which is the only way from Qinghai and Gansu provinces to Tibet, and is also a major pass on the Qinghai-Tibet Highway.

By GAGA |

At the Kunlun Pass, there is a group sculpture of Tibetan antelopes with the words "Hoh Xil Nature Reserve" written on it, telling everyone that we have arrived at Hoh Xil.

Next to the group of sculptures is the monument to the martyr Sonam Dargye. People who are familiar with the Hoh Xil know him. In July 1992, Sonam Dargye organized China's first armed anti-poaching team. He has always been actively carrying out ecological conservation work in the Hoh Xil area to protect Tibetan antelopes. On January 18, 1994, Sonam Dargye died in a fight with poachers, protecting the Hoh Xil with his life.

Kunlun Pass is located in the middle section of Kunlun Mountains, south of Golmud city. It is the only way to go from Qinghai to Tibet.

We took the Qinghai-Tibet Highway on our return trip. After passing the Kunlun Pass, we were out of the Hoh Xil Nature Reserve and into the city of Golmud. The altitude also dropped from more than 4,000 meters to less than 3,000 meters. From then on, we no longer had to worry about altitude sickness, accommodation, food, and other issues.

The fleet of large trucks and snow-capped mountains are the true portrayal of National Highway 109.

By Oh, not bad. |

On the way to Hoh Xil, you have to pass through Kunlun Pass.

By Wukong |

The towering Kunlun Mountains and the vast land, unless you visit them in person you will never understand why Kunlun Mountain is the ancestor of all mountains.

By Chrissy |

Because it was snowing ahead, we were stuck in traffic from 2pm to 10pm, with only the snow-capped mountains to keep us company.

By Blue Lotus |

There is also a sign of the Hoh Xil Nature Reserve at the Kunlun Pass. China's first sacred mountain is here, the ancestor of all mountains. The Kunlun Mountains in the south are desolate and vicissitudes of life, while the Kunlun Mountains in the north are covered with snow. I actually saw the Kunlun Mountain Mineral Water Factory. Kunlun mineral water is transported from here. No wonder the water is so expensive. There is a reason for it. This is the evidence.

It was a cloudy day, with snow and fog, which cast a veil over the towering Kunlun Mountains, making them even more mysterious. Kunlun Mountains are really different from other mountains. The entire mountain has a strange shape and stretches for thousands of miles. There is no grass on the mountain, and there are countless gullies, which look thick and majestic.

By Want Want |

When the car passes through the Kunlun Pass, the surrounding scenery is amazing, as if the car is driving in a painting.

By Feng Xiaohui |

There are not many mountains worth seeing on the Qinghai-Tibet line, because the mountains are high, they do not look tall. But this is the ancestor of all mountains. Before the Han Dynasty, this was the end of the Chinese nation's world.

The Qinghai-Tibet Highway is 923 kilometers long with an average altitude of 4,500 meters.

Climb over four mountains: Kunlun Mountains, Fenghuoshan Mountains, Tanggula Mountains, Nyainqentanglha Mountains

Crossing three major rivers: Tongtian River, Tuotuo River, and Chumar River

The Qinghai-Tibet Highway is the best road among all the roads into Tibet.

Although there is no such beautiful scenery as the Sichuan-Tibet line, the magnificent scenery of snow-capped mountains and winding paths along the way

But there are still many people who like the Qinghai-Tibet Line, a unique way to Tibet.

Kunlun Pass is a must-go road on the Qinghai-Tibet Highway. Both large and small vehicles will pass through here. The ancestor of all mountains, the towering Kunlun, is still worth a visit.

By master |

The Kunlun Pass is much lower than the Tanggula Pass, and the wind is not that strong. When we arrived, there was no one there, because we left relatively early.

By Sherlock Holmes |

Passing the Kunlun Pass, the snow-capped peaks are all around us, which is really stunning. The snow-capped peaks in June are particularly fresh.

The air also became cold due to the altitude, so I put on a thick down jacket. I didn't stay at the Kunlun Pass for a long time, firstly because I was afraid of altitude sickness caused by the sudden height, and secondly because it was really cold.

The road is slippery, please be careful. There are a lot of large trucks on the Qinghai-Tibet line! Be sure to pay attention!

(There is a restroom at the rest area at the mountain pass, but the conditions of every toilet in the mountain pass are very bad, so be prepared.)

By Li Jie |

Golmud---Kunlun Mountains (163 kilometers away, about 3.5 hours' drive). This section of road is very difficult to drive on. There are large cargo trailers entering Tibet along the way. Many roads have been damaged. Many trucks drive very fast, and it is not easy to overtake on a two-lane road. You must not be distracted when driving on this road. You must ensure that you are in good driving condition before driving. You must pay attention to safety. Kunlun Mountains are very majestic and towering.

By Lin Ying |

The Kunlun Pass is 4,769 meters above sea level. My companions said earnestly: Don't jump, don't run. You will feel a little uncomfortable at the beginning, and your breathing will be a little shallow and fast... I walked slowly on the stairs, where there stands the portrait and monument of the Tibetan good man Sonam Dargye, and behind them are prayer flags set up by people who pray for him.

By Zheng Zizai |

It must be a very cool thing to take a photo with the monument of Kekexili Nature Reserve, and you can get a lot of likes in the circle of friends!!!

Ladies can dress up to look ethereal or dressed up like men. Men can go unshaved for two or three days in advance, wear appropriate clothes and a greasy scarf, and they will surely attract applause from people who have never been here. In fact, this is just an ordinary mountain pass on the Qinghai-Tibet Highway.

Of course, it is necessary to stop, check in and pay tribute to the martyr Sonam Jeda.

By Christina |

Because there were no street lights on the entire mountain and there was snow on the road, we drove very carefully, but we could still feel the majesty of the mountain. Because there was no good place to stay between Nagqu and Golmud, we could only drive north. This was the first time we drove at night on the entire trip, and it was also the most tiring and exhausting one. At night, it is recommended that you choose to follow the car with local license plates. The drivers are generally more familiar with the road conditions, and there are many bends and twists along the way, so you need to pay attention to turning and passing cars.

I was passing through Golmud on my way to Lhasa, and I could only stay there for one day, so I chose Kunlun Pass. It was more than 300 kilometers round trip, and the chartered car cost 600 yuan. It took more than 5 hours round trip. The weather was not particularly clear, but the scenery was still good. And I was lucky enough to see Tibetan antelopes and wild donkeys.

By Yiyun Adult Piano Teaching |

Overall it was very good, except that there were too many large trucks on the road and the toilets along the way were too primitive. Everything else was very good. It is recommended to set off early from Golmud to Kunlun Pass, otherwise it would be too dangerous to drive back to the city at night. After all, it is a two-lane road and large trucks all use high beams, which makes it scary to drive at night.

By Big Rivers and Big Seas |

The scenery of Kunlun Pass is not very shocking. I mean Kunlun Pass, not Kunlun Mountain. Most tourists will stop here to take pictures, because the powerful shock brought by the word Kunlun is probably unmatched in the country. Even the locals call Kunlun Mountain the ancestor of all mountains. The name sounds very charming. Kunlun Pass is a must-pass road on the Qinghai-Tibet line. No matter big or small cars, they will pass through here. They will have altitude sickness to a greater or lesser extent.

By Li Da Miao |

The towering Kunlun Mountain is worth seeing, but if you want to see the snow-capped mountains, you have to wait until the weather is cooler. At that time, the altitude is so high that it will be even colder. Please keep warm.

Kunlun Pass is the entrance to Tibet. There are checkpoints here and there are many large trucks on the road. If you drive there by yourself, you should drive slowly. There are also many speed limit stations after entering Tibet. You must arrive at the speed limit station after the specified time. Otherwise, you will be stopped if you arrive at the speed limit station early. In serious cases, you will be fined. Remember this.

Kunlun has been endowed with too much mythology and martial arts in traditional culture and novels, but its original form is majestic and desolate.

Our understanding of Kunlun Mountain comes from the Queen Mother of the West’s Peach Festival, White Snake Stealing the Immortal Herb, the Kunlun Sect in martial arts novels, or the forbidden area in Ghost Blows Out the Light.

It's very mysterious anyway.

However, when I was there, I felt... Why was the scenery so similar? After looking at it for a long time, it all looked the same.

Kunlun Pass is actually the starting point from Golmud to the 4500m plateau over the Kunlun Mountains. After crossing here, the road to Lhasa is above 4000m above sea level, so be careful to prevent altitude sickness.

On the seventh day of the self-driving trip from Shanghai to Tibet, we passed the Kunlun Pass. The outdoor temperature was -14 degrees Celsius, and the wind hurt my face a little, but I didn't feel very cold. At the same place, there was also a sculpture of the Hoh Xil Nature Reserve - the Tibetan antelope, which meant that we had officially entered the uninhabited area of Hoh Xil.

This is the only way to get there from the Qinghai-Tibet Highway. If you’re lucky, you can see Tibetan antelopes on the nearby grasslands!

By Conca |

In October this year, I finally arrived at Kunlun Mountain, the ancestor of all mountains. As a child from Guangzhou, it was my first time to see such a spectacular mountain range and snow scene. I was shocked. I easily jumped over the Kunlun Pass at an altitude of 4,800 and felt nothing.

By Spirit |

Because we set off very early, it was just daybreak when we arrived at Kunlun Pass, so it was a pity that we didn't see all the scenery on the way up the mountain. It was very cold on the top of the mountain in the morning, and the air was very good. There is a tombstone and statue of the martyr Sonam Darje who sacrificed his life to protect the Tibetan antelope. Now Hoh Xil has become a paradise for Tibetan antelopes and other wild animals. I believe the spirit of the hero can rest in peace. Kunlun Pass is as high as 4768 meters above sea level, so be careful not to get too excited when taking pictures and playing on the top of the mountain, and walk slowly to avoid altitude sickness.

Leaving Chaka Salt Lake, continue westward and soon enter the Qinghai-Tibet Highway. You can't avoid the Kunshan Mountain Gate and Kunlun Pass. I have been to Kunlun Pass twice, and each time I would take a photo under the sign. I didn't notice it myself, but my friend found that the altitude on the sign was different. It seems that the plateau is also "growing"...

3. There was basically no reaction along the way. When we reached the top of the mountain at an altitude of 4768, the three young people's heartbeats obviously accelerated. My mother was fine, haha

So I drank the glucose that I had bought in advance, so I basically just stayed there to look at and take pictures. I couldn’t walk far away to feel the real majestic Kunlun Mountains.

Since I was a child, I have been taught that when people talk about Kunlun Mountain, they say it is the "ancestor of all mountains" and the "Dragon Vein of China", which makes me have an indescribable feeling for it. One of the most important motivations in my heart for this trip to Qinghai-Tibet is to worship and measure Kunlun Mountain in person and fulfill my long-cherished dream.

At the Kunlun Pass, I offered the last prayer flag of this trip, thanking it for helping me realize my wish and praying for my health and safety in the future.

By Go, don't even think about it! |

The scenery is quite good, but we didn't go in because we chartered a car.

Going to Kunlun Pass, you have to go through the entrance and exit station. The inspection is still very strict. The majestic armed police brother with real guns and live ammunition checked our ID. But, but, they didn’t bring their IDs at all, so I begged them. They let us pass, but on the premise that we had to take the driver’s license and change it when we came back.

It's cold, really too cold~~ Although it's not snowing on the mountain, the wind is very strong~~~ I'm shivering, shivering, the cold wind is freezing me to death, I'll build a nest tomorrow~

Tips: The Kunlun Pass is too high, so don't show off. I was fine at first, but then I couldn't help but jump twice, my heartbeat quickened, and my lips turned purple~~
