The South Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda was built in front of Da Ci'en Temple. It is an interpretation of Buddhist culture and was completed and opened in early 2001.
In the center is a 4.98-meter-tall bronze statue of Master Xuanzang, wearing a cassock and holding a staff, which is very similar.
The square has lush greenery, flowing water and a wide field of vision, making it a great place to take photos and experience the scenic area.

Located in Da Ci'en Temple, Big Wild Goose Pagoda is also known as "Ci'en Temple Pagoda". In 652 AD, Xuanzang built the Big Wild Goose Pagoda to preserve Buddhist scriptures and statues brought back to Chang'an from India via the Silk Road. As the earliest and largest existing square pavilion-style brick pagoda of the Tang Dynasty, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda is a typical physical evidence that the architectural form of ancient Indian Buddhist temples, such as pagodas, was introduced into the Central Plains along with Buddhism and integrated into Chinese culture.
The wooden ladder structure in the tower spirals up. When I climbed to the top floor and looked down at the scenery in front of me, the poet's imagination suddenly emerged in my mind, and I improvised a seven-character poem:
The seven-story pagoda in Qinchuan has undergone many changes over the years.
The magnificent Tang Dynasty was so powerful that it shook the world
Stepping back up the ladder secretly is like going through a hole, and climbing to the top for the first time is like coming out of a cage
The evening mist is full of good air, only tourists come and go
On the night of the winter solstice of Wuxu, Yanta comes to accompany the moon!
A seven-character poem
——The Great Wild Goose Pagoda in Ci’en, the Imperial Capital, has a thousand-year reputation and protects all living beings
Chang'an City, the eternal imperial capital, is like the passing clouds of the past, gone with the wind.
The story of Qujiang Liuyin is well-known, and Da Ci'en Temple is famous.
The majestic seven-story pagoda, the evening drum and the morning bell.
Xuanzang's journey to the West to seek Buddhist scriptures has been recorded in history, and the ancient temples are now blessing all living beings.
The tourist attraction I have visited the most times is probably the Big Wild Goose Pagoda in Xi'an!
I went to a middle school not far from the Big Wild Goose Pagoda (the Second Affiliated Middle School of Shaanxi Normal University). At that time, the ticket to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda was very cheap, 5 cents, and climbing the tower was free. I often went to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda after school in the afternoon. I got to know the gatekeepers and they would let me in without asking me to buy a ticket.
I remember that it was very dark inside the first floor of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. I had to grope my way up the stairs holding the handrail. The light became better when I reached the second floor. I did a lot of my homework on the Big Wild Goose Pagoda at that time.
At that time, there was a Yanta Village to the north of Big Wild Goose Pagoda, right next to the northern wall of the Pagoda. It was the first to be relocated.
My favorite thing to do on the Big Wild Goose Pagoda was to look around after finishing my homework. Climbing high and looking far, my mind was open and my thoughts were flying! Imagination! Hope!
At that time, when I looked around from the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the north was the most beautiful, with the straight Yanta Road leading directly to Hepingmen. To the west was a large garbage dump, with the National Defense Industry Office and the Finance and Economics College on both sides, and the No. 1 Middle School Affiliated to the Normal University. To the east was a very large nursery with dense trees. To the south was also a village and farmland, which was completely different from what it is now!
There is one thing I will never forget in my life at the Big Wild Goose Pagoda: one year, Premier Zhou accompanied Prince Sihanouk to visit Xi'an. Before their visit, our class was assigned to clean the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. We were lucky enough to enter the main hall that had been closed for many years at that time and saw the statues and other precious cultural relics up close. What really made me unforgettable was that on the day Premier Zhou and Prince Sihanouk visited, I was assigned to play the role of a tourist and was able to see Premier Zhou and Prince Sihanouk at a very close distance. I was excited for a long time! Even today, I still feel very excited when I think about it!
Later, after graduating from middle school, I went to the countryside and was admitted to the first batch of college students after the resumption of the college entrance examination. From college to graduation, I rarely went to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Although I have been to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda many times with foreign guests and clients for work reasons after I started working, I no longer have the feeling of climbing the tower and looking into the distance when I was in middle school.
Since tickets started selling for the tower, I have only climbed the tower once again, in the 1990s, and have never climbed the tower again since then.
Later, I would still visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda often, but I would rarely enter the scenic area. I would usually wander around outside and go to the Tang Dynasty City That Never Sleeps, the North Square of the Wild Goose Pagoda, the South Square of the Wild Goose Pagoda, etc.
Today is the winter solstice and it’s also the weekend, so I went to the newly opened Joy City next to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and visited an Impressionist Monet exhibition held in Joy City.
When I came out of Joy City, I saw the Wild Goose Pagoda with the moon, which was a great feeling. However, I felt a little regretful and disappointed to see that the area around the Wild Goose Pagoda had turned into a huge construction site!
A five-character poem
——Thoughts on gazing at the moon at Wild Goose Pagoda on the night of the winter solstice of Wu
On the night of the winter solstice in Wuxu, the Wild Goose Pagoda was accompanied by the bright moon.
Wash away the lead powder, this is an ancient phrase, which means to wash away the lead powder, return to nature, and find the true self. It also symbolizes spiritual sublimation and purification. When I came to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, I deeply felt the meaning of this phrase.
The Big Wild Goose Pagoda is located in the Da Ci'en Temple, also known as the "Ci'en Temple Pagoda". It was built by Master Xuanzang to preserve the Buddhist scriptures and statues brought back to Chang'an from India via the Silk Road. You need to buy a ticket to enter the Da Ci'en Temple, but the North and South Squares of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the nearby Tang Dynasty City are open to the public free of charge. The outdoor square on the fourth floor of Xi'an Qujiang Joy City next to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda allows you to enjoy the night view of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, and the red wall outside the Heytea store is a popular check-in spot.
Located in Da Ci'en Temple, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda is also known as the "Ci'en Temple Pagoda". It was built by Xuanzang to preserve Buddhist scriptures and statues brought back from India via the Silk Road to Chang'an. In addition to the Sanskrit scriptures on betel leaves brought back from India, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda also contains more than 10,000 relics. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda has been built over generations and is a seven-story, four-sided pagoda with a total height of 64.517 meters and a bottom-level side length of 25.5 meters.
There is a statue of Xuanzang in the south square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda.
As night falls, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda looks even more majestic in the dark night.
The statue of Master Xuanzang on the South Square is the most shocking. It vividly displays Xuanzang's unswerving faith when he traveled west, and it contrasts beautifully with the Big Wild Goose Pagoda behind him.
A pedestrian street with newly built facilities, similar to Wangfujing Street, feels quite upscale. There is also a "Hema Fresh" supermarket next to it.
The small kiosks for shopping are all decorated in the same style. The streets are wide and clean, but the things are not cheap.
The Big Wild Goose Pagoda, built in 589 AD, is one of the landmark buildings in Xi'an. The Tang Dynasty monk Xuanzang once translated Buddhist scriptures here. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda Square is located at the foot of the Buddhist holy place of the world civilization. It is the largest Tang-themed cultural square in Asia and has become a cultural tourist attraction for Xi'an people to enjoy, gather, and sightsee. After visiting the square, the master of Chinese studies, Professor Huo Songlin, happily wrote a poem: "The water and trees are new, the buildings are beautiful, and the flowers are like brocade and the grass is green. The square has the beauty of a garden, and it is a place for people to enjoy the leisure and enjoyment.
Big Wild Goose Pagoda, Xuanzang statue, and Fountain Square are also must-see places in Xi'an
The South Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda is better than the North Square in that it is next to the Tang Dynasty City that never sleeps. It is very good for photography at night.
The South Square is not large in area and mainly houses a statue of Xuanzang. Further south is the Tang Dynasty City That Never Sleeps.
Many people go there during the summer vacation. It is close to the Tang Dynasty City that never sleeps and next to Joy City.
There is a bronze statue of Xuanzang in the center of the South Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda, which faces south. To the north of the South Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda is the Da Ci'en Temple.
The South Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda was built in front of Da Ci'en Temple. It is an interpretation of Buddhist culture. The landmark building is the standing statue of Xuanzang.
Coming out of the south gate of Dacibei Temple is the South Square of Dayan Pagoda, where there is a statue of Master Xuanzang, which serves as a check-in symbol and you can take photos there.
A big square with a nice night view. Except for the boring fountain, everything else is pretty good.
Xi'an is the most Chinese! Very beautiful. Although the Big Wild Goose Pagoda fountain is temporarily closed, the area around the South Square is great!
It is a square built to commemorate Xuanzang II, with a bronze statue of Xuanzang.
There is a statue of Xuanzang in the South Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda, as well as many Buddhist elements. It is also a good place to take photos of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Many locals come here to relax.
As the saying goes, “If you haven’t visited the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, you haven’t really been to Xi’an.” The Big Wild Goose Pagoda, also known as the Da Ci’en Temple Pagoda, is a masterpiece of Buddhist architectural art from the Tang Dynasty in China.
The South Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda is very beautiful. It is recommended to see it together with the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, preferably at night when the lighting is beautiful.
As one of the must-visit spots in Xi'an, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda is indeed beautiful at night.
The South Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda is more beautiful at night. You can see Da Ci'en Temple and Big Wild Goose Pagoda. There is a bronze statue of Xuanzang in the center of the square. There are also Xi'an people dancing in the square, and their square dance is different from that in other parts of the country. I also recorded a video with my mobile phone.

There will be an additional ticket of 20 yuan per person for climbing the Big Wild Goose Pagoda (if the weather is bad, you can skip the summit because you can't see anything)
If you take a bus, there are many buses that go there, but it is best to go to the South Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda because the gate is on the south side. If you want to see the musical fountain, you can go to the North Square. There is no gate to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda in the North Square. You have to walk from the North Square to the South Square, which is very far! The temple only has one gate! Here is another blackboard! !
The music fountain has two shows in the evening on weekdays and four shows on weekends, two at noon, afternoon and evening. Those who are interested can check the official website***It is under maintenance every Tuesday and will not spray. Please pay attention to the official website for the specific time! It is really beautiful at night, but unfortunately I didn't go because I didn't have time.
Da Ci'en Temple, Xuanzang presided over the construction of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda to preserve the Buddhist scriptures and statues brought back from India via the Silk Road to Chang'an. In addition to the Sanskrit scriptures on the leaves of the betel nut brought back from India, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda also contains more than 10,000 relics. This is written on the Internet. I didn't see 10,000 relics, but I saw two. But the exquisite jade carvings and calligraphy inside are really worth going in to see. But if you are not interested in the Buddha, then there is really no need to go in.
The most famous symbol of the South Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda is the statue of Xuanzang. It is separated from the North Square by a Big Wild Goose Pagoda. The South Square is very spacious and crowded. Local residents come here after dinner to sing, dance, etc., and mix with tourists who take photos and play, creating a lively scene. If you want to go to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, you can enter from the South Square. Of course, compared with the North Square, this place seems a little worse.
There is a sculpture of Master Xuanzang in the South Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda. You can take a panoramic photo from a distance.
My photos were taken while standing on a stone platform in the flowers, of course to avoid photographing people. After taking a few photos, I was finally driven down by the security guard. The stone platform is also a prohibited area.
The endless road in the middle of the South Square is the Tang Dynasty City that Never Sleeps.
On the right side of the South Plaza is the Westin Hotel and Joy City.
There is a whole row of graffiti buildings across the street on the left side of the South Square. The modern street art forms a sharp contrast with the imitation Tang Dynasty buildings.
The South Square connects the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the City That Never Sleeps. Master Xuanzang is the symbol of this place, and it is crowded at night.
The South Square is very beautiful and is the entrance to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. The night view is also very beautiful. I recommend you to take a look. You can take the subway to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda North Square and then walk to the South Square, which is about 600 meters.
This place is well built. Maybe the Suzaku Street was just a little wider back then.
It was already 11:30 when we got back to South Square. There were quite a few people in South Square, all waiting for the New Year to come. There was no ceremony, no bell ringing, and no countdown at South Square for the New Year's Eve.
I went there on New Year's Day. It was packed with people. The square was still under renovation and was covered in dust. It felt just average. I took a standard photo and came back.
When you walk towards the South Square, you will pass by a snack street. Keep going south and you will reach a larger South Square. Both sides are lined with shopping malls in the shape of ancient Tang Dynasty buildings. The night view is very beautiful, and there are many street performances. It is worth a visit.
The square is full of greenery, flowing water and a wide field of vision. It is a good place to take pictures of the beautiful scenery and experience the scenic area.
The lights and the history of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda complement each other, and it feels like the Buddha's light is shining everywhere, which is quite nice.
I particularly like the city of Xi'an, the ancient historical capital, and the snacks.
The library in the South Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda mainly contains sculpture exhibitions. You can take a look.
If you go during the day, visit the South Square, and at night visit the North Square.
I wanted to see the night view of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, but unfortunately it was under renovation and the outside was fenced off, so I could only see it from a distance.
There is a bronze statue of Xuanzang in the center of the South Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda, which faces south. There is Da Ci'en Temple to the north of the South Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda. It is very interesting and playful here. You can take photos with the unique sculptures, taste the gourmet Internet celebrity restaurants from all over the world, and have a panoramic view of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda from a distance. Recommended!
The South Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda is located in front of the Da Ci'en Temple. Its landmark building is the standing statue of Xuanzang. Surrounding it are many gardens and green spaces, granite ground and exotic trees. It is a place for citizens to relax and tourists to stroll.
The South Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda reflects Buddhist culture. In addition to the standing statue of Xuanzang, there are statues of some historical figures such as Li Bai, Du Fu, Huaisu, Sun Simiao, and Han Yu.
The South Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda also offers food, leisure, and a place to commemorate China's glorious history and splendid culture.
From the North Square, bypass the Big Wild Goose Pagoda to the South Square, which is the entrance to the Da Ci'en Temple. The Da Ci'en Temple was built by Xuanzang, who presided over the construction of the Da Ci'en Temple after returning from India to study Buddhist scriptures. He was the first abbot of the Da Ci'en Temple. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda is actually a Buddhist scripture tower in the Da Ci'en Temple.
The South Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda was built in front of Da Ci'en Temple. The symbol of the South Square is the 4.98-meter-high standing statue of Xuanzang. There is nothing much to say about it. People who go to the South Square all want to take a photo of the statue of Master Xuanzang and the Big Wild Goose Pagoda at the same time. Therefore, there are always three layers of people around the statue, after all, there are only a few good angles.
In order to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival and the National Day, the music fountain in the North Square of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda was re-arranged. I was not lucky enough to enjoy it during this trip to Xi'an. I moved to the South Square of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, where I could see the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and Master Xuanzang. It was also a good place to take some night photos. Master Xuanzang, what do you see in this materialistic and extravagant world?
If you don't climb the tower, I don't think it's necessary to go in. You need money to enter the park and to climb the tower. It's the same inside and outside, but you just want to see the tower. 360° view of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda!
The South Square has the famous Xuanzang statue, and to the south is the Tang Dynasty City that never sleeps, while the North Square has the musical fountain. Each has its own strengths.
The South Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda is in front of the Da Ci'en Temple and close to the Tang Dynasty City that Never Sleeps. The square is not big and has a statue of Xuanzang and some greenery.
The Tang Dynasty City That Never Sleeps has been turned into a pedestrian street. As the earliest developed land in Qujiang, although there are still many imperfections, it is also working hard step by step. At night, when the lights are on, it will be another experience.
Compared with the lively crowds watching the fountain in the North Square of Dayan Pagoda, the South Square was developed earlier and is close to the Da Ci'en Temple Ruins Park, so the flow of people is relatively less. There are some figure sculptures in the square.
It is recommended to climb the tower, which contains real body relics and palm leaf scriptures. There are many people, and if you don't want to queue, you can ask someone to help you buy it. Although there is no air conditioning and it is as difficult to climb as Huashan, I personally still think it is worth it. 👍
The statue of Xuanzang looks pretty good against the moon.
Going south along the east side of the fountain, you will see a group of sculptures of people, including people celebrating birthdays, shadow puppet shows, doctors helping the world, wrestling, street music, etc. After admiring the sculptures, you will arrive at the South Square of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. The most eye-catching thing here is a statue of the solemn Master Xuanzang, the host of the construction of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda in Xi'an.
The entire city that never sleeps runs through three theme squares: Xuanzang Square, Zhenguan Cultural Square, and Kaiyuan Square. The city that never sleeps is based on the prosperous Tang culture. It is a nearly 2-kilometer tourist pedestrian street with many theme sculptures in the middle. The scene is grand and magnificent, especially at night, under the background of lights, it highlights the supreme status of the Tang Empire in various fields at that time. There are antique buildings on both sides of the road. The most worth seeing are cultural buildings such as the concert hall, Xi'an Grand Theater, and Shaanxi Artists Gallery. At the end is Kaiyuan Square. The statue of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang in the middle is tall and majestic, and on both sides are 8 giant LED lamp posts, changing different shapes, which are magnificent. It is strongly recommended to come at night and walk the whole way from the statue of Xuanzang. Although it is a bit tiring, it is definitely worth it.
This is a must-see. It should be said that it is the most impressive attraction in Xi'an. Although it is man-made
The Big Wild Goose Pagoda, built in the Tang Dynasty, is one of the landmark buildings in Xi'an. The Tang Dynasty monk Xuanzang once translated scriptures here. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda Square is the largest Tang-themed cultural square in Asia. The entire square is divided into two parts, the south and the north. In the center of the south square is a bronze statue of Master Xuanzang, and there are many citizens relaxing and enjoying the cool air next to it. This is my second time in Xi'an, and I found that the changes here are very big. It seems that the government has invested a lot in urban construction in the past two years.
The South Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda is in front of the Da Ci'en Temple. It is an interpretation of Buddhist culture, including the sculpture of Xuanzang, gardens and green spaces, granite paving and bridges over water. The most famous symbol is the statue of Xuanzang. There are so many people soliciting to visit Qujiang and take pictures in ancient costumes on the two squares of Big Wild Goose Pagoda. We met more than ten of them when we walked around the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. We ignored them and they followed us. It's really annoying. Why don't the relevant departments take any action?
The South Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda was built in front of Da Ci'en Temple, which is an interpretation of Buddhist culture.
Spring, summer, autumn and winter, all seasons are suitable. Beautiful 👍👍👍👍👍
The Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the symbol of Xi'an, cannot be missed. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda is located in the South Square, close to the Tang Dynasty City that Never Sleeps.
The South Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda was built in front of Da Ci'en Temple. It is an interpretation of Buddhist culture and was completed and opened in early 2001. It covers an area of 32.6 acres and includes facilities such as Xuanzang sculpture, gardens and green land, granite paving and water bridge. The Buddhist culture of the ancient Wild Goose Pagoda is well interpreted here. The granite paved ground and the water bridge show the solemnity and solemnity of the South Square. The gardens and green land outline a beautiful and simple picture. The majestic and tall Xuanzang sculpture seems to be preaching and expounding the doctrines to the vast number of believers with a religious sentiment of "compassion for the world" and a positive attitude of being involved in the world, conveying the magic of Buddhism and the mystery of life to people.
I had some time after coming out of the museum, so I went to the square alone to have a look. As time went by, it became more and more lively. Recently, Xi'an has become an Internet celebrity city, and the flow of people has increased sharply. What made me curious was that there were many foreigners performing on the street in the square. The performance was different from that of Chinese people, giving people a feeling of communication between Chinese and Western cultures!
The biggest feature here is the photo of Xuanzang and the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, as well as the super popular internet celebrity wall. It looks good no matter how you take photos of it!
The square is quite large, with many red lanterns hung and colorful lights everywhere.
The statue of Xuanzang in front of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda requires an entrance fee, so I didn't go in. Just take a photo outside.
There are a lot of people and it is very lively. There are local uncles and aunts dancing square dance, beating gongs and drums, and singing Qinqiang. The road from here to the south to the Tang Paradise is decorated with lights and is very beautiful, giving the feeling of the heyday of the Tang Dynasty.
The Tang Dynasty City That Never Sleeps has such beautiful scenery, especially at night.
Highlights: Xuanzang Sutra Collection, Music Fountain, Leisure Square
Big Wild Goose Pagoda is also one of the famous landmarks in Xi'an. It is located in the Da Enci Temple and has seven floors. It was originally built for Xuanzang to offer Sanskrit and relics. It is a representative work of the introduction of Buddhist architecture into the Central Plains.
The Big Wild Goose Pagoda was also the place where the newly-passed Jinshi of the Tang Dynasty inscribed their names. Coming here seemed like enjoying the preferential treatment of Jinshi of the Tang Dynasty. Unfortunately, these inscriptions can no longer be seen. On both sides of the south gate at the bottom of the pagoda, there are two stone tablets, "The Preface to the Holy Teachings of the Great Tang Tripitaka" and "The Record of the Preface to the Holy Teachings of the Great Tang Tripitaka". The pagoda is filled with Buddhist cultural relics.
After detection, it was found that there was an obvious cavity at the bottom of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Scholars speculated that there was an underground palace here. The scriptures and relics that Xuanzang brought back, whose whereabouts no one knew, might be hidden underneath, but the entrance has not been found so far, adding a bit of fantasy to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda.
Today, the area around the Big Wild Goose Pagoda is called the Big Wild Goose Pagoda Cultural and Leisure Area, and has become a free entertainment park, consisting of the South Square, the North Square, the Tang Dynasty Da Ci'en Temple Ruins Park in the east, and the Folk Customs Grand View Garden in the west. The two squares in the north and south are the best places to view the tower from a distance.
The musical fountain in the North Square is one of the must-see attractions at the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Many people choose to go to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda in the afternoon, visit the ancient site, climb up to see the view, and then go to watch the 40-minute musical fountain show in the evening.
The Big Wild Goose Pagoda can be climbed and visited within an hour. The musical fountain starts at 20:30 and lasts for 40 minutes.

We witnessed this Buddhist building, a masterpiece of the Tang Dynasty in China, in the square.
Qujiang has a flourishing cultural heritage and the splendor of the prosperous Tang Dynasty is fully displayed. In the South Square, you can see the Zhenguan Reign and the Kaiyuan Prosperity that represent the prosperous Tang Dynasty.
In 2018, the Xi'an government redecorated South Street, which is very nice and cultural.

No matter when you go, there are always a lot of people. I took a photo with the Tang Monk statue in the South Square.
There is a sculpture of Xuanzang in the South Square. You can go and see it.
Maybe because we didn't go there on holidays, there weren't many people, and the street lights were on at night, which was very artistic. I like this place very much, it's suitable for a leisurely walk.
