Hanzhong Shimen Plank Road Scenic Area

The Shimen Plank Road is an antique plank road newly built after the construction of the Shimen Reservoir. It has restored a post station, three post houses, two trestle bridges and the remains of the Tianxin Bridge in the style of the Han Dynasty.
It is the hometown of Baosi and is known as the "hometown of plank roads" in China. The story of "repairing the plank roads in the open and crossing Chencang in secret" took place here.
The scenic area has two entrances, east and west, located on the east and west banks of the Baohe River respectively. Most tourists enter the scenic area from the west entrance.

Shimen Plank Road should be renamed Shimen Reservoir to be more appropriate, because the expected ancient monuments are either submerged under water or moved to Hanzhong Museum. What I saw was a modern dam reservoir and a viewing plank road. Of course, the scenery is still good, but there are other lakes with good scenery. Another point of complaint is that the road from the gate of the scenic area to the core scenic spot is long, commercialized, and has serious traces of human construction.

By Be indifferent |

I love the Ginkgo Forest anyway. If you are interested in history, you can go there for a walk. Shangba is under construction and you can't go up. The ticket is only 40 yuan. It costs 49 yuan to take the express bus from the city. It costs 2 yuan to take the No. 21 bus back. Turn right after the white bridge and wait for the bus. There is no bus stop sign on the roadside. If you can't find it, it's best to ask the local residents.

By Mars Yingyinger |

There is nothing inside, just a few stone statues. It should be called a reservoir. Whoever goes there will regret it. The ticket is 70 yuan, which is a waste of money. The small train inside is 12 yuan per person. It feels like a scam.

By Think about it |

To be honest, I regret coming here. Many places in the scenic area are under construction and I can't go there. The ticket price is still the same. Isn't this a rip-off?

During the National Day Golden Week, there were not as many people as expected.

Shimen Plank Road is a place worth visiting in Hanzhong. It is the famous entrance to Baoxiadao. Unfortunately, the Shimen Reservoir has submerged the Shimen and the plank road. The existing Shimen and the plank road are replicas. Before the reservoir was submerged, the relevant Shimen cliff carvings had been moved to the Hanzhong Museum. When the scenic area was restored, a long antique street was built at the main gate (west gate), which was not authentic. It takes 2-3 kilometers to get to Shimen Pass to the dam. A new plank road was built in the reservoir area. If you drive, you can go to the East Gate, where you can walk a lot less and go directly to the dam.

Instead of entering from the nearest west gate, drive north and go directly to the dam from the east gate, avoiding the nearly 3-kilometer-long antique commercial street and uphill to the dam. This should be the best choice for friends who drive themselves.

Looking down at the rocky cliffs at the mouth of Bao Valley from the dam, one can imagine how steep the Baoxiadao Road was back then. A new plank road several kilometers long has been built beside the reservoir on the dam, so you can just walk around and take a look.

Qiang Lie recommends taking the shuttle bus. I walked for an hour but couldn't get to the point. I couldn't walk anymore. There was no food for sale inside. I was very hungry.

By Pig Seven Commandments |

There are lots of garbage, construction sites, and the ticket is so expensive, it costs 80!

By Breeze |

You can review some historical stories here. I forgot to take a photo of the most eye-catching ruins, the stack hole, where you can see traces of history. As for other places, haha

From the North Campus of Shaanxi University of Science and Technology, we walked along the small road to the west of the Baohe River. We didn't cross the bridge, but walked directly to the west gate of the Shimen Plank Road. We scanned the tickets on WeChat for 78 yuan and bought two tickets. After entering, we walked all the way to the first bridge in front of the dam. The scenery was actually quite ordinary. It was stuffed with myths, Qin Shihuang, Han Wu, the Three Kingdoms, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, and various historical stories that had nothing to do with the Shimen Plank Road. It felt like there was nothing to put in. The dam and several dikes in the scenic area blocked the water. As the water got deeper, the scenery gradually became more interesting.

Walk from the first bridge in front of the dam to the right side (east side) of the river. There is a small waterfall which is really interesting. You can feel it very close and the sound is very loud. It is similar to the pavilion where Yun Ye fooled Yuchi in Tang Brick.

From here you can walk to the bottom of the dam, close to the water surface, where there is a man-made tunnel of dozens of meters, which has not been fully developed and is quite interesting. Return about a hundred meters along the original route, walk to the fork in the road towards Cuiyunping, go up the steps, and walk to the cableway. It takes 30 minutes to get to the other side of the river, and go around the side to get directly to the dam.

I was shocked by the scenery on the dam!!!

It was as if I was in the Li River in Guilin in the picture. The water was so beautiful. I took all kinds of photos, but I didn’t feel anything at all. Walking on the plank road, it felt like walking on the prehistoric stones on the seashore in Dalian. I visited Dalian and Guilin in one go. It was worth the trip!

By Fish swimming around |

The scenery of the Shimen Plank Road of Shimen Dam is still very beautiful. There are two gates, one from under the dam and one that can directly reach the dam. The ticket price is 80 yuan in peak season, and children are half price. The water here is dark green, and with the sunshine, you will feel very comfortable.

We took a taxi to the Shimen Plank Road. There was a traffic jam before we even got to the scenic area. We got off the car 1km away and walked over. It took quite a long time to get to the gate. The ticket was 80 per person, and 78 per person if you bought it via WeChat. As written in many guides, entering from the west gate is a very boring stone statue and Three Kingdoms story.

After entering the gate of the scenic area and seeing the vast water in front of me, my mood suddenly became better.

There are also performances below the waterfall.

There is also a suspension bridge across the Baohe River in the scenic area, called the Lover's Bridge. It shakes violently when you walk to the middle. It is a different feeling to look at the river from the middle.

When we arrived at Shimen Dam, it was particularly spectacular. The water level difference on both sides of the dam was about 100m

You can take a pleasure boat or a speedboat. Sit in the pleasure boat and quietly watch the scenery. Keep sighing, nature is really magical

After taking the painting boat, we left the scenic area from the east gate. I think it's good to enter the scenic area from the west gate, and there are surprises all the way.

I walked along the road for a long time, until I doubted my own feet, and finally I saw a store.

15 kilometers away from Hanzhong city is a 4A-level scenic spot, the Baogukou Shimen Plank Road. Since it is a 4A, of course I have to go there, but this lousy scenic spot made me spend 80 yuan in vain, so I just treat it as a 20,000-step walk at home.

This scenic spot is a rip-off. First, the construction of the reservoir destroyed such a good monument. Maybe at that time, it was felt that building water conservancy facilities was far more important than preserving the monument. But when I was playing, I found that the Kuomintang modified the design because the road construction would destroy the monument. As a result, the detour did not destroy the monument. We destroyed the ninth wonder of the world because of a reservoir. I don’t know if it is worth it now. Second, there is now an artificial plank road on the reservoir. All the contents of the scenic area are artificially built. Without any monuments, I don’t know what its meaning is. Third, there is a long section of commercial street after entering the scenic area. The streets and kiosks are deserted, and some are not operated. It is not practical to build so many, which is really a waste of money. From the entrance of the scenic area to the plank road, there are statues like the one in the picture for a long distance. Many of them have no connection with the monuments here, and they are even more meaningless. In fact, it is just a reservoir in the true sense now. Maybe this can be considered a scenic spot!

By Yang Yangyang. |

The scenery is beautiful, but the weather was a little cloudy and cold that day, but after walking the upper section, I didn't feel cold at all. The mountains and rivers are full of historical atmosphere. There are small historical explanations on the road, which is not bad.

By China-TravelNote users |

Enter from the west gate, and you will see all kinds of Three Kingdoms, Han Dynasty, historical story galleries and various statues, which is a bit boring~ The real scenery is at Shimen Reservoir (the intersection of Shangdao and Xiadao, where you can take a yacht nearby, the price is very high. I wanted to take a yacht to see the lake and mountains, but was scared away by 200 yuan per trip)~ You can see the lake and mountains along the way from Shangdao, but you have to return along the way when you reach the end~ From Shimen Reservoir to the East Gate route of Xiadao, there is a commanding height of Longhu Pavilion, where you can appreciate the beautiful scenery on both sides of Baohe River. It is very strenuous to go up and down the mountain, but the straight-line distance is dozens of meters (it depends on whether tourists have the courage to climb to the pavilion)~ All in all, it is still okay to go to the scenery at the end of February, catch the off-season ticket, 60 yuan~

Baoxiadao, once the best road in Shu, has been submerged due to the construction of Shimen Reservoir in the 1970s. Shimen Plank Road was built 70 meters above the original site of Baoxiadao. This is the place where "repairing the plank road in the open and crossing Chencang in secret" and "Xiao He chasing Han Xin under the moon" took place, and it is also the hometown of Baosi who "played with the princes with beacon fires". Unfortunately, Hanzhong, which is the main attraction of "Han and Three Kingdoms", has only many stories left to imagine.

By No brain, no heart, no lung |

The food is not very good. It depends on whether you like to eat whistle noodles.

The scenery is pretty good, look at the photos I took, hehe 😁

Lover's Bridge is very nice, it shakes a lot when you walk to the middle

I didn't dare to take the aerial cableway, but it's cheaper than other places, 40 for a round trip

60 tickets in the off-season still feel expensive

By Mountain Love Winding |

The stone gate contains a deep valley,

Floating in ink.

Red leaves reflected in the mist,

Plank road between cliffs.

By The tail of laughter |

There are many man-made attractions. I have to complain about the statue at the entrance because it is hard to see the main point.

By Aunt Jiang |

Take bus No. 21 from downtown Hanzhong and get off at the terminal.

Don't go straight after getting off the bus. There is a long white stone bridge on the left.

There are many antique buildings on the right side of the stone bridge. Go straight and you will reach the West Gate Ticket Office. The adult ticket is 80 yuan. I think it is a bit expensive~

After getting off the bus, there are many black cars soliciting passengers.

They will deliberately point you to the wrong way and ask you to go to the farther east gate. There are no crosswalks along the way. Various vehicles pass by. It is very dangerous... Because I was deceived ~ I am very angry!

There is no obvious sign for the scenic spot after getting off the bus. It's a bit bad~

The Baoxiang Plank Road was built in modern times. The ancient one has been submerged in the lake due to the construction of the dam. If you don't have obsessive-compulsive disorder, I don't recommend going there~

By Nangong Scholar |

There are two entrances to the Shimen Plank Road, one new and one old. There were a lot of people that day, and the traffic police were busy directing the flow of people. We entered the scenic area from the old entrance above the dam. The two of us had a great time!

By Ming Sun and Moon |

The original Baoxiang plank road has sunk underwater due to the construction of the Shimen Reservoir. Now only 7 kilometers of the plank road have been restored for people to enjoy. When there are few tourists, the empty mountain and the birds singing are very artistic.

By lvxiyao |

I went to Shimen Plank Road when I went to Hanzhong in 2010. It is a plank road built along the reservoir.

By Doris' story |

Advantages: The mountains and rivers are connected, the scenery is beautiful, the mountains and waters are green, and the humanities and history are combined. Especially the display of history is very attentive, which is a real surprise!

Disadvantages: Tickets are expensive.

Note: Bus No. 21 can go directly to the scenic spot from Hanzhong, but it will stop a few hundred meters away from the scenic spot, which is the terminal. Don't trust the private cars waiting there. They will say that it is still far from the gate. In fact, you can walk to the scenic spot parking lot in five minutes, and then there is the ticket office. There will also be black cars in the parking lot saying that this gate cannot be entered, it is only the ancient town, etc. Don't believe them, just walk forward and ask the parking lot security guard, you will know that the east gate and the west gate are the same, you can visit the scenic spot.

In short, it is a good place for leisure. The mountain is not particularly high and you can take your children there.

This is the site of the plank road in Baoxiang Valley, and it is also the place where many historical stories took place. For example, the plank road was repaired in the open and Chencang was secretly crossed, and Zhuge Liang's last northern expedition was here. Because of the construction of Shimen Reservoir, the old plank road has been completely submerged. The plank road we are walking on now was newly built later, but they all imitate the ancient craftsmanship. This will be introduced on the road. The scenic area is quite large, and it is about two kilometers from the ticket office to the place where the plank road is located. There are some stone statues with historical stories built on both sides of this road, which are quite rich. If you feel tired, you can take a battery car to go there. The plank road that can be climbed in the entire scenic area is quite long, and you can choose to walk a section according to your physical strength. The plank road is built on the mountain, next to the Shimen Reservoir, and the scenery is quite beautiful.

Shimen Plank Road is 15 kilometers away from Hanzhong City, located at the southern end of Baoxiadao. Baoxiadao is a plank road made of stone and wood that spans the Qinling Mountains in ancient my country, connecting Guanzhong and Bashu. It is a must-go road for military strategists and an important road for business travelers. In history, Xiao He chased Han Xin under the moonlight, and the story of "openly repairing the plank road and secretly crossing Chencang" happened here; Zhuge Liang often entered and exited from here during his northern expedition against Cao Wei. Here is the world's first artificially excavated road - Shimen Tunnel.

In 1971, the plank road and tunnel were submerged in water due to the construction of the Shimen Reservoir. What you see now is a replica of the original site above the water. Some of the most respected 13 cliff carvings in the reservoir flooded area were moved to the Hanzhong Museum.

We entered from the west entrance. There were not many people along the way. The peak season ticket price was 80 yuan per person (free for locals with ID cards). After a slow 2-3 hour tour, it felt very worthless!

The water in the reservoir is quite beautiful.

By It's March. |

This place is worth a visit. The ticket is 80 yuan, and the student card is half price. This is the plank road where "openly repair the plank road, secretly cross Chencang". I heard that a little bit of the ancient plank road was preserved before, and later generations repaired it on the basis of the remaining plank road before, and then it became the current plank road. When you first enter, there are natural scenery and figures from the Three Kingdoms period. Going forward, there is a lover's bridge. There are a lot of people there during holidays. Going forward is to go up the mountain to walk on the plank road. There is water under the plank road, and the scenery is even more beautiful at this time. There are also yachts in the scenic area. If you want to take a ride, you can try it. There is also a particularly great building in the Shimen plank road. I have also posted the picture below. It seems to control the reservoir. In short, the scenery is beautiful. And less than one kilometer away from this scenic spot is the North Campus of Shaanxi University of Science and Technology. The North Campus is also very beautiful. You can go and have a look. There is also an orange orchard on the mountain behind. The oranges are ripe when you go there on October 1st. You can go to the yard to pick them and eat them yourself. That feeling is really great. Pictures are provided

Hanzhong Shimen Plank Road Scenic Area is 20 kilometers away from Hanzhong City. It is based on the Shimen Reservoir, with beautiful scenery and numerous historical sites. It is a suburban water conservancy scenic area with excellent natural landscape and historical culture. The scenic area is full of lush trees and rugged rocks. It has both magnificent water conservancy landscapes, vast water scenery, and profound cultural and historical relics.

By Mountain Tulong |

To be honest, Shimen Plank Road is a tourist attraction I really want to visit, but I am a little disappointed. Mainly because the construction of Shimen Hydropower Station caused the real plank road to sink into the water. The so-called plank road now is just a replica built with modern construction methods, without any history!

By Baili Creek |

The Shimen Plank Road Scenic Area is located on the north side of Hedongdian Town in the northwest of Hanzhong City. It faces the G316 National Highway on the east side across the Baohe River/Shimen Reservoir. From Hanzhong City, take bus No. 102 or No. 21 to the south side of the Shimen Plank Road Scenic Area. The Shimen Plank Road is the most famous section of the 235-kilometer Baoxia Plank Road, which starts from Baogukou in the south and ends at Xieyuguan in the north. As a military stronghold connecting the north and the south in ancient times, it became a battleground for military strategists. The story of "repairing the plank road in the open and crossing Chencang in secret" took place here. In 1975, the water storage of the Shimen Reservoir Dam submerged many ancient sites such as the plank road Shimen, Jiangjunpu, Baosipu (the hometown of the beautiful Baosi), and the "Plank Road Pingge" cliff carvings under water. The most famous thirteen stone carvings from the Han Dynasty to the Song Dynasty on the Shimen Plank Road ("Shimen Thirteen Products") are now on display in the Hanzhong Museum (Guhantai). The current Shimen Plank Road is rebuilt on the basis of the ancient plank road! Although you can't see the original plank road here, the scenic area is lush with trees and rugged rocks. The winding plank road built against the mountain and the vast river complement each other. The scenery is pretty good and can be used as a place to relax on holidays. It is worth mentioning that in order to cooperate with the Hanzhong Rapeseed Flower Festival held from March 20 to April 20, the scenic area still implements the ticket policy of 60 yuan/person in the off-season (80 yuan/person in the peak season) in the peak season (March to November).

By Xiaoqiang |

Here is the world's earliest man-made tunnel - Shimen; this is the birthplace of the national treasure - "Shimen Thirteen Products", this is the hometown of China's plank roads; this is the hometown of the beauty Bao Si; this is the water conservancy pearl of the northwest; here is the local delicacy - Baohe fresh fish. Yes, this is the Shimen plank road. I think the most fun thing about the plank road is the zip line. I suggest you take a round-trip trip. After coming back, walk back to the plank road. The price is not expensive, 40.

By basil |

The first thing that comes into view at the west entrance is the Han and Tang style building. The color is simple and bright, the roof is stretched and flat, and the doors and windows are plain, but it gives people a solemn and generous impression. Continuing forward, what comes into view is a three-level waterfall with a height of 40 meters and a width of 53 meters. The most eye-catching thing is the woman playing the piano elegantly in the mist, accompanied by cranes, like a fairy mirror. So I secretly wondered, "Could this be the cold beauty Bao Si, one of the four great beauties?

By Happy Ranger |

The scenic area is full of lush trees and rugged rocks. It has magnificent water conservancy landscapes, vast water scenery, and profound cultural and historical relics. It is the site of the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units, Shimen, Baoxiadao and its cliff carvings; it also has the world's earliest artificial tunnel - Shimen.

You must try the local delicacy here - fresh fish from Baohe River.

By Gray's fishing trip |

The scenery of the plank road is spectacular! After listening to the tour guide's explanation of the history of the plank road, I climbed up and took a look. Due to time constraints, I didn't walk on the plank road! There is a reservoir next to the plank road, which is also very nice!

By Happy in Five Continents |

Very beautiful scenery, the plank road along the river, plus the signboards introducing the plank road along the way, let people learn knowledge while enjoying the scenery, it's great! There is a direct bus from Hanzhong City, which is very convenient

By Rabbit Bunny |

As the name suggests, Shimen Plank Road is a plank road for climbing mountains. The road along the way is relatively narrow, and there are many tourists who come to play on holidays. It is the same road for both going up and down, so be careful. It is relatively difficult for the elderly to climb up, and they walk slowly. The road is narrow and it is difficult to overtake, so they can only follow slowly and wait for the opportunity.

By Penny & Cheer |

There are mainly sculptures, including sculptures of many figures in Chinese history, and a plank road built along the reservoir, but there are no surprises. If you go to Hanzhong, it's okay to take a look here.

I chose this place as my first stop after reading a lot of travel notes. There are many fish restaurants near the East Gate. We went to one randomly because it was popular. If the fish is big, you can make two flavors, such as tomato fish and spicy fish! Price: Grass carp 25 per catty, silver carp 28 per catty, two balls 40 per catty. The fish are relatively large, so we chose a grass carp, which tasted pretty good! After eating, we entered the plank road scenic area from the East Gate. Fortunately, there were not many people today. The ticket was 80. After entering the scenic area, there are self-funded projects to choose from, such as sightseeing cars and yachts... It's still cool in the mountains, and the breeze is very cool. Looking at the clear water of the reservoir is very beautiful. It's really beautiful mountains and clear waters...

By Zhang Weihua |

Actually, I have only heard of this name. For its history, you can go to Baidu. The scenery inside is OK, more like a one-day tour in the suburbs of Beijing =. = Exercise and breathe some fresh air

Shimen Plank Road Scenic Area is a famous scenic spot in Hanzhong, located at the mouth of Baogu, at the junction of Hanzhong City's Hantai District, Mian County and Liuba County. It is known as the "Hometown of Plank Roads in China" and the "Water Conservancy Pearl of the Northwest". Shimen Plank Road is particularly spectacular under the mutual influence of the surrounding terrain and trees and forests. Its plank road stretching for several kilometers also highlights the crystallization of the wisdom of the ancient working people in my country. It is one of the places that people in Hanzhong often visit in summer. In summer, friends who drive themselves often come here to escape the summer heat. Here you can also eat Hanzhong's special snacks, which is a good choice.

By Promise﹠Never Leave﹡ |

Beautiful mountains and clear waters and picturesque scenery are not enough to describe the beauty of the place. In addition to the natural scenery, the most worth visiting and experiencing is the history there. It was there that Zhuge Liang led his troops to the north!

Openly repairing the plank road, secretly crossing Chencang. This is the Shimen plank road. Liu Bang retreated to Hanzhong and unified the Central Plains, and Liu Bei conquered Hanzhong and became king. Although the earliest plank road was submerged during the construction of the reservoir, it is not difficult to see the flavor of the past, and it is worth a visit!

By Zheng Mengmeng |

The air is particularly good, the environment and scenery are also pretty good, enough for a one-day trip.

By Heart is not stopped |

The plank road is newly built and lacks the ancient charm. Only traces of the ancient plank road remain, and the flood discharge of Shimen Reservoir has made the ancient plank road even more blurred.

This ancient plank road no longer exists as it is completely submerged under the reservoir. The current plank road was rebuilt recently and one can only enjoy the scenery there, but reminiscing about the past is no longer possible.

The rebuilt plank road is not very interesting. It just feels like "repairing the plank road in the open and crossing Chencang (my home) in secret"

In fact, the Shimen plank road is quite deceptive. It is all newly built buildings. The real plank road is only a small section and is not open to the public. You can only view it from a distance and not play with it.

The Shimen plank road is very spectacular, although the original plank road no longer exists. Walking on the newly built artificial plank road can also make you feel nostalgic.

The Shimen Plank Road is a very interesting place because it contains many historical stories and allusions, all of which are expressed in the form of sculptures, reliefs and texts.

I went there mainly for the Three Kingdoms culture. It was in Hanzhong that Shu Han and Cao Wei fought for supremacy, and it was also the place where the story of "repairing the plank road in the open and crossing Chencang in secret" took place. Although the old plank road cannot be walked, the surrounding environment is still very beautiful, and it is worth the trip.

Shimen is the world's first man-made tunnel for traffic. It has been the gateway to Sichuan since ancient times. The idiom "openly repairing the plank road and secretly crossing Chencang" comes from here. Zhuge Liang also traveled back and forth here during his six expeditions to Qishan to fight against Cao Wei in the north.
