Qingdao No. 1 Bathing Beach (formerly known as Huiquan Bathing Beach) was built in 1901. It is the essence of Qingdao's coastal scenic area. After the second Japanese occupation of Qingdao, pornographic music filled the bathhouse, hooligans and ruffians were rampant, and the air was smoky and unbearable. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the number of dressing rooms increased to more than 300. Fewer working people bathed. Later, many private individuals set up dressing rooms and started small boat rental businesses, and the dressing rooms became residents in winter. Later, the dressing rooms were hit by a typhoon and were badly damaged by the time of liberation. After the liberation of Qingdao, the people's government rebuilt and expanded the bathhouse many times, and the appearance of the bathhouse was renewed. The number of bathers increased year by year, and it became a paradise for the people. In 1953, two new diving platforms were built 20 meters from the shore, the number of changing rooms increased to more than 500, anti-shark nets were set up, rescue teams, medical stations and safety lookouts were built, and the Municipal Finance Bureau allocated 30,000 to 40,000 yuan for maintenance each year. In 1965, because the changing rooms were too old, the municipal government allocated funds for partial reconstruction, adding 3 changing rooms (5 rooms each), 2 flushing places, and rebuilding the bathing office building, including medical rooms, police stations, broadcasting rooms, conference rooms, lookouts and other facilities. In 1983, the municipal government decided to relocate 144 households in the bathing beach, demolish the changing rooms, and rebuild the sea bathing beach. The reconstruction of the first sea bathing beach was listed as one of the 10 major events of urban construction in 1984, and the key project command of the first sea bathing beach was established. From the start of construction on March 9, 1984 to the completion on June 26, it took only 108 days to build a beautiful and unique sea bathing beach. The newly built No. 1 Bathing Beach has 63 individual buildings of various shapes, covering a total area of 19,900 square meters. 400 square meters of the original building area have been repaired, and the total building area has reached 20,300 square meters, which is more than double the area of the original dressing room. Among them, there are 13 public buildings such as bathing office, observation tower, flushing place, toilet, etc., with a building area of more than 4,100 square meters. The beach area has been expanded from the original 11,800 square meters to 24,000 square meters. The newly built No. 1 Bathing Beach has become a unique scenic spot for the general public and Chinese and foreign tourists to swim, browse, rest and entertain.

I went to Qingdao in July 2015. Overall, I felt that the first bathing beach was not very clean. I remember that there were seaweeds on the beach. There were a lot of people and they were unfriendly.
