Qingdao Catholic Church

Built in 1930, it was originally named "St. Michael's Church". It is the largest Romanesque building in Qingdao and the only consecrated church in China.
Designed by German designer Billoha in the Gothic and Romanesque architectural styles, it is a brick and stone double-tower building with four large bells.
The church is spacious and bright, with a hall about 18 meters high. There are two confession booths on both sides of the corridor for priests to receive believers for confession.
There is a costly organ in the church that was imported from Germany and is played only during Sunday Mass.

Qingdao Catholic Church was originally named St. Michael's Church on Zhejiang Road, Qingdao Catholic Diocese (St. Emile Church), designed by German designer Billoha based on Gothic and Romanesque architectural styles. The planned church should be 100 meters high, but when World War II broke out, Germany banned the outflow of local funds, so the church had to modify the drawings and built to its current size. The church was built in 1932 and completed in 1934. The tower is 56 meters high and was the tallest building in Shandong Province before the founding of the People's Republic of China.

There is a kind of lavender flower outside the Catholic church. It has a very nice name called Paulownia flower. It can be said to be very pleasing to the eye.

Under the Catholic Church, there will be many newlyweds taking wedding photos among the Paulownia flowers. Stand in the place where the newlyweds took photos and take a few photos.

The ticket to the Catholic Church is only ten dollars, and it’s half price if you have a student ID. It’s so cheap, I definitely have to go in!

The pale yellow walls, the pink roof with a neat cross, the arched doors, the red window ridges, and the simple and beautiful patterns all look colorful and natural. The statue of the Virgin Mary on the right side of the church gives this solemn building a maternal and loving glow.

But when I got closer, I realized that this magnificent church is not easy to photograph. I tried to shoot it horizontally and vertically, adjust the angle, and step back a long distance, but I couldn't capture it completely with my camera. It's really high!

But when you walk from Feicheng Road, the fork of Zhongshan Road, it is an uphill road with a relatively steep slope. If you choose a certain angle here, you can take in both spires of the church, but there were too many cars and I couldn't enjoy this good view, which drove me crazy.

The church is very tall, and the interior is all white, which makes it look spacious and bright. At the end of the corridor is the altar, with exquisite murals painted on the dome above and colorful paintings on the glass windows, which exude holiness and solemnity everywhere. This aura is like countless tiny particles scattered in the air, transmitting into my information sensing system. So, for someone like me who doesn't understand religion, I went into the church, visited it, and felt that the atmosphere was weird if I stayed for a while. I didn't want to blaspheme, so I left quickly.

Qingdao Catholic Church has always been a place that I have always admired. Its fresh appearance and Gothic architecture make people feel like they are somewhere in Europe. The church is particularly quiet in the early morning.

The arched window at the gate is a great place for taking photos. A couple took wedding selfies in front of this gate for more than an hour.

In the spacious and bright hall, the sun shines softly through the colorful stained glass windows. There are corridors on the east and west sides of the hall, and two large altars and four small altars at the back. The dome of the hall is painted with holy murals, full of a strong religious atmosphere. The roof is covered with tongue-shaped red tiles, which is imposing, simple and elegant.

Designed by German designer Billoha based on Gothic and Romanesque architectural styles, it was built in 1932. The building area is 6,302 square meters, and the plane is in the shape of a Latin "cross". There are symmetrical bell towers on both sides, 60 meters high, with 4 bronze bells hanging in the towers. The church square is free, and the ticket to visit the church is 10 yuan

Zhejiang Road Catholic Church is the famous "St. Michael's Cathedral". It is the only consecrated church in China and a business card of Qingdao.

It was designed by German designer Billoha based on Gothic and Romanesque architectural styles. The plane of the church is in the shape of a Latin cross. A huge cross stands on each of the conical spires covered with red tiles. There are four large bells hanging in the tower. Every hour, the bells ring, and the sound can be heard for miles, melodiously and far-reachingly.

The tower is 56 meters high. It is said that the original design was about 100 meters high. After the outbreak of World War II, Germany banned the outflow of local funds and modified the drawings to build it to its current size. The church is built with yellow granite and reinforced concrete, and the surface is carved with simple and beautiful patterns. There is a huge rose window above the gate. The window is a semicircular arch with smooth lines, which looks solemn and simple.

Entering the church, you will see a spacious and bright hall that can accommodate thousands of people. The colorful stained glass windows transmit soft light. The decoration adopts the style of Italian Renaissance. It is spacious and bright. There are seven large chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, an altar at the back, and the icon murals on the dome, which are very solemn and beautiful.

Unlike the grand and magnificent cathedrals abroad, this church is much smaller and more delicate, but the roof is covered with tongue-shaped red tiles, the lights are dazzling, and it is full of a strong religious atmosphere. The combination of rigidity and softness is perfectly unified in this church, making it imposing yet simple and elegant.

The arched doors, red window ridges and simple retro patterns make the originally solemn church more lively and lovely. The breeze blows on the face and the shadows of the trees sway, making everything around seem to be shrouded in a sacred halo, becoming sparse and orderly.

By Yueyue and Big Cat |

The church is still very beautiful, but the ticket sales are very poor. There were too many people asking questions at the Meituan ticket sales outside the temple, and they couldn't answer them all; the ticket sales staff inside the temple were mainly playing with their phones, and ticket sales were probably a side job, and they looked like they had no time to spare.

As expected, it was full of people. Fortunately, the square in front of the Catholic Church was relatively open and could accommodate enough people, so it didn't seem crowded. I had read a lot about it in other people's travel notes, but when I saw it with my own eyes, I still felt it was very dreamy. This is the perfect church for the wedding of the prince and princess in fairy tales.

By The Traveler's Secret |

The Catholic Church on Zhejiang Road can be said to be a popular check-in spot in Qingdao. The photos taken with it as the background are quite artistic. If you want to go in, you only need to buy a ticket. The church decoration adopts the style of the Renaissance. The hall inside the church is spacious and bright, solemn and beautiful. It is the largest Gothic building in Qingdao. Not only tourists are willing to take pictures at the door, but the small square at the door is also the best choice for couples to take wedding photos. With the church as the background, the relationship between two people may be more solemn and cherished.

The church is located in the business district of Zhongshan Road. If you are not satisfied with shopping, you can go to Taitung. There are many kinds of shops here, and I personally like it. If you want to buy specialties, I recommend a store called "Someone's Specialty Shop". The owner is enthusiastic and the things are clean. These two points are enough for me to choose him. Dried seafood is definitely indispensable, which is also a specialty product of Qingdao. And I also like to eat dried squid shreds, which are sweet and chewy. Sea cucumber mushroom sauce and crab chili sauce are also great with rice. What impressed me most was Laoshan tea. Laoshan tea tastes very fragrant, especially the tea leaves in early spring, which are even more refreshing. "Someone" is just like his store opening philosophy: it makes me feel sincere.

The largest church in Qingdao. When I was young, I felt it was very mysterious and had no way to go in to take a look. The interior decoration was rather rough, and it was different from churches abroad. It had a copycat feeling, but the appearance was still very good.

One of the famous attractions in Qingdao, it is the largest Gothic building in Qingdao, the only consecrated church in China, and a masterpiece of Christian architectural art. Zhejiang Road Catholic Church is a little far from the Christian Church, which is a bit magical. We followed the map to navigate there, but we couldn’t find the gate. It might be because it was closed, so we might have passed by without noticing it. In the end, we could only check in and take photos in front of the square.

Before I knew it, I was at the Qingdao Catholic Church. It was tall! It was much more imposing than the Xiaonan Catholic Church in Shenyang. The top of the tower reached the sky, and you had to look up to see the whole thing. When you walked to the front of the church, I believe many people would be shocked. There were at least 20 wedding dress teams taking wedding photos here!

By Wang Liangji |

The first time I went there was in the summer of 2016 when I graduated from high school. It was foggy everywhere, and I bought a ticket to visit the interior. The exterior is very grand, with a strong German style, and the interior is very beautiful, with colorful glass and very beautiful murals. I came here again in December this year. December is the off-season for tourism, and there are not many people. The church stands there quietly with a different beauty. The Spirited Away cultural and creative store under the church is good and worth visiting

The Catholic Church is indeed a holy place for wedding photos. There are couples taking wedding photos everywhere. A rough count shows that there are nearly ten couples!

The original name of Qingdao Catholic Church is St. Michael's Church. There is a fee for visiting the interior. Because I almost vomited after seeing European churches before, I didn't feel any special shock or feeling when I saw this slightly simple church.

By Pancakes |

I used to pass by here at night looking for food, but unfortunately there is really no night view.

This time it was specially arranged on Sunday, hoping to go when there is mass. Although I am not a Catholic, most of the volunteer friends around me are Christians, Catholics, and Buddhists, so I still admire them and their beliefs.

However, I still stayed in bed, and the mass seemed to end at 7 or 8 a.m. I bought a 10 yuan ticket, and I really hope that the money will help charity.

However, the church is still very spectacular and exquisite inside and out.

Next time I bring my family here, I will consider taking them around again.

The Catholic Church is very close to Zhongshan Road. The church is really beautiful. It is bigger and more beautiful than the Christian churches I visited before, especially the glass. There are believers playing the organ inside. Free notebooks are given when visiting inside, and there are many wedding photos taken inside. There are many coffee shops and gift shops on the street outside the church. The graffiti on the wall is also suitable for taking pictures, but there are too many people taking pictures.

The Bible records that the Archangel Saint Michael fought against the devil and finally defeated him to protect mankind. According to Catholic tradition, when a church is built, a saint in church history must be identified as the patron saint. The church is named after this. Walking into the church, it is very quiet. It is spacious and bright, neat and solemn. The colorful stained glass windows emit soft light. The corridors on the east and west sides are decorated with holy images and murals, which are solemn and beautiful. Sit on the chair and feel the quiet state of mind of the believers when they are doing mass.

By Wu Baiwan |

I don't recommend driving, it's quite troublesome to find a parking space. Because in order to avoid the peak period, my friend and I went to Qingdao one day in advance before the National Day. We strung together the attractions and first came to the cathedral recommended by many people. It was really amazing. The square was very big and there were many people, many of whom were taking wedding photos. The ticket price was 10 yuan per person. Entering the church immediately became solemn and solemn. In my opinion, don't take pictures of gods in places of faith like this. It's not solemn and rigorous enough. The whole process can be browsed in 30 minutes, and then walk south on a small road to go directly to the beach.

St. Michael's Church in Qingdao is more familiar to everyone as the Zhejiang Road Catholic Church. It is located on Zhejiang Road in the downtown area and is one of the landmark buildings in Qingdao. We parked our car at a nearby shopping mall and came out to see this majestic building. The Catholic Church was designed and built by Germans in the 1930s. It is a major wedding photography base in Qingdao. There were several couples taking wedding photos in the square outside the church early in the morning. It is a charming place. There is a very unique coffee shop near the Catholic Church called 16 Cat House. This is not an advertisement. The door decoration is very unique. There are pictures below the article. You can't use other people's things for free. The Catholic Church is not interesting. It is full of wedding photos. There are old masters with long guns and short guns. It makes me, a "small spittoon", feel very stressed. There is a graffiti wall downhill from the Catholic Church, and there is a small shop next to it. They are very unique and a good place to take pictures.

The exterior of the Catholic Church is a typical Gothic architectural style, solemn and exquisite. The second floor of the church is blocked and no one is allowed to go up. There is only a long and narrow church for visitors. Looking at the rows of reddish-brown wooden benches, I remembered the romantic wedding scenes on TV. There are paintings and statues of Jesus and the Virgin Mary around the room, with texts explaining the history of the church and the lives of related people. If you are not very interested in them, there is really nothing to see.

The church looks good and typical, but I felt a little sorry that I didn't go inside.

We walked up the slightly sloping stone road. From a distance, we could see the top of the church tower, the pink rubble on the top of the tower, and the slightly Zen-like cross. Many newlyweds were queuing up to take wedding photos. It was a cloudy day without blue sky and white clouds, which was a little disappointing. I thought that the beige walls would be warm only if the sun shone on them. Unexpectedly, such a cloudy day added another touch of the most gentle Christian color, solemn and dignified. It looked just so-so, but the photos were far better than expected, very beautiful, and I liked it very much. The square was paved with bumpy stone slabs, and our walking artifact was a little out of control~~~~~~

Just like all squares, wherever there is a square, there is square dancing; and wherever there is a church (especially a cathedral), there are countless wedding dresses fluttering, and "Look here, hey, that's right" one after another...

You actually need a ticket to get in, but it's only 10 yuan. Compared to the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Guangzhou, this church is making a lot of money.
