Nanxiang Ancient Town is one of Shanghai's four famous historical towns. The Baihe Nanxiang Temple, built in the fourth year of the Tianjian reign of the Liang Dynasty (505 AD), lent its name to the temple. Historically, it was known as "the small Nanxiang rivals the Suzhou City," boasting a rich history, rich cultural heritage, numerous cultural relics, and abundant tourism resources.
The town boasts historical sites such as Guyi Garden, one of the four great classical gardens of Jiangnan; Tian'en Bridge, built during the Shunzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty; Yunxiang Temple, a thousand-year-old temple; and brick pagodas from the Five Dynasties period. Nanxiang's steamed dumplings, with over a century of history, retain their delicious broth and have become a hallmark and symbol of Nanxiang. Furthermore, the ancient town has produced numerous notable figures throughout the ages, including Li Liufang, one of the Four Masters of Jiading during the Ming Dynasty; Wu Zhifan, a renowned bamboo engraver from the Qing Dynasty; and Lu Yanshao, a contemporary master of traditional Chinese painting.

The snacks there are very good, such as xiaolongbao, osmanthus cake, etc.
Jiangnan Town is located at the junction of Suzhou and Shanghai. You can fully appreciate the small bridges and flowing water of the Jiangnan ancient town, as well as the old buildings. At the same time, this place produces very delicious Nanxiang Xiaolongbao, which tastes great.
The old street is not long, and the most famous one is of course the Nanxiang Xiaolongbao. You must avoid peak hours, otherwise the queue will be very long.
Nanxiang Xiaolongbao is everywhere, but Shuangta Old Restaurant is probably the best. The other snacks there are also good.
The ancient town is just average, not as good as other ancient towns in Jiangnan. It is mainly because of Guyi Garden and Nanxiang Xiaolongbao that add color to the ancient town.
Nanxiang Ancient Town has small bridges, flowing water, houses, temples, old houses and shops, just like the ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River.
Every city has such an ancient town, just eat there
This ancient town has nice scenery, but it's a little small.
Located northwest of Shanghai, within Jiading District, it serves as Jiading's gateway to Shanghai, 3 kilometers from the Outer Ring Road and 18 kilometers from the city center. It currently administers eight administrative villages and 16 community committees, covering a total area of 33.27 square kilometers. It has a registered population of 48,000 and a resident population of 110,000.
Nanxiang Xiaolongbao is very famous. It is a good idea to stroll around the ancient streets and eat some Xiaolongbao.
The overall feeling is average, the ancient town is relatively small and not very popular
There aren't many ancient towns in Shanghai, and Nanxiang is one of them. Actually, I went there because of the Xiaolongbao in Guyi Garden and the Tanyuan in the ancient town. As for the ancient town, I didn't have a deep impression of it. It should be not much different from other ancient towns.
There is actually nothing special about the Jiangnan water town, but there are many people
Shanghai's famous ancient town, with Guyi Garden and old streets, is now thriving in real estate. Even after leaving the subway station, there are real estate agents selling real estate all the way. How can the Chinese economy not be bound by this?
Nanxiang Ancient Town, located in Jiading District, is one of the few ancient towns in Shanghai. In the past, due to inconvenient transportation, it took a long time to drive back to get there. Now it is very convenient to get there with the subway. It is only 10 kilometers away from my home. The ancient town has been basically renovated, but it is still quite flavorful. It is the birthplace of Xiaolongbao. There is also a small garden and ancient temple here.
The ancient town has a scenic parking lot, but you can also park on the roadside, with different fees, starting at 8 yuan per hour. The ancient town has a small street and several gardens. The most famous is Guyi Garden, one of Shanghai's four major gardens. In the summer, it hosts a lotus festival, and the entire garden is beautiful. While you don't need a ticket to explore the ancient street, you do need one to visit the gardens. Tickets are reasonably priced, around 10 yuan, including for the lotus festival! Half a day is plenty of time for a visit. Walking along the ancient street, you'll reach the medicinal garden, next to which is a street dedicated to Chinese herbal medicine. Residential areas line the river, creating a vibrant atmosphere. The main attraction, of course, is trying the xiaolongbao (steamed dumplings)!
Nanxiang Ancient Town (Nanxiang Old Street) is located northwest of Shanghai in Nanxiang Town, Jiading District (No. 206 Jiefang Street or No. 48 Renmin Road, Nanxiang Town), 18 kilometers from downtown Shanghai. This thousand-year-old town is one of Shanghai's four ancient towns (along with Jiading Town, Songjiang Town, and Zhujiajiao Town). It boasts attractions such as the Twin Pagodas, Yunxiang Temple (Liuyun Zen Temple), Guyi Garden, and Tan Garden, and is a 4A scenic spot. Nanxiang Xiaolongbao (steamed dumplings) are a traditional Shanghai snack. This is a homogeneous, antique-style commercial street. Nanxiang Old Street is accessible from Nanxiang Station on Metro Line 11, or by foot or bus.
Many people only know about Guyi Garden, but not Nanxiang Ancient Town—actually, Nanxiang Old Street. The Twin Pagodas and the free Yunxiang Temple boast a rich history. Yunxiang Temple deserves respect, as its free incense offerings rival the Shaolin Temple's 6,000 yuan per stick. A river running through the central street is also a great spot for sightseeing.
Nanxiang Ancient Town is located in Jiading, Shanghai. It has the famous Nanxiang Twin Towers. The gardens and streets are full of the charm of Jiangnan. I like it very much and hope to come back if I have the chance.
The Old Street is located in the heart of Nanxiang Ancient Town, an AAAA-rated tourist attraction. It's home to the famous Nanxiang Twin Towers. Within the Old Street are Renmin Street, Gonghe Street, Jiefang Street, Heping Street, and Shengli Street, primarily serving as commercial and residential areas. Admission to the Old Street is free, but tickets are required for attractions within the scenic area. The Old Street gardens are exquisite, with stone steps over water and gurgling streams.
It is a place worth visiting. Although Shanghai is very big
Students who want to eat authentic Nanxiang Xiaolongbao must go there
The Nanxiang Xiaolongbao is delicious and has an antique flavor.
As locals, there is no doubt that we love Nanxiang. Nanxiang Xiaolongbao is the best and most delicious. I suggest that friends who don’t know the difference go directly to the one next to Guyi Garden for the most authentic ones. Anyway, I only eat there every time I go there, after all, it is a time-honored brand.
In addition, it is worth mentioning that friends who drive can go directly to Guyi Garden after dinner to help digestion, or they can take their children to experience the cultural heritage of the garden landscape.
After visiting Guyi Garden, you can go to Nanxiang Old Street to eat snacks. There are all kinds of delicious and beautiful things that will keep you coming back. There may even be folk art performances. Nanxiang, with a history of over a hundred years, has always maintained its original appearance. The Nanxiang Brick Tower stands in the wind and rain for tourists to watch and feel the spirit of ancient craftsmen. In short, such a century-old ancient town is worth a visit with your family.
It is known as a thousand-year-old ancient town with small bridges and flowing water in the south of the Yangtze River. It is quite nice.
It has an antique feel, but not particularly good or bad, just an average feeling overall.
To be honest, I was a little disappointed. There were too many people, and the area was surrounded by modern buildings. I walked out of town, and the food lacked some uniqueness. There was even an auntie near the Twin Towers who wanted to tell my fortune. Fortunately, the weather was good, so I had a nice view.
I visited Nanxiang Ancient Town in June of this year. I was working at the Shanghai International Exhibition Center at the time, and since my solo work life was rather monotonous, I loved to run around. I took the subway from Xujing East around 9:00 AM and arrived at Nanxiang Station in about an hour. It started to drizzle after I exited the station. Wow, I didn't have an umbrella with me. Fortunately, it wasn't heavy and it was quite cool. I spotted an ofo bike on the side of the road and rode for about 20 minutes, passing a small shop to buy some groceries. Another 10-minute ride brought me to Nanxiang Ancient Town. Upon arrival, I realized I didn't need to buy an entrance ticket, but only for other areas inside, like the courtyards. I immediately refunded the ticket I'd bought on China-TravelNote. Honestly, the ancient town's entrance was instantly captivating, and I couldn't help but slow down my pace. The main gate to the ancient town is a stone bridge, completely wet from the rain. Below it lies a narrow river. The water is turquoise, but unfortunately, there's still some trash, which a boatman was cleaning up. Walking into Shitou Ancient Alley, as you'd expect, it was lined with modern, commercial shops. However, since I'd just eaten, I only knew the buns and other items smelled delicious, but I didn't try them. 233333. After walking for a while, I encountered the cat (pictured). As a cat lover, I took a lot of photos of it. It seemed like the cat had gotten used to me and even rubbed against my legs, haha. Then, in the alley next to it, there was a sandalwood garden. It was truly inspiring, and the whole alley felt completely different from the commercial alley I'd been in. The alley was sparsely populated, with houses on both sides, their ancient doors tightly closed. This is the true, quaint charm of Nanxiang Ancient Town. The trees in the courtyards were enormous, their shade reaching outside, and the cicadas chirped. Then I reached the end. Indeed, Nanxiang Ancient Town has become quite small now. It only took me 15 minutes to walk the entire way, and it seems so tiny in the vast city. Surrounded by high-rise buildings, it's truly remarkable that it's been preserved to this extent. I recommend a visit, but don't overdo it, as the area is so small. The residents around here probably come here often.
Nanxiang Ancient Town is located in Shanghai and offers convenient transportation. From downtown Shanghai, you can take the subway directly to Nanxiang Station, and buses can reach Nanxiang Ancient Town. Nanxiang Ancient Town is relatively small, but its landmarks are Guyi Garden, Nanxiang Old Street, and Liuyun Temple. Nanxiang Xiaolongbao (small steamed buns) are its signature delicacy. Guyi Garden, a classic Jiangnan garden, boasts a well-planned layout and beautiful scenery, making it a worthwhile visit. While little remains of Nanxiang Old Street, glimpses of its former prosperity can still be seen. Liuyun Temple, a renowned local temple with a long history, is currently undergoing renovations.
Many of my friends from Shandong live in Jiading, but do you know how beautiful this ancient town is?
It feels quite convenient. After getting off at Line 11, get off at Exit 2 and transfer to Line 111 (there is a bus stop opposite the subway station). It's quite nice once you get there. Shopping is also possible. There are several good clothing stores and many more snacks than in Qibao. The historical relics, the Twin Towers, are well preserved. The roasted pig's trotters are delicious. There are quite a lot of delicious food, such as barbecue and so on. It's not bad!
Nanxiang is a thousand-year-old ancient town. The Baihe Nanxiang Temple was built as early as the fourth year of Tianjian in the Liang Dynasty (505 AD), and the town got its name from the temple.

I came here after going to Guyi Garden. I don't know if I went in the wrong direction, but I felt like I had finished the walk in a flash. Nanxiang Xiaolongbao is quite delicious and the price is reasonable.
Nanxiang Ancient Town, with its small bridges, flowing water and people's homes. The xiaolongbao are pretty good.
One of the ancient towns in Shanghai, it is also worth a visit.
The ancient town is generally in good condition, mostly recreated in imitation of its original architecture, but it does retain some historical relics and boasts a rich cultural heritage. It has a strong water town character, with numerous rivers, though the water quality is average. It boasts numerous attractions, convenient transportation, comprehensive supporting facilities, and free admission, making it highly accessible.
Because there are people everywhere, I went to experience this ancient town carefully by myself, haha, it's not bad
The well-preserved ancient town has many old buildings. The most attractive thing is Nanxiang steamed buns, which is the origin of
The ancient town is not big, fortunately there is not a strong commercial atmosphere, small bridges and flowing water, the water is too dirty and full of garbage.
"Jiading Gardens" 😁😁😁
It’s a pity that I didn’t choose the right shop to eat buns.
Nanxiang, a city of outstanding people and beautiful scenery, boasts a 1,500-year history. Located northwest of Shanghai, it belongs to Jiading and is a renowned historical and cultural town in the Jiangnan region, earning the nickname "Silver Nanxiang." Nanxiang Ancient Town boasts historical sites such as Guyi Garden, one of the four great classical gardens of Jiangnan; Tian'en Bridge, built during the Shunzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty; Yunxiang Temple, a thousand-year-old temple; and a Five Dynasties brick pagoda, all reflecting a rich and ancient culture. Nanxiang Xiaolongbao, with over a century of history, retains its delicious broth and has become a hallmark and symbol of Nanxiang.
I went there during the National Day holiday in 2015. It was packed with people.
You should go to the local place to eat the authentic Nanxiang Xiaolongbao, it tastes really good.
Jiading Nanxiang Ancient Town is quite nice. It is not far from where I live in Shanghai. I can go shopping in the ancient town in the evening after work. By the way, I can also taste Nanxiang Xiaolongbao, which is very famous and is a specialty snack in Shanghai.
In Nanxiang Ancient Town, there's Guyi Garden, a small but exquisite garden rich in classical style. In summer, it's a great place to enjoy the lotus. The Nanxiang Xiaolongbao (small steamed buns) nearby are also quite good.
Take Line 11 and walk a short distance from Nanxiang Station to get there. It's not too far. The ancient town is not big and you can finish visiting it in half a day.
Personally, I think it is larger and better preserved than the Zhouqiao Old Street in Jiading. Of course, it is also closer to the city. It is still worth a visit.
Cycling to Nanxiang, eating freshly baked dumplings, but not going into Guyi Garden
Yunxiang Temple, Tan Garden, and Nanxiang Ancient Town Exhibition Hall are all very beautiful, especially Tan Garden, the courtyard of Ming Dynasty painter Li Liufang. As you enter the garden, you can hear the melodious sound of the zither, and wandering through the pavilions and towers, you will mistakenly feel like you have traveled back to ancient times. Such an elegant place is really a bit of a reluctant to leave. For Xiaolongbao, the old brand "Rihuaxuan" on the road from Shuangta to Yunxiang Temple is authentic, but there are too many people and no seats. I left a regret and will make up for it next time. Transportation is very convenient. You can take bus No. 62 to Yunxiang Temple, or take subway Line 11 to Nanxiang Station and transfer to Nanxiang Line 5 to arrive.
A rare ancient town in Shanghai
Xiaolong steamed buns are worth a try
Nanxiang’s xiaolongbao (dumplings in soup) is the most famous. The xiaolongbao restaurant in Gucci Garden is very popular and you have to queue up for a bite. The dumplings have thin skin and fresh meat, and there is juicy soup, which is really delicious. Xiaolongbao is a specialty of Shanghai and is highly recommended.
Nanxiang Ancient Town is small, and if it weren't for the fame of Guyi Garden and Nanxiang Xiaolongbao, there would probably be even fewer tourists coming here. However, the town is well maintained, and the square tower is worth a visit.
Nanxiang Ancient Town, located in Jiading, is famous throughout the country for its steamed buns with different shapes and sizes.
This is a very small ancient town, but there are fewer people in Qibao now, and there are many things to eat. But I feel that many ancient towns are almost like this now, so it's okay.
There is no direct subway line to the ancient town, so you have to take a short bus ride from Nanxiang subway station. The xiaolongbao is delicious and the scenery of Guyi Garden is beautiful.
Actually, I went here mainly to eat Nanxiang Xiaolongbao. I rode a bike from Songjiang and was hungry. The food was delicious. The food in the ancient town is probably the same.
The main purpose is to eat Nanxiang Xiaolongbao, the rest is not worth seeing
It is similar to Qibao Old Street, the water is super dirty, and there are only stinky tofu, soup dumplings and some snacks. The place is not big, and there is nothing to see unless you go to Tanyuan, which charges a fee.
You can go to Yunxiang Temple, Guyi Garden and Nanxiang Old Street.
It's not far from the city center, so you can have a good time on the same day, but the content is a bit less.
Jiading Ancient Town is pretty good, and the most famous one is Nanxiang Xiaolongbao.
The old streets of Nanxiang Ancient Town have been heavily commercialized. Apart from the quaint buildings, there is nothing special about the place. The whole street is filled with Nanxiang Xiaolongbao.
It's just average, not very fun. Nanxiang Xiaolongbao is not as delicious as I imagined, not as delicious as Suzhou soup dumplings, it's just a personal taste. After all, I'm not born and raised here.
I feel that all the ancient towns are similar. Nanxiang Ancient Town is very famous for its Xiaolongbao, and there are the most shops selling Xiaolongbao.
This is the place where Nanxiang Xiaolongbao is located. Guyi Garden is worth a visit. The transportation is not very convenient.
There are a lot of xiaolongbaos for sale, but the taste is average.
I feel that the xiaolongbao here is not as delicious as before, and the price is expensive. Moreover, this ancient town is not fun at all. The place is not big, and the buildings are actually similar to other ancient towns, but not as well planned as Zhujiajiao and Xitang. Of course, if you don't go to the park, you don't need to pay the entrance fee. This is the only good thing, but I personally feel that the cost performance is not high. I still want to eat xiaolongbao, but now the food is getting less and less delicious. I am disappointed.
After the opening of Line 11, transportation is very convenient. Taking children to Nanxiang Ancient Town on a clear autumn afternoon is a good choice.
An ancient town with typical Jiangnan characteristics, and lots of food to eat at night. Worth a visit
Jiading is quite far from Jinshan if you don’t take the highway. I remember it took me 3-4 hours to drive back to Jinshan.
The scenery is beautiful and the atmosphere is very good. It has the charm of an ancient town. It feels great walking on the road.
Nanxiang Ancient Town is worth a visit, it has the feeling of a water town. There are also delicious dumplings and Gucci Garden
Yunxiang Temple and the Twin Pagodas are worth seeing. As for the Xiaolongbao, I feel like it has changed and is not as delicious.
There is nothing interesting to see except the ancient town buildings...
The area is also very small
The pedestrian street is basically all grilled gluten and grilled pig's trotters
The soup dumplings at the restaurant outside are quite delicious.
The skin is a bit raw
It doesn't have the chewy taste of the northern ones.
The rice noodles are quite delicious
(Crab Roe Soup Dumplings 14, Beef Brisket Rice Noodles 25)
In general, travel is not recommended
I won't talk about the food.
There are better places to take pictures of the ancient town
The shops next to the ancient town are a bit rustic🧐
