The Soong Ching Ling Former Residence in Shanghai was where Soong Ching Ling lived and worked for many years, and was an important venue for her state affairs. The shop was closed in 2018. It was a wasted trip if it was just for renovation.

A renowned patriotic education center, the former residence comprises a private residence and a museum, covering a total area of over 4,300 square meters. The residence is divided into a front garden, a main building, and a back garden. The main structure is a three-story, creamy white, boat-shaped, Western-style building with a floor area of 700 square meters. The courtyard is lush with trees and green grass. Even today, you wouldn't be able to afford such a residence.

The interior isn't large. To the right of the entrance is a statue of Soong Ching Ling, and behind it is the Soong Ching Ling Museum. It displays numerous photographs and artifacts of Soong Ching Ling. While this exhibition focuses on a different topic than the Soong Ching Ling Memorial Hall at the International Cemetery, it's still quite informative to see both. Particularly impressive here are a handwritten letter from Li Zongren and a painting by Soong May-ling titled "Fu Shou Quan."
After leaving the memorial hall, you will find the former residence. Song Qingling lived here for more than ten years and met many celebrities here.

Before visiting Soong Ching Ling's former residence, I often borrowed and read books at the Shanghai Library, also on Huaihai Middle Road. I've always believed in the existence of aura, and because I felt the aura around the Shanghai Library was particularly positive, I frequented it.
Later, I found on the map that Soong Ching Ling's former residence was not far away, so I walked there from the Shanghai Library. It turned out that this road was full of garden houses, where dignitaries lived.
Nearby are the former residences of Ba Jin, Huang Xing, and Chiang Ching-kuo. Not far away, No. 11 Dongping Road is Song Ziwen’s favorite garden house.

The memorial hall is located on Huaihai Middle Road, a beautiful street in itself and well worth a stroll. Upon entering the memorial hall, you'll see a white statue of Soong Ching Ling. Behind the statue is the Soong Ching Ling Cultural Relics Museum, housing over 15,000 of her relics. Free volunteer tours are offered at the residence every hour; please check the notices at the entrance for details. The back garden is also stunning—a must-see!
