Zhongshan Park, originally named Zhaofeng Park, was built in 1914 by the British resident Zhaofeng during his stay in Shanghai. It was then the city's most famous park. Later, it was renamed Zhongshan Park in honor of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. Although small, the park boasts a pleasant atmosphere and environment, boasting pavilions, rockery, lawns, flower beds, ponds, and a children's playground, making it a popular outdoor activity spot for nearby residents.
The park's design is primarily based on British natural gardening, incorporating the essence of Chinese garden art. This unique blend of Eastern and Western elements creates a unique style, making it the most intact example of the original landscape style preserved in Shanghai's older parks. Among the twelve scenic spots in Zhongshan Park are: Green Gate (the park's south gate), Fragrant Flower Villa (Peony Garden), Raindrops on Waterside Pavilion (Chen Family Pond), Green Morning Glow (Large Lawn), Fragrant Garden of Red Flowers (Rose Garden), Twin Lakes Ringed in Green (Yuanyang Lake), Moonlight over the Lotus Pond (Lotus Pond), Soaring Forest Garden (Shanshui Garden), A Single Tree Proud of Frost (Large Plane Tree), Sunset Glow over Stone Pavilion (Marble Pavilion), Steaming Snow over Rainbow Bridge (Dashiqiao), and Remaining Charm of the Old Garden (Back Gate).

I didn't expect that there would be a queue at the entrance to the park during the long holiday. There were so many people in the park, but pets are not allowed in here.
The peony garden is actually not very big, it seems to be only 5 or 6 flower beds, with about 10 varieties of peonies, most of which are in full bloom, but some have already faded. Compared with the peony garden in Xi'an, it is still much smaller, and many of the peonies have no introduction.
The so-called photographers carrying cameras and long guns like to cross the railings to take pictures by the flower beds. They won't come out even when the security guards call them. I have seen them before on the lawn next to the concert hall. They cross the railings to go inside and take pictures. They are really used to freedom.
Chenjiachi is undergoing major renovations, so a large area has been fenced off.
Every city must have a park. Zhongshan Park is actually quite large. Many people exercise there now.
The lush vegetation and fresh air make it a great place for chatting, walking and exercising.
One of the most famous parks in Changning Putuo area, I often went there when I was a child
Going to Zhongshan Park to see flowers in spring is a completely different experience than going to Shangzhi Park. Sometimes when I am in a bad mood, I just want to find a place where I can walk around.
A park for leisure. I have to pass by it many times because of the subway station. I also stayed in a hotel nearby.
The sun is out and I am so happy. I take a leisurely walk in Zhongshan Park and pass by East China University of Political Science and Law. The century-old buildings of St. John's University are so charming!
It's just okay, in the middle of Changning District, there is a subway station, which is quite convenient, and there are many people around.
Zhongshan Park doesn't require a ticket, and it's now reportedly open 24 hours a day. The cherry blossoms in the park are beautiful in the spring, but Baidu's recommendation for Zhongshan Park's ancient ginkgo trees as a Shanghai ginkgo viewing spot is a bit exaggerated—there are only about ten of them... I kind of regretted going. There aren't many other activities in the park, so it's not suitable for couples. It was too crowded, with so many elderly people and children, it felt very crowded...
A nice park with many people dancing Xinjiang dance. The scenery is also very exquisite, especially the marble pavilion is very beautiful.
In memory of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the park is small, but the air and environment are very good. It has pavilions, rockery, grass, flower gardens, rivers and ponds, children's playground, etc. It is a place for outdoor activities for nearby residents.
It is probably one of the largest parks in Shanghai's inner ring. It has several large lawns and small bridges and flowing water, making it a great place for a leisurely stroll.
I used to walk through the park frequently with my monthly ticket, but now the place is no longer the same as it used to be, and there is little trace of the old look that I remember.
Enjoying the cherry blossoms... not bad... nothing else...
Zhongshan Park itself is not very distinctive, but the surrounding facilities are very strong. There are subway lines 2, 3, and 4, and two large shopping malls, Dragon Dream and Raffles City. The transportation is convenient and there are all kinds of shopping and dining.
It is what a park should look like, with old men practicing Tai Chi and dancing, chairs for resting everywhere, and children flying kites. It is a peaceful and quiet place, and it is worth a stroll.
A small park in the heart of downtown.
Very good place to relax.
Compared with the surrounding high-rise buildings, it is a blessed land!
The garden is primarily English-style, incorporating the essence of Chinese garden art. It features a Western-style, geometrically structured lawn, a landscape garden, a botanical garden, rockery, and a Mandarin Duck Lake, all in a unique blend of Chinese and Western elements. A Platanus chinensis tree stands 30 meters tall, with a crown width of 31 meters and a diameter at breast height of nearly 1 meter, making it the largest in East China. The garden is easily accessible via Metro Lines 2, 3, and 4, and there are also numerous buses, ensuring convenient transportation.
Eating in Zhongshan Park
Zhongshan Park does have a lot to offer, and it's worth a stroll through the park to admire the beautiful scenery and breathe in the fresh air. I'll definitely visit again in April when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom.
The cherry blossoms in Zhongshan Park are renowned, many of them ancient trees, a fact of historical significance. In the 1920s and 1930s, the park's predominantly foreign visitors were Japanese. To cater to these visitors, the Municipal Council commissioned a Japanese gardener from Yokohama to design and construct the "Japanese Garden" within the park. Key attractions include a cherry blossom grove and a rockery viewing area. The cherry blossom grove primarily features late-blooming cherry blossoms, which bloom in mid-April. These late-blooming cherry blossoms have double petals, densely packed together, adorning the branches and creating a more vibrant display than early-blooming cherry blossoms. From a distance, they resemble a pink mist.
Many cities have Zhongshan Parks, and it is nice to take a walk in the park.
Has it been occupied by the blind date uncles and aunts? As soon as I exited the subway and turned into the park, I felt like I was in a maze. I saw that the situation was not right and I ran away quickly, otherwise I would delay someone's important event.
The environment is good and the surrounding transportation is convenient, which is suitable for weekend leisure activities. If you are lucky, you can also see small animals such as squirrels~
It's a park for the elderly. I've been there a few times as a volunteer, but there's nothing special I remember. The cherry blossom garden is very small.
The environment inside is wonderful, with many people strolling around, practicing dance, Tai Chi, square dancing, and social dancing. Occasionally, someone plays the flute or other traditional Chinese music. My company used to be right next door, and sometimes, after get off work, I'd go there with my colleagues, chatting and relaxing. It feels natural, like being alive. Otherwise, I was always working and surfing the internet. It wasn't life at all. After being dragged there by my colleagues, my mind and horizons have broadened. I've become more adept at living. I've grown to love life more and more.
A park that is very suitable for morning exercise. It is next to Yuyuan Road and the back door leads directly to Huazheng University. It is a park I like very much.
There are many beautiful parks. Although Zhongshan Park is not big, it is very enjoyable and suitable for local residents to take a walk and do morning exercises.
One of Shanghai's free parks, this peaceful spot amidst the bustling city is truly delightful. Zhongshan Park boasts a cherry blossom forest, which is beautiful in the spring when the blossoms are in full bloom. The environment is pleasant, and there are even squirrels.
Directly accessible via Lines 2, 3, and 4... Firstly, transportation is very convenient. Secondly, it's right next to the Dragon Dream Shopping Center and across from the Shanghai Book City branch, making it a great location. I used to go there often in the summer evenings to escape the heat, and I'd see elderly people happily square dancing at the park entrance. It was a lovely atmosphere. The rides in the park are generally average, with a limited variety. But in today's city center, where land is so expensive, having a park is a welcome addition; at least it offers some peace and quiet amidst this concrete jungle.
Zhongshan Park doesn't feel large, but it's packed with people. Square dancing is a must, with some gentle and quiet, others passionate and exciting, and each family has their own style.
The most gratifying thing was seeing people flying kites. It was a very beautiful memory for me.
In Zhongshan Park, I also saw a little girl sketching a pavilion. Inside the pavilion, there was a group of uncles playing saxophones. I stopped and listened to them playing "When Will the Bright Moon Rise" and "A Dream of Splendor", which was a feast for my ears.
It's very close to where I go to school, with East China Normal University nearby and an ocean world inside.
I saw it at the subway station and came here accidentally. The greenery is very good, with many towering trees, but it doesn't have any special features as a park. It may be that I have seen too many parks, or maybe I came here during the wrong season. It's good to breathe some oxygen.
This garden, built by the French in the last century, is primarily French in style. Previously a paid park, it was renovated and opened to the public free of charge. It's typically visited by elderly residents who enjoy strolls. The park is adjacent to Dragon Dream, a commercial district with a relatively developed restaurant scene.
It is a paradise for senior citizens to engage in activities in the city center and is very popular.
It was first built in 1914 and was called Zhaofeng Park. In 1941, it was renamed Zhongshan Park in memory of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. It is one of the famous large parks in Shanghai. It is mainly based on the British natural garden style and integrates the essence of Chinese garden art. It has both Western-style geometric lawns and natural landscape gardens, botanical gardens, rockery, Yuanyang Lake, etc. that combine Chinese and Western styles. Many people exercise in it early in the morning.
The legendary blind date base is indeed worthy of its reputation
It's a pretty unique park, mostly populated by seniors! There are groups of people playing guitar, playing chess, playing mahjong, flying kites, square dancing, and more! There are also fitness jogging spots, and perhaps considering the large number of elderly people, there are emergency rescue posts along the way, which is really appreciated! There are also a few playgrounds, so overall it feels pretty good!
When I went there, winter had just passed and the scenery was average.
Zhongshan Park - this park with a long history,
It has now gradually become an open green space, performing the function of a green lung in the city center.
I have walked here countless times, but nature is changeable. I didn’t expect it to be so beautiful and fresh in spring.
A park for citizens to walk, exercise, play chess, and chat, with no other special features
Well, it seems like a big shopping mall is on Line 3. Well, Shanghai's subway is very developed and can reach almost everywhere. Where is the best place to go for shopping?
Zhongshan Park, formerly known as Zhaofeng Park, is located at No. 780 Changning Road, Changning District, Shanghai (near Dingxi Road). It was founded in 1914 by the British Zhaofeng when he was in Shanghai. It was the most famous park in Shanghai at that time. The park is mainly based on the British natural garden style, integrating the essence of Chinese garden art, combining Chinese and Western styles, and has a unique style. It is the oldest park in Shanghai that has preserved the most complete landscape style. It has won the honorary title of "Shanghai Four-Star Park". [1]
Zhongshan Park covers an area of about 200,000 square meters and is divided into more than 120 scenic spots of varying sizes. These scenic spots vary in their views and have their own unique characteristics. Among them, twelve scenic spots such as Yinmen Diecui were selected as the "Twelve Scenic Spots of Zhongshan Park". They are all outstanding and representative garden landscapes in the park. [2]
It rained the night before in Shanghai in April. Walking into the park, I saw colorful flowers and green willows, old people doing morning exercises, and children flying kites. I felt refreshed.
A park commemorating Dr. Sun Yat-sen in Changning District
An old park with little to offer, but a good place for people-watching
I've only been passing by and haven't been in yet. The location is pretty good, so it's not a problem to go out and eat, drink and have fun after a walk.
Shanghai Zhongshan Park is located in the heart of Changning District, Shanghai. It covers a total area of 214,200 square meters, including 118,600 square meters of green space, 12,200 square meters of water surface, and 36,900 square meters of lawn. It boasts over 30,000 trees of 260 varieties. Shanghai Metro Lines 2, 3, and 4 have stops here. The park is renowned for its beautiful classical landscape, while the surrounding area has become a bustling commercial district, home to Milan Square, Suning Shopping Center, Rose Square Shopping Street, Dragon Dream Shopping Mall, and Multimedia Plaza.
Zhongshan Park is located in Changning District, just across from the Zhongshan Park exit on Metro Line 2. Admission is free and the park is vast. It's lush with plants and beautiful scenery, including a large lawn where many people fly kites on sunny days. The park also has two stray cat habitats, where cat lovers regularly come to feed the cats daily. The park also offers plenty of seating for people to relax, making it a very user-friendly experience. Under the largest tree in the park, there's a circle of seats that's often packed with people. It's a very relaxing place.
The environment is average and a bit messy. It is quite congested and I don't like it.
Located in Changning District, it is accessible by Metro Lines 2, 3, and 4. Surrounded by numerous shopping malls, it is also a popular shopping district in Changning District.
The place is quite big, there is a lake, and there are many people flying kites and playing with drones on the lawn. Children can have a lot of fun. Parking is not very convenient around
Shanghai Zhongshan Park is located on Changning Road and can be reached by Metro Lines 2, 3, or 4. The surrounding area has become one of Shanghai's bustling commercial districts, with places to visit like Milan Square, Printemps Paris, the Rose Square underground shopping street, Dragon Dream Shopping Plaza, and Multimedia Plaza. The park is large, with expansive lawns, and is popular with adults exercising and flying kites. There's also a jogging track and play equipment for children. The abundance of plants, neatly arranged, is a delight to the eye. Many couples and mothers with children stroll through the park, a truly charming sight.
It was said that there would be a cherry blossom forest, but why are there only a few trees₍ↂ⃙⃙⃚⃛_ↂ⃙⃙⃚⃛₎
A rare green space in the city, a great place to breathe fresh air on weekends.
Suitable for relaxation, the elderly still like parks
A park on Changning Road with convenient transportation
Zhongshan Park is located in a bustling area in downtown Shanghai. Most of the people visiting the park are couples, and the environment is quite quiet.
Zhongshan Park has amusement facilities, a small museum and a large lawn, which is worth a visit. It is a good choice to sit on the lawn with your family in a tent and relax during the weekend. The museum inside is not big, but it is very distinctive and free of charge.
Free of charge when getting off at Zhongshan Park Station on Line 3
The place where I played when I was a child was just an ordinary park with amusement facilities, and it was mostly visited by children and the elderly.
A beautiful little park in the heart of downtown. It's not big, but workers love to take a nap there, and the elderly love to feed the cats. Inside is the beautiful Royal Garden Restaurant, which is very romantic and affordable.
The scenery is nice, the view is pleasant, and it is quite lively.
It’s very popular! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Zhongshan Park is located in Changning District. Bus No. 947 takes you to Zhongshan Park Station, or the subway. Every spring, the park displays a vibrant display of flowers for the public to enjoy. In the mornings, many elderly people come for morning exercises, jogging, and Tai Chi. Others come for exercise in the afternoons and evenings, and at other times, the park hosts singing performances. A stroll through Zhongshan Park is filled with singing, laughter, and, naturally, the fragrance of birdsong and flowers.
It's not very big, no tickets are required, although it's messy, but it's very popular
It's very big and there are many people working out in it in the morning, which creates a great atmosphere.
Next to the park is the Dragon Dream Shopping Mall, where you can go for a stroll on weekends.
The park environment is very good, and many people go there to exercise every morning.
The park is not big, but it is quite famous. It is located in the Dragon Dream area and has a lot of food, drink and entertainment. It is good.
It's my childhood memory. I've never forgotten it.
Zhongshan Park is free now. Instead of going to Gucun Park to enjoy the cherry blossoms, you might as well go to Zhongshan Park. Their cherry blossoms are also very beautiful.
There are not many parks in the city center, and Zhongshan Park is one of the larger ones.
It's still good, you can take your children to play and breathe fresh air.
This park is very close to home and has a long history. While not very large, it's still manageable in the city center. The scenery is quite nice, with each season offering its own unique beauty. I took a few photos of the late autumn scenery this time, which was quite beautiful. Because there are many residents nearby and it's located in a busy business district, the park is always crowded, especially on weekends. Another popular species is stray cats, which attracts many people who come to feed them. Also, the park is open 24 hours a day, which I personally think is pointless and a bit of a waste of resources.
