Chinese people always have a special affection for the Hukou Waterfall of the Yellow River. It takes almost 2 hours to drive from Pu County to the Hukou Waterfall of the Yellow River. In order to make it convenient to see the Yellow River in the morning, we chose a hotel where we could sleep with the sound of the Yellow River-Hukou Inn. It is incomparable with the previous hotel, but it is expensive to see the Yellow River when you open the door. Following the positioning, we drove past the visitor center and then went forward for about 3.5 kilometers before arriving at the inn. The sister of the inn is very nice. When we asked if there was dinner here? She smiled and said, why didn't we finish dinner outside before coming in. We could only ask if there was instant noodles. We all thought that we would be severely knocked by the scenic inn, but the instant noodles in the barrel were only sold for 4 yuan. There is also a Huanglong Temple on the other side of the inn. It is much smaller than the temples we saw in the previous two days, but it happens to be along the Yellow River. It is indeed a place for rest.



People who stayed at Hukou Inn were trying to figure out how to get to Hukou Waterfall from dusk to the next morning. After all kinds of exploration, it turned out that the advantage here is that if you go down the road on the left side of the scenic area, you can walk to the road of the scenic area by a little step. If you stay at the inn at night, you don't have to take the shuttle bus of the scenic area, which can save 10-20 yuan. I thought there was no special railing at the entrance of the scenic area to prevent tourists from getting free tickets, but a smiling sister came to greet us and scanned the QR code after buying the ticket. The scenic area here opens at 7:30 in the morning.



If you ask if you can walk directly into the scenic area along the riverbed? Then it can be confirmed that Hukou Waterfall must be walked over a bridge. From 7:30 in the morning to the end of the night, the scenic area staff will pull up the iron gate on the bridge and lock it. The Yellow River is too wide to pass during the flood season. If you try to pass through the riverbed during the dry season, there are certain safety hazards. In order to save 100 yuan in tickets, if there is a safety problem, it is really not worth it. Drive 3.5 kilometers away from Hukou Waterfall, there are many restaurants not far from the tourist center. You can order a large carp from the Yellow River. My wife said that this is the most delicious dish in the past few days. You may wish to try it.

Hukou Waterfall is located at the junction of Ji County, Linfen City, Shanxi Province and Yichuan County, Yan'an City, Shaanxi Province. It is the only golden waterfall on the Yellow River and the second largest waterfall in China.

After we exited the highway exit of the viaduct, we descended more than 100 meters to the Yellow River. We parked the car at the entrance parking lot and walked into the scenic area.



The Hukou Waterfall of the Yellow River has two different scenic spots, one in Shaanxi and the other in Shanxi. This time we are traveling in Shanxi and Henan, so we will not cross the Yellow River to Shaanxi. In fact, I have vaguely heard that the Hukou Waterfall is more spectacular from the Shanxi side.

Hukou Waterfall is located in the canyon between Shaanxi Province and Shanxi Province. The Yellow River water converges rapidly here and then falls into a high and deep pool.

Hukou Waterfall can be visited in the scenic area of Ji County, Shanxi Province, or in the scenic area of Yichuan County, Shaanxi Province. It is recommended to visit it in Shanxi because you can see the entire waterfall from a very close distance.

The Hukou Waterfall Scenic Area consists of two scenic spots: the Yellow River Hukou Waterfall in Hukou Town, Ji County, Linfen City, Shanxi Province, and the Yellow River Hukou Waterfall in Hukou Township, Yichuan County, Yan'an City, Shaanxi Province. The service is quite satisfactory. This kind of scenic spot is generally similar, but it is worth going. It is recommended to repair the parking lot because there is too much dust when the wind blows.

I went there in winter. To enter the Hukou Waterfall from the scenic area, you need to take a bus 🚍, and then stop in front of a messy market. Everyone got off the bus to see the waterfall. The huge wind blew up the soil all over the sky. Many places were frozen in winter. The waterfall was really spectacular. Just like what is written in the poem, the water of the Yellow River comes from the sky, rushes to the sea and never comes back.

But other than that the experience can only be described as terrible... I also bought a tiger pillow in the market with its belly stuffed with dead leaves and rotten plastic bags.

The most prominent feeling is that there are too many people, but of course the scenery is amazing.

It's best to wear a raincoat because there's too much moisture there and it's easy to get your clothes dirty.

In the summer when the water volume is high, Hukou Waterfall is magnificent; in winter, the entire water surface is frozen, forming a rare huge icefall. Hukou Waterfall is located in the southern section of the Qinjin Gorge, about 65 kilometers south of Longmen and 5 kilometers from Mengmen.

The show can be watched in about half an hour, and it is magnificent during the flood season. It is worth seeing.

The west side of the Yellow River Hukou Waterfall is Shaanxi, and the east side is Shanxi. The Shanxi side is more highly rated, so I chose to buy a ticket from the Shanxi side. The ticket was ￥100 and the sightseeing bus was ￥20. I took the 15:40 bus from Yan'an South Station to the Hukou Waterfall Scenic Area and stayed overnight. The next day at 7 o'clock, I entered the scenic area from the Shanxi side to see the Hukou Waterfall. I asked the locals and found out that there are three buses back to Yan'an. There is only one bus from Xi'an at about 1 pm. The bus to Jixian is around 9 am (￥10). There is no bus to Yichuan, so you need to charter a car for ￥150. The visiting time is about one and a half hours. Because I didn't want to go back to Yan'an and wanted to leave from Shanxi, I met the I took a black car (a white commercial vehicle, the master from Shanxi was named Feng), and he said he would share a ride back to Jixian for ￥30 but I had to wait for two guests from Henan. In fact, this was a trick of this master Feng. He deliberately took me to the Qilangwo Yellow River Bridge to see if he could share a ride with other guests and leave first. In fact, he wanted to avoid the only bus back to Jixian. When I found out, it was too late and the bus had left. I had to get off and go back to the bridge head to wait for other cars. This master Feng immediately asked a taxi that was carrying passengers back to Jixian and told me that it would only cost ￥40 to take me and leave immediately. In fact, he made ￥20 and the taxi master made ￥20. The ride back to Jixian is about 35 kilometers. Don't believe the lies of black cars when you go out.

I suggest you join a tour group. If you have enough time, you can choose a two-day tour and visit Yan'an. It is worth a visit. You can also buy some Luochuan apples when you come back.

I'm going to drive during the National Day holiday and have made many plans, hoping to go to Hukou.

I had already stayed in Linfen the night before going to Hukou. I was disappointed to hear that the Shanxi side was closed. Later, I searched the news and found that the Shaanxi side was still open, so I happily went there.

The drive from Linfen was 2 hours, the road was smooth, basically at cruise control, 80 on mountain roads and 120 on flat roads.

We queued at the door for half an hour. Fortunately, I asked my wife to queue up for tickets in advance, so the queues for the bus and tickets only took 30 minutes.

The parking lot is huge. If you park far away, it will take 5 minutes to walk to the ticket office.

Tickets need to be exchanged on site, and you cannot enter directly using a QR code or text message. In addition, you need to purchase a shuttle bus for 40 yuan per person.

If you are lucky, you can sit in the first row above the driver when taking the bus, which feels great.

The shuttle bus only takes about 10 minutes along the Yellow River. There is actually not much to see in this section. If you want to see it, you can go towards Hancheng, where there is a sightseeing route along the Yellow River.

When I arrived at Hukou Waterfall, I didn't feel it was particularly shocking. It might be because I had too high expectations due to many people's shocking descriptions, or maybe the high water level resulted in a small drop in height, or maybe the Shaanxi side was not as spectacular as the Shanxi side.

The waterfall is not a straight line, but a C or L shape. Therefore, from the Shaanxi side, you can face part of the waterfall directly and the other part from the side. I believe that from the Shanxi side, you can face the entire waterfall directly. Moreover, there seems to be a dragon cave on the Shanxi side from which you can look up at the waterfall.

However, due to the high water level, many observation platforms on the west side of the mountain have been submerged. In fact, part of the mountain on the Shaanxi side has also been submerged, but it has not affected the higher locations.

There were no shows on the big stage behind the waterfall, which was a pity.

The child felt that many donkeys there were being abused and being ridden to take photos to make money, and she was very unhappy.

Due to time constraints, we made an exception and had a meal in the scenic area. Not only did we have to shout when talking face to face (the hawking loudspeakers were super loud), but it was also the first time in my life that I had eaten unpalatable cold noodles, and it was my first meal after entering Shaanxi. I was speechless.

On the way back, there was a long bus queue, it was crowded and the scheduling was chaotic. Although we didn't say a word, many passengers on the bus kept complaining about the chaotic management.

In short, how should I put it, it’s a check-in spot. Anyway, I won’t consider going there in the future, but maybe I can consider going to the west side of the mountain.

We took advantage of the National Day holiday to see the waterfall, but when we arrived at the destination, we were told that the scenic area was closed. It was a disappointment, so we had no choice but to find a local villager to take us to the highest observation deck, where we could see the beautiful scenery of the Hukou Point of the Yellow River from afar.

It's a nice river, but these idiots have lost their mood just to see the waterfall. The document says that due to the approaching flood season and National Day, special traffic control is implemented, and the detour is to Qinglan Expressway. For safety, why don't you let cars pass but pedestrians? Is it safe for pedestrians to pass? The Qinglan Expressway is blocked like a blood vessel in a cerebral thrombosis, and you still let people pass? The document issued on the 27th said that the control will be from 1st to 7th, but you didn't control it yesterday? How can the Yellow River give birth to so many weird things?

Although we went there in October, which is the dry season of the Yellow River, the Yellow River is still roaring, and the Hukou Waterfall is full of momentum. The water column is not high, but the momentum is huge. It makes people reluctant to leave for a long time.

1. From September 17 to the Yan'an side of Hukou Waterfall, the scenic area will close at 7 pm. The ticket office will remind you on September 1 that the sightseeing area will be smaller due to the coming flood season.

2. The west side of Hukou Waterfall was announced to be temporarily closed on September 15, and the opening time is unknown. Few people can be seen on the other side of the river from the Shaanxi side.

3. The Shanxi side and the Shaanxi side are connected by a bridge near the scenic area. Tickets are purchased separately. The Shaanxi side ticket is 100 yuan per adult. There is a self-service ticket machine next to the ticket gate, which supports Alipay and WeChat. The sightseeing bus is 10 yuan per person round trip. If you have plenty of time, you can walk by yourself. The distance is not far.

4. It is recommended to wear shoes with non-slip soles. In addition to the well-maintained tourist trails, the closer you get to the Yellow River, the more stones and yellow mud there are.

5. Some friends mentioned in the reviews that there were mud spots in the fog, so they brought a raincoat and an umbrella with them, but they were not used. It is recommended to pay attention to the clothes of tourists before entering the scenic area, and wear them if there are mud spots.

6. It is very spectacular and worth seeing.

It had just rained heavily before we went there, so the water was turbulent and beautiful. Please remember to wear non-slip shoes, as slippers may get stuck in the mud and you can't get them out. There are mid-tube shoe covers for sale at the scenic spot. When you are close to the river, be careful to protect your camera and clothes, because the flying things are not water mist, but dust, the kind that can't be washed off.

The Hukou Waterfall is majestic and gives people a feeling of optimism and excitement. You must visit it on the way to Yan'an. This kind of scenery is unique in the country.

I don’t know if you had any impression of it before, but I had a good impression of it. However, I really didn’t expect that it was in Yan’an in northern Shaanxi. This may have surprised me.

The water flow this year was very strong, flooding the previous guardrails. The place got its name because many rivers converged here and shaped like a pot mouth. The water flow was really fast, and I felt seasick standing on the shore. The waterfall was divided into several vertical sections, although not very high, but it was already very spectacular, and the unique earthy smell of the Yellow River gave it a deterrent effect. After standing for a while, my body was covered with water droplets, which turned into yellow soil spots when they dried. The waves could turn white clothes into yellow clothes, which was amazing! After passing this terrain, the mother river became peaceful again, flowing slowly on the land of the motherland, unfathomable...

It took more than 5 hours to drive from Xi'an to Hukou Waterfall. When we arrived in mid-August, the flood season had passed, the riverbed was dry, and the waterfall was not as spectacular as it was during the flood season.

When I left, I saw waves of tourists appearing on the other side of Hukou. Later, I learned that the Yellow River is the boundary between Shaanxi and Shanxi, and the tourism resources of Hukou are shared by the two provinces. You can enter Shaanxi to visit Hukou, or you can go to Taiyuan, Shanxi. (Note: Xi'an to Hukou is 310 kilometers, and Taiyuan to Hukou is 376 kilometers.)

The group meal was extremely unpalatable. I strongly recommend not to spend the money. Don't listen to the tour guide saying that all the places to eat in Xi'an are closed at night! That's impossible! Bring your own food! The whole tour took about 3 hours in total, and the rest of the time was spent in the car. We returned to the Xi'an Bell Tower at 9:30 pm.
