The Mengshan Giant Buddha, also known as the Xishan Giant Buddha, is located in Sidi Village, southwest of Taiyuan City. It is a cliff-carved Buddha behind the Kaihua Temple on Mengshan Mountain. It was carved during the Tianbao period of the Northern Qi Dynasty and is the earliest large-scale stone-carved Buddha statue in the world. Emperor Gaozu of the Tang Dynasty, Li Yuan, Emperor Gaozong of the Tang Dynasty, Li Zhi and Empress Wu Zetian, Emperor Wu of the Later Tang Dynasty, Li Keyong, and Emperor Gaozu of the Later Han Dynasty, Liu Zhiyuan, all came here to worship the Buddha. At the end of the Yuan Dynasty, the Mengshan Giant Buddha was destroyed. It was not until 1980 that the Mengshan Giant Buddha was rediscovered, but the Buddha's head was missing, and the Buddha's body was buried in the soil and rocks, and was severely weathered. Since then, relevant units have protected and developed the Buddha, and a new 12-meter-high Buddha head was built with reference to the Northern Qi Buddha head unearthed in Taiyuan.

According to ancient books, the height of the Mengshan Giant Buddha is 59 meters. According to actual measurements, the height from the bottom of the legs to the neck of the Mengshan Giant Buddha is about 30 meters. It is estimated that the original Buddha head was about 10 meters high. Combined with the 6-meter-high base added during the later reconstruction, the original height of the Mengshan Giant Buddha was about 46 meters.

There is no entrance fee to the Mengshan Giant Buddha, but the journey to the scenic area is quite long and you need to take an environmentally friendly car for 10 yuan.

These two towers next to each other are called "Lianli Towers". They were built in the first year of Chunhua in the Northern Song Dynasty, more than a thousand years ago. They are single-story brick towers with four sides, about 11 meters high. The two towers have the same shape and are called "Lianli Towers" because they are connected at the bottom of the base. They are two tomb towers: the lintel of the south tower is inscribed with "Incarnation Buddha Relics Tower", and the north tower is inscribed with "Dingguang Buddha Relics Tower". Although the two towers have been severely weathered over the years, their former handsome appearance can still be seen, which shows the fine construction level at that time and the legacy of the Tang and Song dynasties.

The scenery along the way is still very beautiful, and the key point is that there are few tourists. Because it is in a semi-developed state, there are many primitive things, less glitz, and it is very pleasing to the eye. There is the tranquility of Buddhism and the quiet beauty here. Buddha, temples, and pagodas are integrated.

The hotel was booked in Xiaodian District, not far from the Mengshan Giant Buddha. I was tired the day before and went to bed early. I got up very early the next day. It took 15 minutes to drive here, and it was just after 9 o'clock when I arrived. The Mengshan Giant Buddha was built during the Tianbao period of the Northern Qi Dynasty. It has a history of about 1,500 years. It is the largest cliff Buddha and Buddhist pavilion in the Northern Dynasties of China.

As soon as you enter the scenic area, you can see the figure of the Buddha, but it takes more than an hour to actually reach the feet of the Buddha. The Buddha's quiet and peaceful face guides us all the way to approach him. The whole Buddha and the mountain are integrated. The Buddha is the mountain and the mountain is the Buddha. Standing at the foot of the Buddha and looking up at his calm face, I suddenly feel that the ups and downs of life are not worth mentioning. For more than a thousand years, he has witnessed the glory of the heyday and tasted the loneliness of being buried in the world. The Buddha still looks calm and composed. The Buddha has experienced eight hundred years of glory since its excavation. It was destroyed in the war at the end of the Yuan Dynasty. The Buddha's body was damaged and the head collapsed. There is no record of the Mengshan Buddha in any history book. It has lost its voice in history and has become an unsolved case. Six hundred years later, in the 1980s, Wang Jianni, a civil servant who participated in the Taiyuan place name census, took the trouble to find the traces of the Buddha, and only then did the Mengshan Buddha, which had been lost in history, reappear in the world.

A stone Buddha located in Mengshan, Taiyuan is the second largest stone Buddha in my country, the first being the Leshan Giant Buddha.

I heard that it was free before, but now it is charged. The mountain is not high and you can climb it! The key is that there was no sun when I went there

By Who is in charge of the ups and downs? |

I bought it on Meituan for 34 yuan. It's still under construction. I heard that they started charging tickets in 2017. I think I'll just go there for a spring outing. I went there just to climb the mountain. I bought a ticket to the Big Buddha, which is about 3 kilometers. There's nothing to see on the way. The road has been repaired. There's construction on the top of the mountain. Only Shuanglin Temple and the Big Buddha are worth seeing. The ticket doesn't seem worth it.

By Sunshine on the other side |

One of the few attractions I don't recommend. The only thing I saw at the end of the walk was a big Buddha on the top of the mountain. It looked like a layer of flesh had been shaved off, and it was skinny and bony, very miserable and desolate. In addition, the introduction to the Buddha said that the Buddha's head had been lost for hundreds of years, and this one was rebuilt. Just thinking about it makes people shudder. Here's a picture for you to feel it...

By Nagashino |

It is quite far from the city, and you have to take a black taxi to get there. The surrounding villages are being demolished, the roads are very difficult to travel on, and there are very few tourists. Fortunately, the scenic spot did not disappoint me.

Very beautiful! Great design, perfect for a Buddha worship tour

By Uncle Die |

It was an unplanned trip. The scenic spot was closed for renovation for several months and just opened. I didn't expect it to be so relaxing and comfortable. I took a tour bus from the entrance of the scenic spot to the foot of the mountain. After worshiping the Buddha, it took two hours to go back and forth. There are iron Buddhas in Kaihua Temple, pagodas from the Song Dynasty, murals from the Ming Dynasty, and the routes that Wu Zetian and Li Yuan walked to worship. The scenic spot is still under construction, with good planning and not strong commercial flavor. Incense at the foot of the Buddha is free. The narrator Xiao Zhu has just been on the job for three days. Although she has average physical strength for climbing mountains, she is very dedicated and has comprehensive knowledge. Thank her.

By Chen Xiaohei who loves traveling |

There are 2 tour routes, the upper one is yellow and the lower one is red. The yellow route has cave dwellings, mountain streams, and food stalls; the red route has twin towers, temples, and thousand-year-old walnut trees. Even if you don't believe in Buddhism or see Buddha, as a free attraction, it is still very good in all aspects.

By Playing around |

The Mengshan Giant Buddha is quite spectacular and the environment is also pretty good. It is worth a visit. It is recommended to take a tour bus.

This is a newly developed scenic spot. The big Buddha head is said to be a later replacement because the previous one was stolen. The scenery is good, and the scenic spot service is still being improved.

Currently, the Mengshan Giant Buddha is closed for road construction, so I can only pay the fare from the foot of the mountain and take a taxi from the back mountain to the side of the Buddha to view it.

I arrived at the Mengshan Giant Buddha parking lot at about 7:30. The scenic area parking lot was under renovation. All parking was parked in the temporary parking lot opposite. It was a small forest. Every two small trees directly had a parking space, which was quite good. I felt a little sorry for these small trees. The parking fee was 10 yuan/car/time. The scenic area is free, and you can enter even if you come early, but to see the Buddha, you must first go to Sidi Village. It is about 3.5 kilometers from the entrance of the scenic area to Sidi Village. There are sightseeing buses for round trips at 12 yuan per person, and one-way trips are only 6 yuan per person down the mountain. If you go early, you can only go up the mountain by yourself. It took about an hour to get to Sidi Village, pass through the production team, pass through the forest Mengshan Oxygen Bar, and go up a 30-meter staircase to see the Buddha in a relatively complete manner.

On the way back to Taiyuan from Jin Temple, we will pass by the Mengshan Giant Buddha. I got off the bus on a sudden impulse and decided to go there. In 2016, it was still free. The scenic spot did not charge admission. Only the small transportation buses in the scenic spot required tickets. The discovery of this giant Buddha is also quite legendary. It is taller than the Leshan Giant Buddha and is worth seeing.

There is no charge for the scenic area. You can enter the scenic area by electric car, which costs 12 yuan per person. It is very nice to climb the scenic area when the weather is good. It is said to be hundreds of years earlier than the Leshan Giant Buddha!

From Taiyuan Railway Station to Changfeng Parking Lot, it seems to be the edge of Taiyuan City. Take bus No. 58 to Mengshan Giant Buddha Station. This bus is very rare. The first bus No. 58 in the morning was not dispatched until 8:30, and there were only 7 passengers on the bus. There was only a single pole at the bus stop, and no seats. We stood there for an hour. When we got to the station, we took a battery car for 15 yuan, and had to change to a taxi for 5 yuan to see the Buddha. The Buddha's body was too vicissitudes and blurred, but fortunately the Buddha's head was newly built, so it finally looked like a real Buddha. There are not many supporting landscapes around, so-so! So no entrance fee is charged.

By Shadows Flying |

The price is cheap, worth a visit, and it is close to the city.

By Tata Dance God |

There is no ticket for the Mengshan Giant Buddha. There is only one round trip electric car, which costs 12 yuan per person and 6 yuan one way. Young people may consider not taking it. After getting off the electric car, you can climb the mountain by yourself. In the middle, someone will tell you that it is far and you can pay to take his private car. Personally, I don’t recommend taking it. There are steps on the way, and they are not very high. If you don’t need to burn incense, you don’t have to reach the foot of the Buddha statue to see it up close.

I went to the Mengshan Giant Buddha for the first time in 2010 and it was a great experience. The whole scenic area is shaded by trees, the air is fresh, a stream is winding, and there is a big Buddha in the distance. Away from the noisy city, the whole family enjoyed the rare tranquility here and had a lot of fun. I came again in 2015, and it was no longer as peaceful as before. Tourists were everywhere, and there were many vendors. It was very chaotic everywhere, just like some famous tourist places that are becoming more and more commercialized. Fortunately, the big Buddha is still there, and the stream is still clear. It is still worth a visit for tourists who have not been here.

The Mengshan Giant Buddha is located in the west of Taiyuan, near Tianlong Mountain. The Mengshan Giant Buddha was built during the Southern and Northern Dynasties, about 1,500 years ago. Due to long-term weathering, the Buddha's body is severely deformed, and the Buddha's head was reinstalled because it was missing, which feels a bit inconsistent. The Mengshan Giant Buddha scenic spot has not been fully developed, so no entrance fee is charged. Only the villagers set up a checkpoint at the main intersection, and one car pays 20 yuan. Because it is on the Mengshan Mountain, there is no other means of transportation to reach it except self-driving. It takes about 20 minutes to drive to Mengshan along the winding mountain road. After arriving at the Mengshan Giant Buddha scenic spot, you can take a battery car to go up the mountain, or you can walk up the mountain for half an hour. This time we chartered a villager's car and took us to the foot of the Mengshan Giant Buddha. The Mengshan Giant Buddha is still under construction, and incense, candles, flowers and tributes are placed in front of the Buddha. Close to the Mengshan Giant Buddha are Kaihua Temple and Iron Buddha Hall. The Iron Buddha is said to have been built in the Tang Dynasty and has a history of a thousand years. The mountain scenery near the Mengshan Giant Buddha is beautiful, and it is a good place to go outdoors and pursue historical relics.

Not far from the Jinci Scenic Area, the Buddha is built on a mountain. The entrance fee is free, but if you don't want to walk, you can take a shuttle bus up. The shuttle bus stops 1 km away from the Buddha. The road up the mountain is very easy to walk, but the instructions for the scenic area are not clear.

There is no entrance fee for the Mengshan Scenic Area, but it feels a bit rip-off to take the electric car into the scenic area. It is less than 2 kilometers from the entrance to the electric car terminal. The round-trip electric car ticket seems to be more than ten or twenty yuan, I forgot. There are no one-way tickets, so you have to buy a round-trip ticket. Personally, I think it is better to walk directly to the Giant Buddha at the entrance of the scenic area, and there is no need to take the electric car.

It is still some distance from the battery car terminal to the Big Buddha. The scenery along the way is very nice. It was autumn when I went there, and the ground was covered with yellow leaves. For me, a person living in the south where it is green all year round, it was really beautiful.

The Buddha was discovered in 1980. The Buddha's body was original, but severely weathered, and the Buddha's head was missing. In 2007, the Buddha was reinforced and a new Buddha head was built...

By I haven't thought about it yet. |

The tickets were free when I went there in 2014. I took the electric car to the middle of the mountain. The air was very good and the scenery was great. I usually hate catkins, but the air humidity was more comfortable in the mountains, and the catkins made it look very romantic. There is a big Buddha on the top of the mountain, which is quite spectacular.

The Mengshan Giant Buddha is located in Sidi Village, Jinyuan District, Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. You can take bus No. 5, No. 839, etc. to get there. After getting off the bus, enter the tourist area. The ticket is free. You can climb up by yourself, or take a small van at the foot of the mountain, 5 yuan per person. I personally recommend going up the mountain by yourself. The mountain is not very high, and it takes about 40 minutes to get up. After climbing for more than 20 minutes, there will be a place similar to the residence of Shanxi merchants. It is a resting place for tourists and a snack center. After resting, there are arrows to guide the route of the Mengshan Giant Buddha. Walk 50 meters and there is a doorway with Kaihua Temple. Don't hesitate to go up the stairs. The scenery on that road is better. There is a place for praying on it, and there is a peach tree that is hundreds of years old, praying for marriage. Keep walking along the road and you will reach the foot of the Buddha. There is a place for incense here. You can worship and get some incense. But I have to say that the quality of the vendors over there is really limited, and the words of piety are unbearable to hear. Okay, let's get back to the point. After worshipping at the foot of the Buddha, there is a staircase on the right. Going up is the Mengshan Giant Buddha, which is 58 meters high, with a body of 47 meters and a new head of 12 meters. Just worship the Buddha with a pious heart. After worshiping, there is a dirt road on the left on the way back, and you can go down the mountain by following it.

The style of the Buddha statue combines the artistic styles of the Northern and Southern Dynasties and is of great historical research value.

It is a very suitable place to play and cool off in the summer. Take the children to the scenic area car up the mountain. After about 15 minutes of walking, you can see the head of the Mengshan Giant Buddha. The mountain stream flows on the road, and it is particularly cool under the shelter of the big trees. Groups of children took water guns and fought each other. The clarity and coolness of the mountain spring water make you particularly comfortable. It takes about 30-50 minutes to climb to the top of the mountain. It depends on your physical strength. People who come here for the first time will become more and more energetic as they look forward to the Buddha. It is necessary to burn incense and kowtow to the Buddha after reaching the top of the mountain.

The entrance fee to Mengshan Scenic Area is free, but you need to take a battery car after entering the mountain gate for 12 yuan per person. Of course, if you are energetic, you can also walk.

The Mengshan Giant Buddha was first built during the Tianbao period of the Northern Qi Dynasty, more than 1,500 years ago. The Mengshan Giant Buddha was built more than 100 years earlier than the Leshan Giant Buddha. Unfortunately, the Buddha was destroyed in the late Yuan Dynasty and the Buddha's head disappeared. Today's Buddha head was rebuilt in the late 1980s.

Mengshan is about 20 kilometers southwest of Taiyuan. The main peak is 1,325 meters high. The dawn moon over Mengshan is one of the eight scenic spots in old Taiyuan. Kaihua Temple is at the foot of Mengshan. Many parts are newly built. The Mengshan Giant Buddha can be seen from a long distance. The Buddha is 67 meters high, 9 meters shorter than the Leshan Giant Buddha in Sichuan. The Mengshan Giant Buddha sits cross-legged, unlike the Leshan Giant Buddha who sits with straight legs. Maybe the Mengshan Giant Buddha is taller than the Leshan Giant Buddha when he stands up! Only the Buddha head is new.

The scenery of Mengshan Scenic Area is different in each season. It just snowed when I went there, which was different from the feeling of visiting here in summer. Mengshan, covered with snow, looks particularly quiet and peaceful under the winter sun. You can burn incense and worship Buddha on the mountain, or make a vow of love under the Lianli Pagoda. But I would like to remind everyone that the price of buying incense on the mountain will be high. If you plan to worship Buddha, you should buy it in advance, which will save some money.

You can take bus No. 58 from Luocheng to the entrance of the scenic area, but it is quite far from the Big Buddha. You need to take the scenic area battery car for 12 yuan round trip. In addition to the Big Buddha, there is also the Lianli Pagoda worth seeing.

The scenic area is getting better and better, and there are many local specialties that can be eaten at the farmers' house. It is an ideal place for foodies.

The trip to Mengshan is very good, better than Longshan and Tianlongshan. The scenic area is free of charge, there are no illegal taxis, and the whole journey is shuttled by battery cars, which only costs 6 yuan per trip, which is not expensive. But I chose to walk. In addition to the Big Buddha, there are also temples, which is great!

This is a relatively new scenic spot in Taiyuan. It has just been developed and there are not many public supporting facilities. The natural original appearance is relatively well preserved. It is very suitable for climbing the mountain together in your spare time~

The scenic spot does not charge admission tickets, but you can choose to take a tour bus up the mountain, which costs 12 yuan round trip.

It is advisable to visit the Mengshan Giant Buddha and the Jin Temple on one day, first to the Mengshan Giant Buddha (estimated to take 2 to 3 hours, including the time to walk to and from the scenic area from Luocheng Station), and then to the Jin Temple Museum (the 308 bus may be crowded and unable to get on the return trip).

Turning to the road leading to the Big Buddha, we soon saw the Big Buddha. It was not as big as we had imagined, and we were not shocked. We took photos on the altar and continued to climb up. It was 12:33 when we arrived at the "Mengshan" stone tablet at the foot of the Big Buddha. We continued to take photos here. The head of the Big Buddha was installed later, and it looked too new, and it did not match the body.

The road from the entrance of the scenic area to the scenic spot is still very long, and the scenery along the way is relatively simple. It is recommended to take the scenic area's eco-friendly bus, which will be easier to walk down. It is written that you are not allowed to buy a one-way ticket when buying a scenic area ticket at the foot of the mountain. You can buy a one-way ticket down the mountain at the parking lot on the mountain. There are female monks in the small temple opposite the parking lot on the mountain. There are bell and drum towers on both sides of the temple gate, and the brick carvings on the roof are very exquisite. The building of Kaihua Temple is like a cave. There is no temple inside. Here is the concentration of food and drink in the scenic area. Passing through Kaihua Temple, there are many photos of educated youth on the wall for nostalgia. The big Buddha is not as big as imagined, and I don’t feel shocked. The head of the big Buddha was installed later, and it looks too new and doesn’t match the body. There is no ticket for the scenic area. For more details, please see http://www.mafengwo.cn/i/3169189.html

It's not fun, but there's really nowhere to go. Climbing a mountain and worshipping Buddha is a good itinerary. The Buddha statue is nice, but the newly added Buddha head really spoils the view. Can't it be made a little more professional and retro?

Mengshan, I was shocked by the wisdom and ingenuity of the people at that time, and I never get tired of going there. There is a natural oxygen bar, very cool!

I like the feeling of being on the mountain, the natural oxygen bar, the green trees, everything is good

On the way to Jin Temple, we unexpectedly visited the Mengshan Giant Buddha, which is comparable to the Tongle Mountain. This attraction is free and worth visiting.

There is no entrance fee for the Mengshan Giant Buddha yet, but the round trip electric car costs 12 yuan, which is not bad! Get off the electric car and walk on the tree-lined avenue to breathe in some oxygen! There are many children laughing along the way. This is indeed a good place for family outings on weekends.

The Mengshan Giant Buddha is known as the second tallest Buddha in China. It is only about 10 meters lower than the Leshan Giant Buddha. We did not climb up, but viewed it from a distance and did not think it was that high. It may be due to visual reasons.

By traveling alone |

The scenic spot does not charge admission, has convenient transportation, complete supporting facilities, first-class service, profound historical significance, good green vegetation, and is a good place for weekend leisure.

The Internet recommends Jin Temple and Shanxi Museum as must-sees in Taiyuan. I would also like to recommend a scenic spot - Mengshan Giant Buddha. This place is still hidden in the mountains and unknown to people. There is no entrance fee, but it does not mean that it is not worth visiting. In terms of historical sites, there are the twin towers of Kaihua Temple built in the Northern Song Dynasty, the world's earliest and second tallest Buddha. In terms of scenery, there is the peach garden in front of Kaihua Temple, the natural oxygen bar under the Giant Buddha Mountain, and the pear forest on the way down the mountain. I think it should be a great choice for flower viewing and summer vacation after the spring.

The Mengshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area is a national 4A scenic area, but it does not charge admission. I can only sigh that the people of Shanxi are honest. Since the Mengshan Giant Buddha is not well-known and it is winter, there are very few tourists. Take bus No. 58 at Changfeng parking lot to Mengshan Scenic Area, and then take a battery car or walk for 30-40 minutes to reach the scenic area. What I want to say is that if you have time and the weather is good, I suggest you walk to the scenic area. Why is that? Again, it feels great.

The giant Buddha, which was carved into the mountain, has a history of more than 1,600 years. Its head has been rebuilt, and its body has been seriously damaged, but it is still very imposing.

At the end of the oxygen bar, you can see the real face of the Buddha. It looks so tall from below. The Buddha statue is very kind. It is 67 meters long, 9 meters shorter than the Leshan Giant Buddha in Sichuan (the Leshan Giant Buddha is 76 meters tall and sits with straight legs). This Buddha statue is also sitting, but with curled legs. There are steps on both sides of the Buddha statue for tourists to walk up and worship up close. The air in the mountains is really good, and it is full of green everywhere. The Buddha sits peacefully in the mountains, blessing the people of this land.

We went to a place that was not highly recommended in travel guides but was very cost-effective: Mengshan Giant Buddha.

It was built 162 years earlier than the Leshan Giant Buddha. Although it is not as famous as the former, its level of refinement is worthy of praise. In addition, it is free to visit.

The Mengshan Giant Buddha was first carved in the second year of Tianbao (551) by Emperor Wenxuan of the Northern Qi Dynasty, Gao Yang, and was completed during the reign of Emperor Gao Wei, who took five emperors more than 20 years to complete. When it comes to cliff-carved Buddhas, people will think of the world-renowned Leshan Giant Buddha in Sichuan.
