On the brick-carved screen wall opposite the gate, there is a picture of "One longevity becomes a hundred longevities" composed of 100 different styles of "longevity" characters, which is a rare work of art.
On the top floor of the compound hangs a plaque with the words "Fu Zhong Lang Ji", which was a gift from Empress Dowager Cixi to the governor of Shanxi.

It is also the filming location for more than 30 film and television works such as "Raise the Red Lantern" and "Qiao Family Courtyard".

Arriving at the edge of Qiaojiabao Village, the buildings of Qiao Family Compound come into view. The first thing you see is the open square in front of the compound. Behind the tall archway, slender plant belts wrap around the pedestrian walkway. Although it lacks some green shade in winter, it adds bright stills, behind-the-scenes footage of films and TV series such as "Qiao Family Compound" and "Raise the Red Lantern", and the expressions of the characters in the dramas are so fascinating that you want to speed up your pace, integrate into this compound, and explore its charm.

The movie "Raise the Red Lantern" made me know Qiao's Courtyard, and the movie "Qiao's Courtyard" made everyone know Qiao's Courtyard. Generally, the first thing that outsiders know about Shanxi merchants is Qiao's Courtyard. Qiao's Courtyard is a magnificent building complex. Its exquisite design and fine craftsmanship reflect the unique style of Chinese residential architecture in the Qing Dynasty. It has a very high ornamental, scientific research and historical value. It is an unparalleled art treasure house and is called "a pearl of northern residential architecture". It is known as "the royal family has the Forbidden City, and the private residences look at Qiao's Courtyard". It is famous in Shanxi and well-known at home and abroad.

When it comes to scenic spots in Shanxi, Qiao Family Courtyard is a representative one. When you enter the gate of the scenic spot, you will first see a long road with many sculptures about Shanxi merchants on both sides of the road. When you walk to this wall, you will truly enter Qiao Family Courtyard.

Walking into the high-walled Qiao Family, you can see big red lanterns hanging high. At the end of the road, there are four particularly eye-catching red lanterns with the words "Qiao Family Courtyard" written on them. Red lanterns seem to be a standard feature of the Qiao Family Courtyard, but in fact, the original Qiao Family Courtyard did not have red lanterns, and the plot in the movie has nothing to do with the history of the Qiao Family. It was just that Zhang Yimou chose the Qiao Family Courtyard as the location for the film, and many red lanterns were hung during the filming. Later, after the filming of the movie was completed, they were not taken down, and it has been decorated like this since then.

It is more interesting to appreciate the architecture of Qiao Family Courtyard in combination with the history of Qiao Family. Qiao Family is a famous merchant family in Shanxi. As the saying goes, wealth cannot last for more than three generations, but Qiao Family is a family that has been rich for four generations. The children of Qiao Family strictly abide by the ancestral teachings and set up family rules, prohibiting whoring, gambling, taking concubines, and drinking. This is also an important reason for the long-term prosperity of Qiao Family business.

There are many buildings in Qiao Family Courtyard, but the most important one is the house with a plaque of "Zhongzhongtang". In fact, "Zhongzhongtang" is the real name of Qiao Family Courtyard. The name of this house was originally called Zhongzhongtang, and Qiao Family Courtyard is just a common name.

There are so many things in this house. After leaving Qiao's Courtyard, there is a very long commercial street, so long that you can't see the end. Various Shanxi specialties are sold here, and the prices are not expensive. You can consider buying them.

When we walk into the Qiao Family Courtyard, you will see the deep and long corridors, the simple and heavy gray brick walls, the rows of high-hanging red lanterns, and the layers of brackets and eaves. At this time, you will find that the reason why the Qiao Family Courtyard is so famous is not only because of its grandeur, but also because of its unique and exquisite architectural art.

In addition to these large buildings, strolling in the Qiao Family Courtyard, you will also see many exquisite crafts such as wood carvings, brick carvings, stone carvings, etc. Merchants had a relatively low status in ancient times, and plaques were what merchants used to show their status.

I heard from the tour guide that Zhang Yimou once chose Chang Family Courtyard as the filming location, but Chang Family Courtyard was unwilling to open to the public at that time. When Qiao Family Courtyard heard about it, they immediately invited them over, treated them to good food and drinks, and provided a filming base for free, so Qiao Family Courtyard became popular!

The main gate of Qiao Family Compound doesn’t seem like a main gate, and there are not even the four big words “Qiao Family Compound” on it.

Walking through the gate, it feels like entering a castle. Shanxi was indeed prosperous in the past. As the saying goes: rich! Strong! Qiao Family Courtyard! It is simply too luxurious! The architectural style is very grand.

There is a courtyard near the exit, which looks like a southern courtyard! It has a feeling of a small bridge, flowing water and a family home, but as soon as you see the festive red curtain across the bridge, you know it is a northern courtyard!

It is said that there are no four big words "Qiao Family Courtyard" on the main gate, but you can definitely see it at the exit!

After visiting Qiao's Courtyard, I specially watched the movie "Raise the Red Lantern", which tells the story of a wealthy family in the Republic of China. The four wives of Mr. Chen, the owner of the mansion, represent the four seasons. Gong Li plays the fourth concubine Songlian, who is fearless and has a sharp personality that leads to her final madness; Meishan is a woman of true temperament, but she died tragically because she couldn't stand loneliness; Zhuoyun is hateful and pathetic, and she schemed just to survive; the first wife has seen through everything, leaving only a soulless body; and the newly married fifth concubine symbolizes the beginning of a new cycle.

The courtyard is deep, and the low-key and deep orchid color is broken by the red of the lanterns. The lanterns, which were originally used to dispel darkness and bring light, have become bait for moths to fly into the fire; the red color, which originally symbolizes good luck, does not give people a sense of joy and celebration, but instead points to a hole that hides murderous intent. The deep corridor is the long loneliness of the rest of life.

Get up early and have a simple breakfast at the hotel. Walk outside the city to get a car and drive for 1 hour to Qiao Family Courtyard. The outer area is the new facilities of the scenic area. After a short walk, you will come to the official entrance of the courtyard. Please go to the tour guide, take photos at the door, and follow the tour guide sister along the tour route to visit this legendary courtyard of Shanxi merchants where Empress Dowager Cixi passed by and "Raise the Red Lantern" was filmed.

The explanation of Sister's House focuses on the design of each room and carvings; many places reflect the ancient literati's good wishes: bats represent many children and blessings, auspicious beasts represent good luck, more rules and so on.

My mother concluded that it was actually the house of a big landlord (actually a big merchant). We have it in the countryside too, but it is not used as a tourist attraction. It makes sense. Haha.

I think that more than a hundred years ago, the living environment in the houses of the rich and powerful families with many servants was really bad. The houses here are dark, narrow, and there is no view outside the windows.

After coming out, since the area around Qiao Family Courtyard is not in the urban area, we just had a simple lunch at a restaurant outside the scenic area and then drove to Wang Family Courtyard, 99 kilometers away.

The royal family has the Forbidden City, and the private residences are the Qiao family! The stone carvings, brick carvings, wood carvings, plaques, paintings, screen walls and other artistic masterpieces are rich in layers, profound in artistic conception, auspicious in meaning, and full of humanistic atmosphere. They have high artistic and scientific research value. In addition, the family style, family rules and family mottos of the Qiao family, which have been rich for six generations, are also worth our deep consideration.

Qiao Family Courtyard was built in 1756 and consists of "four halls and one garden", namely Zhongtang, Dexing Hall, Baoyuan Hall, Ningshou Hall and Qiao Family Garden, covering an area of more than 25,600 square meters.

By Zhao Yuyan |

Disadvantages: Qiao Family Courtyard is mainly influenced by film and television dramas. Its reputation and popularity are extremely high, and it was once very popular. However, the surrounding environment of Qiao Family Courtyard is very different from it, and the style is a bit abrupt. Although it is an isolated high-walled courtyard castle, entering the outer gate of the scenic area, you can never feel the sense of simplicity and elegance, and it has nothing to do with vicissitudes. Although it is a residential building, the overall feeling of Qiao Family Courtyard to me is a bit monotonous and cold, too clean, lacking vitality, and there is no trace of life. I can't feel the traces of having lived and used for hundreds of years. In addition, the layout and shape of each courtyard in Qiao Family Courtyard are basically similar, so the attractions are slightly monotonous.

It is a pity that the overall shape and main buildings of Qiao's Courtyard are well preserved, which is rare. As a family courtyard, its scale and preservation integrity are rare. It is also spectacular and worthy of careful appreciation by people who love ancient relics.

Very average, a bit disappointing, Wang Family Courtyard ticket is 55, Qiao Family Courtyard is still 115 after renovation, half price is not worth it. Except for the central hall, the other exhibitions are very meaningless, the tour guide I rented just read the script according to the scenic spot sign, the essence is not explained at all, and you can only listen to it once, it's over after listening, too poor. It is recommended to hire a tour guide, anyway, I'm here, I probably won't come again.

When you go to Shanxi, you must visit Qiao Family Courtyard, where you can learn about the history of Shanxi merchants!

By Mago Free Travel |

There are two types of tickets for Qiao Family Courtyard: full ticket and half ticket. The half ticket is 69 yuan, which only allows visitors to visit the Central Hall and Dexing Hall. The full ticket is 138 yuan, which allows visitors to visit all the attractions.

On the way here I was debating whether to buy a half-price ticket or a full-price ticket. But when I asked about buying the ticket, I was told that there were only full-price tickets, not half-price tickets.

Through the gate of the scenic area is the visitor center square. There are five groups of statues on both sides of the square. These ten statues, together with the two next to the "Qiao Family Courtyard" archway, constitute the entire history of the Qiao family from its rise to prosperity.

If you have been to Qiao's Courtyard, you will find that there is a large water tank in the middle of each courtyard. These water tanks are used for fire prevention.

By 🙏🙏SPRIT |

To be honest, the 138 yuan ticket is not worth it, it's too commercialized. The ticket sellers and service staff are indifferent. They think they owe you a few cents. What kind of quality is that?

By Fly Free |

It is well-known at home and abroad for the Raise the Red Lantern filmed by Zhang Yimou.

Typical Shanxi architecture, simple and elegant, among which the No. 2 courtyard has the most exquisite carvings. There are three treasures in the courtyard.

By The road is too long |

The royal family looked at the Forbidden City and the private residences looked at the Qiao family. From a distance it looked like a castle, with tall and wide earth-yellow walls. When you got closer you could see the tall courtyard walls and the plaques hanging high. It was truly magnificent.

Wood carvings, brick carvings, stone carvings, plaques, paintings, and the history of the Qiao family's rise are all displayed in detail in the house. There are so many things that you can't see them all. It's not an exaggeration to say that the so-called wealthy businessmen are as rich as a country. They may not be able to put down their money. Looking at them is admiration. The house is almost as big as the Forbidden City. The wealthy businessmen who unified the country and did business to this point also took the efforts of several generations. Looking at their origin to the end is a very glorious journey, very inspiring. Struggle

Look left and right, I feel like you don’t understand the world of rich people~

Qiao Family Courtyard is completely in vain, it is just a TV drama that made it popular. The place is not even as big as Wang Family Courtyard. The ticket price is half the price of 135. There are a few broken courtyards inside and nothing to visit. You have to check your student ID online before you can use it. I said I bought it directly in Pingyao Ancient City. The ticket seller was very arrogant and said that this is Qiao Family Courtyard, not Pingyao. I suggest going to Wang Family Courtyard. It is worth a visit and the ticket price is cheaper.

By Jin Shenle |

It looks quite ordinary. I guess people in the south don’t like this style.

In comparison, I always feel that the large courtyards of the wealthy families in Jiangnan, with flowers, grass, ponds and pavilions, are more beautiful.

By Fat Apricot |

The management is chaotic, but it is famous. The ticket price is 138, which I think is expensive even at a 50% discount.

By Ramon |

The most representative Jinshang Courtyard, there are many things to see inside, but the management is not good, there is not even a panoramic view of the scenic area. Moreover, part of it has not been repaired, and it is bundled with tickets, which is a bit of a rip-off.

By JE |

The overall layout is a Chinese character for "囍". The span of two hundred years was followed by the original conception, and the expansion was carried out in a consistent style. The overall building complex has a rigorous layout, with fully enclosed brick walls, tall and dark blue. The northwest trade winds of the Loess Plateau give it a yellowish earth color, solemn and ancient, even a little mysterious. The wall is three feet high, compressing the space inward. When you are in it, you will feel that there are rules for doing things and being a person, and the system is strict and cannot be offended; the central axis entrance screen wall is outside, and inside the door is a main passage of nearly 100 meters, with various courtyards on both sides. Each courtyard can be independent and connected through the main road. It is estimated that it was distributed according to the hierarchy at that time; the courtyards are stacked one after another, and you will be shocked and restrained when you enter the door for the first time. This may also be one of the results the owner wants; the back is the ancestral hall, stage and other activity venues, and so on. The entire building is exquisitely designed and finely crafted. It is a representative of Qing Dynasty dwellings and a carrier of Shanxi merchants' culture. It has a high ornamental value. Of course, it is also extremely important for historical and research value. In terms of construction technology, the wood carvings, brick carvings, stone carvings, paintings, eaves, etc. made by craftsmen all reflect an extraordinary level. Each one is similar yet innovative and unique. The layers of pavilions and terraces, and the various treasures hidden in them, some of which are truly unique in the world, also demonstrate the strength of the owner.

Zhongtang and Dexingtang are old, Baoyuantang and Ningshoutang were renovated later. So I chose Zhongtang and Dexing. The guide must be tested at the rental office before leaving. When the staff handed my guide to me, they said it was adjusted and I could listen to it directly. But after I entered the gate, there was no sound at all. I looked and found that it was not turned on at all. Fortunately, it was not turned on. If it was really broken, it would be inconvenient to go out and replace it.

Qiao Family Courtyard is a typical residence of a wealthy businessman in Shanxi. The layout of the courtyard is well-organized, which is in line with the ancient Feng Shui theory. The brick carvings in the courtyard left a deep impression on me, which makes people marvel at the ingenuity of the ancient craftsmanship.

After the tour, you can wait for the bus from Taiyuan to Pingyao on the roadside at the entrance of the scenic area. It costs 15 yuan to get to Pingyao Bus Station, which can be paid via WeChat. The bus station is very close to the ancient city and you can walk there.

As we got closer, we saw many new houses with antique style and flavor were built beside the compound. Maybe I am a person with a cleanliness obsession with ancient courtyards and towns, and I always hope that they can be preserved in their original flavor, and I hope that no other buildings will be added artificially. After spending a lot of money to get in, I was almost scared out of the door by the crowded crowd in the compound. But I felt bad about spending the money (it was too expensive), so I just took a casual walk around. The courtyard is deep and self-contained. The whole house is actually not very big, but the carved pavilions and galleries are full of luxury. It undoubtedly shows the strength of the Shanxi merchants at that time. The whole yard is strict and orderly, with obvious levels, which fully reflects the so-called family rule of the family at that time. Leaving the Qiao Family Compound, there is a feeling of escaping from the hustle and bustle,

After buying the ticket, walk through the long corridor to enter. It is a long distance of several hundred meters. If you don't want to walk, you can take a battery car to enter, which costs 5 yuan per person. After exiting, you have to walk to the shopping street on the other side, which is also a long distance.

You can look at the map. The focus here is the old house area "Zhongtang". The rest are newly built and renovated later.

The highlight here is of course the actual filming location of the movie: "Light Up".

Some of the props used in the filming of that year were also displayed.

The key point is that the design of the house is basically like this: a yard, a big house in the front, and two rows of rooms next to it, which are very symmetrical and neat.

Each room is equipped with many furnishings to ensure that guests will not be bored.

Some of these exhibits are worth seeing, and some of them introduce the history of the Qiao family.

Qiao Family Courtyard, also known as Zaizhongtang, is located in Qiaojiabao Village, Qi County, Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province. It is a 5A scenic spot. It was built in the 20th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1756). The entire courtyard is in the shape of a double "Xi" character, divided into 6 large courtyards, 20 small courtyards, 313 houses, covering an area of more than 8,000 square meters, with a construction area of 4,175 square meters, and facing the street on three sides. In 1991, Zhang Yimou's "Raise the Red Lantern" promoted Qiao Family Courtyard as the representative of Shanxi merchants' courtyards. In 2006, the TV series "Qiao Family Courtyard" was popular, which once again evoked people's memories of this Qing Dynasty house. In 2014, Qiao Family Courtyard was selected as a national 5A tourist attraction, further consolidating its position in the Shanxi tourism market.

The founder of the Qiao family in Qi County was Qiao Guifa, the grandfather of the main hall owner Qiao Zhiyong. His parents died early, and he went to the west alone when he was young. He worked hard in Baotou for 30 years and started as a small trader. Later, he founded the "Fushenggong" brand in Baotou. Therefore, there is a saying that "first there was Fushenggong, then there was Baotou City". After he became rich, Qiao Guifa began to build a lot of buildings in his ancestral home village Qiaojiabao. Qiao Guifa had three sons, Quanyi, Quande, and Quanmei. During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, Qiao Quanmei and his two brothers After the family split up, they bought several plots of land at the northeast corner of the crossroads and built buildings. This was the earliest courtyard of the Qiao Family Compound, also known as the Old Courtyard. After Qiao Zhiyong took over, he bought a large plot of land in the alley west of the Old Courtyard and built another building. He also built two quadrangles across the street from the two buildings, so that the four courtyards were located at the four corners of the intersection of the streets and alleys, laying the foundation for the later integrated structure. In the late Guangxu period, local security was unstable, and Qiao In order to protect the safety of the family, Jingyi and Jingyan of the Qiao family bought the right to occupy the street at that time, blocked the entrance of the alley, built the side yards of the northwest and southwest courtyards, blocked the entrance of the street on the east, built a gate, built a clan temple on the west, expanded the two-story courtyard on the north into two outer cross courtyards, built two new Wulang gates, with fences passing through the cross courtyards, and connected the north and south courtyards with arched gate tops to form a castle-like building complex; in the early years of the Republic of China (1912), the population of the Qiao family increased and housing seemed insufficient, so they bought land and expanded westward; after the tenth year of the Republic of China (1921), Qiao Yingxia and Qiao Yingkui built a new courtyard close to the southwest courtyard, with a layout similar to that of the southeast courtyard; in September 1938, unable to bear the harassment of the invading Japanese army, more than 60 people in the Zhongtang family left and took refuge in Ping and Tianjin. Now the remaining descendants mainly live in Beijing, Shanghai and Kunming, and a few are scattered in Liaoning, Haikou, Taiyuan and Datong.

The Qiao Family Courtyard, which is rich enough to rival a country, was given this name by later generations. Its real name is "Zhongzhongtang". It is said that the owner of this courtyard, Qiao Zhiyong, is rich enough to rival a country! Even Empress Dowager Cixi borrowed money from him! If you know his family rules, you will know the reason for his success: one, no drug use, two, no concubines, three, no servant abuse, four, no gambling, five, no outdoor activities, and six, no alcoholism. These seem simple to ordinary people, but it was difficult for rich families to do so at that time! He is an upright person! This reminds me that there is a rule of integrity in our class style. Only upright people can succeed, or if people are not upright, I think they will not even have a chance to succeed!

There were a lot of people trying to attract customers in the scenic area. We went there for lunch. The set meal included eight bowls and eight dishes and two bowls and two dishes. It was quite expensive, the quantity was small, and the taste was not good. I don't recommend eating nearby.

【Exploring the Ancient Silk Road on Land】

Since [Raise the Red Lantern], the ancient Qiao Family Courtyard has fascinated me [Holding fist] As the saying goes: (The royal family has the Forbidden City, and the common people look at the Qiao Family)! [Strong] The deep courtyard left by the legendary figure of a generation of Shanxi merchants has inspired future generations: prosperity will decline! Wealth cannot last for more than three generations... It's just the law of nature [Victory] Here, every architectural detail has knowledge! Reflecting your and my eyes...

On the way back to Taiyuan from Pingyao, you will pass by Qiao Family Courtyard. You can get off the bus and leave your luggage at the tourist center. After the tour, you can take a bus to Taiyuan on the roadside. It is very convenient. Qiao Family Courtyard, also known as Zhongtang, is located in Qiaojiabao Village, Qi County, Shanxi Province. It was built in 1756. The whole courtyard is in the shape of a double "Xi" character, divided into 6 large courtyards, 20 small courtyards, 313 houses, and a construction area of 4,175 square meters. It faces the street on three sides and is surrounded by a fully enclosed blue brick wall more than 10 meters high. The gate is a city gate cave-style. It is an ancient house with the traditional northern residential architectural style. It is known as "the royal family has the Forbidden City, and the private houses look at Qiao's."

Qiao Family Courtyard is the most famous, but not the best. Many TV series were filmed here!

The nearest station to Qiao's home is Taigu West Station, which is a small station with incomplete surrounding facilities. You can only take a taxi to Qiao's home. There are two taxi routes, one of which is under construction and cannot be used. The driver took a detour and the meter showed more than fifty yuan, but he charged fifty yuan. This is probably the market price. I didn't expect it to be higher, so I just let it go. Please pay attention to this.

I arrived at Qiao's Courtyard at about 12:30 pm, passing by the filming site of the TV series (another courtyard built to imitate Qiao's family). According to the driver, Qiao's Courtyard was contracted by two Guangdong people, so the ticket price doubled. Various hotels and resorts were being built around it. Anyway, it didn't look like a famous tourist attraction at all, but more like a construction site. The strong wind blew all over the sand. Friends had better bring hats, masks, sunglasses, etc. Because it was not a weekend or a holiday when I went there, there were not many people. You can buy tickets at the door through WeChat, which is three yuan cheaper than the ticket office. When you swipe your ID card inside, you can hire a tour guide to introduce the humanities, history, architecture, feng shui, etc. It's better than looking at it blindly. If you ask me what Qiao's Courtyard is like? I will tell you that it is good, big, square, and all made of green bricks and green tiles. It can be seen that this family is rich. It was a little after two in the afternoon when we came out of Qiao Family Courtyard, which means I spent about an hour and a half strolling around. It's true that I didn't visit it in great detail. The layout of each branch is similar, except for the purpose and furnishings. I haven't done much research on this. I only listened to one or two words from other tour guides occasionally, but I just swallowed them all in one gulp. Anyway, it's a good idea to visit here. If you have a special attachment to it, you can take a closer look.

My knowledge of Qiao Family Courtyard is limited to what I have seen on TV. I only know that it is the most well-preserved Shanxi merchant compound, and that it is a microcosm of the culture of generations of Shanxi merchants...

The mansion is large and deep, and movie and drama fans can come and check in.

Qiao Family Courtyard is one of the representatives of Shanxi courtyards. It is also famous for film and television works. You must go and see it when you come to Shanxi. It will not disappoint you. However, due to the existence of bugs like Wang Family Courtyard, I personally think that Qiao Family Courtyard is still inferior in terms of connotation, style, exquisiteness, and exquisiteness.

I went there on the fourth day of the Spring Festival. There were so many people that I couldn't see anything. I suggest going to another place, Wang's Courtyard. There were so many cars. It's not in the official parking lot. The parking lot is 20 yuan for the villagers outside. The scenery of the courtyards is actually the same. One word: crowded, crowded, crowded. I say it three times because it's important.

Qiao Family Courtyard, also known as Zaizhongtang, is located in Qiaojiabao Village, Qi County, Shanxi Province. It is a national 5A scenic spot and a national key cultural relic protection unit. It was built in 1756. The whole courtyard is in the shape of a double happiness, with a total construction area of 4,175 square meters. It is an ancient house with the architectural style of traditional northern folk houses. Qiao Family Courtyard exhibits more than 5,000 precious cultural relics, which reflect the folk customs mainly in Jinzhong, Shanxi.

My complex about Qiao Family Courtyard originated from the TV series Qiao Family Courtyard. Since there was no explanation, I was just searching for memories of the scenes and related tasks of Qiao Family Courtyard. The architecture is grand and simple. The lessons of the Qiao family and Qiao Zhiyong's character can be reflected in many corners of the "Zhongtang", which greatly deepened my understanding and feelings about this character, that era, and the Shanxi merchants at that time. Therefore, it is worth watching and feeling for those who have watched the TV series Qiao Family Courtyard.

Although there are many courtyards worth visiting in Shanxi, such as Wang's Courtyard and Chang's Manor, which are larger in scale, Qiao's Courtyard is the most famous and exquisite one.

The courtyard with big red lanterns hanging high is a place you will never get bored of. It is a national 5A scenic spot, and the surrounding environment has improved a lot. But it is best not to go there during holidays. Qiao's Courtyard is suitable for less people, so you can enjoy it slowly...

For details, please refer to my travel notes, which have a very detailed introduction: http://www.mafengwo.cn/i/7956567.html

After leaving Pingyao Ancient City, I had some time left, so I came to Qiao Family Courtyard to have a look. The buildings in the courtyard are very finely crafted, and the overall feeling is faintly domineering; but there are too many people here during holidays, so I can only follow the crowd to take a quick look, and I can't quietly experience the mood of the generation that dominated the business world back then; I will choose a non-holiday time to come again in the future.

Qiao Family Courtyard is a landlord's compound in Shanxi. It is well-known for the TV series of the same name, where Zhang Yimou's Raise the Red Lantern was filmed. It is a relatively well-preserved manor where you can experience the living environment of a wealthy family in the countryside during the Ming and Qing dynasties.

Although there are many courtyards worth visiting in Shanxi, and some of them are larger in scale like Wang Family Courtyard and Chang Family Manor, after visiting these famous courtyards, I still like the most famous and tourist-filled Qiao Family Courtyard the most.

The reason is simply that the courtyard with the most famous big red lanterns hanging high is so exquisite and perfect. The Chinese red is matched with the Chinese gray, supplemented by the simple and exquisite furnishings. No matter how long I stay, I will love it very much. This may also be why I have a special liking for ancient houses in Shanxi.

It is really not easy to take a photo without people in this yard. The chance is best in the last 10 minutes before closing.

In addition, in order to increase revenue, Qiao Family Courtyard built the Baoyuan Hall and Deshou Hall on the north side. These are newly built and have no attractions. Don't buy tickets for more than 100 yuan online. Just buy tickets for the central hall for more than 70 yuan on site.

I came here on October 1st, but was hurt by the serious air pollution. The air was filled with pungent smells of sulfur dioxide. I wonder if the Qi County government in Jinzhong knows how to cherish such a good historical and cultural heritage. What is the purpose of local planning? The brewery was built opposite the Qiao Family Courtyard, which looked very inconsistent. There were digging everywhere around the courtyard, the construction site was uncovered, and the road was seriously dusty. When I entered the door, I felt that the ancestors were crying. The people here don’t have to do anything except lying on the ancestors’ bodies to make money.

For royal families, see the Forbidden City; for private residences, see the Qiao family. The Qiao family was a leader among Shanxi merchants, and Qiao Zhiyong traveled extensively and “connected the world.” A 5A scenic spot worth recommending.

By Life Traveler |

Qiao Family Courtyard became popular due to the broadcast of the TV series "Raise the Red Lantern", which made everyone know that there is such a place in Shanxi! The royal family looks at the Forbidden City, and the private residence looks at the Qiao Family Courtyard. This sentence is enough to show the status of Qiao Family Courtyard! Shanxi merchants have played an important role in history and are also the embodiment of Shanxi merchant culture. The Qiao family has prospered for five generations, and now the courtyard has been donated to the country.

The high walls and courtyards witnessed the prosperity of a generation of Shanxi merchants. The ticket price of 138 is a bit expensive, but since you are here, you can go in and take a walk.

For royal families, visit the Forbidden City; for private families, visit the Qiao Family Courtyard. The Qiao Family Courtyard is located in Qi County, Jinzhong, and is known as the twin walls together with the Qu Family Courtyard. It is a microcosm of Shanxi merchant culture. Visiting the Shanxi Merchant Courtyard and seeing the Ming and Qing culture is worth recommending.

It was raining heavily when we arrived at Qiao's Courtyard. We were the ones who encountered all the rare heavy rains in Shanxi. Are we the rain gods?

By China-TravelNote users |

I went there once a few years ago and it was OK. It was compact and the ticket price was reasonable. Qiao Family Courtyard is the smallest of the courtyards in Shanxi. I went there again this year and felt that the ticket price was ridiculously high after the 5a upgrade. In addition to the six old courtyards, a new courtyard was built, but there was nothing inside. It was nothing more than an abacus exhibition and a showroom for selling goods. It was meaningless, meaningless, and worthless. But the ticket price was 130 yuan for a pass. I couldn't see it even if I didn't want to. I felt kidnapped.

There are so many people! Those who have seen Wang's Courtyard are advised to go directly to the other side... Qiao's Courtyard is very delicate and exquisite, but it is not as elegant as Wang's Courtyard. If Qiao's Courtyard is petty bourgeoisie, then Wang's is elegant.
