As the tallest and oldest wooden pagoda in the world, this pagoda was built in the second year of Qingning in the Liao Dynasty (1056 AD). It has been more than 940 years since then. Although it has experienced violent storms, strong earthquakes, and artillery bombardment (the tower is full of bullet marks, and you can see the embedded bullets), it still stands. It is built entirely by the inlay and matching of brackets, columns and beams, without nails or rivets, and is built with more than 50 kinds of brackets. For example, the outer eaves of the corridor on the bottom floor of the tower are supported by 24 wooden columns. When it is still, each column on the lower floor bears a load of about 120 tons, but there is no mortar at all in the stone foundation under the column, and the cross section of the wooden column stands directly on the stone foundation. It is said that a curious person once held a thin rope with both hands and passed it across the stone foundation and the wooden column. Therefore, there is a legend among the people that the 24 wooden columns are intermittent in turn. The whole tower is equipped with wooden stairs, which can be climbed to each floor step by step. There are different views on each floor. The most special thing is that the Buddha statue enshrined in this tower is very large and the statue-making technique is very high. The Sakyamuni Buddha statue on the first floor is about 11 meters high. It is even more majestic when you look up at it from inside the tower. Surrounding it are murals of Vajra, Heavenly Kings, disciples, and donors. The brushwork is delicate and vivid, which is a unique painting style of the Liao Dynasty. The second floor is bright and open due to the light coming from all directions. A main Buddha, two Bodhisattvas and two assistants are arranged in a lively manner. The third, fourth and fifth floors also have Buddha statues and Bodhisattva statues. The statues on each floor are different and the structure is different.

Although you can only enter the first floor of the tower, the 50 yuan ticket is still worth it. Because you can see the upper floors of the tower from the outside, the number of tourists inside is really pitiful compared to the 3-hour long queue at the Hanging Temple and the scene of people standing side by side at Hengshan. You can enjoy the magnificent tower in 360 degrees! If you have the ability, I recommend you to go in and experience it
The Yingxian Wooden Pagoda doesn't seem to be very important. And we are very, very lucky to see it with our own eyes. The tour guide said that the wooden pagoda might collapse in three to five years, and then it would be impossible to visit. Unfortunately, his words came true. Half a month later, my friend also went to Datong, and the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda was closed and no longer accepted tourists. I knew that the wooden pagoda would not last long, but I didn't expect it to be so soon. This is the same as the Hanging Temple. These wooden buildings that have stood for more than a thousand years have finally reached the day when they can no longer hold on. If you are lucky enough, go and have a look.
I first met her in the "Cihai". When I was a child, there were not so many extracurricular books and encyclopedias. I was always willing to read various things in the dictionary when I was bored at home. I have always longed for this wooden tower in my heart. It happened that I drove home for the Spring Festival in early 2017 and passed by here. I had to go and see it. However, this great project is so lacking in protection and has so many problems. A country known as the world's infrastructure maniac cannot make this wooden tower look brand new. It's a pity. I hope that on the road of leap forward, we can look back and pay attention to some of the wisdom left by the ancients. I hope that the wooden tower can be better protected!
The tower is surrounded by green vegetation in the garden, and flowers of various colors are in full bloom. We came to the wooden tower. Because there were not many early visitors, we could take pictures from all angles. Inside the tower is a tall Buddha statue, covered with dust, sitting on a huge lotus platform. The lotus platform is carried by eight strong men, each of whom is very powerful, and the image is vivid and lifelike. Some places in the tower are also supported by iron rods and wooden boards. Some places may need to be repaired. There are stairs in the tower, but unfortunately they are closed.
The full name of the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda is the "Fogong Temple Sakyamuni Pagoda", which is located in the Fogong Temple in Yingxian County, Shuozhou City, Shanxi Province.
It was first built in the second year of Qingning in Liao Dynasty (1056)
It is the tallest and oldest existing pure wooden pavilion-style building in the world.
It took the craftsmen 150 years to build the tower.
Only then did they build this tallest ancient "building block"
The tower is so beautiful and has such a beautiful structure that people are amazed at the wisdom and skills of the ancients. However, the erosion of time and the influence of nature have made the protection of the wooden tower face great challenges. In order to ensure its safety, only the first floor is open to the public. Perhaps, we really see less and less of it. But because of this, we should cherish every opportunity to meet the wooden tower, feel its charm with our heart, and deeply imprint its memory in our hearts. At the same time, we also look forward to the day when the advancement of science and technology can bring better solutions to the protection of the wooden tower, so that more people can appreciate its complete style.
On the first day we arrived in Datong, we visited the five-story Sakyamuni Pagoda in Ying County. The shopping streets around the Fogong Temple are full of clothing and toy stores. It was afternoon and there were almost no pedestrians on the street. In addition to the dazzling array of goods and sleepy clerks, the shops were completely silent, making people feel like they had come to a parallel time and space.
The Yingxian Wooden Pagoda is a Liao Dynasty building. The entire tower is made of wood and is the tallest wooden tower in the world, on par with the Eiffel Tower and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Although the wooden tower can be seen from the outside, the moment you see the full view after checking your ticket and stepping into the scenic area, the layers of clearly visible mortise and tenon structures and the plaques written with calligraphy and painting are still shocking in their incomparable exquisiteness!
The Yingxian Wooden Pagoda is the tallest existing wooden structure in the world. Its full name is "Fogong Temple Sakyamuni Pagoda". It is 67.31 meters high from the ground to the top of the pagoda, which is about the height of a 22-story building today. It was built in the second year of the Qingning period of the Liao Dynasty, that is, in 1056 AD. The Yingxian Wooden Pagoda is known as one of the "Three Great Pagodas in the World" along with the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy and the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
When I was a child, I visited the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda with a tour group. At that time, you could go up and visit each floor. However, I was too young to appreciate it. Now that I am older, I understand it, but people don’t allow people to visit it anymore. Only the first floor is open to the public. After 900 years of time and space tunnel, after experiencing the baptism of artillery fire and earthquakes, and suffering from wind, frost, snow and rain, the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda can be preserved intact to this day, still standing tall and majestic. It is really amazing. It is hard to imagine what kind of superb technology can make this ancient wooden pagoda stronger than iron.
You should know that the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda is located in the Datong Basin seismic zone and has experienced countless earthquakes. More than 200 years after the wooden pagoda was built, a 6.5-magnitude earthquake occurred in the area. Aftershocks lasted for a week, and the nearby houses were all toppled, but the wooden pagoda stood proudly. In the last century, warlords Yan Xishan and Feng Yuxiang fought here, and more than 200 shells fell around the wooden pagoda. Except for the two broken pillars, no substantial damage was caused. It was like the momentum of Mao's "Xijiangyue Jinggangshan" "Let the wind blow and the waves beat, I will remain unmoved."
The full name of Sakyamuni Pagoda is Fogong Temple. Sakyamuni Pagoda is located in Fogong Temple in the northwest of Ying County, Shuozhou City, Shanxi Province. It is commonly known as Yingxian Wooden Pagoda. It was built in the second year of Qingning in Liao Dynasty and completed in the sixth year of Mingchang in Jin Dynasty. It is the oldest and tallest wooden pagoda in the world. The scenic area is not large. The core attraction, the wooden pagoda, comes into view as soon as you enter the door. As the saying goes: Look at Shanxi for the mountains and rivers inside and outside. Yes, Shanxi has a wealth of scenic spots and historical sites, and most of the buildings are well preserved. Yingxian Wooden Pagoda is one of them.
The peculiarity of the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda is that it is a purely wooden structure, like a huge building block, without any nails, and all connected by mortise and tenon joints.
Yingxian Wooden Pagoda, ticket price: 60 yuan
Duration: 1 hour
In fact, the wooden tower can also be seen from the square outside, and it doesn't matter whether you enter the scenic area or not. This is quite generous.
It is only more than 50 kilometers from the Hanging Temple to the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda, which takes about an hour. The wooden pagoda is called the Sakyamuni Pagoda of the Fogong Temple. It is located in the Fogong Temple of Yingxian City, Shuozhou City. It was built in the second year of Qingning in the Liao Dynasty (1056) and completed in the sixth year of Mingchang in the Jin Dynasty (1195). It is the oldest and tallest wooden pagoda in the world. It is also known as the "Three Great Pagodas in the World" along with the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy and the Eiffel Tower in Paris. However, it is 118 years earlier than the Leaning Tower of Pisa and 833 years earlier than the Eiffel Tower.
It is a scenic spot worth visiting. The wooden pagoda has stood for nearly a thousand years, and the wooden pagoda is made entirely of wood. The construction industry is very exquisite and amazing. The Buddha's relics in the wooden pagoda are also very special, with granulations growing on them.
Opposite the main door on the ground floor of the wooden pagoda, there is a tall statue of Tathagata, sitting on a huge lotus platform. The lotus platform is carried by eight strong men, each of whom is able to lift a huge weight, and the image is vivid and lifelike. These eight strong men were originally guardian gods stationed in eight directions. Taking advantage of the opportunity when the ancient Buddha Tathagata went out to preach, they gathered together and came to the mortal world in secret. The eight of them came down to the mortal world and moved like mountains and seas. Originally, the three mountains and five peaks, the five lakes and four seas of the world were arranged neatly, like chess pieces, so there is a saying that "stars and stars are spread out".
Ying County is not a tourist city. The landmark attraction is the Sakyamuni Pagoda, also known as the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda. Built in the Liao Dynasty, it is the tallest and oldest existing wooden structure tower building. It is known as one of the three most amazing towers in the world along with the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Eiffel Tower...
The wooden pagoda is 67.31 meters high. There are no tall buildings around it, so anyone passing by the Liao Dynasty Cultural City can see the wooden pagoda from a distance. Just by looking at it from a distance, you will be shocked by such a majestic building... The wooden pagoda is built on a four-meter-high platform, which is very magnificent! The tower is divided into five floors, and there are hidden floors between each floor, so it is actually nine floors... At first, you could climb to the top of the tower, but later only the second floor was allowed. Now, in order to protect the wooden pagoda, only the first floor is open to the public...
Approaching the wooden tower, the exterior has faded seriously, and the tower body has tilted slightly, as if telling people that it has experienced nearly a thousand years of vicissitudes... I have to sigh at the construction technology of the ancients. The brackets, columns and beams are inlaid and interlaced, and no iron nails are needed to build such a grand tower building. Despite all kinds of storms, strong earthquakes, wars... it still stands tall, it is simply a miracle! ~
Because of the complex and mysterious structure of the wooden pagoda, it is extremely difficult to repair it in the later period. Throughout the dynasties, there are records of repairs to the wooden pagoda, but only simple repairs and remedies can be done on parts...Now the wooden pagoda is still facing problems such as twisting, tilting, and some components are dislocated and split. I hope that experts can find a good way to solve it as soon as possible...
There is also a hall behind the wooden pagoda, which is a very typical layout of a pagoda in front and a hall in the back...
When I went to the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda Scenic Area, only the first floor of the pagoda was open for visitors, but no photography was allowed. The upper floors were not open. Unlike brick pagodas, the wooden pagoda is hollow. The first floor is a 10-meter-high statue of Sakyamuni Buddha, which feels integrated into the pagoda. It feels like "the pagoda is a Buddha, and the Buddha is a pagoda". Looking up at it, it feels overwhelming and compelling, and people can't help but bow their heads and worship. In addition, there is a Buddha tooth relic exhibition room next to the pagoda, which was not open when I went there.
The biggest attraction of the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda is that it is a pure wooden structure that has stood firm for thousands of years. It is the only one in China and the world, and it is a miracle. Get close to the wooden pagoda and marvel at its ingenuity. Look closely at the traces left by history on the tower and marvel at its difficulty in survival. It is also a thousand-year fate for future generations to be able to stand at its feet and admire its true appearance.
It is very famous. It is a pity not to go there, but there is no surprise if you go there. If you are interested in ancient buildings, especially the brackets, you can go and study it. At present, you can only go to the first floor to take a look.
I almost just checked in at the entrance without buying a ticket! The season is good! The flowers are in full bloom! This scene is really impressive. The scenery and architecture that we talk about so much in Japan are really learned from us!
I personally think this is the most beautiful ancient pagoda in China. If you come to Shanxi and don’t come here, you will definitely miss out.
The tower is tilted very seriously and the tickets are a bit expensive, but the beauty of the wooden tower is well-deserved.
The Yingxian Wooden Pagoda was first built in the Liao Dynasty and has stood for a thousand years. However, the management of the scenic area is not very good, it is very messy and poorly planned.
The full name of the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda is the Fogong Temple Sakyamuni Pagoda, which can be called a miracle in the history of architecture.
The Yingxian Wooden Pagoda is an ancient building that you must see when you go to Shuozhou. It is one of the three most famous towers in the world, along with the Eiffel Tower and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. It is the earliest of the three towers built and the tallest wooden tower in the world. I went there in 2010, and you could still climb the tower at that time.
Five generations have passed since the imperial city was built
Like a grain of sand in the ocean
My ancestors lived here.
My home is beside the wooden pagoda
Climbing the tower is no longer allowed. The wooden tower itself is still worth a look, but there is not much else to see besides the tower.
Now the wooden tower can only be seen on the first floor. The left side of the tower is so slanted that it is impossible to go up and tourists are not allowed to go up. The value of the wooden tower lies in its originality and it is worth seeing.
I am a little disappointed with the development of this scenic spot. The history and characteristics of the cultural relics themselves are quite good. The whole scenic area feels quite depressed. There is nothing to see except the wooden tower itself, and you can just walk around it.
If the architecture teacher knew that we didn't go into the wooden tower in order to eat Hunyuan jelly, he would probably beat us to death.
This first one that has been recommended so many times is not undeserved. I admire the great wisdom and creativity of the ancient Chinese working people and skilled craftsmen!
A miracle of Chinese wooden structure, it is called a tower but it is actually a building, and it has stood for a thousand years and is extremely precious. At that time, those who could enter the tower to visit could only go to the second floor, and just looking at the thick wood was enough to shock them. If you can't enter the tower, it doesn't matter whether you buy the ticket or not, you can see it from the outside.
The beauty is beyond description. It is shocking.
After reading the history and stories of the wooden pagoda introduced earlier, I came here specially today and was greatly disappointed. The ticket price was not less than a penny, but I could only look inside and was not allowed to go upstairs without any explanation.
The Yingxian Wooden Pagoda, which is known as one of the "Three Great Pagodas in the World" along with the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy and the Eiffel Tower in Paris, is 67.31 meters high. It is a pure wooden structure without nails or rivets and is the tallest wooden pagoda in the world. This is a pavilion-style wooden pagoda, which uses a large number of bracket structures to organically integrate beams, squares and columns into a whole. The entire wooden pagoda looks like it has only five floors from the outside, but it is actually nine floors high because there is a hidden floor between every two floors.
As the largest of the eight remaining Liao structures, the wooden pagoda gives off a very shocking sense of oppression. Upon closer inspection, its complex brackets, elegant murals, and ingenious structure give people many surprises in the details. In my opinion, the wooden pagoda is not only a bracket museum, but also a dictionary of architectural aesthetics.
Except for the tower, everything else is shining with new light. You can’t climb the tower now, but if you want to know the scenery upstairs, you can experience a virtual tour.
It started to drizzle when I got off the bus. I saw the sturdy wooden tower from afar in the drizzle and I was immediately excited.
It is said to be slightly skewed, but I can't see it with my naked eyes.
This is the tallest and oldest all-wooden tower in the world. It is built with brackets without nails or rivets. Even the wooden pillars are placed flat on the stone base without any grooves. There are four hidden floors in total of nine floors, and there are also beautiful Buddha statues that are not allowed to be photographed. Because the specific structure is unclear, it is now impossible to repair it.
There are wind chimes under the eaves, which sound like music when the wind blows. There are also many swallows flying in and out of the tower all year round, but they do not build nests in the tower. It is said that they only eat the insects inside.
Since 2009, it has been closed to the public and only the first floor can be visited.
Its simple beauty reminds me of the Pantheon. One can only stand there and admire it…
It turns out that I completely underestimated the size of this tower. I was shocked when I got off the bus and looked across the Liao Dynasty Street. It is really a wonderful building. It is said that the tower is partially tilted and it is no longer possible to go up. It is a pity. I hope these national treasures can be well protected.
I went too late and didn't sell tickets, but I thought the tickets were too expensive. It's very clear from the square and it's good for taking photos.
The wooden tower built in 1056 AD is very spectacular, with thousands of swallows flying around the tower. Now only one floor is allowed to be visited, and the tower is tilted. I admire the exquisite craftsmanship of the ancients. This tower is known as one of the three great towers in the world, along with the Eiffel Tower and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. 👍
It is said that during the war, a shell hit the tower and passed through the doors and windows. Now the tower is a little tilted. But it is a miracle that it has not fallen down.
It is much better than the current unfinished reinforced concrete buildings. The current bad projects can probably be solved with firecrackers, let alone cannonballs.
There is a small temple behind the tower, called "Xiao Xitian". The red mottled wooden door has a sense of age.
From the front of the tower, it looks like there are only 4 floors, but there are actually 4 floors hidden inside, so it is equivalent to 8 floors.
You can’t take pictures of the Buddha statues in the pagoda, so I took pictures of the wooden stairs next to it.
Many people should know that this staircase is the one used to sweep the pagoda in the old version of Journey to the West. The filming location of the inner scenic spot is here.
I feel like this is a nostalgia trip.
The Yingxian Wooden Pagoda is located in Shuozhou, also known as the Sakyamuni Pagoda. It has been more than 940 years old. Despite the violent storms, strong earthquakes, and artillery bombardment (the tower is full of bullet holes, and you can see the embedded bullets), it still stands. It is all built by the inlay of brackets, columns and beams. It is said that it was built for Empress Xiao of the Liao Dynasty. The famous Empress Xiao appeared in the novel "The Generals of the Yang Family". The reason why the wooden pagoda was built here for her is because Empress Xiao was from Yingxian. This place belongs to the Sixteen Prefectures of Yanyun and is not under the jurisdiction of the Song Dynasty.
It is one of the three most amazing towers in the world, along with the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy and the Eiffel Tower in Paris. You could go up to the second floor, but now you can only visit the first floor. From now on, you can only view it from the outside.
The Yingxian Wooden Pagoda is not only leaning but also has two unique features:
First, there are dark layers inside. From the outside, there are 5 layers, and there are 4 dark layers inside. This forms a 9-layer pagoda structure.
Second, there are birds flying around all year round, eating the termites in the tower but not building nests in the tower.
I won't tell you about the Buddhist story of the wooden pagoda. You can go there and listen to the tour guide's explanation. I admire such a beautiful building, and I sigh that it can be preserved so well.
You can only go into one floor of the wooden tower, and the first floor has been reinforced with bricks, so there is nothing to see. The main thing is to see the inscriptions of Zhu Di and Zhu Houzhao. But I don't understand calligraphy.
There is a small temple behind the wooden pagoda.
I have been looking forward to the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda for a long time. I came here for its grandeur. It was built in the Liao Dynasty. It is an AAAA scenic spot and is known as one of the "three great towers in the world" along with the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy and the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The tower is now tilted to the right, especially on the second floor! So now you are not allowed to climb the tower, you can only take a look at it from the first floor!
The first wooden tower is both strong and flexible, and has stood for a thousand years. I asked the tour guide if I could climb up, and the tour guide said that no one had climbed up since the filming of the scene in Journey to the West where Tang Monk swept the tower. I don't know if it's true or not. Anyway, looking at the obvious twisting of the tower on the side, I still feel the magic of ancient architecture. 170,000 pieces of wood are placed on the ground, supported by 24 pillars on the ground, without roots or foundations, and it will not fall down in earthquakes or artillery bombardments. It's amazing. The octagonal corners of each floor of the tower on the side have slightly shifted
The itinerary for that day was to go to the Hanging Temple, Hengshan Mountain and Yungang Grottoes. On the bus, the tour guide asked if anyone wanted to go to the wooden pagoda. Most people chose to go, so we went together. After entering the scenic area, I saw this upright wooden pagoda, and I felt that it was a great shock to my soul. After so many wars and storms, without a single nail on the tower body, it stood for such a long time. The wisdom of the ancients is really amazing. It's a pity that these techniques are slowly being lost, and how to protect these ancient cultural relics is still a big problem. The tour guide said that the wooden pagoda has been tilted a little, like a person slowly tiptoeing. If the center of gravity is unstable, there is a risk of collapse. I really hope that experts can find a way to maintain the wooden pagoda as soon as possible so that future generations can always witness her style.
Nothing is more shocking than this. I looked at each side for a long time. It is really a great building~
The No. 1 Pagoda in the World - The tallest and oldest wooden pagoda in the world - the Sakyamuni Pagoda of Fogong Temple, commonly known as the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda. The entire structure of the pagoda is made of wood, without nails or rivets, but it has stood for thousands of years, and it is not burned by lightning, strong earthquakes, or destroyed by war. It is known as the "Three Great Pagodas in the World" together with the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy and the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The pagoda uses 54 types and 240 groups of different forms of brackets, and is known as the "Chinese Ancient Architecture Bracket Museum". When I came here, I was deeply attracted by the various large brackets. I looked up for a long time. Well, it is great to appreciate the beauty of this kind of architecture while treating cervical spondylosis! Hahaha! In order to protect the wooden pagoda, only the first floor is currently open. Looking up at the 11-meter-high Sakyamuni Buddha statue in the pagoda, it feels even more majestic. Surrounding it are murals of Vajra, Heavenly Kings, disciples, and donors, with delicate and vivid brushwork, which is a unique painting style of the Liao Dynasty. The top of the pagoda is an octagonal pointed style with an iron brake on it. Wind chimes are installed under the eaves of each floor of the pagoda. When we went there, swallows were flying around the tower, wind chimes were swaying and ringing, and the wooden tower stood quietly under the blue sky and sunshine, simple, elegant, majestic and solemn. Tickets for the scenic spot: 60 yuan for adults. If you want to know more about Datong food and attractions, please follow my travel notes http://www.mafengwo.cn/note/create.php/modify/?id=334799177
If you just want to see the exterior, you don’t need to buy a ticket. From Liaojin Square to Taqian Street and then to the entrance of the scenic area, you can see it from far to near for free.
The second floor of the wooden pagoda is now inaccessible. Due to the inclination of the pagoda, only the first floor is open to the public for the purpose of protecting the historic site. In the center of the bottom floor is an 11-meter-high Sakyamuni statue with a green beard and holes in the earlobes, which are the characteristics of Liao Dynasty men. Above the Buddha statue is a dome-shaped caisson, and around it are Buddhist murals.
The wooden pagoda has a total of 5 floors, with 26 Liao Dynasty colored sculptures distributed among them. However, the wooden stairs leading to the upper floors have been closed, and one can only appreciate the beauty of the Buddha statues from picture albums.
The Yingxian Wooden Pagoda is one of the three most amazing pagodas in the world, along with the Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. In 1961, the Sakyamuni Pagoda became one of the first national key cultural relics protection sites, and in November 2012, the Sakyamuni Pagoda was included in the World Cultural Heritage Tentative List.
The Yingxian Wooden Pagoda is the tallest and oldest existing wooden tower building in China. The entire tower consumes 3,000 cubic meters (more than 2,600 tons) of red pine wood. It has a pure wooden structure without nails or rivets, and is designed with nearly sixty types of brackets with different shapes and functions. It is the building with the most types of brackets and the most exquisite design among all Chinese ancient buildings. Although we don’t know much about ancient buildings and cannot climb the tower for a tour, this architectural wonder is still worth a visit.
It was built in the second year of Qingning in the Liao Dynasty. It was built entirely with wood using traditional Chinese construction methods such as diagonal beams and short columns. Not a single nail was used, making the entire tower connected into a whole. It is both solid and magnificent, and has withstood the wind and rain for more than 900 years.
When you walk into the first floor of the wooden pagoda, you will see a statue of Buddha Sakyamuni. The strange thing is that the statue has a beard. Research experts believe that this is related to ethnic characteristics.
It takes 52 minutes by train from Datong to Yingxian Station, and then there is a bus for 5 yuan, which takes 20 minutes to Yingxian County. Tell the driver that you want to go to the Wooden Pagoda and he will remind you to get off.
Due to its remote location and inconvenient transportation, the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda disappeared from people's sight for a long time in history and only resurfaced in the 20th century.
The full name of the Sakyamuni Pagoda is the Fogong Temple Sakyamuni Pagoda, which is located in the Fogong Temple in the northwest of Ying County, Shuozhou City, Shanxi Province. It is commonly known as the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda. It is the tallest and oldest existing wooden pagoda in China. In addition to withstanding the erosion of day and night, the changes of the four seasons, wind, frost, rain and snow, the Sakyamuni Pagoda has also suffered many strong earthquakes, with more than a dozen earthquakes with an intensity of more than five degrees. The pagoda also enshrines relics. At that time, the tour guide said that if you go there, you will see birds flying in groups around the pagoda, protecting the wooden pagoda. It is indeed true, and it is worth seeing.
When I was looking up at the tower from below, I could hear the sound of wind chimes. The tower stood tall and majestic, and flocks of swallows flew over the top of the tower. The swallows feed on the insects living on the wooden tower. Therefore, the tower has been able to stand for nearly a thousand years without collapsing, not only because of its exquisite workmanship, scientific proportions, the combination of visible and dark layers, and the combination of rigidity and flexibility, but also because of these little guards.
The internal structure design prototype of Shanxi Museum is also derived from the outline of Yingxian Wooden Pagoda. It is really worthy of the inscription of "Junji Shenggong".
Like those great people who have retraced the Lianglin Road, I admire the era in which this tower was built and the unknown great architects and unknown craftsmen of that era.
The only remaining wooden tower is perfect and stunning.
The full name of the Sakyamuni Pagoda is the Sakyamuni Pagoda of Fogong Temple. It is located in Fogong Temple in the northwest of Ying County, Shuozhou City, Shanxi Province. It is commonly known as the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda. As the tallest and oldest wooden pagoda in the world, it was built in the second year of Qingning in the Liao Dynasty (1056 AD) and was not finally completed until the sixth year of Mingchang in the Jin Dynasty (1195 AD). The tower is 67.31 meters high and 30.27 meters in diameter at the bottom. It is octagonal in plane. The whole tower consumes 3,000 cubic meters of red pine wood, more than 2,600 tons, with a pure wooden structure without nails or rivets. Two tooth relics of Sakyamuni Buddha are enshrined in the tower. It has been more than 940 years since then. Although it has experienced violent storms, strong earthquakes, and artillery bombardment (the tower is full of bullet marks and you can see the embedded bullets), it still stands.
It is built entirely by inlaying and interlacing brackets, columns and beams, without nails or rivets, and is built with more than 50 kinds of brackets. For example, the outer eaves of the corridor on the bottom floor of the tower are supported by 24 wooden columns. When stationary, each column on the lower floor bears a load of 120 tons, but there is no mortar at the stone base under the column, and the cross section of the wooden column stands directly on the stone base. It is said that a curious person once held a thin rope in both hands and passed it across between the stone base and the wooden column. Therefore, there is a legend among the people that the 24 wooden columns take turns to rest.
The whole tower is equipped with wooden stairs, which can be climbed to each floor step by step. Each floor has a different view. The most special thing is that the Buddha statue enshrined in this tower is very large, and the statue making skills are very high. The Sakyamuni Buddha statue on the first floor is 11 meters high. Looking up at it from inside the tower, it feels even more majestic. Surrounding it are murals of Vajra, Heavenly King, disciples, and donors. The brushwork is delicate and vivid, which is a unique painting style of the Liao Dynasty. The second floor is suddenly bright because of the light coming from all directions. A main Buddha, two Bodhisattvas and two assistants are arranged in vivid postures. The third, fourth and fifth floors also have Buddha statues and Bodhisattva statues. The statues on each floor are different and the structure is different.
But now, because the base of the tower is tilted, no one can climb up except the pigeons that fly up to build nests.
Visiting hours: 07:00~19:00
Tickets: 50 yuan (Qunar price)
The Liao Dynasty Buddha between the first and second floors is quite impressive, and the paintings inside are also well preserved. The most special thing is that you can see the back of the Buddha, which is quite rare.
The tallest and oldest wooden pagoda in China, with more historical and cultural significance than landscape, is still very magnificent. There are a few murals preserved inside, not many, but all very beautiful. But the surrounding area is not well managed. A small temple behind the pagoda seems to have been contracted out, and some people have tricked tourists into burning incense and fortune-telling. The tourist street outside the scenic area is also a bit messy.
It is the oldest and tallest existing pure wooden structure pavilion-style building in my country; it is named after the place name (also known as the Fogong Temple Sakyamuni Wooden Pagoda)
The ticket to the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda is 55 yuan. I think this ticket is a bit expensive and not worth going. It's just because this wooden pagoda is a full wooden structure and was built during the Liao and Jin Dynasties.
For those who are interested in ancient architecture, the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda is definitely worth the effort.
Train No. K891, fare 12.50 yuan, Datong 12:00-Yingxian 12:52. Minibus, fare 5 yuan, Yingxian Railway Station 12:57-Yingxian Wooden Pagoda Station 13:22. There is only one minibus in front of the station, probably it is specially here to pick up passengers on this trip. Get off and cross the road to the Liao Dynasty Cultural City, and you can see the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda from the archway. The regular price is 50 yuan.
Although there is only the ground floor, it is not bad. The only thing is that the ticket is expensive and the cost performance is low, about twenty yuan.
It is the tallest and oldest existing wooden tower building in China. There is a scenic parking lot nearby, and there are beautiful police officers directing traffic. You can enter the tower now, but you can't climb to the top. If you don't want to spend money, you can also see the location in the picture below. So you can choose not to buy tickets when you see the ticket office, because there are still tickets inside.
You must go to the VR for 50 yuan. You can see the structure of the first to fifth floors of the wooden tower, which is more detailed than the explanation of the 50 yuan guide inside the wooden tower.
Now you can only walk around the first floor of the tower, which is slightly tilted now.
The stunning Sakya Pagoda, please hold on and don’t fall down!
The three most amazing towers in the world, the appearance is shocking enough, but it's a pity that you can only see the first floor. The two women jelly opposite the scenic area is delicious. Note that there are no other words before the two women.
The Yingxian Wooden Pagoda is located in Yingxian County, Shuozhou City, Shanxi Province. The full name of the Yingxian Wooden Pagoda is the Yingxian Fogong Temple Sakyamuni Pagoda, which is a pagoda temple built in the Buddha's palace dedicated to the Buddha Sakyamuni's real body relics. It is known as one of the three most amazing towers in the world, along with the Eiffel Tower in France and the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy. However, the transportation is not very convenient. It is recommended to charter or share a car with the Hanging Temple and Hengshan. The phone number for the chartered driver is 13293828549
The attractions I visited during my graduation trip in 2009. It’s great to be young~
It was closed for other reasons at the time and I couldn't go in, which was a bit regrettable.
The ticket is 50 yuan. You can ask a tour guide to explain. I recommend the public account "Yungang Yunyou Technology". There are audio explanations for the main attractions in Datong. It is the tallest and oldest existing wooden tower building in China. Two tooth relics of Sakyamuni Buddha are enshrined in the tower. In 1926, Feng Yuxiang's army developed towards Shanxi, but was desperately resisted by Yan Xishan who was entrenched there. The Feng-Yan War broke out in Shanxi. In this war, the wooden tower was hit by more than 200 bullets and suffered severe trauma. When Yingxian was liberated in 1948, the Kuomintang army defending the city set up a machine gun position with the wooden tower as the commanding height. The wooden tower was hit by 12 shells, which caused it to tilt from the third and fourth floors. According to the chartered driver, local news said that the government invited many architectural masters at home and abroad to seek maintenance methods, but there is still no good solution! ! ! What a pity! ! !
Although it is known as one of the "Three Great Towers in the World" along with the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy and the Eiffel Tower in Paris, it is a pity that its reputation is far inferior to the former two. After enduring day and night, the changes of the four seasons, the erosion of wind, frost, rain and snow, and suffering from many strong earthquakes and wars, the wooden tower has stood for thousands of years. I wonder how long it can stand... The first time I saw it from a distance, I was deeply attracted by its simplicity and grandeur. Since 2011, in order to protect the wooden tower, only the first floor is open to tourists.
