"Daocheng" and "Yading" often appear together, so that many people can't figure out the relationship between them. First of all, Daocheng is not a "city", but a "county" under the Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province. Yading is a scenic spot in Daocheng County, 108 kilometers away from Daocheng County. For most people, Daocheng County is a post station leading to the picturesque Yading Scenic Area, and the entrance to the Yading Scenic Area belongs to Shangri-La Town.

If you want to go to Daocheng Yading but are afraid of altitude sickness, Shangri-La Town is a good choice.

It's a very small town, you can walk around it in 15 minutes. People who come here are going to Yading Scenic Area the next day. I had a good pork trotter hot pot, and there is also a tea shop next to it, which is really a surprise.

At noon, we went to Shangri-La Town for lunch via the Aden Scenic Area. During the free time while waiting for the meal, the beauties appeared in the photo together. It can be seen that everyone is in good spirits!

Shangri-La Town (2900 meters above sea level): Shangri-La Town was formerly called Riwa Town. It is surrounded by mountains on all sides and is located in a col outside the Daocheng Yading Scenic Area. Due to its low altitude, it is very suitable for resting before going to Daocheng Yading. Shangri-La Town is located 71 kilometers south of Daocheng County. It covers an area of ​​736 square kilometers and has an altitude of 2,980 meters. It has the beautiful Yading National Nature Reserve, which is 34 kilometers away from the Yading Scenic Area, 25 kilometers away from the Echu Mountain Scenic Area, and more than 60 kilometers away from the Kasi Hell Valley Scenic Area.

It is a small town where ethnic characteristics and on-site fashion coexist, with complete facilities and beautiful scenery.

If you go to Yading, it is recommended to stay in Shangri-La Town, which is at a low altitude and you don't have to worry about altitude sickness. There are also many restaurants and food choices. After leaving the scenic area, you can take a 5-yuan bus to take you back to the town. If you stay in Yading Village, there are fewer choices, the accommodation conditions are average, and the price is relatively expensive.

We stopped and walked along the way, and it was dark before we reached Shangri-La. When we saw the Zunsheng Pagoda, we were close to Shangri-La. Shangri-La Town is located at the foot of the Yading Scenic Area. There are many accommodations, small shops and restaurants in the town, which is very convenient.

Although there is a place in Yunnan that used to be called Diqing and is now called Shangri-La, Rachel prefers to believe that Daocheng Yading is the place described by explorer Joseph Locke and novelist James Hilton. The magnificent and sacred snow-capped mountains, vast meadows, colorful forests and clear blue lakes, all the most beautiful things that the snowy plateau should have are concentrated and reflected here.

The journey there is indeed arduous. Many people who have been there once would not choose to go a second time, but I personally think that once is enough. Different seasons have different scenery. Although it is not sunny, I still think the scenery is very beautiful. You have to pay a price to see the beautiful scenery.

The visitor center has a manual ticket window and an automatic ticket machine, but I found that the tickets I booked online could not be picked up from the automatic ticket machine. Seeing that there were already many people queuing at the window, I decisively refunded the ticket and bought a new ticket from the automatic ticket machine (150 yuan for the ticket + 120 yuan for the sightseeing bus). The Alipay code scanning was very fast.

The scenic spot ticket is valid for 2 days, but you need to buy a sightseeing bus ticket again to enter the scenic spot on the second day (half price, 60 yuan). You will also need to show a photo of the people and scenery in the scenic spot on the first day as proof.

Shangri-La Town is located in Daocheng County, 6 kilometers away from the new visitor center of Daocheng Yading Scenic Area, and can be reached in ten minutes by car. Shangri-La Town is only more than 2,900 meters above sea level, which can effectively alleviate or avoid altitude sickness. There are many restaurants and hotels, making it an ideal place to stay. However, Daocheng County is more than 3,700 meters above sea level, which is prone to altitude sickness. It takes an hour and a half to drive to the scenic area, so it is not suitable for accommodation. We stayed in Shangri-La Town and successfully caught the first scenic area bus up the mountain. We played both the long and short lines in one day.

Shangri-La County is in Yunnan, and Shangri-La Town is in Sichuan. This is the result of the two provinces competing for the popular "Shangri-La". But I still like to call it by its original name, Riwa Township. This is the only way to enter the Yading Scenic Area and the supply point. The accommodation and food conditions in the town are much better than those in Yading Village on the mountain. The key is that the altitude is only 2,900 meters. Most people here will not have altitude sickness, and you can have a good rest for a night to save enough energy for the next day's mountain.

Not bad for a rest, but also a hotel-style village

After two days of hiking in Daocheng Yading Scenic Area, we arrived at the hotel we booked in Shangri-La Town. After checking in and putting down our luggage, we went to the street to find a restaurant recommended on the Internet. As a result, the restaurant was closed, so we had dinner at a nearby folk restaurant with a taste of Ama. We ordered a local specialty chicken soup pot with matsutake mushrooms, three kinds of vegetables and tofu, and rice as the staple food. The total cost was 440 yuan, of which the small portion of chicken stewed with matsutake mushrooms was 388 yuan. After dinner, we took a walk near the hotel where we stayed. There is a very exquisite Rock Square. Here I saw Gesang flowers for the first time.

The town is not big, and basically all hotels, there is nothing to visit. In the afternoon when the ultraviolet rays are the strongest, two-thirds of the shops are closed. We walked around and came back. The town often has power outages, which is indeed not as convenient as the city. After five o'clock in the evening, small shops gradually opened.

Shangri-La Town

Compared with Daocheng County, this place is closer to Daocheng Yading Scenic Area, which is suitable for friends who want to enter the scenic area as early as possible the next day. Moreover, there are many dining and accommodation options here, and the entertainment is constantly being updated. It can be said that the future Shangri-La town will be very lively!

It's really average. It's very well hyped up on the Internet. There's horse manure everywhere on the way up the mountain. It's very dirty and very difficult to walk on the road when it rains. There are no safety facilities. There is a cliff on one side. It's very dangerous for two people to walk side by side. There is no place to buy water and food on the mountain.

We stayed at the Super 8 Hotel in Shangri-La Town. The next day, the tour guide drove us to the visitor center to queue up to buy tickets. It took more than an hour to take the scenic bus into the scenic area. It is recommended to stay in a hotel or B&B inside the scenic area. We were short on time and didn’t have time to visit the Milk Sea and the Five-Colored Sea. It was a pity!

When I went to Ading, I stayed at the Lotus Hotel in Rencun, Shangri-La Town. It was very comfortable and 500 meters away from the Ading scenic area.

If the car has a problem, you have to walk 3-5 kilometers towards Daocheng to get a car.

The tourist center of the scenic spot is located. It is recommended to stay in an inn or hotel as close to the tourist center as possible. There is a shop selling beef offal soup in the town, which tastes pretty good. There are also many restaurants, which is very convenient.

The other famous Shangri-La is Shangri-La City, the capital of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province. It was formerly known as Zhongdian County. It was renamed Shangri-La County on December 17, 2001. On December 16, 2014, Shangri-La abolished the county and established the city. Of the two Shangri-Las, which one is the real Shangri-La in our hearts? Jiayong Hotel is OK, the room is decorated with an artistic atmosphere, 180 yuan/room. The key is that you can take a comfortable hot bath. The sanitary conditions of Xinlong Hotel are still too simple, and the bath is not comfortable. Moreover, Jiayong Hotel is at the intersection of the scenic area, which is quite convenient. However, Shangri-La Town is very small, just a pure tourist distribution center, I think you can stay anywhere. We came in early June, which is probably the off-season, there are very few tourists, and there are almost no people on the streets, empty.

Shangri-La town is unusually peaceful in the early morning, as if it is still in a sweet dream. Enjoy the unique style of hotels along the way, and come to Rock Square along the Rock Trail. The surrounding walls are inlaid with photos of Tibetan customs taken by Joseph Rock in Aden in 1928. The black and white photos are simple and bright and have a sense of the times.

It is a ten-minute drive from the Yading Tourist Center, and then a one-and-a-half-hour sightseeing bus ride to Zhaguanbeng. Riwa Village is not big, but it has much better facilities than Yading Village, including a hospital, a supermarket, and a KTV. The altitude is low and it is comfortable to live in.

A must-go place to Aden, there are many hotels for accommodation. Although the town is small, it is very exquisitely built. The hotel rooms are small but very warm.

Shangri-La Town in Daocheng County was formerly called Riwa Town. As Shangri-La became more and more famous, n years ago, Daocheng County in Sichuan and Zhongdian County in Diqing, Yunnan, competed for who was the Shangri-La described by James Hilton. In terms of momentum, Sichuan Shangri-La is obviously slightly better, and it has finally given up the "bad air" of being one level lower in administrative level!

We have been to both Shangri-Las. Subjectively, I feel that Sichuan Shangri-La is indeed better than Yunnan Shangri-La. The three sacred mountains of Daocheng Yading cannot be matched in Yunnan Shangri-La. Of course, if Yunnan promotes the concept of Greater Shangri-La and includes Deqin in Greater Shangri-La, then Sichuan, with only Daocheng Yading, will definitely not be a match for Yunnan. But don't forget that Ganzi also has Gongga Mountain. Once the King of Sichuan Mountains and the scenic area around Gongga Mountain appear, even Greater Shangri-La will be slightly inferior.

I have to say something about this place, Jiabigou, a small town, which is under construction now. Prices are high, accommodation is expensive, and the lowest price of hotels is 280, and then 380. I found one online, and when they heard that we were in town, they said that there were no ordinary guest rooms, only luxurious ones, starting at 480 yuan. We calculated on the bus, staying for one night, it was not cost-effective, our two rooms cost almost 1,000 yuan. When we got off the bus to find a hotel, we met a Tibetan sister, and she introduced us to this house. We went in and took a look. It was a standard Tibetan house, with sundries piled up downstairs and people living on the second floor. The guest room was a room with two bunks, and the bathroom was shared. It cost 50 yuan per bunk, and the sheets were clean. Parking was allowed in the yard, and the gate to the yard had to be locked at night for safety, so we asked for two rooms.

The red carpet in Daocheng has been fenced off and charged. Cars are not allowed to stop near it, so I can only take pictures with my mobile phone in the car. The red carpet is very small, so I can take pictures in the car. The poplar forest has not been dyed yellow by frost, and a row of hateful telephone poles prevent me from taking pictures of the beautiful scenery.
