It takes 4 hours to reach Shenmulei from Chengdu. The entrance fee is 60 yuan, and the parking fee is 10 yuan. It's a natural forest oxygen bar, quiet, uncrowded, and the air is fresh, perfect for a stroll and a relaxing stroll. The alpine rhododendrons are already in bloom, but at the end of April, less than a third of them were in full bloom, with most still buds. Full bloom probably won't be until mid-May! The scenic area has two hiking routes, but the second phase of the trail is difficult to navigate due to maintenance and is closed to tourists. Only the route to the meadow is open, making the area seem smaller. I think it's even more beautiful in summer and autumn. I'll definitely be back in autumn! Also, they're dog-friendly, which is awesome!

By China-TravelNote users |

The scenic area is actually quite photogenic. If it were close to Chengdu, it would be a great place. However, there's not much to explore within a few hours' drive. However, the views and snow-capped mountains are stunning when you climb up. There are also many barbecue stalls in the area, all at reasonable prices. Without further ado, here are the pictures.

By summer |

If this can be called a scenic spot, it is completely a place where you can charge a fee by blocking a piece of land on the roadside! They also charge dozens of yuan for tickets. There is only a forest and a road inside. There is nothing. It is better to visit a park than to visit this scenic spot! The advantage is that the air is good! I have been to many places, and this is the worst experience! The scenery on the way from Wolong to Siguniang Mountain is better than this, really! If you treat it as a mountain climbing and walking exercise, it is still okay

By Xiao Lingzi |

I have to say Shenmu Lei is truly pristine. The cows and pigs are grazing freely in the grass and trees. I went to the top of the mountain and took some photos. The scenery is stunning and the air is fresh. Since it's a meadow, you can even lie down. There are prayer wheels, prayer flags, a wishing tree, and even a boy chasing pigs. Oh, and I highly recommend the barbecue in Shenmu Lei. It's absolutely delicious!!!

By Evan's Diary |

Baoxing boasts only two well-managed scenic spots: Shenmu Lei and Dongla Mountain Grand Canyon. Shenmu Lei is the most impressive. Tickets are 60 yuan, and you can drive in directly and wander freely without taking a sightseeing bus. It's a delight! The entire scenic area isn't large, and while there's some climbing involved, it's within your means, so you won't have sore feet for days. The core scenery is the alpine meadows. When Evan and his friends visited Shenmu Lei, they were caught in a massive fog, shrouding the entire hillside in a thin mist. It truly felt like a haven for the gods!

【Landscape Uniqueness】★★★☆☆ Typical western Sichuan scenery with alpine meadows as the core

【Landscape fatigue】★★☆☆☆ You can drive in and the walking path is not very long

【Time-consuming scenic spots】★★★★☆ Very flexible, only spend two or three hours in the core area, and half a day to visit all the attractions

By 87Jerry |

The biggest difference between my second visit to Shenmu Lei and my first was the increasing number of accommodations near the visitor center, with better facilities. Another change was the reduced water level in Xieqi Lake, which I heard was due to seasonal factors.

The Shenmulei Scenic Area primarily consists of a redwood forest and a meadow. The redwood forest is the starting point for the hike, and the meadow is the highest point. The entire area took four hours to explore, mostly for photo opportunities. The scenery is truly stunning on a clear day. The area is relatively unpretentious, with few amenities. There are a few barbecue stalls, and the roasted potatoes are delicious—definitely worth trying.

By angel |

No need to go. Just clean your lungs and wander around. The conditions there are pretty average. Bring plenty of food.

By Walnut |

Thank you Xiao Tao, nature is beautiful.

By Fei Bin |

Shenmu Lei is not a popular scenic spot yet, so there are relatively few tourists, so it is relatively comfortable to visit.

By Freelancer |

Summer and autumn are the most beautiful seasons! The natural scenery is still pristine and beautiful.

By 🌻Feng Qipa |

The scenic area is not large, but it has a rich variety of scenery, including forests, snowfields, meadows, white pagodas, prayer flags... and a wide variety of biological species. It's a pity that it wasn't warm enough when we arrived, so we only saw the occasional tightly wrapped magnolia bud on the branches of the roadside, and missed the opportunity to see the rhododendrons that covered the mountains...

By Maxwell |

Compared to the mountains of Dawa Gengza, Shenmulei is more enjoyable to explore. Its main attractions are divided into two areas: forest and meadow. Not far inside, you'll find a fir forest. It's called a primeval forest, but since we haven't yet entered the depths of the mountains, it's more of a forest. Therefore, I didn't see any of the macaques, wild doves, and other flora and fauna mentioned on the signboards. I've seen enough forest to not find much to note, but the density and height of the fir trees here are perfect for photography. Since it was overcast when we passed through the forest, there weren't many people taking photos.

By Barrow |

Very primitive, not yet fully developed, a good place to travel

By Li/tp |

The Shenmulei scenic area is very small. It took me less than two hours to visit it. I was a little disappointed. Is this where the gods live?

By 15108279162 |

We arrived at the scenic spot at 11 o'clock that morning. Due to the snow in the scenic area, cars were not allowed to enter. We spent 40 yuan (40 yuan per person) on the ticket and could only enter on foot. The entire scenic area was nothing but snow and trees. We finally walked to the visitor center, but there was no staff there. We had to go down the mountain hungry. So I advise everyone to come in spring.

By Licorice |

I walked into Shenmu Lei with the mentality of casually wandering around, not thinking that there would be any beautiful scenery. The mountains are bare during the New Year. I didn't expect... after entering the gate, in the red cedar forest not far away, there might be what you want to see...

By Sago |

It's just a primeval forest, not much to see, but the air is fresh, suitable for cleansing the lungs on weekends.

By Drifter |

Perfect for a quick weekend stroll! Refresh your lungs! It's a great option for taking children out into nature! From Ya'an, take a loop through Jiajin Mountain, enjoying a variety of scenic views along the way, including the site of the Red Army's Long March. A relaxing two-day weekend itinerary!

The only regret is that the sky was gray during the National Day and we didn’t see the blue sky and white clouds. However, Shenmulei is still very beautiful, and the photos I took are very nice, and I want to share them with you.

By Matthew |

The beef is delicious and worth buying. The village itself is not very big and can be visited in an hour.

By maybe |

Shenmulei is quite beautiful in this season, with golden leaves. There was sunshine when we arrived, and the sunlight refracted through the trees onto the grass. At that moment, people felt extremely happy.

By Peter Pan loves traveling |

I just saw the redwood forest and grassland. The ticket was not worth 60 yuan, but 30 was barely acceptable!

By On the road |

I would like to ask friends who have been there. Can you ride a motorcycle?

By intuition |

We didn’t actually go to Shenmulei, but the Xiechi Tibetan Village and Xiechi Lake outside were already very beautiful!

By sunshine sister |

The scenery is pretty good, quite primitive. Climbing up the meadow... I was exhausted... Fortunately, the scenery is still okay.

By Yong 050930 |

I went there in October 2017. I was freezing cold, but the scenery was truly beautiful. You have to climb up the mountain to see the best views. It was a wonderful feeling to see the snow-capped mountains through the white clouds. Next time I must conquer Dawa Gengzha. I'd love to see an experienced hiker who can guide me!

By Yong 050930 |

Tickets: Scenic spot tickets are 60.

Transportation: Electric carpooling, it seems to be 10 yuan.

Accommodation: There are many accommodations in the town.

Disadvantages: The shuttle bus is not on time and may reduce the frequency depending on the number of people. So it is best to drive in a group.

By Yat-sen |

It's suitable for summer vacation. The scenery is pretty good. But after seeing the mountains and rivers, I don't have much interest in this place. Dawa Gengzha is opposite. Friends who go there can experience it together.

By Xiao He |

This is the Shenmu Lei I went to during the Qingming Festival. Unfortunately, it rained at that time, so I didn’t see many beautiful scenery. I will go again next time when the weather is good.

By Little C |

It's super beautiful, and you can't miss the place where the gods play.

By remember |

I haven't been there yet, so I don't know if it's good. Has anyone been there? Please give your comments.

By Stone |

The scenery is pretty good, suitable for visiting in autumn. Bring your own tent and sleeping bag, invite a few friends, and go for a wilderness survival game!

By Concave and convex Kate |

Shenmulei is quite surprising. The facilities in the scenic area are all OK. The trees are dense and the heavy snow in winter is a bit dreamy. I don’t know about other seasons, but it’s nice!

By the scientist |

What does this mean? Although I didn’t go in, I knew it was flooded as soon as I saw the gate of the scenic area. It is not recommended to go in.

By 丨丶ove❤ |

Shenmu Lei is a great place to play in the snow without the crowds. I originally wanted to go to Xueling Snow Mountain, but I worried about the crowds and the limited time I'd have to spend there, so I looked for a less crowded place where I could spend two days. I ultimately chose Shenmu Lei and didn't regret it. My kids had a blast. It's off-season there, so many restaurants are closed, but we were still able to find a place to eat. It was already 5 PM when we arrived, and only a few restaurants were open. A larger hotel cost over 200 yuan per night, so the food was a bit pricey. Later, we found a small maocai restaurant. My wife loves maocai (I can't remember the name, but it seems like they all have similar names). The price is reasonable and the maocai is delicious. My daughter and I both loved it. The accommodation was only 80 yuan per night, with hot water and an electric blanket, so it was pretty good. It snowed heavily on the first day of our trip. When we arrived, the snow had melted on the roads, but everywhere else was still snowy. My kids started playing in the snow right outside our hotel. We went to the Shenmulei Scenic Area, but because the snow was so thick, we could only drive as far as parking lot 1. We had to walk up the mountain, so we didn't make it to the summit. We hiked with our kids, playing in the snow, but they didn't want to go any further, so we only made it halfway down. The road was still covered in snow, but the scenery was still beautiful, even for someone who rarely sees snow. On the third day, we built a snowman at the entrance, walked around, had lunch, and then returned to Chengdu when the sun came out. Overall, our goal of playing in the snow was achieved: the air was fresh and the scenery was beautiful. When we woke up in the morning, the trees on the opposite mountain were covered in snow, a beautiful sight. The downside was that there were few other activities to do. You can bring your own snow-playing tools, but it's okay; the owner sells them; the price is unspecified. Also, after passing Baoxing, the road was covered in snow, so drive slowly and don't brake suddenly. I bought snow chains, but they didn't work because there wasn't much snow, and the snow was only on the Yinshan side, so the roads were patchy. In short, drive slowly when you encounter snowy roads! Also, after you get off the highway (below Mingshan Mountain), there are a lot of mobile speed cameras (I remember seeing three). It's best to drive according to the regulations, otherwise you'll easily get a ticket. There's also a Shangjiu Festival on the ninth day of the first lunar month, which seems to be very crowded. If you don't want to be too crowded, go early. That's about it. I hope this helps.

Shenmu Lei, located in Baoxing County, Ya'an City, Sichuan Province, is a national 4A-level tourist attraction and a national ecological tourism demonstration zone. Located on the Siguniang Mountain-Wolong Loop in western Sichuan, it's a niche tourist destination.

By 0Gu Song0 |

The scenery is beautiful and it is recommended to go and see the local customs.

By Heavy rain causes flooding |

The entrance to the scenic area is located in Qiaochi Tibetan Village, Baoxing County. There is not much to see in winter.

We just walked around the gate of the scenic area.

By Uncle Satellite~ |

It's a truly boring place. I'd rather visit nearby Jiajin Mountain or Dongla Mountain than here. The scenery itself is just a forest, a flat-topped slope, and a herd of cattle.

By Wei Cake(*^^*) |

The scenery is okay, but there is nothing there without taking a car to the top.

By Seuysiro |

The scenic area is very large and many areas are yet to be developed. I may come again.

By Qingjiang Passerby |

I feel that the scenery of Shenmu Lei scenic area itself is very ordinary, and the ticket price is 60 yuan. However, the Xieqi Lake on the way to Shenmu Lei looks good and is free.

By Wu Chengyu |

The facilities are too poor and the management level is low. When we came, there was only one sightseeing bus and a large number of tourists had to walk.

By Welcoming Pine |

You can drive into Shenmu Lei by buying a ticket, but Dawa Gengza is my destination. You can drive all the way to the viewing platform at the top of the mountain and stay in the Tibetan village below Shenmu Lei at night. There are very few people in early April.

By elegant |

May I ask everyone, do I drive up the mountain by myself or take a sightseeing bus? Also, how much is the entrance fee for the scenic spot? Thank you 🙏

By Traveler |

Shenmu Lei is located in Baoxing County, Sichuan Province, about 50 kilometers away from the county seat, with an altitude of about 3,000 meters. The Shenmu Lei original ecological scenic area is located in the west of Qiaoqi Tibetan Township, Baoxing. It is part of Jiajin Mountain National Forest Park and the provincial scenic area Jiajin Mountain Scenic Area. The scenic area covers an area of about 40 square kilometers, with an altitude of 2,300 to 4,300 meters. The main landscapes are forests, snow-capped mountains, streams, alpine meadows, and alpine calcified flow pools.

In January 2016, the National Tourism Administration and the Ministry of Environmental Protection planned to designate the Shenmulei Ecological Tourism Area in Ya'an City, Sichuan Province as a national ecological tourism demonstration area.

By Half awake and half drunk day after day |

The beauty is beyond imagination, and there are not many tourists in the scenic area. Highly recommended!

By China-TravelNote users |

It is a good place to escape the summer heat. There is a horse riding field there now. The service is very good and it is cheap. If you have not ridden a horse in Tibet, don’t say you have been to Tibet.

By dodo |

The scenic area exceeded our expectations. The area is large, with two routes, but we only hiked one, which took 2-3 hours. Hikers are advised to allow extra time, and those who prefer a less tiring experience can take a sightseeing bus. The redwood forest is covered in small yellow flowers (see Picture 4). There are many free-range horses, cattle, and pigs on the meadow (see Picture 3). The scenery is even more beautiful after ascending the Shenmu Ladder (see Pictures 1 and 2).

By Unfortunately, summer weather |

Shenmulei was not originally among our travel destinations, but we are very glad that we did not give up such a paradise-like attraction. The alpine meadow under the flowing clouds is particularly beautiful, especially the lake next to it. Surprisingly, all the quiet scenery is so beautiful.

Shenmu Lei is located in Baoxing County, Sichuan Province, about 50 kilometers from the county seat, at an altitude of about 3,000 meters. I went there a little early, around 2011, and the local accommodation and food were very cheap. I especially recommend a beef soup pot there, which tasted so good!

By Liu Zhen |

I went there during the Dragon Boat Festival, and there weren't many tourists, so it was very pleasant. It's a pity that there wasn't blue sky and white clouds that day, but the cloudy and misty sky also has its own unique flavor. The scenery is nice and natural. We hiked from the parking lot to the alpine meadow and encountered many small animals, which was very interesting. Due to time constraints, we didn't go to another route, but I was very satisfied with the alpine meadow. It's not far from Chengdu, the road is easy to walk, and the ticket price is reasonable. It's worth a visit.

The Shenmulei Scenic Area is not well developed, and many places in the scenic area are not developed. However, walking in the forest, the air is fresh, and there are many horses and sheep roaming around in the scenic area, making it like a primitive pasture.

It has its own unique and mysterious places! It is definitely worth a visit! But you need to discover it! See the Shenmu Lei that others have never seen!

By You don't |

There are not many tourists, and the prayer flags on the top of the mountain are particularly characteristic of the Tibetan area. It is very suitable for those who want to relax and unwind.

By amr |

The scenery is nice, the altitude is not high, and climbing the mountain is also nice.

By Water droplets in the sun |

It is really a place where gods play, a pristine ecological scenic spot, and a beautiful view worth visiting...

By Idle passers-by |

It's so beautiful, it feels like a paradise, undisturbed by outsiders.

By Ctu-North Latitude |

The four seasons are all beautiful. I went there in winter because the snow was thick. I went there to see the red leaves in autumn and to camp in summer.

By Corn Five Less |

Shenmulei, don’t be mysterious. Climbing the stone steps will make your legs sore. When you reach the top and look out into the distance, you will know what it is like. Don’t go any further.

By Flower bed cover |

In February, Shenmulei was covered with snow.

My bestie and I didn't plan our trip well, so we had to change buses multiple times, which wasted time. Another option is to go to Ya'an first and then take a bus to Baoxing. The bus fare is very cheap, and from Baoxing, you can take a direct bus to Shenmulei for only 18 yuan. The road is a bit bumpy because it's mountainous, but the scenery along the way is beautiful.

The innkeeper said every house there is a hotel, and the price is 60 yuan per night. You can try to bargain. It was so cold when we went there, and the innkeeper said most of the people in the village had gone down the mountain for the winter, so it was almost deserted. I thought it was quite nice, and walking on the road was very enjoyable. We arrived quite late, and I regretted not going up the mountain to explore. I'll try again next time I have the chance.

PS: The earliest bus to Shenmulei down the mountain is at 7:30 am and the latest is at 3:00 pm

If you want to go, you can plan an extra day and take the earliest bus. If it is too cold, there may be no buses.

First, take a bus from Shiyangchang Station to Ya'an City, then transfer from Ya'an City to Lushan County, then from Lushan County to Baoxing County, and finally from Baoxing to Xieqi. Shenmu Lei is near Xieqi Station. However, I'm not sure if there's a direct bus from Lushan to Xieqi. I'm driving myself. I left at 4 PM the previous day, arrived in Lushan around 6 PM, and spent the night there. The next day, I left at 9 AM and traveled via Baoxing to Shenmu Lei in Xieqi, arriving around 12 PM. If you're traveling entirely by car, it'll take an entire day. I recommend spending the night in Lushan or Baoxing the previous day, then visiting Shenmu Lei the next day. Admission is 60 RMB, and a standard room in a hotel near Lushan, Baoxing, and Shenmu Lei costs around 80 RMB per night (you can ask the hotel for breakfast included). There's not much to see now; the best time is mid-October for the Red Leaf Festival. I went a few days ago, and it was quite challenging. However, there are fewer people now, so it's quiet. The air is fresh and perfect for relaxing. It is quite comfortable to roast a whole lamb and dance around the bonfire at night.

By Girls don't spit out grape skins |

I went there during the National Day holiday. It's relatively unpopular, but the scenery along the way is nice, and most of the accommodation is in farmhouses!

By Dasong is an unlucky guy |

I had high expectations before my visit, but was disappointed. The road has been under construction since leaving Baoxing County, and it's incredibly bad. If you don't have an SUV, I highly recommend avoiding it; it's incredibly difficult to navigate. We went in December, and while it didn't snow, the weather was bad, so the scenery was average. It was the tail end of autumn, and we saw some yellow leaves, which was still beautiful. It would have been even better if it had snowed. The scenic area isn't large, but you can see quite a few cattle and sheep. They're very relaxed and don't seem to be bothered by passersby. Due to the weather, the mountain was very foggy, probably because the sun wasn't shining. The advantage of visiting during the off-season is that accommodation is very affordable, with a room costing under 60 yuan, which is quite good. The area is also very uncrowded, so if the weather cooperates, it's a good option. Also, you can bargain for off-season entrance fees, and we paid around 30 yuan per person, which is quite a bargain. Locals also offer barbecued lamb, but the prices are quite high, so you'll need to bargain carefully. After descending the mountain, I recommend visiting Xieqi Lake, which offers beautiful scenery and beautiful waters. In general, if the weather is good and the car has good off-road performance, Shenmuli is still a good choice.

By cooper |

The scenery is average and there are few attractions. You can only pick mushrooms there, hahaha

By Delicate Goose |

The air is fresh deep in the mountains, and the Tibetans' grilled beef is delicious! It's just that the leaves haven't turned yellow yet these days, so the scenery should be great by the end of the month!

By Daifu Egg |

It's okay. I've seen enough of the scenery in Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan. It's not developed much and the public areas are not up to par. It's a relatively non-mainstream scenic spot.
