Lake Manasarovar

Mapang Yumtso was originally named "Machui" or "Machuicuo", which is the name of the Dragon King of Wealth in Bon religion. Buddhist scriptures say that there were four dragon kings in the four sacred lakes. At first, they always stirred up trouble and harmed the people. During the Tang Dynasty, when King Trisong Detsen of Tibet was in power, Padmasambhava showed his magical powers and subdued the four dragon kings, making them convert to Buddhism and gradually become the four guardian gods of Tibetan Buddhism. From then on, "Machuicuo" was also renamed "Mapang Yumtso", sometimes written as "Mafamucuo", which means "eternal and invincible jade lake" in Tibetan.

Finally we arrived at the lake. It was the first time in my life that I got close to the holy lake Manasarovar. There was a layer of ice floating on the lake and the sound of the waves was not very loud. Since the sun had not risen completely, we did not see any sparkling scenes. Instead, the lone Mount Kailash in the distance looked much more beautiful.

We drove to the place where the sun was shining, but we still didn't set foot on the lakeside beach. The water birds in the distance were paddling lazily.

The ducks are so leisurely. Maybe there are fewer people who have seen them than they have seen ducks, so they gather together to look at us.

Although the sun is rising higher and higher, the direct angle of sunlight is also getting larger, so Mount Kailash is becoming clearer and clearer. Beside the eternal Jade Lake, this beautiful scenery will not be wasted no matter how you shoot it.

By Dream Good |

When we arrived at Lake Manasarovar, we didn't go down to the lake because we had to pay 150 per person if we were seen by Tibetans. So we took a few photos on the slope and left! Actually, we felt that other lakes were not so amazing after coming from Yanghu Lake! But to be honest, Lake Manasarovar is still very beautiful. It is very pure, unlike the muddy Laang Lake behind!

By Ethan |

The terrain is open and there is no shelter. The wind is so fast that the car doors cannot be opened. The prayer flags by the lake are blown parallel to the ground. Although there is still sunshine, the temperature is obviously very low. The most important thing at this time is to protect the head. If the head catches a cold, it will be more likely to suffer from altitude sickness.

It was late afternoon when we passed by Lake Manasarovar on the way here, and it was morning when we returned. The morning light was fresher and brighter, reflecting the refreshing and blue surface of the lake. We drove along the path into the depths of the lake, and the meadows on both sides changed colors, and with the wind, they receded behind the car like colorful waves.

The towering snow-capped mountains surround the blue lake. The morning clouds are blown away by the strong wind on the open plateau. Wild antelopes wander freely by the lake. This was the scene one year, ten years, and a hundred years ago, and it has never changed.

By Cold autumn night |

The temperature near the lake is very low, quite cold. As one of the three holy lakes in Tibet, Mapang Yongcuo is not as famous as Nam Co and Yamdrok Yumtso, but it is the most difficult to reach and the most sacred of the three. You must check in and take photos. If the weather is good, you can see Mount Kailash from Mapang Yongcuo. Because it was cloudy, Mount Kailash was covered by fog, but we were lucky enough to see the "Goddess Peak" Namnani Peak.

By Desert Smoke |

Mapang Yongcuo is also known as Mafamucuo. It means "invincible lake" in Tibetan. It is located between the main peak of Gangdise Mountain, Mount Gangrinboqi, and the Namnawi Peak of the Himalayas, in Purang County, Ngari Prefecture. The lake is 4,588 meters above sea level. The lake is in the shape of a "duck pear", wide in the north and narrow in the south, 26 kilometers long in the long axis and 21 kilometers long in the short axis. The average water depth is 46 meters, the maximum water depth is 81.8 meters, and the area is 412 square kilometers. The lake water is clear and transparent, with a transparency of 14 meters. The natural scenery around it is very beautiful. Since ancient times, Buddhist believers and Bon believers have regarded it as a holy place "world center". It is one of the three "holy lakes" of Tibetan religion. Mapang Yongcuo is the largest freshwater lake in China with transparent and elegant water. It is also the birthplace of the four major rivers in Asia. It has the reputation of "the mother of the world's rivers". It is the place called "Western Heaven Yaochi" by Xuanzang, a Tang Dynasty monk, in "The Great Tang Records on the Western Regions". Mapam Yumtso and Mount Kailash face each other from afar. There are many temples of various sects and historical sites around the sacred mountain and holy lake. Mapam Yumtso is called "holy lake" in Buddhism. Every summer and autumn, Buddhists bring their elders and children to "make a pilgrimage" here and "bathe and purify themselves" in the "holy water" to "prolong their lives".

By Thousand Miles Dream |

Many people who come to travel choose to stay here, but I don’t recommend staying in Jiwu Village. Although it is close to the lake, it is too low and you can’t see the most beautiful scenery of the lake and mountains. On the hillside on the way to Laang Co, you can find a place overlooking the holy lake. It is really beautiful at first sight!

The color of the lake seems bluer than the sky.

By GAGA |

The birthplace of Asia’s four major rivers, it is known as the “Mother of the World’s Rivers”. It is also one of the three sacred lakes in Tibet and the freshwater lake with the highest water transparency.

By La La & Ha Ha |

In the hearts of Tibetans, Mount Kailash represents the masculine sun, the father god, while Lake Manasarovar represents the gentle moon, the mother goddess. In this holy land where the sun and the moon shine, ordinary people are favored by God even if they stay for just a moment.

From a religious perspective, Mount Kailash is recognized as a "sacred mountain" by Tibetans and Indians. It is considered the center of the world by Bon, Hinduism and Tibetan Buddhism.

By Caterpillar & Acne Dragon |

Sandwiched between Mount Kailash and Mount Namunani is Lake Manasarovar. Actually, you can see the holy lake as early as when you enter Hor Township, but now a viewing area has been built there. You must buy a ticket to the lake, 150/person. I thought that before entering Purang County, I drove along Lake Manasarovar without stopping. Could such a large lake be completely fenced? Later, it turned out that it was true. But in fact, if you are not a believer and do not need to circumambulate the lake, there is no need to go to the lake. There are several free viewing platforms along the way.

By Ning Xiaoxin |

Maybe it's because of the sunshine, the water of Lake Manasarovar looks darker blue, and because the water of the lake varies in depth, people can see all kinds of blue mixed together when they look at it from a high place, while Laangcuo is pure bright blue, and the two lakes are easy to distinguish. Finally, I found the "signboard" of Lake Manasarovar, and the surrounding area is full of prayer flags, which is very Tibetan. From here, you can have a wider view of Lake Manasarovar, a piece of blue. Not many people come to Ali at this time, and you can take the best angles everywhere. The last peak of the year will come during the National Day, so it is recommended that you travel during off-peak hours, after all, it is really not easy to come to Ali.

Lake Manasarovar is the most sacred lake, the nectar bestowed by the great deity Chakravartin to the world. The holy water can cleanse the troubles and sins in people's hearts. It is the oldest and most sacred place among all the holy places of Bon, Indian Buddhism and Hinduism. It is the perfect lake in the heart, the real paradise in this universe, the Shangri-La of the gods, and the paradise of all things. Hinduism says it is the residence of Lord Shiva. Lake Manasarovar is a freshwater lake.

By Star Traveler |

The water is amazing! There is no other! Not only is it blue, but it also has many different colors.

By Who drank my pure milk? |

After turning a corner, you can see a blue wave shining in front of you. That is Lake Manasarovar. Although it is just the tip of the iceberg, it is shocking enough. Under the sunlight, it becomes extremely dreamy.

Lake Manasarovar is a perfect place to take panoramic photos. Being in this kind of scene, you will feel very small. I even felt a little scared.

It is so beautiful. I have never seen such a beautiful scenery in my life. It is really worth it.

The water of Manasarovar is actually more beautiful. You can see that the water near the Namunani Peak is turquoise blue, while the water on the other side is a little gray.

By Camel Balls |

What caught my eye was Lake Manasarovar. Its sapphire blue water and the towering Mount Namunani beside the lake were stunningly beautiful. Today I finally got to see its true appearance. When we drove to the lake, we met the staff responsible for tourism management. Here, we only need to buy a ticket per person, and the car does not need to pay to drive into the lake. We followed the staff's instructions and drove along the lake, walking and strolling. At the lake, we were lucky enough to see a rainstorm cloud, as if it was raining.

By Love you forever |

At the foot of Mount Namunani, the horizon is faintly visible with azure blue water. That is the famous Lake Manasarovar! Lake Manasarovar has a tranquil beauty under the sunset. I stood far away by the lake, letting my body and mind blend into this land and letting my soul receive the essence of nature.

By Feng |

The holy lake is so beautiful, so beautiful that I want to kneel down and worship it. Well, I really kneel down and worship it. It feels like sunset at this time, and the holy lake looks even more beautiful and peaceful.

By Quiet Soldier |

The lake can be seen from a long distance, and the entire lake is nestled at the foot of the snow-capped mountains. The road that can be driven in has become the entrance to the scenic area. We walked to the lake in a car with four people. The road that looks not far is actually very long. It took us half an hour to think that we had reached the end. Across light and shadow, across silence and noise, we quietly experienced Lake Manasarovar. The vast lake is like the sea; the calm lake surface sparkles with stars under the dazzling sunlight; the lake water presents the blue color that can only be seen in plateau lakes; I picked up a small stone as a souvenir. Finally, I saw the holy lake that I had been thinking about. It took about an hour to continue walking to the lake, and finally I had to give up.

By Walker |

I was stunned by the beauty in front of me. In front of me was the azure holy lake Manasarovar, which was dust-free. On the left was the snowy peak of Namunani, which seemed to be right in front of me. On the right was the famous sacred mountain Gang Rinpoche. Time seemed to have stopped. Sitting here, even if I just ate a piece of bread or an apple, it would be too luxurious! I was completely captivated by the clear water. At that time, I didn't know that Manasarovar was the purest freshwater lake in China. I was just deeply intoxicated and felt like the richest and most favored woman in the world.

I didn't expect there were so many surprises around Mapang Yumtso. Under the guidance of humanities experts, we visited Mapang Bumukha Castle, one of the four central castles of the Xiangxiong Tribal Alliance, which is the Queen's Castle of the Western Queen's Kingdom. Can you imagine this kind of surprise, crossing mountains and ridges at an altitude of more than 4,600 meters, risking being blown away by the strong wind, to visit the Kingdom of Women. There are only a few fragments of the ruins of the Kingdom of Women left for future generations to imagine, and what I care more about is not the history, vicissitudes, etc., but the sourness of crossing mountains and ridges at 4,800 meters, the howling wind, the horses on the hillside, the fat and agile snow rabbits, the flying birds, the colorful flowers and plants, and the big fungus like a steamed bun... I have the happiness of the present, I am here, and I am satisfied.

By KSY |

It is like a huge sapphire inlaid in the wide valley between the Gangdise Mountains and the Himalayas, with a tranquil, deep, and majestic blue.

The mountains after the snow and the steaming clouds make the majestic Mapam Yumtso become quiet and elegant.

There is a sign on the lakeside that prohibits bathing, but it also indicates the water fetching point. Believers need to fetch water from the lake with buckets and then go to the hut built in the village by the lake to bathe.

Lake Mapam Yumtso appeared before our eyes. Today’s plan was to view Lake Mapam Yumtso from a distance, which made us scream and start taking photos as soon as we got off the car.

By Lang Lang Bao |

I was conquered by the beauty of the plateau. Before, Yanghu Lake gave me a beautiful feeling, but Manasarovar Lake gave me a shocking feeling. Is this a lake? No, it's the sea! The wind is strong, the waves are also big, the sea under the snow-capped mountains! It is said that Manasarovar Lake is connected to the bottom of Laangcuo Lake, one side is a freshwater holy lake, and the other side is a saltwater ghost lake.

Walking around Lake Manasarovar and Lake Laang in the biting cold wind. The two lakes are adjacent to each other. Lake Manasarovar is full of water birds, but Lake Laang is lifeless, without even a single water bird. Lake Manasarovar is calm, but Lake Laang is turbulent. No wonder Lake Laang is called a ghost lake, it really looks a little bit eerie.

Buddhists regard it as a holy place, the "center of the world". It is the second largest natural freshwater lake in China in terms of water storage capacity and the freshwater lake with the highest water transparency. It is also one of the three "sacred lakes" in Tibet. It is also the source of four major rivers in Asia.

When you are about to leave the holy lake, there is a viewing point in the parking area. After parking the car here, you can hike to the lake. Please note that the altitude is very high. If you don't have enough physical strength, don't hike. Be careful that you have the physical strength to hike to the lake, but not the physical strength to return to the parking point.

It is one of the three "sacred lakes" in Tibet and the source of four major rivers in Asia.

Because it is located in the Ali Plateau, it feels more mysterious than Yanghu Lake and Namtso Lake.

It is also the source of four rivers: Shiquan River, Xiangquan River, Maquan River and Peacock River.

The ghost lake Laangcuo, the sacred mountain Gang Rinpoche and the Himalayas also add to its popularity.

The "source of the four great rivers" recorded in the Abhidharmakosha of the ancient Zhangzhung Buddhist Bon religion refers to the mother of the holy lakes, Lake Mapam Yumtso.

The east is the Maquan River, the south is the Kongque River, the west is the Xiangquan River, and the north is the Shiquan River. "Mapang Yumtso" - "Invincible Jade Lake", in Tibetan, "Mapang" means undefeated and invincible.

By I-am-kitten |

It is so beautiful, Lake Manasarovar. Namtso and Lake Yamdrok are not as beautiful as the vast and blue Lake Manasarovar. It is beyond words.

Many Indians come to the lake for pilgrimage.

By Toot |

The beauty of the lake, in addition to its own beauty, also needs the backdrop of blue sky and white clouds to show its stunning beauty. On rainy days, the scenery is greatly reduced.

Like Qinghai Lake, the locals will enclose the lakeside with iron nets and charge a fee. The lakeside at the bottom of the hill is not enclosed and there is no charge, so cars can drive directly to the roadside.

By yanyan0204 |

There are 8 temples around Lake Manasarovar, which are distributed on all sides of the lake. In summer and autumn, Buddhists bring their elders and children to make pilgrimages here. When I went there in August, I saw Tibetans circumambulating the lake in groups. I also saw Tibetans picking up garbage by the lake. The sun shines on Lake Manasarovar, which looks particularly charming.

Next to the Namuani Peak is one of the three sacred lakes in Tibet. The lake can be seen from a long distance, and the entire lake is nestled at the foot of the snow-capped mountains. Although the water of Lake Manasarovar is the deep blue color common in plateau lakes, it is indescribably blue, especially under the sunlight, with stars shining on the dark lake surface. It seems that a sky curtain has suddenly been drawn in front of your eyes, with blue sky, white clouds, snow-capped mountains, and clear water, like a dreamlike scene.

Mapang Yumtso: Meaning "eternal jade lake" in Tibetan, it is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet. It is clear and peaceful all year round. It is said that Mapang Yumtso is the most sacred lake, and the holy water can cleanse the troubles and sins in people's hearts. Hindus go to the lake to bathe in groups to wash away the hardships of life and the anxiety in their hearts. It is the oldest and most sacred place among all the holy places of Bon religion, Indian Buddhism and Hinduism, and it is the perfect lake in the hearts of believers.

By Drunk alone |

Mapam Yumtso, in Tibetan, means "eternal jade lake". Looking down from a high place, Mapam Yumtso is shaped like a full moon, with blue water, gently rippling blue waves, and white clouds and snow-capped peaks reflected in it, creating a beautiful scenery. Perhaps due to the beautiful scenery, proud geographical location, and the spirituality of the dense flora and fauna of Mapam Yumtso, it has been endowed with various mysterious religious meanings. Many religious books and legends have recorded and described Mapam Yumtso. In Buddhist scriptures, a lake was once called "the mother of the world's rivers", referring to Mapam Yumtso. Indian legends say that this is the place where Lord Shiva and his wife, the goddess Uma, the daughter of the Himalayas, bathed, while ancient Tibetan legends believe that this is where the dragon god Guangcai lives. In "A Record of the Western Regions of the Great Tang Dynasty" written by Xuanzang when he went to India to seek Buddhist scriptures, this lake was also called the "Western Queen Mother Yaochi".

There are three holy lakes in Tibet, and Lake Manasarovar is one of them. The other two are Lake Namtso and Lake Yamdrok.

According to legend, the water of Lake Mapang Yongcuo is "very sweet" and drinking it can eliminate "hundreds of lifetimes of sins." The beauty of Manasarovar Lake lies in its tranquility and purity! As the freshwater lake with the highest water transparency in China, there are no waves on the lake surface, and the deep blue water is as pure as a mirror. Manasarovar Lake's status as the king of holy lakes is unquestionable even for ordinary tourists. The clear lake water and the blue sky are reflected, broad and open. The lake is surrounded by the Namunani Snow Mountain, and the scenery is amazing. Tianya Outdoor Travel Club recommends the best season: May to late June. During this period, there are many good weather, and it may last for 6-8 days. The rainy season starts in early July, and the most precipitation is in July and August.

As one of the three sacred lakes in Tibet, Mapang Yumtso is not as famous as Namtso and Yamdrok Yumtso, but it is the most difficult to reach and the most sacred of the three.

People who come to Tibet with a yearning for natural scenery are often disappointed at first sight.

Between the vast heaven and earth, besides the blue sky and the yellow earth, there is only the white of ice and snow and the green of flowing water. It is low-key and peaceful, without any outward splendor.

Only when you go deeper will you gradually realize that such "monotony" contains stunning beauty.

The sacred lake Manasarovar in this season is slightly inferior to the ghost lake Laangcuo. It's not that the sacred lake is not beautiful, but that the ghost lake is too stunning.

The altitude is almost the same, but due to the different lake surface area and orientation, Laang Co freezes earlier. The ice and snow in the outer lake area are mixed with mud and sand, forming large cracks under the action of wind erosion, which glow golden under the setting sun.

As we go deeper into the inner lake area, the snow retreats and ice forms. The ice blocks that had frozen earlier on the lake surface crack and explode under the action of the water flow, forming a spectacular ice explosion landscape.

The water of the sacred lake is within reach, icy cold, and applying it on the forehead is a kind of piety.

I didn't buy a ticket to the scenic area. I drove into a small road and saw the whole lake and Namunani Peak on a small hill. I also had a picnic facing the holy lake.

After running for more than 300 kilometers, we finally arrived at the shore of Lake Manasarovar in the afternoon. What I saw and felt in my heart is beyond words. So, please forgive me for using the most vulgar language to describe it: there is grass by the lake, red grass, green grass, mixed together and looking golden from a distance; the meadow extends into the lake, and there are birds, big and small, flying or swimming, chirping non-stop; the lake is surrounded by mountains, each towering into the clouds, the mountains and clouds are connected, a white area is reflected in the lake, and is kneaded by the waves of the lake, like milk sprinkled on the lake, flowing everywhere; there are endless people walking around the lake, in groups of two or three, the sound comes from a distance but no one is seen, and when there is no sound, they suddenly appear and disappear in a flash... This is a lake with sound and color, but it is so quiet and pure, that's all.

Mapang Yumtso is located in the south of Mount Gang Rinpoche. It is the second largest natural freshwater lake in China and one of the three holy lakes in Tibet (Nam Co, Yangzhuo Yumtso and Mapang Yumtso). It is the most sacred lake and the nectar bestowed by the Great Lord of Joy to the world. The holy water can cleanse the troubles and evils in people's hearts. In Tibetan, "Mapang" means undefeated and invincible. Mapang Yumtso is an invincible jade lake.

The lake is clear and transparent, the natural scenery is beautiful, and the water birds are flying over the lake, which is full of vitality. The only drawback is that the clouds are too thick today, and the sun can't shine through the gaps to the lake. Today's journey is not far, we just squandered time by the lake, chasing the water birds that stayed on the shore, watching the Tibetans playing by the water, and wondering if they are ready to circumambulate the lake. It is said that it takes 5 days to circumambulate the lake.

The best place to take photos of Lake Manasarovar is on the slope of Jiwu Temple, where you can overlook the entire lake, or you can drive towards the lake along the gravel road beside the lake.

Mapam Yumtso is located in Purang County, Ngari, at an altitude of 4,588 meters. Mapam Yumtso and Laang Co, which is located a short distance away, are both sheltered by the same sacred mountain, Namnanyi Peak. However, Mapam Yumtso, Namtso and Yanghu Lake are known as the three sacred lakes in Tibet, while Laang Co is known as the ghost lake! The beauty of Mapam Yumtso lies in its tranquility and purity! It is the freshwater lake with the highest water transparency in China. There are no waves on the lake, and the deep blue water is as pure as a mirror. The ticket to Mapam Yumtso is 150 yuan, and you can also watch it from a distance through the fence made of prayer flags on the road to Purang County, which is also a good choice! Mapam Yumtso is the residence of the Hindu Shiva, so you can often see Hindu pilgrims coming to the lake.

There is a fee to enter the scenic area. When the weather is good, the scenery by the lake is very beautiful.

One of the three holy lakes, you still have to come and see it. It is just opposite Mount Kailash.

You have to go to the observation deck near Laang Co to see the holy lake and feel its beauty up close.

It was cloudy when I went there, so the lake didn't seem as blue as what was posted online. I think it's only when the blue sky is reflected in the lake that it looks blue. From this angle, it's probably best to visit Tibet in the dry season to see the lake.

I didn't buy a ticket. I suggest you climb the small hill by the lake. There are wild flowers on the hill. The lake is more beautiful from a higher angle.
