Lake Manasarovar

Finally we arrived at the lake. It was the first time in my life that I got close to the holy lake Manasarovar. There was a layer of ice floating on the lake and the sound of the waves was not very loud. Since the sun had not risen completely, we did not see any sparkling scenes. Instead, the lone Mount Kailash in the distance looked much more beautiful.

We drove to the place where the sun was shining, but we still didn't set foot on the lakeside beach. The water birds in the distance were paddling lazily.

The ducks are so leisurely. Maybe there are fewer people who have seen them than they have seen ducks, so they gather together to look at us.

Although the sun is rising higher and higher, the direct angle of sunlight is also getting larger, so Mount Kailash is becoming clearer and clearer. Beside the eternal Jade Lake, this beautiful scenery will not be wasted no matter how you shoot it.

When we arrived at Lake Manasarovar, we didn't go down to the lake because we had to pay 150 per person if we were seen by Tibetans. So we took a few photos on the slope and left! Actually, we felt that other lakes were not so amazing after coming from Yanghu Lake! But to be honest, Lake Manasarovar is still very beautiful. It is very pure, unlike the muddy Laang Lake behind!

The terrain is open and there is no shelter. The wind is so fast that the car doors cannot be opened. The prayer flags by the lake are blown parallel to the ground. Although there is still sunshine, the temperature is obviously very low. The most important thing at this time is to protect the head. If the head catches a cold, it will be more likely to suffer from altitude sickness.

It was late afternoon when we passed by Lake Manasarovar on the way here, and it was morning when we returned. The morning light was fresher and brighter, reflecting the refreshing and blue surface of the lake. We drove along the path into the depths of the lake, and the meadows on both sides changed colors, and with the wind, they receded behind the car like colorful waves.

The towering snow-capped mountains surround the blue lake. The morning clouds are blown away by the strong wind on the open plateau. Wild antelopes wander freely by the lake. This was the scene one year, ten years, and a hundred years ago, and it has never changed.

The temperature near the lake is very low, quite cold. As one of the three holy lakes in Tibet, Mapang Yongcuo is not as famous as Nam Co and Yamdrok Yumtso, but it is the most difficult to reach and the most sacred of the three. You must check in and take photos. If the weather is good, you can see Mount Kailash from Mapang Yongcuo. Because it was cloudy, Mount Kailash was covered by fog, but we were lucky enough to see the "Goddess Peak" Namnani Peak.

Mapang Yongcuo is also known as Mafamucuo. It means "invincible lake" in Tibetan. It is located between the main peak of Gangdise Mountain, Mount Gangrinboqi, and the Namnawi Peak of the Himalayas, in Purang County, Ngari Prefecture. The lake is 4,588 meters above sea level. The lake is in the shape of a "duck pear", wide in the north and narrow in the south, 26 kilometers long in the long axis and 21 kilometers long in the short axis. The average water depth is 46 meters, the maximum water depth is 81.8 meters, and the area is 412 square kilometers. The lake water is clear and transparent, with a transparency of 14 meters. It is the place called "Western Heaven Yaochi" by Xuanzang, a Tang Dynasty monk, in "The Great Tang Records on the Western Regions". Mapam Yumtso and Mount Kailash face each other from afar. There are many temples of various sects and historical sites around the sacred mountain and holy lake. Mapam Yumtso is called "holy lake" in Buddhism. Every summer and autumn, Buddhists bring their elders and children to "make a pilgrimage" here and "bathe and purify themselves" in the "holy water" to "prolong their lives".

Many people who come to travel choose to stay here, but I don’t recommend staying in Jiwu Village. Although it is close to the lake, it is too low and you can’t see the most beautiful scenery of the lake and mountains. On the hillside on the way to Laang Co, you can find a place overlooking the holy lake. It is really beautiful at first sight!

The color of the lake seems bluer than the sky.

Later, it turned out that it was true. But in fact, if you are not a believer and do not need to circumambulate the lake, there is no need to go to the lake. There are several free viewing platforms along the way.

Maybe it's because of the sunshine, the water of Lake Manasarovar looks darker blue, and because the water of the lake varies in depth, people can see all kinds of blue mixed together when they look at it from a high place, while Laangcuo is pure bright blue, and the two lakes are easy to distinguish. Finally, I found the "signboard" of Lake Manasarovar, and the surrounding area is full of prayer flags, which is very Tibetan. From here, you can have a wider view of Lake Manasarovar, a piece of blue. Not many people come to Ali at this time, and you can take the best angles everywhere. The last peak of the year will come during the National Day, so it is recommended that you travel during off-peak hours, after all, it is really not easy to come to Ali.

Lake Manasarovar is the most sacred lake, the nectar bestowed by the great deity Chakravartin to the world. The holy water can cleanse the troubles and sins in people's hearts. When we drove to the lake, we met the staff responsible for tourism management. Here, we only need to buy a ticket per person, and the car does not need to pay to drive into the lake. We followed the staff's instructions and drove along the lake, walking and strolling. At the lake, we were lucky enough to see a rainstorm cloud, as if it was raining.

At the foot of Mount Namunani, the horizon is faintly visible with azure blue water. That is the famous Lake Manasarovar! Lake Manasarovar has a tranquil beauty under the sunset. I stood far away by the lake, letting my body and mind blend into this land and letting my soul receive the essence of nature.

We walked to the lake in a car with four people. The road that looks not far is actually very long. It took us half an hour to think that we had reached the end. Across light and shadow, across silence and noise, we quietly experienced Lake Manasarovar. The vast lake is like the sea; the calm lake surface sparkles with stars under the dazzling sunlight; the lake water presents the blue color that can only be seen in plateau lakes; I picked up a small stone as a souvenir. Finally, I saw the holy lake that I had been thinking about. It took about an hour to continue walking to the lake, and finally I had to give up.

I was stunned by the beauty in front of me. In front of me was the azure holy lake Manasarovar, which was dust-free. On the left was the snowy peak of Namunani, which seemed to be right in front of me. On the right was the famous sacred mountain Gang Rinpoche. Time seemed to have stopped. Sitting here, even if I just ate a piece of bread or an apple, it would be too luxurious! I was completely captivated by the clear water. At that time, I didn't know that Manasarovar was the purest freshwater lake in China. I was just deeply intoxicated and felt like the richest and most favored woman in the world.

I didn't expect there were so many surprises around Mapang Yumtso. Under the guidance of humanities experts, we visited Mapang Bumukha Castle, one of the four central castles of the Xiangxiong Tribal Alliance, which is the Queen's Castle of the Western Queen's Kingdom. Can you imagine this kind of surprise, crossing mountains and ridges at an altitude of more than 4,600 meters, risking being blown away by the strong wind, to visit the Kingdom of Women. There are only a few fragments of the ruins of the Kingdom of Women left for future generations to imagine, and what I care more about is not the history, vicissitudes, etc., but the sourness of crossing mountains and ridges at 4,800 meters, the howling wind, the horses on the hillside, the fat and agile snow rabbits, the flying birds, the colorful flowers and plants, and the big fungus like a steamed bun... I have the happiness of the present, I am here, and I am satisfied.

It is like a huge sapphire inlaid in the wide valley between the Gangdise Mountains and the Himalayas, with a tranquil, deep, and majestic blue.

The mountains after the snow and the steaming clouds make the majestic Mapam Yumtso become quiet and elegant.

There is a sign on the lakeside that prohibits bathing, but it also indicates the water fetching point. Believers need to fetch water from the lake with buckets and then go to the hut built in the village by the lake to bathe.

Walking around Lake Manasarovar and Lake Laang in the biting cold wind. The two lakes are adjacent to each other. Lake Manasarovar is full of water birds, but Lake Laang is lifeless, without even a single water bird. Lake Manasarovar is calm, but Lake Laang is turbulent. No wonder Lake Laang is called a ghost lake, it really looks a little bit eerie.

The Holy Lake is as beautiful as its reputation. We arrived at sunset, and the sunset glow of the Holy Lake shocked us. The next day, the Holy Lake was so beautiful that we were speechless.

It was cloudy when I went there, and now it is protected and people are not allowed to go to the lakeside, so I didn’t feel its beauty. It would have been beautiful if it was sunny!

There are 8 temples around Lake Manasarovar, which are distributed on all sides of the lake. In summer and autumn, Buddhists bring their elders and children to make pilgrimages here. When I went there in August, I saw Tibetans circumambulating the lake in groups. I also saw Tibetans picking up garbage by the lake. The sun shines on Lake Manasarovar, which looks particularly charming.

Next to the Namuani Peak is one of the three sacred lakes in Tibet. The lake can be seen from a long distance, and the entire lake is nestled at the foot of the snow-capped mountains. I didn't buy a ticket to the scenic area. I drove into a small road and saw the whole lake and Namunani Peak on a small hill. I also had a picnic facing the holy lake.

After running for more than 300 kilometers, we finally arrived at the shore of Lake Manasarovar in the afternoon. What I saw and felt in my heart is beyond words. So, please forgive me for using the most vulgar language to describe it: there is grass by the lake, red grass, green grass, mixed together and looking golden from a distance; the meadow extends into the lake, and there are birds, big and small, flying or swimming, chirping non-stop; the lake is surrounded by mountains, each towering into the clouds, the mountains and clouds are connected, a white area is reflected in the lake, and is kneaded by the waves of the lake, like milk sprinkled on the lake, flowing everywhere; there are endless people walking around the lake, in groups of two or three, the sound comes from a distance but no one is seen, and when there is no sound, they suddenly appear and disappear in a flash... This is a lake with sound and color, but it is so quiet and pure, that's all.

It is said that it takes 5 days to circumambulate the lake.

Mapam Yumtso and Laang Co, which is located a short distance away, are both sheltered by the same sacred mountain, Namnanyi Peak. However, Mapam Yumtso, Namtso and Yanghu Lake are known as the three sacred lakes in Tibet, while Laang Co is known as the ghost lake! The beauty of Mapam Yumtso lies in its tranquility and purity! It is the freshwater lake with the highest water transparency in China. There are no waves on the lake, and the deep blue water is as pure as a mirror. The ticket to Mapam Yumtso is 150 yuan, and you can also watch it from a distance through the fence made of prayer flags on the road to Purang County, which is also a good choice! Mapam Yumtso is the residence of the Hindu Shiva, so you can often see Hindu pilgrims coming to the lake.

There is a fee to enter the scenic area. When the weather is good, the scenery by the lake is very beautiful.

You have to go to the observation deck near Laang Co to see the holy lake and feel its beauty up close.

It was cloudy when I went there, so the lake didn't seem as blue as what was posted online. I think it's only when the blue sky is reflected in the lake that it looks blue. From this angle, it's probably best to visit Tibet in the dry season to see the lake.



I didn't buy a ticket. I suggest you climb the small hill by the lake. There are wild flowers on the hill. The lake is more beautiful from a higher angle.
