Huoyan Mountain Scenic Area

It is well-known for the story of borrowing the palm-leaf fan three times in Journey to the West. It means "Red Mountain" in Uyghur. It was once called "Volcano" because of its heat.
The mountain range runs from east to west and is barren. In summer, the ground evaporates under the sun, looking like a flying dragon, which is very spectacular.
The scenic area is located in the most spectacular position of Huoyan Mountain. There are many statues of characters that appear in Journey to the West, as well as historical and cultural displays of Huoyan Mountain.

The ticket to the roadside Huoyan Mountain costs 40 yuan per person. There are only some man-made sculptures inside (huge thermometers, Bull Demon King, Princess Iron Fan, Monkey King and other mythological figures), and gliders for you to fly. It is recommended that you don’t buy a ticket to enter, just look at it on the roadside. It is also not the real filming location of the Huoyan Mountain in the 1986 version of "Journey to the West". If you want to see the real filming location of the 1986 version, please move to the Thousand Buddha Cave Scenic Area behind the mountain. There are also several geological viewing points on the way to the Thousand Buddha Cave Scenic Area. These geological viewing points can let you appreciate the shocking geological scenery, which is a bit like the scenery of the American West! It also looks a bit like the landforms of Mars. It is worth getting off the bus to see it. The key point is that these attractions are free...

I first learned about Huoyan Mountain when I was a kid watching a TV series. When Sun Wukong borrowed the banana fan for the third time, he was dared to tease it and poked a few beads. Hahahaha~ The Dinghaishenzhen in Huoyan Mountain. When we arrived at around 10 o'clock in the morning, the temperature was only 30 degrees Celsius. After we played for about an hour, at about 11 o'clock, the temperature had reached 57 degrees Celsius! This place is really hot. Mini excavator is our most expensive entertainment project in Xinjiang. We were curious (actually we were worried about being cheated, but in the end we were still curious), so we sat on it and fiddled with it casually, and then took a few photos. At first we didn't find any charging reminders. When we were about to leave, a staff member who didn't look like a staff member came over to collect fees from us, 10 yuan for a photo! Very old facilities, hidden charging warnings! I surrender! Stay away from excavators, the journey is more exciting! After being cheated, we continued to move forward and walked closer and closer to Huoyan Mountain. The orange-red rock and soil, under the blue sky and scorching sun, look like a blazing fire! Picking up the leather windbreaker, I originally wanted to pretend to be an Arab young girl, but I didn't expect the style to change suddenly, and I became an Egyptian mummy, hahahaha~ This is a very funny set of photos. Hahahaha~ On the Flame Mountain, I don't know who cheated on him, and he wore a green hat, but I didn't, it wasn't me, hahahaha~ Under the Flame Mountain, we are fighting, the contest between masters, every punch to the flesh, must be decided until the winner! Walking out of the gate of the Flame Mountain Scenic Area, Sun Wukong is waving goodbye to us~~~ If there is enough time, you can also play at the Flame Mountain Grand Canyon together! ~

Huoyan Mountain is located in Turpan, Xinjiang. It means "Red Mountain" in Uyghur. It was once called "Volcano" because of its heat. The mountain range runs from east to west and no grass grows. In summer, the highest temperature is as high as 47.8 degrees Celsius, and the highest surface temperature is as high as 89 degrees Celsius. The surface is steaming under the sun, like a flying fire dragon, which is very spectacular. Huoyan Mountain is well-known for the story of borrowing banana fans three times in "Journey to the West". Huoyan Mountain Scenic Area is only a small part of the Huoyan Mountain Range. In fact, it was the filming location of the TV series "Journey to the West".

By Ayu |

The Huoyan Mountain Scenic Area is mainly divided into two parts. One is the underground palace, and the other is the sculptures on the ground. The underground palace mainly has the topography sand table of the entire Huoyan Mountain, as well as the introduction of several foreign robber explorers who have been to Xinjiang. There is a giant golden hoop thermometer in the atrium of the underground palace, which is used to measure the surface temperature of Huoyan Mountain. The surface temperature was 37 degrees Celsius on the day we arrived. The sculptures on the ground are mainly characters from Journey to the West. The most special one is the sculpture of the shining chest of Princess Tieshan.

By y_AN_u |

It is said that the highest surface temperature of Huoyan Mountain in summer can reach over 70 degrees. In fact, the temperature of Huoyan Mountain in autumn is also quite high, 43 degrees. After standing here for a while, my hands and feet suddenly have a strong contrast effect.

The reason why the Huoyan Mountain has this name is not only because of the extremely high temperature, right?! It should also be because the entire mountain is a red Danxia landform~~ But listening to the driver's introduction, the color of the Huoyan Mountain began to gradually disappear and became more and more gray. I don’t know if this is a warning from God, letting everyone protect the environment well.

The scenic area is not very big, the most popular thing is the "golden hoop" thermometer... I have to record the "hot" here.

There are also various sculptures. Princess Iron Fan is of course the most popular one. After all, she is the protagonist of the story. Just look at the sculpture itself...

Then there are the four masters and apprentices, the Bull Demon King... They are all places where people compete to take photos!!~

[Flaming Mountain] is the most famous scenic spot in Turpan.

Located on the northern edge of the Turpan Basin, on the northern route of the ancient Silk Road.

Locals call it "Kiziltag", which means "Red Mountain".

The Tang people once named it "Volcano" because of its scorching heat. No grass grew there and all birds disappeared.

It was midsummer, the sun was high in the sky,

Under the scorching sun, the sandstone on the reddish-brown mountain gleams brightly.

The hot air rolled up.

In Turpan, the highest temperature in summer can reach over 40 degrees.

Therefore, you should prepare sufficient and effective sunscreen products.

At the same time, medicines or granules for clearing heat and preventing heatstroke should be prepared.

Such as Xiasangju Granules, Shidi Shui, etc.

It is said that the highest temperature in Huoyan Mountain in summer is as high as 47.8 degrees Celsius. On the day we arrived, the surface temperature of Huoyan Mountain was 72.5 degrees and the air temperature was 42 degrees. We had planned to experience this kind of scorching heat. But unexpectedly, when I arrived at Huoyan Mountain, I felt that it was not that hot except that it was very sunny. It felt much better than Guangdong.

I sincerely feel that the dry heat in the north is better than the humid heat in the south. With this kind of heat, as long as you stay in a cool place, you will feel much more comfortable.

The scenery on the back of Huoyan Mountain is said to be the filming location for the sandboarding scene in Where Are We Going, Dad? (it’s still very thrilling), but it is not open to the public now.

The most amazing thing is that in this place where "no birds fly in the mountains", there are actually many lush oases surrounding it, which form a sharp contrast with the barren mountains and hills. There are gurgling springs and shady trees at the bottom of the ditch, forming long and narrow oases. There is also only one farmer's family living here. It is really magical.

I bought an off-road vehicle and took a car to the top of the mountain where Journey to the West was filmed (there was a tree with a white dragon horse tied to it)

The off-road vehicle is 50 yuan per person. You can choose to hike or ride a camel. The main reason is that the weather is too sunny and I really don’t have the courage to hike or ride a camel. As a young person, I still think off-road vehicles are more fun.

The view from the top of the mountain is also a desolate scene.

Although the ride on the off-road vehicle is not long, maybe about 10 minutes per trip, it is relatively expensive, but it is still fun. It is quite exciting to drive on such a bumpy road (but it is quite dusty)

Passing by Huoyan Mountain, sitting in the car, with the air conditioner turned on, there was no coolness. Occasionally opening the car window, a scorching heat wave rushed in, as if you were in an oven, burning unbearably hot. Can you bake pancakes on stone slabs and boil eggs in sand pits? This is the passion of Xinjiang. The fiery red peaks, against the blue sky, with red light flashing and clouds and smoke lingering, are rare wonders and beautiful scenery in nature.

By Master Yipiao |

Huoyan Mountain is located at the northwest edge of Turpan Basin, 70 kilometers long and 10 kilometers wide. The lines on the Huoyan Mountain look like burning flames, so it is called Huoyan Mountain. There is no grass growing on Huoyan Mountain, but because Bogda Mountain to the north of Huoyan Mountain is over 4,000 meters above sea level, it breeds many rivers. The soil of Huoyan Mountain does not absorb water, and water rushes to low-lying areas, washing out many valleys on the Huoyan Mountain. Where there is water, there is life, which is why there are large oases around Huoyan Mountain.

By gimoon |

Some people say that Huoyan Mountain is a popular place on the Internet. Because of the heat, there are legends of Huoyan Mountain, Sun Wukong, Bull Demon King, and Princess Iron Fan. Regardless of these legends, the heat here is real. We arrived here at around 5 pm and saw that the temperature was still 57°. Well, this place has completely changed people's perception of heat. There are various images of Bull Demon King, Princess Iron Fan, and Sun Wukong here.

By Eighteen Children Tour |

The Huoyan Mountain Scenic Area in a narrow sense is not very large. Standing in the parking lot outside the scenic area, you can have a panoramic view of the entire scenic area. Under the scorching sun, the hot air currents of Huoyan Mountain roll up, and the ochre-red mountain looks like a raging fire. It feels like being in a furnace, and it is truly the "hottest place in China".

The Huoyan Mountain in a broad sense stretches 100 kilometers from east to west and more than ten kilometers from north to south. The mountain range faces west and east, connecting the two ancient cities of Turpan and Shanshan, like a giant red-scaled dragon lying on the east side of the Tianshan Mountains.

The Huoyan Mountain Scenic Area is right next to the national highway. On a cloudy day in this season, you can't feel the heat of Huoyan Mountain at all. But the wind here is stuffy, reminding me that I am in the special Turpan Basin. It only takes 20 minutes to walk around the entire scenic area. It is a place that is famous and everyone comes to check in.

Huoyan Mountain is the most famous scenic spot in Turpan. Everyone should recognize the gate of the scenic spot. There is a newly built Huoyan Mountain National Geopark next to it. Don't go wrong. The ticket price is 40 yuan for adults, half price for children, and 100 yuan for a family of three. The parking lot is very large and not close to the ticket office and the entrance. On both sides of the entrance passage are reliefs based on "Journey to the West". As soon as you leave the underground palace, you can see the continuous red mountains in the distance. Huoyan Mountain Scenic Area is a check-in attraction. It's a pity not to go in, and there's nothing to see if you go in. This is not the real shooting location of Huoyan Mountain in the 1986 version of "Journey to the West". The real location is behind the mountains seen in the scenic area.

By 59697 |

It takes courage to stand at the foot of Huoyan Mountain at noon in midsummer. Under the sun, the red rocks of the mountain seem to be burning. Huoyan Mountain is a place where you can leave after checking in. In addition to the giant golden hoop thermometer, the shop of baked eggs in Shawo is worth seeing. Under the rolling heat wave, people can't breathe and just want to get back to the air-conditioned car! We also invited a tour guide to explain the scenic area, but she not only couldn't speak Mandarin clearly, but also spoke too fast. Adults and children were confused. It was another pitfall!

By Scholar's spirit |

The Huoyan Mountain Scenic Area is located in the middle of the Turpan Basin. It is a scenic area dominated by fiery reddish brown sandstone landforms. Historically, it was the site of the ancient Gaochang Kingdom. It is also the site of the Huoyan Mountain where Tang Monk and his disciples borrowed a banana fan to put out the fire in the novel "Journey to the West". Therefore, it has become a must-see for many tourists visiting Turpan.

By see the way |

After passing Hami and approaching Turpan County, you will pass by the Huoyan Mountain Scenic Area, but it seems that there is nothing to visit. The sun is very hot, so you don’t go into the scenic area. You just take a photo at the entrance and leave.

I know this place is from Journey to the West, where Sun Wukong kicked down the alchemy furnace of Taishang Laojun, and then there was the scene of borrowing the banana fan three times. This is probably where the plane passed before landing. From a bird's eye view, the mountain peaks are really red, and the texture of the gullies is like flames. Huoyan Mountain is the most famous attraction in Turpan. It is located in the Turpan Basin. It is mainly composed of red sand, conglomerate and mudstone from the Jurassic, Cretaceous and Tertiary periods of the Mesozoic era. Locals call it "Kiziltag", which means Red Mountain.

The scene where Sun Wukong borrowed the palm-leaf fan in Journey to the West was filmed here. I went there for the first time 3 years ago with my teachers and classmates. It was the first time we met, and I was quite excited. The temperature was relatively high, and it had a lot of historical background and regional characteristics. It is worth a visit.

Entering the Huoyan Mountain Scenic Area, there is nothing to see. There is a large thermometer in the shape of Sun Wukong's golden hoop, 12 meters high, which is said to have been included in the Guinness World Records. A statue of Sun Wukong stands on the side, holding a Guinness World Record certificate. Many of our scenic spots have become pathological in their preference for Guinness records, and even Sun Wukong has been infected. In addition to being able to take pictures of the main body of Huoyan Mountain, the Huoyan Mountain Scenic Area also has a "zero-meter altitude" sign for the Turpan Basin. But this sign is in the ravine, and you need to walk 800 meters, and there is no time. In fact, the most important thing to come to this scenic spot is to take good pictures of Huoyan Mountain and capture the characteristics of Huoyan Mountain. Now is not the best time to take pictures of Huoyan Mountain. The best time should be in the evening of the hot summer season, when the clouds are steaming and the effect of blazing flames can be captured.

By Sweet noodle sauce |

Passing by the Flaming Mountain, imagining the scene of Sun Wukong holding a palm-leaf fan and leading his two masters and apprentices walking under the scorching sun, I couldn't help but sigh. The atmosphere of the Flaming Mountain story is everywhere in the scenic area. This is the famous Flaming Mountain. Does it feel bare? Because we came at the wrong season. In summer, the temperature here makes the air look like it is burning, and the whole mountain will appear red, hence the name "Flaming Mountain"!

Because of the extremely high surface temperature, no grass grows on Huoyan Mountain, and only scattered plants can be seen in the distance. The earth is exposed to us without any cover, and the color of the sky becomes even deeper. On that day, the outdoor temperature of Huoyan Mountain was 44 degrees Celsius, and the surface temperature was 68 degrees Celsius. As soon as we got off the car, the heat wave hit us, and it was really like an open-air sauna.

There are roasted eggs here, which are made by burying the eggs in the ground and roasting them naturally. In fact, the taste is not much different, but using the ground as a furnace is unprecedented.

It is recommended to go to Huoyan Mountain in the evening. First, the temperature is not so hot, and second, the lighting angle is more suitable for taking pictures. From a distance, the mountain is red, as if it is a burning furnace. If you just want to see the whole picture of Huoyan Mountain, you don’t have to go into the scenic area. Maybe it was because we had too high expectations, but when we actually arrived at Huoyan Mountain, we found that it was not what we imagined. The surface temperature of Huoyan Mountain, located in Huozhou in the legend of Journey to the West, is as high as 70 degrees. After walking for a while, I felt like I was being burned. Many attractions were too hot to complete, and the price was not cheap. It cost 20 yuan to take pictures next to the camels. I almost fainted from the sun after taking a few photos casually. Even though I was well prepared for sun protection, my friend still got heatstroke in the end. The camels and goats next to him were too lazy to get up.

Huoyan Mountain is located on the way from Turpan to Shanshan. Under the setting sun, the reddish-brown mountain looks majestic. The huge thermometer standing in the scenic area shows that the surface temperature is 42°C.

By JANE |

This is the most disappointing attraction on this trip to the northwest. The sky was foggy. There is nothing to see inside. As everyone said, it is just a barren mountain with a few sculptures built around it and charged a fee. I don't recommend going there.

By 248201519@一夫 |

I find the Flaming Mountain boring. It is far-fetched to say that the shape of the mountain is a bit like flame. As for the claim that Tang Monk passed by here when he went to seek Buddhist scriptures, who has verified this?

I have no interest in the sculptures in the scenic area. The thermometer in the shape of a golden hoop is worth a look because it has been certified by Guinness and once recorded the surface temperature of Turpan at 82 degrees. There is really no other reason to stop.

By Light and Shadow |

The scenic area is not big. It is just an area in front of the Flaming Mountain. There are several sculptures related to Journey to the West for people to take photos, and there is also a huge thermometer.

In early autumn, although there are no extreme heat waves, the ultraviolet rays are very strong.

By Take your wife on a trip |

Huoyan Mountain is a must-visit place. (If you don't want to enter the scenic area, you can go to the Huoyan Mountain Grand Canyon, or look at Huoyan Mountain from afar at the entrance) In addition to the sculptures of the four people, the golden hoop, the banana fan, the Bull Demon King, and his disciples, it is another experience to approach Huoyan Mountain in the face of the unexpected heat wave. Huoyan Mountain is still a Danxia landform, with no grass growing all year round, tall and magnificent, with special textures and reddish colors. The surface temperature in summer can reach 70 degrees.

By Nanaguo |

The Journey to the West theme sculptures in the underground seemed a bit perfunctory, and the eggs in the sand pit were empty, leaving only a palm leaf fan to tell us that the surface was still 65 degrees. But the Uyghur tour guide was very thin and beautiful, and took us to the sacred spring, which was different from the Huoyan Mountain Scenic Area. As the sun set and the scenic area was about to close, no one was interested in rushing to the foot of the mountain to feel the temperature of the "flame". They only took a peek at the plank road and left. As for what the Huoyan Mountain Scenic Area was like, there was no chance to explore it on this trip.

Passing by Huoyan Mountain, I went in for a walk! I took a donkey cart to the foot of Huoyan Mountain and took a selfie at the zero altitude line! The Turpan Basin is below the altitude line. I just kissed the nose of the bull at Huoyan Mountain, but in the afternoon the tour guide took me to the green Grape Valley to visit a Uyghur family.

To be honest, after traveling around the country, I have a good appreciation for tea tasting, home visits, workshops, blessing, fortune telling, and experience. I have to say that this Uyghur home visit is the most impressive one for me. Not to mention that the host Adili is very friendly, just like Zhang Guoli with a mustache, his beautiful sister danced for us, his cute children played around us, his diligent wife served us fruits, and he spoke fluent Mandarin from appreciating raisins to the relationship between Uyghurs and Han. What impressed me most was that no matter how tricky the tourists were, no matter whether you bought or not, he always had a calm look on his face, which completely subverted my impression of Uyghur brothers.

When we left, each of us was contentedly carrying large and small bags of raisins. We ate the grapes without spitting out the skins, and if we didn't eat the grapes, we would look at our Uyghur brothers.

We came to the place where the Monkey King got angry. I thought the temperature was just right in Turpan, but it was so hot when I arrived at Huoyan Mountain. I checked the temperature on my phone and it was about 32 degrees. The thermometer on the ground had exceeded 43 degrees. The tour guide said this is still a relatively cool season.

This is the world's largest thermometer. Monkey's stick showed that the surface temperature was 43 degrees at that time. . . .

It was really hot, and it felt even hotter when I looked at the Red Mountain in front of me. It was really the Flaming Mountain.

If the whole basin is compared to a big bowl, Turpan is the hottest place at the bottom of the bowl, so my friends all wore short sleeves, and got a few shades tanned.

This is a place that Sun Wukong was worried about. He said that he had to borrow a palm leaf fan from Princess Iron Fan when he came to Huoyan Mountain because it was too hot. But we didn't need the palm leaf fan. The heavy rain in Urumqi before made the cold air blow to Turpan. We actually felt a little cool in Huoyan Mountain. Another magical thing is that there are water in the thirteen valleys of Huoyan Mountain, and there are a lot of them. This also overturned my original impression that Huoyan Mountain is barren. Avoiding the big thermometer location where tour groups gather, we went deep into the hinterland of Huoyan Mountain, where you can climb mountains, go off-road sand rushing, and ride camels. The key is that there are not many people, but the wind and sand in the canyon are relatively strong, and I feel covered in sand.

One: It's hot, two: The price/performance ratio is low. No wonder my friend didn't go in twice. It turned out to be right.

Speaking of Huoyan Mountain, if you buy an e-ticket, you must pay attention. Huoyan Mountain and Huoyan Mountain National Geopark are not the same place. Don't ask me how I know.

My suggestion is not to buy tickets. The temperature is too high. You will be burned out when you get off the bus and you will not have the courage to play. And the inside of the scenic spot is similar to what you see outside. You can just visit the entrance. But there are helicopters inside. If you want to have fun, it is still good to go in and fly.

Maybe we came too early, the temperature was not very high. The scenic area is not large, there is nothing worth seeing inside, it is a bit of a pit... It feels like the level of an ordinary park 20 years ago, there are a few camels, a few sculptures of Journey to the West characters, and even an excavator for children to play with, used to dig sand... It's too good. The only thing worth seeing in the scenic area is a giant thermometer. It is said that the highest temperature measured this year reached 70 degrees. Maybe we came too early, plus it was windy and cold, the temperature we took was 25℃.

Don't go to the Huoyan Mountain Front Mountain Scenic Area. There is nothing to see in the scenic area. There are a few thermometers and sculptures that are charged. It is recommended to go to the Huoyan Mountain Grand Canyon, which is also suitable for aerial photography. You can also climb Huoyan Mountain to experience the Danxia landform of Huoyan Mountain up close.

Fortunately, the temperature at Huoyan Mountain was not very high that day. This scenic spot is not big, so you can just walk around and take some photos. This is a scenic spot that is more famous than it is real.

We took a desert car to climb up the Huoyan Mountain and felt the ground steaming under the sun. The tour guide said that you don't sweat much here because the sweat evaporates as soon as you sweat. The scenic spot itself is quite ordinary. The moment of rushing down the slope is a bit exciting, which is worth the 50 yuan ticket...

Go to Huoyan Mountain🔥… Many people probably go to the check-in location~ which is the place with the Monkey King statue in my last photo. In fact, to see the beauty of Huoyan Mountain, you have to go to the Huoyan Mountain where Tang Monk and his disciples walked in the ending song of "Journey to the West"🔥… That is where you can feel the real beauty of Huoyan Mountain🔥. It is more than ten minutes away from the check-in location. Only here can you feel the hardship of climbing the mountain in Journey to the West, and the magnificent beauty of Huoyan Mountain when standing on the mountainside…
