Kashgar Old Town

The residential complex in the core area of the old city is one of the largest earthen buildings in the world. The earthen buildings themselves are of great historical significance and value, integrating the legacy of the Han and Tang Dynasties, ancient Rome and the characteristics of modern life of the Uyghur people. The streets and alleys in the old city of Kashgar are crisscrossed, with flexible and changeable layouts and winding paths. Most of the residential buildings are earthen and brick-wood structures. Many traditional residential buildings have a history of hundreds of years. It is the only maze-like urban block in China that features Islamic culture.
Today, residents of the old town still adhere to the mud houses and traditional customs that have been inhabited for generations. However, the local government is currently carrying out a renovation project for the old town, and many ancient houses have been demolished. Some scenes of the famous movie "The Kite Runner" were shot here.

It has a very strong Uyghur style and a wide variety of ethnic goods. I only visited the eastern part of the old city, and there is basically a new scene at every step in the central area.

There were all kinds of rumors before I came, but after I came, a friendly smile from a child or an old man instantly shattered my inner grudges.

Apart from the beauty and culture of the old city, the biggest feeling is that you and I should treat each other gently!

I particularly like the old city of Kashgar, which has a strong Uyghur style. There are surprises everywhere when walking on the streets and alleys. The locals are very friendly. They will try to actively communicate and say hello to tourists. I stayed in the old city for three days and still couldn't get enough of it. Although there are many souvenirs for sale, it still retains the atmosphere of local residents' life. Some ancient towns and old streets in the mainland can't compare. If I have the opportunity to go to Xinjiang again, I will go to Kashgar and stay in the old city of Kashgar.

We entered the city from the side door. Soon after we walked in, we found that there were many different details of the buildings here. Children played and frolicked in the alleys from time to time. We met two cute little girls and liked their smiles. The children here were very enthusiastic and liked to take photos with tourists. Maybe it was because they could eat candy. Passing by a small square, there were more children here. They were obviously more experienced in taking photos. They were so cute in various poses. There were so many cute children. Auntie liked them very much. Uncle, I really want to get married and have children. Hahaha, at this moment, I was still very happy. When we took pictures in front of the door and were about to turn around and leave, we suddenly found that there was an attic from this door. With curiosity, we walked up to the small courtyard with obvious style, which was newly decorated by young people who love literature and art. We sat down and ordered a pot of hot tea, chatted and took pictures. Obviously, the owner loves Xinjiang and Kashgar very much. There are photos on one wall, which are landscape exhibitions of southern and northern Xinjiang, and there are magazines and picture albums that can be read and appreciated at will. This place is like a small museum introducing Xinjiang. The sunshine, buildings and children's smiles in the ancient city are healing our fatigue from the journey. After letting go of ourselves, we empty ourselves here. Life here is peaceful and beautiful. The most representative drinks in Xinjiang are kvass, Dawusu, and then this pomegranate juice. The people in Central Asia seem to like pomegranate juice very much. I didn't taste it in the Grand Bazaar in Urumqi, but I ordered a cup at the roadside stall in the ancient city. It tastes sweet and a little astringent. Cheers, Kashgar. At mealtime, we are ready to taste the jar mutton soup. Yellow radish is a rare food in our mainland. This soup is fragrant and pure. After dinner, we walked towards the gate of the ancient city. I took a standard tourist photo of Hongjie's family.

This was originally an ordinary residential area. After renovation in 2015, it became a 5A ancient city tourist area. Most of the houses in the entire scenic area are made of earth and wood, brick and wood, with two main colors of magenta and gold, full of rich Western style! Most of the scenes in the movie "The Kite Runner" were taken from here.

We went to visit the old city of Kashgar. The soul of Kashgar is in the old city of Kashgar. As soon as you enter the old city, you will be surrounded by the rich Uyghur ethnic customs, which even has a little Persian flavor. Most of the narrow old streets and alleys still retain the appearance of hundreds of years ago, with two- and three-story old houses on both sides. The earthy yellow carved walls have exquisite patterns and bright colors. My wife likes it so much that she can't help but touch it. If you don't go to Kashgar, you haven't been to Xinjiang. Then, if you don't go to the old city, you can't understand the real Kashgar, because the old streets and alleys are the places with the most Uyghur life in Kashgar. It preserves the historical imprint of a nation and passes it on to its descendants. What touched me most were the children in the old city. They are so innocent, so warm and polite. Almost all children will take the initiative to greet you when they see guests: Hello! It makes people feel warm. Their childlike faces are so lively and cute. If you want to take pictures of them, they will immediately pose for cooperation, and then run over to look at the photos in the camera with you. With them, we become children too.

The most interesting thing is the brick-paved ground in the ancient alley. If you look closely, you will find that these bricks are actually different. One is diamond-shaped, and the other is strip-shaped. The road paved with diamonds means that this road can lead to the main road, while the road paved with strips means that this road has reached the end, and there are houses or dead ends ahead. It turns out that in this maze-like ancient alley, if you want to avoid getting lost, just look at the bricks under your feet. This design idea of the Uyghur ancestors makes people see the light of wisdom.

We found that the Uyghur people love beauty very much. The streets are cleaned very neatly and flowers are planted in front of every house, which is very beautiful.

I originally thought that the old town should be a commercial street, and it really is. It's just not as many as the hotels in Lijiang. It feels like the locals still maintain their original daily lives and are not disturbed by tourists. Children are playing, the elderly are leisurely, craftsmen are working, and vendors are selling. They are carefree and live and work in peace.

Everyone wandered around the old town, took photos, ate fresh fruits, and drank beverages. We recommend freshly squeezed pomegranate juice, 5 yuan for a small cup, and 20 yuan for a bottle of mineral water.

The old city of Kashgar is suitable for taking portraits. The local elderly, children, and beauties all have natural expressions. The telephoto lens can focus on the craftsmen working on iron and clay, as well as the chefs grilling meat and making naan bread. They are all life scenes, and they are played by themselves.

By Quitting Coke lives |

Entering the alleys of the ancient city, in addition to the houses of ordinary people, there are shops along the street selling dried goods and spices, antiques, handmade ironware, snacks, etc. The area near the mosque is relatively commercial, so it is not recommended to choose goods there. If you want to buy something cheaper, it is best to go deeper and do your shopping!

Such dentist shops can be seen everywhere in the ancient city of Kashgar. I wonder why the locals like to protect their teeth so much.

The old man in the white hat in the oil painting gallery is probably the artist, looking at the visitors with a little pride. I don't know much about oil painting, but I think it is a good humanistic work to appreciate it from a photographic perspective. A painting of flowers is also very expensive, basically costing several thousand yuan.

In the evening, the children were chasing and playing in the alleys after dinner. When they saw us coming, they would say hello, but it was just these two words. If you continued chatting with them, they would have nothing to say.

Looking at these quiet and secluded alleys covered with vines, I was reminded of the time when I wandered around the Beijing hutongs with a camera. The only thing that’s different is the appearance, but the atmosphere of life, including food, oil, salt, sauce, vinegar and tea, is the same no matter where you go.

Walking into the old city of Kashgar, there is no feeling of a scenic spot at all. It is an old city full of life. It is really comfortable to walk in the sunset. I spent most of the day today and planned to visit the old city of Kashgar. As shown on the map, the old city is divided into two parts. The part with the mosque is more commercial. The other side is completely the living area of the locals, but both sides of the old city are Uyghur people living in Kashgar. Walking in the old city, there is a breath of life. We walk in the lives of others and experience it quietly.

Although maps of the old city can be seen everywhere, it still didn't stop us from getting lost several times in the old city.

In Kashgar, time seems to be particularly long. There are no people rushing on the road. More people are leisurely basking in the sun and doing their own things. In the ten-day trip, two full days were wasted in the old city of Kashgar. Don't be afraid of getting lost in the intricate alleys. Turn around and you will see beautiful scenery. The people here are very enthusiastic. When they meet you, they will greet you with a smile and say "hello" and "goodbye" in broken Chinese. Smaller children will rush straight into your camera and pose for you to take pictures. There are beautiful plants in front of every household in the old city. Maybe they are full of love for life and are willing to spend time picking flowers and grass. Under the clear sky, the quiet streets of the old city, with flowers blooming on both sides, I really want time to go slowly so that I can stay here for a while. There are two night markets in the old city of Kashgar, one opposite the east gate entrance of the ancient city scenic area, and the other at the entrance of the old city opposite the Id Kah Mosque.

We didn't go to any scenic spots in Kashgar, but spent our time in the old city, listening to the moving melodies played by the grandfather, sharing sweet fruits with the children, and feeling the charming charm of the old city. Even though we couldn't speak the same language, it didn't affect each other's enthusiasm at all. I think such a simple and beautiful place should be felt by yourself, rather than through imagination and speculation from other people's mouths. Only when you come to this place can you really feel its charm.

First, we went to the Id Kah Mosque. We only took a look at it from the outside. We went through an underground passage next to the mosque and arrived at the central scenic area of the ancient city. The first place we went to was the hat bazaar. Then the wooden bazaar. We started walking along the main street. We didn't go into the alleys and high places. I always felt that it lacked the atmosphere of the movie "The Kite Runner". Later, two old men sitting on the roadside chatting pointed to the steps next to us and motioned us to go up. When we walked up, we realized that the houses were above, and we felt like we had discovered a treasure. Walking down from the other side, we arrived at the east gate of the ancient city. Passing the city gate and walking forward, we will reach the flower pot bazaar. There is also the Internet celebrity horseshoe blacksmith shop. Step into the residential houses again. Looking at the children who were playing freely without their mobile phones, I remembered my childhood. The light gradually dimmed, and suddenly the lights came on. The ancient city under the warm lights was even warmer.

Kashgar Ancient City, a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction, covers an area of 20 square kilometers. The capital of Shule State was renamed "Panluo City", and its predecessor was Shule City in the Western Han Dynasty. This is what Baidu Encyclopedia tells you, and there are things he doesn't know. Only by being in it can you experience the more than 2,000 years of historical precipitation. It is the busiest international city on the ancient Silk Road, a distribution center for business and travel between the east and the west, and a great fusion of Chinese and Western cultures. The thousand-year-old ancient city, opening the city gate allows you to walk into history and understand history, and also represents a unique historical and cultural heritage, and feel the warmth and friendliness of the people in the ancient city. Don't be in a hurry, you can walk into the ancient alleys at will. Criss-crossing, coming and going from the south and the north, every corner has a different scenery.

After thousands of years of development, the scenery here is the most natural. At 10:30 in the old city, there is a ceremony to open the city gate, which lasts for ten minutes. The Uyghur people welcome guests and tourists from all directions in the most enthusiastic way, singing and dancing.

Every street has a warm name, every building has its own significance and can stand for thousands of years, and history can be seen in every window. The sound of wind whirring outside the window seems to be telling the former splendor of the small country in the Western Regions and the care and protection of this place by the Han Empire.

It is said that if you haven’t been to southern Xinjiang, you haven’t been to Xinjiang, and if you haven’t been to Kashgar, you haven’t been to southern Xinjiang. In fact, if you haven’t been to the ancient city of Kashgar, you haven’t been to Xinjiang. The ancient city epitomizes the historical changes of Xinjiang, a land that accounts for one-sixth of China’s land area, over thousands of years. It witnesses the enthusiasm of the people who have worked hard to guard the western gate of the motherland for thousands of years, and it also calls for the coexistence and prosperity of Chinese and Western cultures and the great unity of all ethnic groups.

Every morning at 10:30, the ancient city of Kashgar holds an opening ceremony to welcome guests from all over the world. Facing the rising sun, the opening ceremony begins in a lively manner, accompanied by music with ethnic characteristics, heroic ancient city guards, old men with superb dancing skills, graceful dancers, Ferghana horses that can travel a thousand miles a day, Ban Chao of the Han Dynasty, and Xiang Fei of the Qing Dynasty... Various characters come one after another, making people feel as if they have traveled through time and space and returned to the mysterious and legendary Western Desert... With the sound of the gong by the master of ceremonies, the happy day of the people of all ethnic groups in the ancient city of Kashgar begins in peace.

Walking in the streets and alleys of the ancient city, you will be overwhelmed by all kinds of exotic customs, unique architectural styles, exquisite doors and windows, crisscrossing streets and alleys, and flexible and changeable layouts. If you are not careful, you will fall into the maze of the ancient city and lose your way. The shops on both sides of the street are full of handicrafts, small flower hats, gourds, earthenware vessels... It is dazzling; there are too many national musical instruments to be seen, hand drums, satar, rebab... There are also various exquisite instruments that cannot be named, which are enough to mobilize every musical cell in your body; there is also a gathering of delicious food, baked naan, baked buns, Hami melon, pomegranate juice... There is everything you can think of, all of which are mouth-watering. Foodies, don't miss it!

Another great charm of Kashgar Old Town is that you can see old people basking in the sun peacefully, children chasing and playing carefree, and Uyghur women welcoming you into their houses. Although it is difficult to communicate with them smoothly, a smile and a greeting are enough to break all the strange barriers. I think I will never forget the warm smiles of the people in Kashgar Old Town!

By Quiet |

The building may be the most eye-catching part here~~

Walking in the alley is very comfortable~~ Although it is very hot, as long as you walk into the shade, you will feel cool instantly~~

The sisters here like to wear very bright colors~~ Those bright red, bright green, bright blue and bright pink that we usually don’t dare to wear can be seen everywhere~~

Although I am not very good at taking street scenes and portraits, their bright colors and exotic scenery are still memorable~~

Although the old city of Kashgar is also newly built, it is still interesting enough for people who have never been here~~

The young people here are still closer to Western culture~~

In 1996, the streets of Kashgar were full of locals wearing Yingjisha knives. There were few people who could speak Chinese. There were many more foreign tourists than inland tourists. The area of the old town with earthen houses was still very large, and you could wander around for a long time. When I came in 2006, the old town had been demolished and less than half of its area was left. Now, the old city of Kashgar has been transformed into a 5A-level tourist attraction. The few remaining old high-rise houses have been emptied of residents and are ready for further transformation (it is estimated that they will be demolished and rebuilt into antique buildings). This time I came at the right time. If I came later, the Kashgar in my memory would have completely disappeared. Because of the upgrade and transformation, it has been emptied and visitors are not allowed to enter. I can no longer feel the alleys that are connected in all directions and crisscrossed. Finally, let's reminisce. But the baked buns now are much better than those in the past, and the pomegranate juice is also delicious, sweet and refreshing.

By Let it be |

The old city of Kashgar is not like the huge investment in the mainland tourist attractions, nor is it like the lifeless "old city". It is the home of the Uyghur people who have lived for generations. The streets are winding and deep, extending in all directions, like a maze. We try our best to distinguish the east, west, south and north, but often go back and forth, lose and find. There are all kinds of small handicraft workshops in the old district, which can be roughly divided into wooden bazaars, iron bazaars, fur bazaars, flower pot bazaars, etc. Nang shops and barbecue shops can be seen everywhere. The guys in the naan shops are all sitting cross-legged by the naan pit to operate. There are both traditional slices of naan and nests of naan, as well as new naan with milk and eggs added to taste like bread, all sold for 2 yuan each. Barbecue shops are equipped with tables, chairs and tea sets. If you are tired, you can order a few skewers of barbecue for 2.5 yuan a skewer, and rest comfortably for a long time with a pot of hot tea. Another drink that left a deep impression on me was called Sanglangduo, which was made by an old Uyghur grandfather by mixing shaved ice with water, yogurt and honey. It was very sour and refreshing to drink under the scorching sun.

A place with a thousand-year history, where countless generations have lived and multiplied on this land. Although it is now designated as a 5A scenic spot, there are still many people living there, and there is a strong atmosphere of life everywhere. It is rare to live in a place designated as a scenic spot with peace of mind.

Red floor tiles and red walls are the western style, the only color that is not drowned by the yellow sand next door. The walls of earth and stone bricks are warm in winter and cool in summer, and there is no trace of reinforced concrete. Because some streets have buildings as high as three floors, there is no sunlight in some places. I think I can roughly judge the time by looking at the position of the sunlight on the wall.

There are many tourists on the main streets, but the small alleys are much quieter, and you can occasionally see children on their way home from school, playing on the road. The old city has many unique decorations. It would be great if the mainland could be so "literary". A street with unified doorheads, unified colors, and all kinds of creativity is unified, which is really boring.

It’s a wonderful feeling to walk through the alleys. You don’t know what you’ll encounter around the next corner. Maybe it’ll be a surprise? How can you know if you don’t walk around?

Wandering around the night market in the ancient city at night, you can basically eat meat for every meal, including horse meat, beef head meat, mutton, etc.

If you like to eat meat, then it is a good idea to come to Kashgar. By the way, there is very little pork here, and it is mainly halal.

By I don't believe there is any sorrow in the world |

Walking into the ancient streets, you may get lost in the winding paths, because this is the only maze-like urban block in China built with Islamic cultural characteristics.

Kashgar is a place where ethnic customs are extremely prominent.

Diverse cultures, mixed nationalities, complicated history, and houses of various colors

The basic elements that make up this city

Kashgar has its own appearance, with earthen walls and houses, and is still known as the largest earthen building complex in use in the world.

Kashgar ~ has its own character, neither fast nor slow, time is so dense that it can hardly flow.

Those spider-web-like alleys entangle all the dreams of those who were born and raised here...

Children were running and playing in the streets and alleys of the old city.

They run in the sunshine, walking through the colorful mottled light and shadow. Seeing their active figures, you have the illusion of returning to that real and illusory afternoon when you were five or six years old.

They greeted us and took photos with us very enthusiastically, and wherever we went, their enthusiastic eyes followed us.

Although there is a language barrier, it is very easy to communicate with children. They just want to see themselves in the camera but don’t care whether they can actually own the photo.

I think they are the ones who understand best the meaning of experiencing happiness from the process.

Only when you come here can you truly experience the humanistic customs of the Xinjiang Uyghur people. Once you enter the gate of the old city, the bustling streets are full of vendors. My friend and I tasted freshly baked buns here. Some children were running and playing in the streets of the old city. Seeing me holding a camera, they happily posed beautifully, and then said goodbye to me politely in Chinese. Some old people were leisurely drinking tea and chatting, occasionally smiling and saying hello to passers-by. The owner of the shop was sitting at the door and taking a nap, and the old uncle was playing the piano in his yard. The ancient city was filled with a leisurely atmosphere. Walking along the intricate alleys to the less crowded place, the brown-yellow earth walls were covered with creepers, and various green plants were planted in the porcelain pots stacked outside the intricately carved wooden doors. Here I felt like I had returned to the simple and innocent era of my childhood, and felt the rare tranquility and warmth.

Photographers all know that the old city of Kashgar is a holy place for portraits. No matter whether you are photographing the elf-like children in the old city or taking pictures of smug girls, it is a place where you can take the kind of soapy photos that the teachers say can penetrate the soul.

Because this is a city full of sunshine and happiness. People living here will smile brightly to strangers, which is kindness from the bottom of their hearts. Children also say "hello" and "hello" in Mandarin with Uyghur accents. Their smiles are beautiful when photographed, their purity is real when photographed, and their enthusiasm is irresistible.

Here, you will breathe freely in the sunshine, the corners of your mouth will rise involuntarily, and your impetuous mind will slowly become quiet...

I have been here for a week, but it feels like I have been here for a month. However, I would be willing to stay in the old city of Kashgar even if I were asked to stay there for a month. The warm sunshine, the enthusiastic and dancing Uighurs, the cute kids running around the streets, and the old man Kurban with a face full of stories, everyone lives so happily, and their lives are full of music and happiness. I really envy them.

Kashgar, maybe I won't come again, but I will remember this city full of hope for life✈️

Slowly experience the real cultural landscape of Xinjiang. After all, Kashgar is known as a humanistic paradise. Shuttle through the criss-crossing streets and alleys, looking for something deeper. Every person and every thing is a picture of foreign customs. People are in an unfamiliar environment, but they feel that the atmosphere is very friendly and everything is fresh. Children are playing on the streets. When they see you, they will actively say hello to you: Hello! Before you raise your camera, he will pose with a weird expression and wait for you to take a picture. After taking the picture, he will come over to see the effect. If he thinks it is not good, he will ask you to take it again. He is a natural model. The old people are leisurely basking in the sun, breaking the naan in their hands, and eating melon seeds. It seems that nothing around can affect their tranquility at this time. Everything is so natural and comfortable in their eyes. Speaking of the architecture of the old city of Kashgar, although it is built one by one, it is different from the ancient high-rise houses. It is messy but tidy. The orientation of the house is like a tree-shaped node, forming a separate household. The various doors with ethnic characteristics outline the delicacy of this nation, and the various green plants in front of the door show the mood and romance of life. Every family has a balcony, which reminds people of the scene of children flying kites on the balcony in "The Kite Runner". The food and night market food in the old city of Kashgar do not need to be described with gorgeous words. Only by eating with an open heart can you experience the heroism. Eat meat and drink wine with big mouthfuls, hold Wusu in your hand, and walk forward heroically.

Although we went to the Pamir Plateau on the way, it is still worth spending a day walking slowly in the old city of Kashgar. Whether it is the crisscrossing streets or the quiet paths, there will always be a place you like, maybe it is the bustle, maybe it is the tranquility, or maybe it is the true nature of life.

There are several gates in the old city. We entered from the east gate. At first, we saw the ticket office and thought we had to show our tickets to enter... But for some reason, the ticket office seemed to be closed... (In fact, these days, many attractions have posted discounts during the National Day, and the tickets are basically cheaper than usual. I don’t know if this is the reason why the old city does not charge admission!!)

You may meet like-minded tourists here, or meet old friends in a foreign land, and you will be happy to hear the familiar dialect. Everything will be a wonderful experience... There are infinite possibilities and unexpected gains.

In the early period, it was a very ordinary residential area in the local area. After renovation in 2015, it became a 5A ancient city tourist area. Most of the houses in the entire scenic area are civil and brick-wood structures, showing two main colors of magenta and gold. The most rare thing is the seamless combination of the ancient city scenic area and the humanities of local residents. After the listing of the scenic area, the old city does not seem to be affected by the title. People live in every corner as usual. While preserving the architectural art of local ethnic minorities, they can also show tourists the folk culture of the Uyghur people. The scenic area of the old city is very large. It feels that even if you spend a whole day, you can't walk through the streets and alleys inside. The streets and alleys of the ancient city are crisscrossed. There are two main roads. One side leads to the East Bazar and Gaotai residential houses; the other side leads to the Id Kah Mosque, and both sides of the street are shops for business. In addition, there are many alleys on both sides of the street, and many local people live in the alleys. However, the alleys in the ancient city are numerous and deep, and the terrain is relatively complex. It is often easy to get lost while walking. The shapes of the road bricks in the ancient city of Kashgar are regular. You can pay attention to the stone road under your feet when walking. The residents in the alleys live as usual, and seem to be unaffected by the tourism industry. Every household hangs the five-star national flag. You can always see groups of three or five sitting on the stone benches everywhere, basking in the afternoon sun and chatting. Even if you don’t understand their dialect, you can still feel the leisurely daily atmosphere. When I pass by them, the enthusiastic Uyghur residents will say "Yaheximo" to me, and the innocent children will look at me and smile. In autumn, Kashgar begins to fall at about 8 o'clock in the evening. Whenever the sun sets, the buildings in the ancient city reflect thousands of lights, and the whole city of Kashgar presents a quiet and warm tone. The paintings on the walls look mysterious and extraordinary under a few soft and bright lights, and there is always an illusion of Middle Eastern colors. The old city of Kashgar gave me a new understanding. When walking in these streets and alleys, you can vaguely feel that the commercial atmosphere of this ancient city is lighter, but the atmosphere of life is stronger. At night, unlike the noisy night markets in many ancient cities, the streets of Kashgar Old City are particularly quiet, so quiet that you can even hear the echo, which really echoes the words in the book - work at sunrise and rest at sunset.

The "old city" of Kashgar has a history and stories. The local government has now relocated all residents of the old city and is reinforcing the old city. In order to ensure the orderly transformation of the old city, anti-explosion team members are guarding everywhere, and all irrelevant personnel are prohibited from entering or leaving. Tourists and photography enthusiasts with long guns and short guns can only look at it from afar.

The streets in the city are crisscrossed and have a unified style, which is very suitable for taking pictures. Walking in this deep, heavy but colorful city, it seems like entering the exotic world of Central Asia, everything is so novel. This is the filming location of the movie "The Kite Runner". The ancient city is divided into two parts, east and west, by the main road of the city, facing the street. Dongcheng District has a strong commercial atmosphere, while Xicheng District retains a relatively primitive state. In the ancient city, people who are walking towards you are a group of people with different faces, clothes, and languages from you. There is an inexplicable sense of time travel, which is really dazzling. The buildings in the ancient city are very distinctive, especially the doors. The doors of each household are different and have their own characteristics. I am obsessed with taking pictures of various doors, and my friends tease me whether I am going to sell doors. The buildings in the city are basically wood carvings. It can be seen that the people here admire carvings very much. In the ancient city, only one door is opened, which means that only the hostess is at home and it is not convenient to receive guests; if the door is opened, but there is a door curtain hanging, it means do not disturb; the door is wide open, which means welcome to visit the house. Tourists from all over the world will also participate in the ancient welcoming ceremony at the east gate of Kashgar Ancient City, which is very lively. At 10:30, the simple and lively entry ceremony began on time, and tourists stopped to watch. The host first introduced the history of Kashgar Ancient City, and the opening officer guided the musicians to blow the horn. Then important figures who reflected the humanities and history of Kashgar appeared, including the historical Xiang Fei, Zhang Qian who was sent to the Western Regions, and so on. Finally, tourists followed the historical figures into the ancient city, opening a happy day in the ancient city. Although the opening ceremony was brief, it also reflected the history and humanity of Kashgar to some extent.

It was my first time to Kashgar. I really liked this city, especially the old town. The residents there are very friendly and will say hello to you. We also met a family of three children, two brothers and a sister. They were all very talented and could dance various Uyghur dances. They were also very interested in astronomy and geography. One of them was a primary school bully. I had a lot of fun playing with them. I also tasted the jar meat in the old street. It was authentic and I thought it was quite delicious.

The old city of Kashgar is divided into the East District and the West District. The gate of the old city is in the East District, so we started from the East District. The locals told us that if we want to visit the old city properly, it may take two days. However, we only have less than one day, so we just have a quick look and a rough understanding of the style of the old city. There are many small shops selling various Xinjiang handicrafts along the street. The streetscape of the old city is full of ethnic characteristics. Many young ladies choose to wear ethnic minority costumes to take street photos here. There are good shooting spots every few steps.

The old city of Kashgar is quaint and small in size. You can visit any place in the old city if you stay there for two or three days. It is full of exotic customs. It is suitable for leisure travel without rushing or extravagance. Late August is a good time to travel in Kashgar. The passenger flow during the peak season of summer vacation has decreased, and the prices of air tickets, hotels and homestays have been reduced. No matter how good the scenic spots are, the experience will be greatly reduced if there are too many people. There are locals selling freshly cooked mutton on the streets of the old city. It is a little fat but not fishy or greasy. Some Internet celebrity foods are different for different people. Kashgar is worth it!

Kashgar Old Town, an ancient city with profound historical and cultural heritage, is located in Kashgar, Xinjiang, and is an important historical city in western China. The streets and alleys in the ancient city are crisscrossed, the traditional houses are scattered, and the traditional handicrafts such as earthenware, bronzes, textiles, etc. are dazzling, showing the rich Uyghur customs. This is not only an important node of the ancient Silk Road, but also a witness to the integration of multiple cultures. Walking in the ancient city, it seems to travel through time and space, feeling the weight of history and the charm of culture. Kashgar Old Town attracts countless tourists to visit with its unique architectural style, rich cultural connotations and strong local characteristics, and has become a bright business card for Xinjiang tourism.

By Can't stay |

The old city of Kashgar is divided into the East District and the West District, and the attractions in the West District are more concentrated. There are many popular attractions in the old city that are worth checking in and taking photos, such as Rainbow Alley, Budai Alley, Grandpa's Grandpa's Father's Nang, Sky Garden, Kashgar TV Tower, Genggong Temple, etc. Some alleys are obviously specially packaged, with bright colors and full of exotic style, and they look good no matter how you take pictures. Sometimes when you turn a corner in the alleys of the old city, you will see a surprise in front of you. In the afternoon, you can go to the century-old teahouse to drink tea and experience the unique customs of the Uyghur people. There will be folk performances next to it at designated times.

When you come to the ancient city of Kashgar, how can you miss the opening ceremony at 10:15 every morning? The ancient city of Kashgar is divided into Dongcheng District and Xicheng District. The place to watch the opening ceremony is in Dongcheng District. After breakfast, we called a taxi to take us to the east gate of the ancient city. Before ten o'clock, the three floors inside and outside were full of tourists watching the performance. Dongcheng District has a variety of small commodities and delicacies. Since it was still early after watching the opening ceremony, many shops have just opened. Dongcheng District has a strong commercial atmosphere. Travel photography shops can be seen everywhere. Guli's home, the sky garden, Bayi's home and other check-in points are all in Dongcheng District. You can also see many locals coming here to visit, and many residents also live in the ancient city, which feels like a modern interpretation of the Silk Road.

If you haven't been to Kashgar, you haven't really been to Xinjiang! The food in Kashgar, the beautiful scenery of the old city of Kashgar, and the hospitality of the people of Kashgar are all impressive. It is definitely a place worth visiting twice.

The ancient city of Kashgar has six special features: First, it has a long history of more than 2,100 years; second, it has a splendid culture, being the intersection of three major religions and four major civilizations; third, it has a strong local flavor, and is known as the "hometown of delicious food", "rich in fruits and vegetables", "rich in singing and dancing", "rich in bazaars", "rich in jade", "hometown of longevity", and "hometown of beauties"; fourth, it has a unique style, with crisscrossing streets and alleys and staggered buildings. It is currently the only intact maze-like urban block in China; fifth, it is rich in resources, covering geographical landscapes, water scenery, ruins, architectural facilities, cultural activities, tourist products and other tourist resources; sixth, it has many intangible cultural heritages, including the world-class material cultural heritage Twelve Muqams, the national intangible cultural heritage earthenware, etc., and is a national 5A-level scenic spot.

The soul of Kashgar is in the old city of Kashgar, which represents the ancient past of the city, the peaceful present, and if lucky, the future. This is a beautiful old city, and this is an old city with a story. I have visited many ancient cities, but the best one for preserving historical traces is the old city of Kashgar. Wandering in the streets of the old city, it seems that what you see are fragments of history. This is the city closest to the Middle Eastern style, and it is the filming location of "The Kite Runner".

It can be said that this ancient city called "Kashgar" is the most foreign-like place in China. Looking back on this place, the background is a piece of ochre yellow, but it reveals exquisiteness and elegance everywhere. The vines that have not yet bloomed are entangled on the walls, the geometric patterns of Islamic style on the buildings, the cheerful sound of piano and flute in the teahouse, the aroma of barbecue everywhere, the smiling old people and the laughing teenagers... In this westernmost city of the motherland, it seems that I have found a reassuring home thousands of miles away and had a dream of an exotic place.

By GAGA |

The ancient city of Kashgar retains the western style. It is different from the cities with tall buildings and the many ancient towns we have visited in the mainland. Although there are many shops and stalls in the ancient city, it does not feel commercial. People's homes are here. This city is a living city. Walking on the street, you can hear the hawkers' calls and meet children playing games at the corner. The houses here are ancient raw earth buildings, with carved wooden windows and colorful paintings dotted in the yellow walls of earthen tiles. Each house is different and needs to be explored slowly.

Kashgar City has a long history, which can be traced back to the Shule Kingdom more than 2,100 years ago. It is one of the 36 countries in the Western Regions recorded in the Book of Han. The Book of Han, Biography of the Western Regions, says: "Shule Kingdom... The king governed Shule City... There were cities and towns." Shule City was later changed to Pantu City. According to the research of historians in recent years, the Pantu (tuó) site is very likely to be the ancient city of Eskesa in the southeast suburbs of Kashgar City today, located on the high port at the junction of the Kizil River and the Tuman River. In the Eastern Han Dynasty (73 AD), Ban Chao was stationed here for 17 years and conquered the Western Regions in one fell swoop. The formation of Shule City (now Kashgar City) was undoubtedly at least one or two hundred years earlier on this basis. Zhang Qian's written records of the ancient city of Kashgar are also the earliest written records at present. Therefore, a Zhang Qian Park was specially built in the suburbs of Kashgar City to commemorate him.

The bazaar and residential areas inside the ancient city are clearly divided, with the Id Kah Mosque as the boundary. Norbeishi Road in the west is the food bazaar, while Kumudaerwa Road is the handicraft bazaar; Alkyorda Road has the most barber shops, while Ordashik Road has the most popular night market; Konak Bazar Road has the most department stores, while Azhaya Road has the most abundant souvenirs.

In order to develop tourism, the current Kashgar Old City has actually been rebuilt on a large scale in 2015. It is no longer authentic. However, the sewage in the old city was evaporated and the garbage was blown away by the wind. It is hard to say how many people are willing to come here. It would be a pain for anyone to live here. So if you want to see the original flavor, you have to go to the high-rise residential area opposite the main gate of the old city. However, it is now fenced off and is said to be undergoing renovation. It may become a tourist attraction in a few years.

Although the old city of Kashgar has undergone modernization, it is more in line with a modern tourist attraction. You can discover more surprises by seeing more, walking more and strolling around.

The old city of Kashgar has a history of more than 2,000 years. Its humanities, residential architecture, local customs, and food culture are all authentic foreign customs. The Uyghur people are gentle, kind, hardworking, and love life. It is a city that you must visit and is worth visiting.

The streets and alleys in the old city of Kashgar are crisscrossed, with flexible and varied layouts and winding paths. Most of the houses are made of earth, wood, brick and wood. Many traditional houses have a history of hundreds of years. It is the only maze-like urban block in China that features Islamic culture.

The opening ceremony of the east gate of the ancient city will be held at 10:30, 12:00 and 18:00.

The full name of Kashgar Ancient City is Kashgar Ancient City. It has a history of more than 2,100 years. It is known as the soul of Kashgar and is one of the most famous in southern Xinjiang. The ancient city is now very well protected. What is commendable is that the ancient city is not only a cultural relic, but also a place for local residents to live. At the same time, each street in the ancient city has been planned into various types of bazaars, including flower hat bazaar, wooden bazaar, bronze bazaar, flower pot bazaar, oil painting bazaar...

Some people say that if you haven't been to Kashgar, you haven't really been to Xinjiang. Although I cannot fully agree with this statement, there is some truth to it. In Kashgar, you can experience the purer Uyghur style and exotic customs. The ancient city's unique civil and brick-wood structures integrate the Han and Tang dynasties, ancient Roman heritage and modern Uyghur life characteristics. The streets and alleys in the ancient city crisscross like a maze.

You can stroll around the busy and crowded streets. When you get tired, you can walk deep into the alleys and find a quiet place to enjoy the warm sunshine. You can also join the children in hutong football and compete with them in your unfamiliar footwork, or find a cafe, taste the strong coffee, and lazily while spending time in the ancient city.

The architecture of Kashgar Old Town is very local. The buildings are not high, usually 2 floors, and the highest 3 floors. The upper part of the windows is semi-circular. Flowers and plants are planted for decoration. The streets are clean, with shops, schools, and many vendors.

As the westernmost border city, Kashgar's level of development was beyond my expectation. There are many popular local attractions, but the old city is the essence. After days of traveling, I no longer want to see the beautifully built Xiangfei Tomb, nor do I want to join in the fun at various bazaars. The leisure of the old city is just what I want.

Earthy yellow is the main color of the old city of Kashgar, and every household has exquisite carvings on the walls, doors and windows. Official introduction says that the architectural style combines the Han and Tang dynasties, ancient Roman heritage and the characteristics of modern Uyghur life. It is the only maze-like urban block in China that features Islamic culture.

The main streets of the old city are filled with a dazzling array of exotic goods, but once you turn into the inner streets and alleys, you will see a completely different scene. The streets and alleys are full of old people sitting in the sun, drinking tea, and children chasing and playing.

I heard that when the Kite Runner was filmed here, there was no scenic spot yet, and the town looked even older. After becoming famous, it was inevitably impacted by the tide of commercialization, and the old town naturally became more and more refined. However, the hurried travelers did not disrupt the tranquility here, but were instead infected by their naturalness and comfort.

In the evening, we turned around and came to a relatively open small square. The movie "The Visitor on the Iceberg" was projected on the central wall. The snow-capped mountains, grasslands, rivers, and gravel set off the desolate, sad, or touching plots, with the scenery representing the emotions and the emotions accompanying the scenery. "Why are the flowers so red? Why are they so red? Ah, they are as red as burning fire, symbolizing pure friendship and love." The familiar melody sounded, and I hummed along unconsciously. I have to say that after experiencing the beauty of the iceberg and the exotic customs of the frontier, watching this classic movie again is really a different experience.

If you haven't been to Kashgar, you haven't been to Xinjiang' Kashgar Old Town is a symbol of Xinjiang's humanities and customs. No one seems to have ever questioned this point. Even though the streets along the street are constantly being renovated and various bazaars are decorated with modern spotlights and fluorescent disks, those rambling streets and alleys still carry the smell of barbecued beef and mutton and smiling faces with exotic styles.

Especially the old people and children, their innocent eyes and kind eyes are intertwined. One is full of curiosity about the world, and tourists' clothes and equipment can become their toys; the other just sits lazily in the sun, as if a soul that has experienced the world can always understand the world through his eyes.

Taking Jiefang North Road as the boundary, the old city of Kashgar can be divided into two parts, east and west. The east is the old city gate, which leads directly to [Gaotai Residences] and [Central and West Asia International Trade Market] (Kashgar Grand Bazaar). "Bazaar" means market in Uyghur. The whole old city is also divided into multiple bazaars according to the characteristics of the goods, such as flower pot bazaar, hat bazaar, jade bazaar, etc., which are basically distributed in the east of the old city. The west is basically local residential houses, with a stronger atmosphere of life. Of course, the famous century-old teahouse is in the west. There are countless delicious foods distributed throughout the old city, which is undoubtedly a paradise for foodies. You can arrange the route according to your favorite direction.

Kashgar is located in the southwest of Xinjiang and is the westernmost border city in China. It is located in the central part of the Eurasian continent, bordering the Taklimakan Desert to the east, the Karakoram Mountains to the south, and the Pamir Plateau to the west.

It borders Tajikistan to the west, Afghanistan and Pakistan to the southwest, and Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, India and other countries.

Kashgar City is the seat of the Kashgar Prefecture Administrative Office. It was formerly known as Shule and was one of the famous "Four Towns of Anxi" in history. It is an ancient city with a history of more than 2,000 years.

Kashgar, a famous historical and cultural city in China, is the terminus of the Southern Xinjiang Railway. It is also an important commercial port on the ancient Silk Road and an important intersection of Eastern and Western economy, culture and civilization.

Kashgar is a multi-ethnic area, with the Uyghur minority accounting for about 90% of the total population. In addition, the old city of Kashgar retains a large number of Uyghur-style buildings, which have significant ethnic characteristics and incorporate some Western elements.

Southern Xinjiang is more vast and sparsely populated than northern Xinjiang, with less convenient transportation. Tourism development is slower than in northern Xinjiang, and there are relatively fewer foreign populations.

This will allow Kashgar, which has a long history, to preserve more traditional culture and become the place that best reflects the ethnic customs of Xinjiang.

Therefore, some people say that if you haven’t been to Kashgar, you haven’t been to Xinjiang.

Coming out of the Grand Bazaar, crossing the East Bridge is the Northeast Gate of the Old City. The Old City of Kashgar is a 5A scenic spot, but there is no entrance fee. We chose to take a sightseeing bus for a tour, 30 yuan per person. The bus will depart when there are 10 people, with a guide, which is quite humane! The sightseeing bus takes tourists around the old city and finally returns to the Northeast Gate, which takes 1-1.5 hours. The guide will talk while walking, and will stop halfway for tourists to take pictures. The old city is really big, and it has some exotic flavors, especially these alleys, which are quiet, neat and clean.

Although the Kashgar Old Town Scenic Area is a national 5A scenic area, it is not commercial at all. On the contrary, it has well preserved the original life atmosphere of the locals. Kashgar is an extremely important trade distribution center on the Silk Road and a must-pass route for import and export trade between the East and the West in ancient times. A large number of Uyghurs live here. The native earth buildings with ethnic characteristics, various carved walls, doors and windows with gorgeous colors, and the carefully maintained flowers and plants in front of each household are full of Western style. Women wearing distinctive ethnic costumes chat in the streets and alleys, white-bearded old men sit at the door of the shop and knock on copperware, uncles selling grilled naan and grilled skewers on the street shout for business, and children who have just finished school run in the criss-crossing alleys and play and fight. All these keep this old city with a history of more than 2,000 years always alive and vibrant.

The old city of Kashgar is full of exotic charm. It is a different feeling to stay in the quiet ancient city, walk through the small streets and alleys, try the roadside snacks, and look at the dazzling array of handicrafts.

By I don't like traveling |

I am a native of Kashgar. The building where I live faces the old city. Standing under the window, I can see the old city behind. When I was a child, it was not a 5A-level scenic spot. I remember there were many blacksmiths? There were also several mosques. At that time, it was their residential area. The grandmother of a Uyghur classmate lived there. There were always baked buns, baked naan, and baked lamb skewers. I also went to pick black mulberries. My father loved to eat ramen and barbecue in a small restaurant.

Later, when I was in the third year of high school, probably in 2013 or 2014, the old city changed its appearance and gradually became more and more beautiful. At that time, many people prayed next to the mosque. After it became a scenic spot, there were many shops selling small things, but these things can be regarded as Xinjiang characteristics, such as butterfly clips, fruit baskets that seemed to be imported from Pakistan, and some handicrafts. After entering college, I would go for a walk in the back when I went home during the holidays, and I found that the noodle shop my father loved to eat was super delicious. However, when I went back half a year ago, the noodle shop was no longer open... Because of the scenic spot, cars were not allowed to enter at first, and later even some entrances were not allowed to allow non-staff Uyghurs to enter... The noodle shop lost many regular customers and closed down. Not only this one, but several were closed. But I heard from my mother that everyone was allowed to enter later. In addition, the food sold is also more honest, and locals will also go to eat.

In recent years, a section of city wall has been built near the entrance, and many new shops have opened there. My parents started taking walks there in the summer. There are also delicious food and performances across the street, which they are very satisfied with.

There are not many photos on my phone. The noodle shop guy is a bit handsome. There is a lot of beef in the noodles. The beef and mutton here are of good quality. There are also local chickens. As a result, I don’t eat chicken much after leaving Xinjiang because it’s all broiler chicken. You can eat a large plate of chicken belt noodles. If you are not used to eating mutton, you can try the mutton in the pilaf. I was not used to mutton when I was a child, but the large pieces of mutton in the pilaf are OK.

I saw someone talking about safety issues. I have lived in Kashgar for 18 years. Traveling here is not as risky as I imagined. Finally, I would like to recommend Xinjiang fried rice noodles! I love it! If you can eat spicy food, you can try it. If you like meat and exotic customs, come to Xinjiang~

This alley structure without distance is a paradise for children to play. Several children in the courtyard can't tell whose family is whose. Their childhood was spent in these countless alleys. The thousand-year-old ancient city is enough for them to explore. Every brick and every stone hides so much happiness, sadness and confusion. They grow up in experience. One day, they suddenly find that the alleys also have an end. The ancient city is not the whole world. Maybe it's time to leave. However, no matter how far they go, there must be a story like Amir and Hassan in their hearts. The Kite Runner is running in an alley in the city.

1⃣️It is absolutely not recommended to travel in March and April. At this time, Kashgar is very dusty. You will be covered in dust after going out for a day, and it is almost impossible to see the blue sky. June to September is the best season to travel to Kashgar. At this time, you can also go to Tashkurgan County, the Pamir Plateau and the Khunjerab Pass.

2⃣️Kashgar has a large temperature difference between day and night, so be careful to add or remove clothes and prevent colds. Kashgar has very strong ultraviolet rays, so be careful to protect yourself from the sun. Kashgar is very dry, so be sure to drink plenty of water.

3⃣️Although there are no mosquitoes in Kashgar, there are fleas, so insect repellent is still very necessary.

4⃣️When traveling, you must pay attention to safety and keep your belongings safe, especially your mobile phone and ID card.

5⃣️When you go out, respect others and yourself. If there is any dispute, please call the police.

6⃣️Young Uyghur friends can speak Chinese, but older ones may find it a bit difficult.

7⃣️Be discerning when buying local specialties and remember to bargain.

8⃣️A two-day, two-night tour in Kashgar costs about 1,000 yuan per person (including travel expenses and accommodation)

Northeast of Gaotai Dwellings is the famous Kashgar Old Town, also known as Kashgar. It is now an open 5A-level national scenic spot - Kashgar Old Town Scenic Area, and is also the daily life area of the original residents of Kashgar Old Town. This is different from many so-called ancient towns in the mainland, which are almost all new businessmen.

Motor vehicles are prohibited in the old city of Kashgar. The streets and alleys are winding and connected in all directions. The streets are clean and tidy. We met a gentleman who bent down to pick up the candy wrappers thrown on the ground by children. He also enthusiastically showed us the way. We were impressed by the high quality of the residents in the old city. There are potted flowers in front of every house, and the doors and windows are carved and painted, with a style full of Western art characteristics. It is said that at 10:30 every morning, there is a city opening ceremony performed by Uyghur beauties, which is very eye-catching. Unfortunately, we did not meet it due to time arrangement.

The ancient city is actually a relatively large urban area, which can be seen in the Gaode map. There is a Nurlan Hotel with a good location and unique features.

The ancient city is very big. I walked slowly for half a day but only walked less than half of it. It is not like a tourist attraction. You have to walk and feel it. There is a place that claims to be a century-old teahouse. It is very cheap. There are many copper products for sale, but the prices are quite high. You have to bargain bravely. There are also musical instruments for sale.

Generally speaking, it is a good place for leisure. It is integrated with the original residential area. There is a primary school, many children running around, and a peaceful atmosphere.

Well-deserved

Kashgar Old City is an old city with a history of hundreds of years.

Most of them are characterized by Islamic culture

Urban blocks built with earth, brick and wood structures

My favorite place to travel

Like walking in a maze

Saw a lot of new things

Every house has its own unique door

When you walk on the street, a child will suddenly appear in your sight and say hello to you.

Wandering in the streets and alleys of the old city, you will find yourself back where you started. The floor tiles in the streets and alleys are also very particular. The streets and alleys paved with hexagonal tiles can be connected in all directions.

When you come here, you will see many children playing freely on the streets. When you come here, even though you may not speak the same language, people will smile at you with kindness.

The attractions mentioned in the above itinerary
