Mangling tree stands alone in the forest

芒令独树成林

This tree is located next to Mangling Village. From a distance, there is a lush green forest on the left side of the road. But if you look closely, you can find that this forest is actually just a banyan tree. It grows on the side of National Highway 320 just after entering Ruili City. It seems to be standing there waiting for visitors from afar. Therefore, the people of Ruili call it the Welcoming Banyan Tree.
This welcoming banyan tree is not very big, ranking fifth in Dehong Prefecture, but it has a unique shape and various left, right, front and back postures, so it is favored by many film and television experts. More than ten films and TV series, such as "Border Village Beacon Fire", "Peacock Princess", "Traveler in Handcuffs", and "Journey to the West" were shot here. The famous movie star Wang Xiaotang swung on this tree, and Liu Xiaoqing lingered in the woods.

Located along National Highway 320, it appears to be a lush grove from a distance, but it's actually just a single tree. The scenic area is small, with admission fees of 15 yuan per person and 10 yuan for those over 60. This large, green tree, known as the "Welcoming Banyan" by the Dai people, is over 500 years old. It comprises three intertwined banyan trees, with a canopy covering 0.8 hectares. The largest stands 36 meters tall, with a diameter at breast height of 576 centimeters. While this Welcoming Banyan isn't particularly large, ranking fifth in Dehong Prefecture, its unique shape, with its varied left-right, front-back, and back-facing positions, has made it a favorite of many film and television professionals.

The Mangling Solitary Tree Forest grows beside the National Highway 320 just before entering Ruili City. It is lush and tall. Because the forest is formed by a single banyan tree, the people of Ruili call it the "Welcoming Banyan Tree".

By Eagle |

There are many such banyan trees in the tropics, so you don’t necessarily have to buy a ticket to see them.

By NBA |

The Solitary Tree Forest is located near Manzhang Village in the border trade zone of Daluo Town, 3.5 kilometers south of the Daluo Town Government, near the China-Myanmar border. This ancient banyan tree, over 900 years old, boasts 34 roots standing on the ground, standing over 50 meters tall and covering an area of over 2,000 square meters. Its branches and leaves resemble both a fence and a green barrier, creating a remarkable spectacle in the tropical rainforest and defying the common saying that "a single thread cannot make a line, and a single tree cannot make a forest."

There's a black market selling health supplements. A man pretending to be a tourist was trying to haggle over the price, saying this product can cure high blood pressure and needs to be ground into a powder. He asked the clerk to grind it into powder and then weigh it. After weighing it for us, he demanded over 6,000 yuan. Don't be fooled by them.

By Sun Jingkaren |

It's very small, and it takes about 20 to 30 minutes to walk around. There are only two banyan trees. There are also a few peacocks and some chickens running around. Fortunately, it is close to the national highway, so you can take a look. The ticket price is 15 yuan, and the elderly and children are 10 yuan. If you don't have time, you can just look at the photos in the travel notes.

By soul |

It is recommended to visit this attraction. The whole 20 minutes is enough to see it. It is a unique place with local special plants. It is said that the leader has been here before.

By Arctic wolf |

I think if you have enough time, you can still see the single tree forest. The scenic area is not big and you can finish it in a short time. It is nice to take pictures here when the sun sets.

By China-TravelNote Newbie |

This scenic spot was like a joke, and we were out in ten minutes.

By Maomao |

Personally, I think if you have been to Xishuangbanna and seen the banyan trees there and their spectacular aerial roots, there is no need to go to this single tree forest.

By mppp |

A single tree forest is a phenomenon where a branch grows into the ground, using the branch as a root to produce new trees. This single tree becomes a forest, hence the name. This is a truly remarkable natural phenomenon that can be seen in Wangtian Valley and Forest Park.

The Dushuchenglin Scenic Area is located in Mangling Village, Ruili City, right next to National Highway 320. The transportation is very convenient.

It is true that this place is compact, but it is also true that it is vast.

The word "compact" refers to the area of the scenic spot, while the word "broad" refers to the mind of the old banyan tree.

If you lower your head and walk quickly, you can finish the journey in just a few minutes.

If you look up, stop and see the broad bosom of the banyan tree stretching out in all directions;

Such a broad mind will surely make you admire and touch you.

Even if it's pouring rain, the old banyan tree stretches out its broad, thick palms to shield passersby from the rain; like a kind old grandfather, it shelters those who come here year after year, day after day. If you lean against its upright body, you can also fall asleep peacefully.

There must be many banyan trees in the deep rainforest mountains of Dehong Prefecture that are larger than the ones here.

But in terms of the peculiar roots and perfect tree shape, the best one is the banyan tree that stands alone in the forest, compared to the Mori Natural Rainforest Scenic Area we visited later.

So it is still recommended to go.

By China-TravelNote users |

I took my daughter to the mountains to meet friends and collect honey together. The big tree behind the beehives is bigger than this one. It's just that the transportation is inconvenient. I want to trick people from the city who have never seen the rural market. We came from the mountains and felt that we were ripped off by the ticket price...

By sunflower |

It's a very small attraction. It only takes a few minutes to go in and out. The main thing is to see a tree...

By Murong Eighteen Swords |

I went to western Yunnan in January this year. After Mangshi, I went to Dayingjiang and Dushulin in Ruili. The attractions were not big and the ticket price was not high. I saw the scenery that can only be formed by the tropical rainforest climate!

By in a hurry |

There is also a huge banyan tree, but it is not what I saw on the Internet. Not only is there a parking lot, but the scenic area is also well maintained.

By drizzle |

The scenic area needs to be small, and it takes at most 30 minutes to visit. Things outside are very expensive, and a drink costs more than 10 yuan.

By Alone at home |

I regret not going there. There is only one tree and they charge for it. It is all gray.

By June Lotus |

The tour guide said that most of the trees here are banyan trees, which have a high survival rate, good climatic conditions, and branches connected together.

By Tengchong Mangshi Ruili |

I was born and raised in Tengchong, and I'm quite familiar with the tourist routes, attractions, and folk customs of Tengchong, Mangshi, and Ruili. Tengchong is a health resort paradise with blue skies and white clouds every day, where volcanoes and hot springs coexist. Tengchong, the first city on the extreme border, Mangshi, is a prefecture-level city inhabited by the Jingpo and Dai ethnic groups. Going there is mainly to experience the ethnic customs and unique ethnic characteristics. Ruili is famous for its border characteristics. There is an old saying that describes Ruili like this: when you arrive in Ruili, it's like having one foot in China and one foot in Myanmar! If you want to visit Tengchong, Mangshi, and Ruili, please contact me! We mainly have sedans and commercial vehicles. Charter one of our cars to take you on a different tour of Yunnan! Nothing special. The driver told me to go in and take a look. He bought tickets for each person for 8 yuan. We walked around and left.

Since it is not common to see large banyan trees in Shanghai, I think this attraction is not necessary.

By Dudu |

The Dushuchenglin Scenic Area is located in Mangling Village, Ruili, along National Highway 320. Legend has it that there was once only a single banyan tree. Over time, it grew larger and larger, its roots digging into the soil until the trunk and roots were indistinguishable, resulting in the present-day forest. The treetops resemble a giant parasol, offering a pleasant shade even on sunny days. Admission to the scenic area is 20 yuan. The area is small, so strolling through the forest, stopping to explore, takes only half an hour.

By Avatar |

A very ordinary attraction, just a big banyan tree.

By Zozo Nongnong |

Except that the tickets are a little expensive, the scenic spot is great. Go take pictures.

By Sunshine*Treasure |

Hello everyone, does anyone know the WeChat ID or mobile number of the place that sells gold sand jewelry in the Dushuchenglin scenic area? Thank you

By nowno |

Ruili is generally a trading city, mainly for experiencing the Sino-Myanmar customs.

By Qianxi chestnut |

I went there during the Dragon Boat Festival in 2016. The transportation was inconvenient. It was a rip-off. There was only one tree and you had to pay a ticket.

By Alone with the wind |

The entrance fee to the Dushuchenglin scenic area is 15 yuan, which is quite affordable! It seemed not far from the "One Village, Two Countries" scenic area. We also passed a tourist spot called "Hanshabian Village," but I didn't go in. Since we were chartering a car, the driver was the only one who drove around, so we didn't pay attention to the directions. Besides, the woman was confused and insisted on going to town to replace the battery first to make things more secure.

The battery replacement was quick and I didn't take it seriously. It didn't take more than ten minutes to get to the scenic spot.

The scenic area is very small if you don't see the "Peacock Garden". After entering the gate and walking a few steps forward, you can see the giant tree.

A single tree makes a forest. As the name suggests, this tree must be very big, and the area covered by its crown or the sky blocked by it is like a small forest.

But when I got right up to it, I realized it was true.

In order to capture the full view of the tree, I switched to an ultra-wide-angle lens before entering the scenic area, but I still couldn't cover it all.

I once saw a massive banyan tree in Fujian's Yunshuiyao scenic area, its canopy covering over 2,000 square meters. Several teahouses were operating beneath the tree, offering tourists a rest, and the canopy above them served as a natural shade. I read about it and learned that the canopy of this giant tree could also cover over 2,000 square meters.

The Dushuchenglin scenic area is so small. I saw a "Peacock Garden" in front, but I didn't see any peacocks or tourists in the garden. Forget it. Besides, I have seen enough peacocks with their tails spread in Xishuangbanna, so I prepared to leave.

Before leaving this small scenic area, I saw a tree growing horizontally and took a few photos for you to see.

By Deng Xiaochu |

It's a small attraction, like a small park, and you can walk through it in just over ten minutes. It's worth a visit if you're passing through the Mori Scenic Area on your way to Ruili. The entrance fee is 15 yuan. It's just okay, but you don't need to come specifically for it, it's not very interesting.

By 9 carats |

Nothing else, just good greenery. The scenic area is small, but you won't regret it if you see it, and it would be a pity if you don't see it.

By passerby |

It's a small scenic spot, located on the road from Mangshi to Ruili, near a roadside village in Ruili. You can walk around and take a photo before leaving.

By love_cestlavie |

The solitary tree forms a forest, and the entrance fee is not expensive. The corresponding scenic spot is also unusually small. I came here just to take a photo with the "Ruili" mentioned by Guo Moruo, and it can be considered as a visit to Ruili (a kind of visit feeling...). If you are short on time or have no interest in Guo Moruo's calligraphy, you can skip it.

By Mr. Yang |

It feels like a small park with just a few big trees!

By Raindrop Wind Chime |

One Tree Forest lives up to its name: a single tree forms an entire forest. The park isn't very large, but the main attraction is the banyan tree and a few iconic spots for photos, including Guo Moruo's inscription "Ruili (What a Big Tree)," the banyan trees, the large rock marked "One Tree Forest," and the money tree, all popular tourist attractions.

It wasn't crowded when we went, and the weather was quite hot, but walking through the park was pleasant with the lush greenery of the trees as a backdrop. There's also a jewelry and jade shop in the park, so I recommend checking it out. There are also many food and specialty stalls at the park entrance, some of which are quite affordable, so you might want to check them out.

The tickets are recyclable, but I still have the ticket stub. I'll take a photo as a souvenir.

There are many similar scenes in the border areas of Yunnan, and those who have never seen them find them strange.

I feel that the Solitary Tree Forest is not very interesting, maybe I have seen it too much, but since it is a tourist attraction, it must have something special.

By Happy Life |

Mangling Village is located in the southeast of Ruili City, on the side of National Highway 320. The scenery is not as good as that of Daluo in Xishuangbanna.

Solitary tree forests are quite common in Xishuangbanna. They are right next to G320. There is a gate there and they charge admission. I didn’t go in, but just looked at it from the outside and passed by.

Coming out of the national border, along National Highway 320, you will soon arrive at Dushuchenglin. The ticket price is 15 yuan per person. The scenic spot can be said to be pocket-sized. If you look carefully, you can finish the visit in less than half an hour.

A single tree makes a forest. Since you are here, it is not a bad idea to take a look, but there is really no need to make a special trip.

By Changjing Road |

It's not worth going. The garden is small, with only a large banyan tree, nothing much to see. Also, the attraction is right on the road, and there's a lot of dust and heavy traffic on the road, making the experience quite unpleasant.

The scenery is average, mainly the tree shape formed after many years of growth of large trees.

The unique feature of the forest of single trees makes people sigh at the greatness of nature. The trees have intricate root systems and huge trunks. Personally, I think it is worth a visit to see the wonders of nature. It is very good.

The Dushuchenglin scenic area is small, and the main entrance looks unassuming, but the interior is quite pleasant. The scenery is beautiful, compact, and exquisite. The trees in the rain and tourists holding umbrellas create a relaxed and carefree atmosphere. The local specialties sold outside the scenic area are cheaper than elsewhere.

This is actually a park, and there is also a shopping spot selling coffee in the park.

Twenty minutes is enough to complete the tour. The main attraction is a large banyan tree in the scenic area. Because the branches of the mother tree spread out in all directions, aerial roots grow from the branches, and the aerial roots grow into thick trunks in the soil, and then spread out to further places, forming a banyan forest, which is breathtaking.

The ticket price for this attraction is 10/person. Although the attraction is not big, it is worth a visit because of its good viewing experience. The scenery is pretty good. As soon as you enter the door, you can see succulents grown in coconut shells, which you like very much.

A single tree forest is a tree whose aerial roots extend into the ground and grow a main trunk. So there is not much point in spending the entrance fee to enter a single tree forest. You can just look at it from the wall.

The so-called "one-tree forest" is a massive banyan tree over 300 years old, standing over 30 meters tall, with a canopy covering an area of approximately 5-6 mu (approximately 1.5-1.8 acres). Numerous aerial roots grow from its branches, extending vertically down from the trunk and piercing the soil, forming a unique "one-tree forest" phenomenon. Locals consider banyan trees sacred and plant them, never cutting them down. Consequently, banyan trees make up the largest proportion of all tree species in Dehong, with over 600 trees over 100 years old.

"A Single Tree Forms a Forest" is a phrase written by Guo Moruo on a large rock within the scenic area. Upon entering the scenic area, looking up, you'll see 32 aerial roots of varying sizes extending vertically from the main branches of the 28-meter-tall ancient banyan tree, piercing the soil and forming a cluster of interconnected prop roots. This creates a scene of multiple trunks forming a single tree, a scene that inspires awe. Walking beneath the banyan tree and observing its branches closely, you'll see a tangled web of interlocking roots, a truly spectacular sight. It's well worth a visit.

By liangjian1970 |

The aerial roots of a banyan tree can grow into a forest. It is said that the movie "Journey to the West" was filmed here.

The trunk of the banyan tree has a breast diameter of more than 2 meters, and there are still many aerial roots intertwined on it. The strong buttress roots penetrate into the ground, making it appear very stable.

By Turning Qi |

Mangling Dushu Chenglin is just a tree. I don't think there is anything to see. There is only a ladyboy show here, imitating the ladyboy show in Thailand. The ticket for Dushu Chenglin alone is not expensive, but it becomes expensive with the ladyboy show. The package cost 288. The driver gave us a discount of 250 per person, which I think is still not worth it.

By baobao |

The ancient banyan tree that stands alone in the forest is more than 900 years old. It has 31 roots standing on the ground, is more than 70 meters tall, and has a tree area of 120 square meters. Its branches and leaves look like both a fence and a green barrier.
