It is the meeting place of Xu Xian and White Snake in the Legend of the New White Snake, which adds a lot of romance to this long bridge.
When the winter snow starts to fall, the ice and snow on the sunny side of the bridge melt, but the shady side is still covered with residual snow. From a high vantage point, the bridge seems to be broken, forming the famous "Broken Bridge with Residual Snow".
It can be used as the starting point for touring the West Lake, from the Broken Bridge to the Baidi Causeway to Gushan, and then visit various scenic spots around the West Lake in turn.

The "Broken Bridge with Residual Snow" stele pavilion is located northeast of the Broken Bridge. To be honest, if I were to read the four characters "Broken Bridge with Residual Snow" myself, I would definitely read them as "Lulou Zhenxue"... We little girls really can't appreciate such calligraphy, haha. It originated from the fact that when the winter snow first fell, the ice and snow on the sunny side of the bridge melted, but the shady side was still covered with residual snow. From a high place, the bridge seemed to be broken but not broken, thus forming the famous "Broken Bridge with Residual Snow". Standing at the bridge head and looking around, you can see the distant mountains and nearby waters.
After visiting Leifeng Pagoda, I took bus No. 51 to the "Broken Bridge and Residual Snow" on the other side of the lake. For this section of the road, if you are not a cycling enthusiast, I would recommend taking the bus rather than taking a taxi.
PS: There is a long section of road on the way to the Broken Bridge where motor vehicles are not allowed to drive, so you can only go there on foot.
It is said that it feels desolate when it snows. Of course, this was said in ancient times. I'm afraid that nowadays when it snows on the Broken Bridge there are only crowds of people.
"Has it snowed on Broken Bridge? I looked at the lake, the cold moon in the water is like a butterfly, melting with my fingertips." Xu Song, one of the few serious musicians in the Chinese music scene, sang "Broken Bridge and Residual Snow" and it became popular all over the country. This is a famous view on West Lake, famous for the bridge deck looming on the lake surface in winter snow. It is one of the ten scenic spots of West Lake. Broken Bridge and Residual Snow is a good place to enjoy the snow scenery of West Lake. The famous Chinese folk legend "The Legend of the White Snake" adds a romantic touch to the Broken Bridge.
There are so many versions about the origin of the name of Broken Bridge. My favorite version is: when the West Lake is covered with snow after a winter snow, the ice and snow on the sunny side of the bridge melt, but there is still silver-like snow on the shady side. Looking from a high place, it seems as if the long white chain is broken here, and the bridge seems to be broken but not broken, so it is named "Residual Snow".
Method 1: Take a panoramic photo of the Broken Bridge. The West Lake is really crowded. When we come to the Broken Bridge, in addition to walking on the bridge, we can also take a few panoramic photos on the shore of the West Lake. This not only avoids the crowds, but also makes the blue sky and clear water look very beautiful.
Method 2: When taking photos of the Broken Bridge, remember to add lotus flowers as embellishments to create a unique look.
If you want to take a good picture of the lotus, it is best to go in the morning, especially an hour after the sun comes out, when the light is best. Sometimes, there are too many people on the Broken Bridge, so you can blur the background and highlight the lotus for your photo. This will not only reduce the crowds on the Broken Bridge, but also perfectly combine the Broken Bridge and the lotus, making the photo more beautiful and less awkward. Don't forget to take a close-up photo while taking a panoramic photo of the Broken Bridge. Don't miss the beautiful lotus.
Shooting method three: There are many exquisite small pavilions around the Broken Bridge, which are decorated with green plants. By using the framing shooting technique, beautiful photos with artistic conception can be easily captured.
For the same scene, I used a square composition for the landscape photo. If you want to continue taking portraits, I recommend a horizontal composition to cover a wider background. When the light is insufficient, use the silhouette effect, and the photo may turn out better.
Photo shooting method 4: Pay attention to interacting with the surrounding environment. Girls who love traveling have a naughty heart. In addition to taking beautiful artistic photos, it is also good to take interesting interactive photos with sculptures and trees.
When you are taking photos of the Broken Bridge, don't forget that the Bai Causeway is also a beautiful scenery of the West Lake! "I love the east of the lake, the Baisha Causeway under the shade of green poplars" is exactly what it means. It starts from the Broken Bridge, passes the Jindai Bridge, and ends at Pinghu Qiuyue. The scenery along the way is very beautiful, and the trees are also very unique. You must snap a portrait.
2020.10.7 The last attraction of the West Lake trip is Broken Bridge with Residual Snow. It is too famous, but it feels so-so in reality. It should be in winter to feel the charm of Broken Bridge with Residual Snow. There are many tourists;
The Broken Bridge with Remaining Snow is also the most visited stop. It is said that on statutory holidays, there are so many people that the bridge is about to collapse.
The Broken Bridge looks good when photographed from the left or the right. The angle on the right is better, with large lotus leaves. Although there are no lotus flowers now, Lin Daiyu’s words: Leaving the withered lotus leaves to listen to the sound of rain is just right at this moment.
"Beside the broken bridge outside the post station, lonely flowers bloom without an owner. It is already dusk and I am alone in sorrow, and the wind and rain make it worse.
I have no intention of struggling for spring, I just let the flowers be jealous. They fall into the mud and turn into dust, but the fragrance remains the same.
------Song Dynasty Lu You
It is really a spring rain and no one crosses the Broken Bridge. The small boat pushes out of the willow shade. The Broken Bridge is still beautiful even without the snow. It may be the blurred night sky, which has an intoxicating texture.
After dark, the West Lake is as smooth as a mirror, reflecting the Broken Bridge. The Broken Bridge is also famous because of the famous Chinese folk love legend "The Legend of the White Snake". White Snake and Xu Xian met here, returned to the city on the same boat, and borrowed an umbrella to express their love, which added a romantic touch to the scenery of the Broken Bridge.
Ming Dynasty poet Hong Cheng wrote in his poem "Idle View of Broken Bridge": "I walk leisurely up to the Broken Bridge, and see endless beautiful scenery. It is easy to weave smoke from willows, but it is hard to keep the shadows of birds on the green screen. A skirt is dragged diagonally around the waist, and the scenery floats across the horizon. The wanderer has forgotten the worldly burdens recently, and misses the old elegance of the hermit."
The Broken Bridge of West Lake is located at the watershed between Beili Lake and Outer West Lake. One end of the bridge spans Beishan Road, and the other end is connected to Baidi. It was also known as Baoyou Bridge in the Southern Song Dynasty, also known as Duanjia Bridge. The current bridge was rebuilt in 1941. There are "Clouds and Water in the Light" waterside pavilion and "Broken Bridge with Residual Snow" stele pavilion beside the bridge. There are different opinions on the connotation of the Broken Bridge with Residual Snow. Generally speaking, it refers to the fact that after the winter snow, the ice and snow on the sunny side of the bridge melt, but there is still residual snow on the shady side like silver. Looking from a high place, the bridge seems to be broken but not broken. Among the many large and small bridges in West Lake, it is the most famous. "Broken Bridge with Residual Snow" is one of the ten scenic spots of West Lake. Standing at the bridge head, looking around, you can see the distant mountains and nearby waters. It is a good place to enjoy the snow scenery of West Lake. The story of the Chinese folk love legend "The Legend of the White Snake" took place here. The White Snake and Xu Xian met on the Broken Bridge, which added a romantic color to the scenery of the Broken Bridge.
Take a boat trip to the West Lake and go to the island to see the "Broken Bridge" from a distance. It feels so-so. It is probably famous because of the legend of White Snake. It is good for leisure, such as running.
One of the most famous attractions in West Lake. There are a lot of people during the National Day holiday, so go early.
Although I didn't like watching the Legend of the White Snake when I was a kid, I was familiar with the stories of borrowing an umbrella while touring the lake, flooding Jinshan Mountain, and meeting on the Broken Bridge. When you come to West Lake in Hangzhou, you must visit the Broken Bridge to see the place where the White Snake and Xu Xian met in the legend. The Broken Bridge connects the lakeshore and the Bai Causeway, so you will pass by it when you visit the Bai Causeway, so you can arrange your trip together.
The lotus leaves are endless and green, and the lotus flowers are red in the sun
It was OK. It was just after the rain when I went there, and the temperature was nearly 40 degrees, which was really hot.
Hmm... I took a bus from Lingyin Temple at night and passed by the Broken Bridge.
I think Hangzhou has a long history and beautiful scenery that makes people linger! However, there are still few road signs in the scenic area, and the lake water is not clear enough, which needs to be improved.
Walking across the Broken Bridge, recalling the story of White Snake, haha
Broken Bridge with Snow is one of the ten scenic spots of West Lake. There is nothing special about the Broken Bridge itself, but the glory of West Lake has naturally risen with it.
There were already a lot of people there at nine in the morning, and the scenery of the lake and the mountains was very beautiful.
The Broken Bridge is actually a representative of the single-hole stone bridge. There were too many people on the bridge, so I didn't take any photos.
Maybe it was the wrong season and the weather was foggy, so I didn’t feel much!
The scenery is beautiful, but it is better not to go when there are more people. It is best to visit in summer.
This name sounds very nice, and people become poetic here.
You are almost there to appreciate the real Broken Bridge and Snow.
One of the famous attractions on West Lake, anyway, only half of the bridge is left
The Broken Bridge of West Lake is located at the watershed between Beili Lake and Outer West Lake in Hangzhou. One end of the bridge spans Beishan Road, and the other end connects to Baidi Bridge. It is said that the Broken Bridge was built as early as the Tang Dynasty. It was called Baoyou Bridge in the Song Dynasty and Duanjia Bridge in the Yuan Dynasty. Among the many bridges of various sizes in West Lake, it is the most famous.
The name Broken Bridge was acquired in the Tang Dynasty. One theory is that the road to Gushan Mountain was cut off here, hence the name; another theory is that Duanjia Bridge is abbreviated as Duanqiao, which is homophonic to Broken Bridge; the story of the Chinese folk love legend "The Legend of the White Snake" took place here. Legend has it that the White Snake and Xu Xian met on the Broken Bridge, which indeed added a romantic touch to the scenery of the Broken Bridge. The existing Broken Bridge was rebuilt in 1941 and renovated in the 1950s. There is a pavilion in the northeast of the bridge, with a monument of "Broken Bridge and Residual Snow" inside.

It was also called Baoyou Bridge and Duanjia Bridge in the Southern Song Dynasty. The current bridge was rebuilt in 1941. It was originally Duanjia Bridge, but it was later renamed Broken Bridge. It is a bridge on Baidi Bridge. It is not worth seeing without snow. It has a story. The imperial calligraphy is very beautiful.
The Broken Bridge is famous because of the story of White Snake. It was January when I went there, but unfortunately there was no snow, which made it feel a little less charming.
It can be used as a starting point for touring the West Lake. From the Broken Bridge, go up the Baidi Causeway to Gushan, and then visit various scenic spots around the West Lake in turn.
Actually, strictly speaking, I did not reach the Broken Bridge, I just viewed it from a distance. However, this did not affect my appreciation of the beautiful scenery. A bridge carries too much poetic and picturesque feeling, too much sadness of parting. It is better to say that I came to see the feelings rather than the bridge!
There were many people taking photos, riding boats, and joining in the fun in the rain and snow like us, but I can say from the bottom of my heart that it was really hard to take pictures of this chaos.
There are crowds of tourists on the Broken Bridge. I wonder if they all come here to hope that they can meet their destined lover on the bridge.
The bridge is full of willow and maple trees, which is very beautiful.
If you go to West Lake in Hangzhou, you will definitely pass by here!
I only saw the Broken Bridge but not the remaining snow. There were so many people on the Broken Bridge that Xu Xian and White Snake had to meet somewhere else. The Broken Bridge is just called the Broken Bridge, but it is not really broken.
The scenery of the Broken Bridge is really beautiful, the sky is very blue, and the West Lake is very big. When you walk in, it feels like you have arrived in a paradise. Forgive me for my poor expression skills and I don’t know how to describe it. It happened that the sky was very blue that day, and there were not many tourists. As soon as you walk in, you feel relaxed, as if all the irritability of the previous day and the fatigue of so many days are gone. There are people flying kites on the Broken Bridge. The kites are very big and fly very high, so high that I can’t even see them with my myopia. It was my mother who told me that I could only see them after I put on my glasses. There are also people taking a boat trip on the West Lake.
Cars are not allowed to enter the scenic area, and you can only take a sightseeing bus.
If you take the sightseeing bus heading towards Broken Bridge and Snow, it usually costs 20 yuan per person. It will stop when you wave, and whether there is a seat depends entirely on luck.
It was Saturday when I went there, around 4pm, and there were so many people that the bridge was packed with people. If you want to have a good sightseeing, I suggest you go on a snowy winter day, on a non-weekend day.
It feels good 👍Slow down but the air doesn't feel as good as before
The scenery at every part of West Lake is beautiful. Broken Bridge is a relatively long bridge and can be used as the starting point for touring West Lake.
Hangzhou West Lake is the best, no objections, thank you. But I personally think that because of the number of tourists and the difficulty of seeing snowy scenery, the recommendation level of Broken Bridge and Residual Snow is lower. But Hangzhou Beishan Street, which starts from Broken Bridge and Residual Snow, is really excellent, excellent, extremely good. In the 22 years since I was born and raised in Hangzhou, my favorite natural and cultural landscape is Beishan Street. From Broken Bridge and Residual Snow, I walked all the way to Beishan Street, and then from Gushan to Baidi (I think, I don’t remember how many dikes there are in West Lake). This section is beautiful no matter spring, summer, autumn or winter.
You can still go for a walk. I believe there will be another beautiful view on rainy days.
"Gushan is not lonely, Changqiao is not long, and Broken Bridge is not broken." The Broken Bridge, one of the three wonders of Hangzhou, is at the foot of Beishan Mountain. I think it's just so-so in summer.
The place where Xu Xian and White Snake met ~ It’s better to come early. There are few people on the Broken Bridge. I arrived around 7 o’clock in the morning.
I went to the Broken Bridge in August and saw the beautiful lotus flowers everywhere.
As soon as we arrived at the Broken Bridge, it started to rain. With the temperature only at 1 or 2 degrees, the famous song Ice Rain by King Liu should have come to our mind~~
The color in front of me is basically a foggy white~~
Because it is so famous, I definitely have to go and see it.
It is the meeting place of Xu Xian and Bai Niangzi in the Legend of White Snake, which also adds a lot of romance to this long bridge.
When the winter snow starts to fall, the ice and snow on the sunny side of the bridge melt, but the shady side is still covered with residual snow. From a high vantage point, the bridge seems to be broken, forming the famous "Broken Bridge with Residual Snow".

"Broken Bridge with Residual Snow" is one of the ten scenic spots of West Lake. There are many different opinions on how this scene got its name. The one I agree with is that "after the snow clears in winter, the ice and snow on the sunny side of the ancient stone bridge melt, while the shady side is still covered with jade and silver. From the distance of Geling, the bridge and the embankment seem to be broken but not broken, so it got this name." There is a pavilion in the northeast of the Broken Bridge, with a stele of "Broken Bridge with Residual Snow" inside.
The Broken Bridge is best visited at nightfall, and is located on Beishan Street. Sitting by the Broken Bridge and watching the night slowly deepen is a very special experience.
It is the meeting place of Xu Xian and Bai Niangzi in the Legend of White Snake.
How to say.....it was not winter when I went there, so there was only the Broken Bridge~~~
It's a pity that I didn't come here to take pictures when it snowed in Hangzhou in 2008, because my car was stuck in the snow and I couldn't get out.
The bridge is not very long and there is nothing special about it. Perhaps only when it snows in winter can you appreciate the unique scenery of the Broken Bridge covered with snow.
The Broken Bridge is here, the snow is still there...it's not the season yet...
To be honest, I have never been to the Broken Bridge during the day, so I didn't recognize it when I walked to the Broken Bridge. I asked the security guard if this was the Broken Bridge? Hehe! There are a lot of boats on the Broken Bridge, and many people use willow branches to make wreaths on their heads! It's still nice to take a walk
The sky was overcast at that time, and the Broken Bridge only appears broken when it snows. It looks quite ordinary at other times.
The Broken Bridge is the most popular of all the scenic spots in West Lake. The downside is that there are many tourists, which makes it less romantic. But walking on the bridge and looking at West Lake, or taking pictures, is such a pleasant thing.
This view can only be seen when it snows. Go to the lakeside of the ancient site of Zhaoxian Temple opposite. It's boring to walk on the eight dikes. The cement road is passing by. The willows on both sides are fluttering. It's really romantic to meet love here. Then walk into the island area? There are many points to see. The architecture of Yiyun Jilu is very good! Why is it not open? Then Su Xiaoxiao's tomb is at the Xiling Bridge. Well, I don't know whether it is true or not.
I heard that this is the place where White Snake and Xu Xian met. It must be another beautiful sight when it is covered with snow in winter.
Arriving at the Broken Bridge, there were so many people.
To be honest, I feel the scenery of the Broken Bridge is quite ordinary.. Maybe it's the wrong season
Broken Bridge with Residual Snow is a famous scenery on West Lake, which is famous for the bridge deck looming on the lake surface when it snows in winter. It is one of the ten scenic spots of West Lake.
Bai Suzhen and Xu Xian met and got to know each other on the Broken Bridge, returned to the city on the same boat, and borrowed an umbrella to express their love. This legendary story has brought the Broken Bridge a good reputation throughout the country. The Broken Bridge with snow is a rare sight. As the saying goes:
It’s rare to see snow in ten years, and it would be a wasted trip if I didn’t see the Broken Bridge.
When the snow has just stopped, the Broken Bridge is covered in silver. At night, the lights are bright, the Baidi Bridge stretches across the river, and the snowy willows and frost-covered peaches are in full bloom.
The mottled bridge railings and the culvert shining brightly with white snow look like they are broken but not yet broken. This must be the essence of the Broken Bridge.
Waiting for her for a thousand years,
Xueer finally came.
Walk past her,
Smiling all your life.
The Broken Bridge is one of the three wonders of Hangzhou. The popularity of the Broken Bridge is largely due to the popularity of the TV series "The Legend of the White Snake", in which the White Snake and Xu Xian met in the rain and borrowed an umbrella to express their love. Because of this legendary love, the Broken Bridge became famous all over the world and is also the first lover's bridge on the lake.
"Snow on Broken Bridge" refers to the time when the snow has just cleared up. The ice and snow on the sunny side of the bridge have melted, while the shady side of the bridge is still covered with snow. This scene is probably rare to see, as there is not much snow in the south of the Yangtze River, and what little snow there is melts easily, so you have to rely on luck if you want to see it.
To say goodbye to the Broken Bridge, is it appropriate to use Song Linsheng’s "Longing"?
"The breeze is gentle, the willows are swaying, the green mountains are lush and the river is calm, the path is filled with laughter; thinking about the past, looking at the stars, people are leaning on the broken bridge, the clouds are heading west, and the moonlight is intoxicating with tenderness."
I met an old Hangzhou man opposite the Broken Bridge. The old man said that he had lived by the West Lake for more than 60 years. The current Broken Bridge is not the same as the previous one. It was built after the liberation. The reason why the previous Broken Bridge was called Broken Bridge with Residual Snow was because there was a small pavilion on the bridge pier. After snowing in winter, the snow melted in the places where the sun shone, and there was still snow under the eaves where the sun could not reach. From a distance, it looked like a broken bridge, which gave it that artistic conception.
The Broken Bridge now has no pavilion. It is no longer the Broken Bridge of the past...
Go west from the Sixth Park and not far from the lake is the Broken Bridge. There are many different opinions about the origin of the name of the Broken Bridge, but it is probably the most famous bridge in China. After the Broken Bridge is the famous Bai Causeway, where willow trees and peach blossoms are in full bloom. Tourists are walking or sitting, and many young people are riding rented bicycles on it.
There are really, really many people, everyone comes here because of its reputation, and some of the snow on the bridge is trampled and very dirty. But let’s keep the beautiful imagination of the snow on the Broken Bridge, it’s too late now, there won’t be fewer people there.
The Broken Bridge is a great success
But he is part of the West Lake.
The West Lake has beautiful scenery
It’s very cold in Hangzhou today, but it doesn’t affect people’s enthusiasm for enjoying the scenery at all.
As a passer-by, I can’t understand the beauty of the Broken Bridge for the time being, and the high-rise buildings behind the bridge are a bit of an eyesore.
For love, I carefully chose the angles to take the photos twice!
The biggest sight on the Broken Bridge is the huge crowds of people. Every year on National Day and Labor Day, whenever CCTV reports a record high number of tourists, the first shot is always dedicated to the huge crowds of people on the Broken Bridge...
The day we went there was not so crowded, not as many as I expected. The Broken Bridge with Snow is opposite McDonald's and Starbucks, both in a Republican-style building, which is quite interesting.
There are also a lot of people on weekdays. No matter what the scenery is like, the Legend of the New White Snake is always worth a look. There are people performing the Legend of the White Snake in the pavilion next to the Broken Bridge. It is precisely because of this legend that this place is famous, so you still have to come and see it. There are automatic boats next to the Broken Bridge. Boating on the lake is the best way to appreciate West Lake.
Broken Bridge with Residual Snow is a famous scenery on West Lake, which is famous for the bridge deck looming on the lake surface when it snows in winter. It is one of the ten scenic spots of West Lake.
Broken Bridge is located at the east end of Baidi Causeway in West Lake, Hangzhou. It is backed by Baoshishan Mountain and faces Hangzhou City. It is the watershed between Waihu Lake and Beili Lake. Broken Bridge is high and has a wide view. It is the best place to enjoy the snow scenery of West Lake in winter.
Baidi Causeway is 1 km long, starting from Broken Bridge in the east, passing Jindai Bridge and ending at Pinghu Qiuyue. Baidi Causeway stretches across the lake, dividing West Lake into Outer Lake and Inner Lake, and connecting Gushan and Beishan together. Baidi Causeway was originally called Baisha Causeway in the Tang Dynasty, and Gushan Road in the Song Dynasty. In the Ming Dynasty, peach and willow trees were widely planted on the causeway, and it was also called Shijintang. The inner layer of the causeway is weeping willows, and the outer layer is green peaches.
Nothing special, just a lot of people. Maybe it will be different in winter with snow.
The time for the second departure was just right, but because we were not familiar with the route, we arrived at a quarter after seven. The first show had just ended, and we had to wait a long time for the second one. This was an awkward time. It would be boring and time-consuming to continue waiting. Suddenly, we looked up and saw the Broken Bridge dotted with lights. It didn't seem too far away. Why not go first to see the romantic place where White Snake and Xu Xian met, and then come back to see the fountain when the time is almost right. After making this happy decision, we set off towards the Broken Bridge.
It looks not far, but it is not close when you walk. I rushed to the Broken Bridge, took some photos, and walked for a while. Before I knew it, it was almost eight o'clock. If I go back, I will not have time to see the fountain at eight o'clock. I just walk along the Broken Bridge.
