Ningbo Old Bund

宁波老外滩

Ningbo Old Bund was opened as a port in 1844. It is one of the only bunds in China with a century-old history and is the gateway to the ancient city of Ningbo.
The Old Bund still preserves a large number of old European-style buildings that have been converted into bars and restaurants. The Gothic-style Jiangbei Catholic Church is one of Ningbo’s landmarks.
The uniqueness of the Old Bund is that it is not closed, and any citizen can experience their own life in the Old Bund, the Sanjiang Port.
At the same time, the Old Bund is also a bar street. It becomes lively at night and many foreigners like to have leisure gatherings here.

After visiting the Xiao Putuo scenic area, drive directly to the Old Bund.

Ningbo Old Bund, located in Jiangbei District on the north bank of Sanjiangkou, Ningbo, was opened as a port after the First Opium War in 1844, 20 years earlier than Shanghai. Located at the confluence of the Yongjiang River, Fenghua River and Yuyao River, it has been a prosperous port since ancient times.

It is very pleasant to walk around here, take pictures of old buildings, or find a small shop to sit down and have a drink. It is very quiet here during the day, with tourists strolling in the streets in groups of three or two, and you can often see newlyweds taking wedding photos here. At night, the streets are very lively, and the bars are filled with melodious songs, full of charm. The main road is an imitation of "Dange Road", with a Shanghai style, and there are restaurants or shops along the street, which is very petty bourgeoisie.

Ningbo Old Bund is located at Sanjiangkou (the confluence of Yongjiang River, Yuyao River and Fenghua River) in Jiangbei District. It is one of the earliest bunds in modern Chinese history. It was opened in 1844, 20 years earlier than the Bund in Shanghai. As one of the five ports for trade after the signing of the Treaty of Nanjing, Ningbo Old Bund has witnessed the collision and integration of Chinese and Western cultures. It was once a hub for shipping trade, religious communication and foreign culture. Now it has transformed into a cultural and leisure landmark that blends history and modernity. The modern cable-stayed bridge and the old building are in the same frame, forming a strong visual contrast. From the bridge, you can overlook the confluence of the three rivers and the Old Bund.

A large number of European-style buildings from the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China have been preserved along the river, such as the Gothic Catholic Church and the former site of the Romanesque consulate, forming a unique architectural complex that combines Chinese and Western styles. It is even more romantic under the lights at night.

After nightfall, neon lights shine brightly, cruise ships shuttle across the river, and the lights of bars and cafes along the shore are reflected in the water. It is known as the "ceiling" of Ningbo's night view and is a popular shooting location for photography enthusiasts.

Although Ningbo's Old Bund seems to be far less prosperous than Shanghai's Bund, when you take a quiet walk there at night, you will feel a sense of tranquility that is hard to achieve in Shanghai.

It is a great place to cool off in the summer, drink cold beer, look at the night scenery, and chat with a few close friends. It is so pleasant.

It has two completely different styles from the Bund in Shanghai.

Ningbo's Old Bund is a well-known name. It has a longer history than Shanghai's Bund. It is said to have been a famous port in the Tang Dynasty. The port of Ningbo for the Five Ports of Trade is located here. It is located at the confluence of the Yong River, Fenghua River, and Yuyao River. It is now the city center of Ningbo.

We arrived at the riverside in the evening. It was convenient and inexpensive to take a taxi. The driver was very talkative and introduced the attractions and routes. We first went to the old church. The church was built by the French during the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty. It is a typical Gothic building and a landmark of Ningbo. The fountain in front was open, which added a dynamic atmosphere to the photo-taking atmosphere, but there was no reflection.

Move to the riverside, the lights are bright, the buildings are lined up, and the river water is dyed colorful. Two cross-river bridges can be seen within the sight range, one is an arch bridge, and the other is a tension bridge, which looks very majestic. This may be the north bank. There are many shopping malls, restaurants, and bar streets nearby. Some of the decorations are also very distinctive. Enjoy the beautiful scenery, eat, check in and take photos.

Address: Ningbo City, Jiangxia Street, Yongjiang Bridge, Jiangbei District

Transportation: We usually don't drive from the hotel to the scenic spot. You can take Metro Line 1 to Dongmenkou, or take Bus No. 1, 4, 20, 541, etc.

When people mention the Bund, they immediately think of the Bund in Shanghai. But did you know that Ningbo also has a Bund, and it is the "elder" of the Shanghai Bund, because it is 20 years older than the Shanghai Bund! Maybe this is the origin of the "Old Bund". The Old Bund is located at the Sanjiangkou of Ningbo City, where the Yongjiang River, Fenghua River and Yuyao River converge, forming a unique "three rivers and six banks" landscape. This is the starting point of Jianzhen's eastward voyage, and the birthplace of the famous Ningbo Gang. It has been one of the most prosperous ports since the Tang and Song Dynasties, and Ningbo has become a representative city of "prosperity through ports".

Along the riverside, old and new buildings are scattered and lined up one after another. Among them, there are many Western-style buildings, such as the Catholic Church, the British Consulate, and the police station... It feels familiar to the Bund in Pudong, and you can vaguely feel the prosperity of that time. Today, like other "concession" cities, the houses have been transformed into various shops, post offices, teahouses, bookstores, restaurants, and more bars. The Old Bund has transformed from a busy commercial port to a fashionable nightlife street. Beijing has Shichahai, Shanghai has Xintiandi, and Ningbo also has the Old Bund, which has long become a famous landscape in Ningbo. During the day, it is gentle and quiet, low-key and reserved. A few tourists stroll on the street, and many locals regard it as a place for fitness and walking; when night falls, the lights are bright, the neon lights are flashing, the voices are bustling, and it is noisy and lively. People gather here to relax, express their passion, express their emotions, and even vent their depression...

The Old Bund is located at the confluence of the Yong River, Fenghua River and Yuyao River. Today, it is similar to a bar street. However, in the off-season and on rainy days, there are few pedestrians and the business is quiet. There are several old buildings mentioned on the Internet nearby, not far away, so I rode my bicycle to visit them one by one. The so-called Customs Site Museum was not found, or there was no sign. There was no introduction to the other few places, and I could only tell from the appearance that they should have a history of hundreds of years.

Although when people talk about the Bund, they usually think of the Bund in Shanghai first, but in fact, the Old Bund in Ningbo is the earliest Bund in Chinese history.

Sit down, enjoy the breeze, and wait for night to fall.

A casual travel means not making a travel guide. You check the next destination while eating, and when you are ready to go to the next destination, you check the next one. This is a willful travel.

.

The Old Bund was randomly recommended to us. It is located by the Sanjiang River. It feels very similar to the Binjiang Road by the Pearl River in Guangzhou. There are also night cruises on the Sanjiang River. There used to be restaurants and bars along the river, and there are also inner streets with many shops, but they are basically closed during the day (between 16:30 and 17:00 when we arrived). When we left at about 17:00 in the afternoon, there were already many cars queuing to enter the parking lot. I think it must be a different scene here at night!

Night economy, let’s go~

.

We still had to go to the Hill Market, so we waved goodbye ~ See you again if we have the chance!

Ningbo Old Bund was opened earlier than Shanghai Bund. You can go there to stroll around and enjoy the river breeze. It is less crowded and quieter than Shanghai Bund. You can get to Old Bund by taking Subway Line 1 to Dongmenkou Station or taking Subway Line 2 to Bund Bridge Station.

If you have time, you can go and see the night view. Young people can find a bar to have a drink.

By 🌞 |

There are fewer people in the afternoon. The scenery should be good at night.

In the evening, I came to the Old Bund for a walk and to enjoy the breeze. It felt really refreshing!

Not recommended, very awkward bar street... Maybe I didn't get the essence of it.

By Of |

The Old Bund has few old buildings left, so it should be called the New Bund.

By A1 Li Mochou |

It's nice to enjoy the breeze by the river. The Bund is basically a bar street and there are not many people. It's quite comfortable

By Where |

I think this street is great. I really like the architectural style. And, I went here during the day. There were fewer people. It wasn't so noisy. I won't say more. Just look at the pictures. Finally, I ate beef noodles at a noodle shop nearby. It was great! I forgot the name... Awkward. The boss was also very nice.

By Sivandar |

The Old Bund looks two different ways during the day and at night, integrating all the characteristics very well.

By Tamama |

A very unique place, basically suitable for coming at night. The lights plus the style of Sanjiangkou make it great to come here!

By Jingjing |

The "Old Bund" is a bar street. If you want to have a nightlife, you can come here to have fun. There are still a lot of beautiful European-style buildings here. The shops along the street are basically bars and restaurants. The Gothic building Jiangbei Catholic Church next to it is also a good place to go. It is one of the landmarks of Ningbo.

By ykiyo_ |

It is a suitable place for regular residents and shopping. It is full of bars and there are no snacks nearby. The place with more snacks is Gulou, which is full of today's fast food, such as chicken wings wrapped in rice, fried chicken steak, sushi, and other foods that can be found all over the country.

By Lily Xian |

On an October night, with the breeze blowing, I walked in the night view and enjoyed the beautiful scenery with Leroy who loves photography. It was great.

By Water without trace |

It's really nice, especially at night when the neon lights are on, the entire Bund is particularly charming.

By Lazy Cat |

I printed a hand-drawn map on the self-service machine at the Bund intersection. Ningbo Old Bund was built 20 years earlier than Shanghai. Yuyao River, Fenghua River and Yong River meet here. There are not many people here during the day. Many old houses have been converted into bars. There are several street artists singing and playing the piano on the street.

All the bars that were closed during the day were open. Most of the bars on this street are music bars. There are many more people on the street than in the morning. The lights on the buildings along the river and on the bridge are all on, and the prosperous scene is suddenly revealed. I know that there is a Jiangbei Catholic Church nearby, so I took a photo. On the way back to the hotel, I saw people flying kites. Nowadays, kites are so tall and magnificent, and they are equipped with colorful lights that keep changing colors, which is eye-catching.

Centrally located

Transportation: Very convenient, we used a shared electric car to go

I have heard that Ningbo is known as the Little Shanghai. My previous impression of Ningbo was that it is one of the five sub-provincial cities in China.

Seeing it today, it is indeed not as famous as it used to be. Although the Old Bund is not as prosperous and dazzling as the Shanghai Bund, it also has its own unique literature and beauty. It is built along the river and the Ningbo Art Museum is located in it. Every house along the road is a good view and many models are shooting here.

By The Lone Ranger: The Happy Fairy |

Ningbo Old Bund, located in the center of Ningbo, is located at the confluence of the Yongjiang River, Fenghua River and Yuyao River, and is adjacent to the famous Sanjiangkou of Ningbo. It has been one of the most prosperous ports since the Tang and Song Dynasties, and was once the earliest port area opened to foreign countries among the "Five Ports for Trade". It was opened in 1844, 20 years earlier than the Bund in Shanghai. Although it has undergone reconstruction, it has basically maintained the style of the original foreign market. Here, you can see various styles of buildings, mainly European style, which gives you the illusion of being in the Bund in Shanghai. Although it is not as big as the Bund in Shanghai, it is far less famous. But it is still worth a visit. There are art galleries, churches and other relics and sites in Ningbo. Whether it is to understand culture or take pictures, it is a good choice, but it is better to come here at night. As we all know, Ningbo is not a city with a rich nightlife. This is one of the few places in Ningbo where there is life. The bar street and restaurants from all over the world here not only attract young people in Ningbo who love bustle and nightlife, but also many foreigners. It is one of the few places in Ningbo where foreigners are concentrated. In addition, you can see the night view of Ningbo city center when you come to the riverside of the Old Bund at night. You can also enjoy the sea breeze and see the fountain. It is a good place to relax, meet and have a romantic encounter. If it is on some special holidays, this is one of the few places in Ningbo where you can really have fun.

The Old Bund, located at the junction of the Yong River, Yuyao River and Fenghua River, was opened as a port in 1844, more than 100 years ago. It is called the "Old Bund" because it was 20 years earlier than the Bund in Shanghai.

Although you can still see some European-style buildings from that time, most of them no longer exist. Instead, they are replaced by typical modern commercial streets with bars, restaurants, hotels and various shops, which are no different from the commercial areas of ordinary cities.

But as Ningbo's "urban living room", the Old Bund is undoubtedly the most literary and artistic place in Ningbo, without a doubt.

Walk south along the Old Bund, cross the road under the Yongjiang Bridge, and you will see Jiangbei Catholic Church.

Ningbo Catholic Church is a typical Roman Gothic building with a history of more than 140 years. A fire hit this ancient church in 2014. Fortunately, it was restored afterwards and it can be said that it has been restored to its original state.

Although I am not religious, I am not immune to such buildings.

Everyone who comes to Ningbo will not miss the Old Bund. The Old Bund is located at the mouth of Sanjiang River. The light show of the Bund Bridge, Yongjiang Bridge, Xinjiang Bridge and riverside buildings on the Sanjiang River will look very beautiful at night. There are many bars next to the Old Bund, and this time it happened to be the World Cup, and the whole Old Bund was full of the flavor of the World Cup. I found a seat to sit down, drink a drink and watch the game, and there was a cool breeze, which was quite comfortable.

(Overall, the wind in Ningbo is quite strong. Even though it is summer, I actually got goose bumps at the Old Bund at night, hahahaha)

The Old Bund is probably the most fashionable and lively leisure and entertainment landmark in Ningbo.

It is said that the history of Ningbo Old Bund is older than that of Shanghai Bund, so it is named "Old". However, compared with Shanghai Bund, Ningbo Old Bund seems to be less famous. Compared with the grandeur of Shanghai Bund's "World Architecture Expo", Ningbo Old Bund also has many old Western-style buildings, but the scale of the buildings is smaller.

In addition, the leisure function of Ningbo Old Bund is also different from that of Shanghai Bund. The riverside here is full of old Western-style buildings. When the landscape lights on both sides of Yongjiang River are turned on at night, it is very pleasant to stroll here; the area inside to Renmin Road is now a bar street. It is relatively quiet during the day and very lively at night. It can be said to be the first choice for nightlife in Ningbo.

By Curious Cat Zhao Zhao |

The moment the lights come on is quite stunning. Forget about the bar street and the like. It’s nice to just lie on the railing and relax and daydream.

Because it is located at the confluence of three rivers, the buildings light up the same pattern at the same time, and the 360-degree light reflecting each other is also unique.

By Winter Bear |

It was a rainstorm when I went there, and it was foggy and scary. The pedestrian street next to the Bund is very unique, but I didn't have a good time because I was short on time. It was still a bit scary after a heavy rain.

By Tian Changjun |

The night view is nice. Not bad, not bad, not bad, not bad.

By Caitlin |

Actually, it is a bar street. In the past, Ningbo Port was a big port. Of course, it is very fashionable due to the influence of Western culture. There are quiet bars and noisy bars. It is nice to have a cocktail and feel it. However, maybe I am a hotel major and can mix drinks myself, so I dislike the drinks mixed in the bar. They are not very tasty. However, the atmosphere is still good.

There is also a Catholic church in the Old Bund. Although it is not as grand as Tianyi Square, it has an ancient atmosphere. It is still good.

By jyun2001 |

We went early and all the bars on the Bund were still closed.

This Zhu's residence was built in 1935 by Zhu Xuchang, a well-known businessman in the early days of the Ningbo Gang. It is built along the street and has a unique Western style. The arc-shaped facade facing the street is three stories high and imitates the style of an ancient Greek temple. The roof is sloping, and there is a reinforced concrete handrail parapet at the end of the eaves. There are antique Roman Corinthian columns between the doors and windows.

This place is more about bars than sightseeing.

Near Tianyi Square, first go up the Yongjiang Bridge to look down for a better view. There are street performers playing guitar by the river, with good music and voice. Entering the old street, there are bars everywhere. There are not many people on weekends, but each one plays strong rhythmic music, and the lights are flickering or drifting, making people want to go in and have a good drink. It is suitable for nightlife.

After getting off the plane at 8 o'clock, I checked in and immediately rode my bike to the Old Bund, which was the first stop of my trip.

It is located in the city center and has actually become a bar street in Ningbo.

You can see foreigners and beautiful singers performing there.

The architecture is very Republican-style, and the cathedral made me feel like I had traveled back to the Middle Ages in Western Europe.

I took pictures of a few bars but ultimately didn’t go in because I was traveling on a budget after all.

If I could go there during the day, maybe there would be a surprise, but unfortunately I don’t have time.

Ningbo Old Bund is even older than Shanghai Bund. You must visit it when you go to Ningbo. It is very beautiful, especially the night view. I went there in February. There were basically no tourists, so you can enjoy the beautiful scenery freely. Take the subway to the Bund Bridge Station, and then walk about 5 minutes according to Baidu Maps.

I'm used to the Bund in Shanghai, so when I went to Ningbo to see the Old Bund, I didn't feel as surprised. That street is a bar street, and there were many people taking wedding photos during the day. The art gallery was not open when I went there, so I just looked at the river for a while and then left.

When we talk about the Bund, the first thing that comes to mind is definitely the Bund in Shanghai. After coming to Ningbo, we learned that the Old Bund, located at the confluence of the Yong River, Fenghua River and Yuyao River, in the center of Ningbo, was opened as a port in 1844. It was the earliest port opened to foreign countries among the "Five Ports Open to Trade", 20 years earlier than the Bund in Shanghai. Therefore, the Old Bund in Ningbo is the earliest Bund in Chinese history. After reconstruction, the Old Bund basically maintains the style of the year, and European-style buildings can be seen everywhere.

The night view of the Old Bund is pretty good. The light show on the other side is OK. I am not too interested in the bar street on the shore, so it feels just average. There is nothing special.

By David Sun |

The night view of the Old Bund is nice, and there is a bar street next to it, which is very romantic. You can come here for a walk when you have nothing to do.

The Bund is a commercial place with bars everywhere. I really don't recommend it. It's far worse than the Bund in Shanghai and has no local characteristics. There was no one there because of the typhoon. It's okay to stroll around, but it's not worth it as a tourist attraction.

By Falling grapefruit |

At this time, the old Bund was under repair, and the riverside trail all the way to the Catholic Church was under repair, so the scenery was greatly reduced. Although there were many bars and many resident singers, I always felt that there were not many characteristics, probably because bars exist in various places. So I only took a photo of the Catholic Church and left in a hurry.

The Bund, I have been there many times when I was interning in Shanghai, but that was in Shanghai. After I came to Ningbo, I saw relevant guides on China-TravelNote and learned that the old Bund in Ningbo was actually 20 years earlier than that in Shanghai. Perhaps due to the fame of Shanghai, not many people seem to know about this place in Ningbo.

I walked there last night. Although the weather was a bit hot and humid, I was still attracted by its colorful night view. It was a pity that I didn't walk to the Bund and returned due to time constraints.

However, I rode my little white bike there this morning and to be honest, it seemed a little worse than I expected. Maybe it's because I pay more attention to the classical atmosphere and am not interested in the modern New Bund.

It is very similar to the old dock in Shanghai. The surprising thing is that there are all kinds of small bars along the street, most of which have resident singers at night. You can choose one you like and sit down for a drink!

When I went there in the evening, the sun was still bright. The quiet riverside streets and the turbid Yongjiang River gave me the first impression that it was far different from the Bund in Shanghai. As night fell, it gradually revealed its prosperity and the tourists were even more numerous. Under the warm-colored lights, any photo was a happy one. The cool sea breeze gave people a comfortable enjoyment at the end of May. Occasionally, I would meet photography enthusiasts with models for outdoor shooting. The old Bund at night is still worth a visit.

I like the old Bund where there are not many people and I can feel the river breeze and listen to music. The night view is really beautiful.

The Bund in Ningbo is certainly not comparable to that in Shanghai, but it is still comfortable to walk along the river and enjoy the night view.
