Shipu Fishing Port Ancient Town

石浦渔港古城

With a history of over 600 years, it is built along the mountain and faces the sea. It is known as "the city is on the harbor and the mountain is in the city".
One end is connected to the fishing port, and the other end is hidden deep in the mountain valley. The city wall is built with the undulating mountain terrain, the city gate is constructed according to the shape, and the old houses are built in steps, winding and twisting.
The main feature of the majestic appearance of Shipu Ancient City, a “key coastal defense town”, is its high position and control over the harbor.
You can visit special venues dedicated to fishing culture, merchant culture, and coastal defense culture, weave fish nets, make fishing lanterns, and experience the life of a fisherman.

We went there during the Spring Festival holiday, originally planning a day trip to Xiangshan Film and Television City. It was incredibly crowded, and we couldn't even park our car. We ended up heading to the Fishing Port Ancient Town instead, hoping it would be a memorable experience. 😞 What was even more frustrating was that this ancient street opened directly onto the main road. My family of three ended up spending 180 yuan, which was a complete waste! While there are seven or eight small attractions that require entrance fees, the most worthwhile attraction, the Wengcheng (Chinese city wall), was completely unmanned. So, my advice to all you little bees out there: don't buy the entrance fee; it's not worth it.

By Hu Pang |

There are few people and the commercial atmosphere is not strong, which is suitable for taking photos with friends.

By Overseas shopping e-tribe |

The whole place is quite small, built on the hillside, with shops along the mountain road, which is a hillside version of the ancient town. It is recommended to cancel the entrance fee, it is really not worth it to spend money.

By Happy Hideaway |

It's a very nice place, with fishing ports, islands, ancient cities and different types of attractions to meet the needs of tourists with different needs.

By Happy Hideaway |

I prefer ancient cities with stories and maritime culture, ancient cities built on the mountains, and ancient cities related to the sea. Planting flowers and plants in shells is a great way to experience it!

By Happy Hideaway |

Mainland tourists find the sight of fishing boats novel, and hotel prices double on weekends. Market economics are clearly evident at the coast. Seafood is generally cheaper and fresher if you go after the catch.

By China-TravelNote users |

Not worth it, it's the worst view I've ever been to, the ticket is 60, there is no half-day tour

By Gege V |

It's quite comfortable to blow the sea breeze at night.

By Back |

Some Ming and Qing Dynasty houses have been preserved, and there are many small displays that require you to slowly experience. Unlike the crowded Jiangnan ancient town during holidays, this place is relatively empty, and there are many stories on one street.

By Stupid MeeMee |

The streets of the ancient city are still worth exploring, as it's still inhabited. Because it's close to the fishing port, the streets are lined with open-air seafood stalls, brightly lit and bustling with people. Our nighttime stroll, guided by lanterns, was a truly unique experience.

By Sky Bow |

This is an ancient town that still retains its pristine ecology. Naturally, there are no tourists during the off-season. Only the glossy stone pavement, wet from rain, tells its little-known story.

Since it is an ancient fishing port, even the toys sold here have a hint of the sea. Toys shaped like crabs, fish and shrimps fill the shops on both sides of the ancient street.

Although we cannot see the sea here, the roadside decorations and the "souvenirs" sold in the small shops remind us all the time of the purpose of our trip, that we are in Xiangshan, a place rich in seafood.

By Gao Weiwen |

I went there last weekend, mainly to eat some seafood, and then went to Shipu Vegetable Market to bring some seafood back. The old street can be walked through from the side alleys without tickets. It takes an hour to walk all the way. I feel it is okay because there is no ticket.

By Maomao |

The ancient city of Shipu Fishing Port has been renovated. When I went to Shipu in the late 1980s, the ancient city was in a dilapidated state, with many houses crumbling...

Although it has been well renovated, it is still a bit lost due to excessive commercial development. The only thing that remains unchanged in the ancient city is the undulating terrain along the hillside, which is still as beautiful as before.

By Long Zhen's mother |

I went there at night and there was no entrance fee. The lighting effects of the ancient city were also great. As I went up the stairs, there were small shops selling seafood on both sides. They were quite unique and the scenery was also good. It is a highly recommended place.

By Wei |

If you go at night, you don’t need a ticket.

Very nice old street, the buildings are very tasteful

The night view is beautiful

Grass jelly is delicious 😏

The round trip takes only 30 minutes

By Small bridge, flowing water and people's homes |

It's a place with a strong fishing port atmosphere. It's worth spending half a day to a day to visit and take pictures.

By ADREAM |

I arrived in Xiangshan just in time for the Fishing Festival, a rare opportunity, so I wanted to see the show. But when I got there, I learned it was for people of status. So I decided to take a boat tour around the harbor. The staff kept saying they didn't know what time it would start, so we waited and waited. We waited for two hours in the scorching heat. When the ticket window finally opened, they said they wouldn't sell tickets to just two of us, but only to groups of ten. I asked if we could wait until we had enough people, but they said no. I was so stunned I headed home. I'm really not familiar with this place. It would have been better to go to the beach and see what it was like instead of just watching the people.

By Love habit 🌸 |

I mainly went to Xiangshan Beach! There were relatively few people and the sea water was very clean!

By Billy Peng |

There weren't many people there. It was typhoon season when we went there, so people were not allowed to go out to sea. We saw many fishing boats docked in the harbor.

By Fresh Seven |

The food street next to it leads directly to the ancient city... I wasted 60 yuan per person and there was nothing inside... It's really rubbish. I don't know what I saw... Bad review! It's really rubbish

By Dream Breeze |

The ancient town is relatively well-preserved and many residents still live in it. To be honest, the 60 yuan ticket is a bit expensive, but you don't need to buy a ticket before 8 am and after 5 pm.

By Luke |

A must-go place for seafood. The sea breeze is gentle and the food is delicious.

By swjtu143007 |

Ningbo South Bus Station is right next to Ningbo Railway Station. Buses run frequently to Shipu, and the journey takes about an hour and a half. From there, it's a ten-minute bus ride to the ancient town. Shipu Ancient Town is a fishing port. Weekend accommodations can be two or three times more expensive, and meals are also more expensive. The entrance fee to the ancient town is 60 yuan. Previously, you could access the ancient town through the surrounding paths, but this time, all the paths were guarded by elderly men and women, leaving no room for entry. Finally, whether to stay in Shipu Town or the ancient town itself is a matter of personal preference. Shipu Town has plenty of supermarkets and seafood restaurants. For seafood, head to the intersection of Longquan Road and Nanping Road, where it's mostly populated by locals, so you won't be ripped off. While the ancient town offers a strong sea breeze, dining options are limited, and prices are, as you know, typical for tourist areas. However, the ancient town is very close to Shipu Town, less than two kilometers apart, and a taxi ride costs only a few yuan.

By Andy.Bohu.Tang |

Xiangshan Shipu Fishing Port is now also used as a pier, which gives it a very good local feel.

By Tan |

You can go in and visit at any time, but you can't go in to see some of the small attractions inside. There are only ship models and the like. It's not interesting! It's not as fun as Tongli in Suzhou!

By Yushan Aboriginal people |

The stone-paved street is lined with small jewelry shops and a city wall with a sculpture of Qi Jiguang. You need to pay extra to enter the historical site.

By Bird |

Experience the history and culture of Yujia, stroll around the streets and take photos, enjoy the night view in the evening, and relax in the sea breeze.

By swallow |

Shipu Ancient City does not charge admission after 5 pm. Apart from the exhibition, there is nothing else to see. There are still many shops open. Snowflake jelly is a local specialty. It is recommended that you choose live seafood yourself at the Shipu Vegetable Market. There are two exits from the ancient city.

By Heshan wild boar |

During the fishing moratorium, the harbor is filled with listless fishing boats. Forget fishing, even hearing a ship's horn is a pipe dream.

By Sophie |

The street at Shipu Fishing Port isn't very long; if you're quick, you can walk back and forth in an hour. The main entrance to Shipu Fishing Port currently only has one main street, but a second phase of renovations is underway, which should improve things. With just one street, the 60 yuan ticket price seems a bit meager. Shortly after entering, you'll see the stage. Performances are scheduled at the top of the hour, and they're decent and genuine. The only problem is that the crowds aren't very cooperative, haha. I strongly recommend adding fans to the seating areas; it's too hot.

By Job's tears |

Fishing boats are parked densely and neatly at the dock. Red flags are flying, and the newly pink boats are ready to go fishing on August 1st. Of course, they need to be dressed up beautifully, perfect for Instagram-worthy posts. Hehe! I was so excited to see the pink boats, I immediately ran to the dock to ask if they were going to Yushan Island. They said no, they're not sailing! Salute!

By Ordinary life |

Due to camera issues, the images are no longer in the same place.

But the place is good, close to the sea, there are many boats

By The 1001st little dream |

There are a lot of food around the fishing port, and many fishing boats are parked there. It is very spectacular and very quiet at night. It is a very comfortable place.

By Demon |

I recommend going there in the morning. It's not worth the 60 yuan ticket. You don't need a ticket before 7:30, just go in and have a look.

By A leaf left in the cold |

I visited Shipu Ancient Town once before, back in 2017. What impressed me most were the winding hillside dwellings and the abundance of delicious local delicacies. The streets are now lined with shops, mostly selling local seafood specialties, as well as some shellfish crafts. The beauty of this ancient fishing port lies beyond its historical roots, and beyond its Shipu roots.

By A leaf left in the cold |

The most impressive thing about this place is the winding houses built along the mountainside and the rich variety of delicious snacks. It takes about 20 minutes to drive from Banbianshan to Shipu Fishing Port Ancient Town. There is a parking lot nearby, which is very convenient.

By A red cloud |

The seafood was great, but July was a fishing moratorium, so I didn't get to eat enough.

By Catulina |

Worst beach trip ever!! First, the service was abysmal!! They made you pay to wash your feet, but there wasn't even a drop of water in the bathroom. That's fine, they even charged me for a one-year-old baby's bath. I told them they were so dark, and he yelled at me for having a dark face! There was no hot water in the bathroom! They said it was only available in the women's bathroom. When I got there, they said there was only one faucet with hot water, and once I got there, there was only one for washing mops! Don't go with babies! Let's talk about the scenery. You call this the sea?! I got there at 2 a.m., and it was all mud! They said we had to wait until high tide at 4 a.m., but I waited until 5:30 a.m. for the water to come up a little bit. I let my child splash around a bit and drink a few mouthfuls of muddy soup, then I left immediately! Don't come here! You'll regret it! The water was so filthy I didn't even want to take out my phone.

By I have a low IQ |

It was sparsely populated and about to rain when I went there. Also, the tickets were expensive and I felt there was nothing fun to do inside. It was all commercial streets. It was not worth driving all the way here.

By People on the road |

An ancient town, nestled against a mountainside and facing the sea, is a place steeped in history, steeped in a rich fishing culture and steeped in a remarkable legacy of coastal defense. Walking along the mossy stone pavement, along the winding paths, enjoying the morning tranquility and breathing in the scent of the sea, I felt as if I had traveled through time and space, becoming part of this small town.

By Kai |

There is no entrance fee if you go after 5pm. There are few tourists in the ancient city. Several old streets are suitable for strolling, taking photos and checking in.

By Kai |

Opposite the fishing port and the ancient city is the port. There are many fishing boats. Children who have rarely seen fishing boats can walk along the dock and take a look.

By Maomao |

Arriving at Shipu Fishing Port, one's first impression should be a bustling scene: fishing boats crisscrossing the harbor, boats docked at the pier awaiting unloading, and merchants waiting on the shore to collect their catch. But amidst this bustle, I discovered a sense of tranquility. In October, the harbor's bays were densely packed with motorboats, their masts a forest. Seafood stalls lined the harbor's main road, their savory aromas tangy with salty flavor, their cries piercing the ears, and their knives sharpened to greet passersby. The seafood, as it turned out, lived up to its reputation: fresh and reasonably priced.

By Scorpio |

The ancient city is small, nestled against the hillside. Many old houses still exist, and residents still live there. Many of the houses offer access to the back of the building through the second floor, which is quite interesting. There's an entrance fee, but there are a few uninteresting small exhibition halls to visit, which doesn't fully explore the city's history. If you don't have a ticket, you can enter through the alleyway at the back. It's a worthwhile attraction.

By Passing through my whole China |

It was evening, the ancient city gates wide open, and the crowds were largely gone, leaving the atmosphere tranquil and quaint. No entrance fee was required, and I was even more delighted to be free of the crowds. I could walk the familiar streets of the city walls, savoring the rich history of this city, steeped in over 600 years of merchant activity, and pondering the customs and traditions of the sea-based economy and fishing since its founding in the Ming and Qing dynasties. China is home to many fishing ports, but Shipu's rich history, quality, and rich cultural heritage are truly rare.

When visiting Xiangshan, you certainly can’t miss the ancient city of Shipu Fishing Port.

It seems that every place has an ancient town or ancient street of its own. After seeing so many, the expectations are not very high.

However, this ancient city is different from the ancient towns I have seen before. Its characteristics lie in its location close to the mountains and the sea, and its unique fishing folk culture.

It is said that the fishing harbor is particularly spectacular during the fishing festival. When we went there that day, we saw a completely different scene: a layer of fog floating on the sea, like a fairyland.

To enter the ancient street, you need to buy a ticket, which is a bit expensive. In addition to walking from the beginning to the end of the ancient street, there are also more than ten small attractions inside.

The ancient streets are all similar, but the snacks and things sold here are different. Even the flower pots at the entrance are made of shells.

As for the dozen or so small attractions, there are money houses, silk shops, China Button Museum, etc.

Oh, by the way, Shipu is also the filming location of China’s first sound film, Fisherman’s Song.

There is also a statue of Nie Er in the square, but it is said to be a beautiful mistake. I won’t go into details.

The ancient city is well built and has a sense of history. The things are good and cheap. The tour guide is very good.

By E |

It was a tourism festival that day and the tickets were very cheap, only about 10 yuan. There was a tour guide explaining along the way, talking about the life of the fishermen here, fishing, and the Asian Flying Man. This is the hometown of the Asian Flying Man. You can also open clams, 50 yuan each is quite a good deal. There are about 20 pearls in one. Shipu Ancient City has a defensive layout to prevent Japanese pirates at the time, and it also has a firewall design, with complete functions.

We set off from Ningbo at 9 am and arrived around 12 pm.

After lunch, we made an appointment to go fishing at sea at 2:30 pm. Since it was May, which was a fishing ban period, we only caught a symbolic amount to eat in the evening.

However, this was the first time I came into close contact with a warship.

Moreover, the fishing boat was obviously used for tourism, and there was even a mahjong table on it.

Overall feeling is good.

By kristinfay |

The place is small and can be said to be very commercial, full of various shops, and the scenery is also average.

By Perfect Mori Fans |

What's so fun for the locals?

By You You Plum and Pomelo |

It's just a little feeling. Fortunately, I didn't spend 60 yuan. I accidentally discovered a small road leading directly to the ancient city.

By Wooden Bird Homestay |

A gentle sea breeze blew across the water. I found a fishing boat by the sea and sat leisurely, experiencing the joy of the fishermen out at sea. It was mid-spring, and cherry blossoms bloomed along the shores of Shipu Harbor in Xiangshan, Ningbo, while fishermen sang songs in the evening. At the dock, hardworking fishermen busied themselves loading catches and restocking supplies. The sea shimmered in the setting sun, and seagulls occasionally soared, their wings gleaming before swiftly fading away. In the evening, carrying a large bag of freshly caught seafood, my beloved wife strolled by, and my children skipped along in front. Such a weekend was truly blissful.

By It's rare to be confused |

If you don't want to see the smaller attractions in the old city and just want to see the street view, don't buy a ticket! Look at the map and walk along the alleys on Renmin Road to get to the old city!

This attraction is suspected of forcing people to buy tickets!

By 59697 |

Shipu Ancient Town requires a ticket to enter. The town is relatively small, with many old houses preserved. The streets wind up the steps, and stalls selling Xiangshan seafood and Ningbo specialties are lined on both sides of the road at reasonable prices. Several exhibition halls are available along the old streets, showcasing the history of the ancient town and the life of the fishing village through display boards and real objects.

By 🔆 Ninghai Xizi International Jiuzhentang  |

If you are a tour group, you can come and have a look. There is no need to take a special bus. It will take only a few minutes to leave. You can enter without a ticket. We spent 55 yuan per person (Meituan price). It is better to go to Nantang Old Street in Ningbo, which is free.

By Tiger |

Shipu Fishing Port is a century-old fishing village. Every year, China's Fishing Festival is held at Shipu Fishing Port, where sacrifices are offered to the sea and gods. The lantern festival at night is very lively. Local people gather on the road of the fishing port, and the scene of the whole city celebrating is spectacular!

By China-TravelNote users |

We went there in the afternoon just as the sun was about to set, mainly to find food. The scenery of the fishing port along the way was quite special, with the sea breeze carrying the salty taste of seafood as we watched the sunset. Afterwards, we went to a seafood restaurant, which was generally good, but the prices were a bit high because it was the third day of the Lunar New Year. We have an appointment to go fishing tomorrow, so I hope the weather is good.

By Ian Leung |

The sunrise viewed from the hotel towards the fishing port is the best.

By Jenshanns |

The scenery is pretty good, very Hong Kong-style, but the place is a bit small, the ticket price is acceptable

By Laohei Photo Album |

In the misty drizzle, I walked around here in a hurry. Time is short and I don't know much, so I'll give it three stars first.

By Meet a love |

When we arrived at Shipu Fishing Port, I was stunned by the abundance of lively fish and shrimp filling the boats. I had no idea it was one of China's four largest fishing ports. I was just amazed at how I woke up at the beach.

By Footprints in the Great Forest |

We drove there by ourselves, the air was very fishy and it was the off-season, but the seafood tasted okay. Don't fantasize about how beautiful the sea is, the water along the coast of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai is very yellow!

By China-TravelNote users |

These fishing boats can fish as far as the South China Sea and the Taiwan Strait, and the national flag is a symbol of the country. In recent years, during the fishing moratorium, the state has subsidized tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of yuan for each boat, so fishermen can live a prosperous and healthy life even if they don't go out to sea. Therefore, the fishing license of a large boat can be sold for 1.5 million yuan, and the license of a small boat can be sold for 500,000 to 600,000 yuan. The hardships of a broken boat and a net in the early years have become history. Of course, this is just idle talk. The driver also told us that the busiest time of Shipu Fishing Port is the Fishing Festival in mid-September every year. On the day of the Fishing Festival, the originally static sea surface with masts standing in rows and thousands of boats anchored instantly became a lively scene of roaring machines, long whistles, and thousands of boats competing. At the farewell pier, there were crowds of people, music and drums, fireworks, and firecrackers; in the joyful fishing village, thousands of households hung fishing lanterns, and thousands of boats competed to hold ceremonies; cultural evenings, folk performances, tourism promotion, and product exhibitions formed a beautiful sea market picture. It's a pity that we arrived more than a month late and missed this grand scene.

By Heaven@Hell |

The seafood is very good and fresh, but a little too salty. The hairtail and crab are good.

By Miyuan |

Every time when going out to sea, Shipu Fishing Port is full of sails ready to set sail, and fishermen are making final preparations for sailing.

By Floating Cloud Wanderer |

Compared with the busy and chaotic Shenjiamen Fishing Port, Shipu Fishing Port seems a bit deserted.

By axlzhao |

During the National Day holiday in 2017, I drove from Ningbo. The sea water was yellow, but the fishing village felt very simple and authentic.

By Yang Xueqing |

There is a small path that allows you to enter without spending any money, because the 50 yuan ticket is really not worth it. It is free to enter the ancient city at night, so if you want to play in the ancient city without spending any money, just go and explore the way. The locals will tell you. They are very simple people, but I can hardly understand their dialect.

By Listen |

You can enter for free at night. This kind of ancient city is actually found in almost every tourist city, so paying to enter is pointless. The buildings inside are all renovated, and the commercial atmosphere is too strong. You could even shoot a horror movie here. I always feel like something is going to come out of the doorway below.

By I have fish here. |

Shipu Ancient Town is quite interesting. It can be regarded as an old street. There are also several small attractions and museums in the old street. Entrance fees are required. I think it is interesting because it feels like a mountain. It is not very flat and you have to climb up and down. There are also performances by local residents, which are free to watch. The shell products are very beautiful. My friend and I bought several handmade necklaces and earrings. There are also many snacks, some plastic-wrapped fish and the like, which are all good. You can spend a whole morning shopping there.

By Eggplant yellow |

It has a bit of an old street feel, but the place is very small. The 60 yuan ticket is not worth it, so it is okay to go in and take a quick look after 6 pm when the ticket is free.

By H3 |

There is no entrance fee if you go there at 5pm. After walking around, I found that the biggest feature of the ancient city is the potted plants.

I didn't go around carefully, just took a quick look, it was pretty good
