West Lake is so big, but every time I come here, I am just a passing visitor, so I have to make some choices. This time, I got off the subway and took the bus around West Lake to Su Causeway. Because of limited time, I only walked along two bridges along Su Causeway and looked at the scenery along the lake. Unfortunately, it was cloudy and I couldn’t see the Leifeng Sunset. In January, there were only the remaining lotus leaves beside Su Causeway. However, "staying to listen to the sound of rain" is also another kind of elegance. Mr. Dongpo would probably laugh at me for being so tolerant. People with a more broad mind should have scenery everywhere in life.

"Su Causeway in Spring Dawn" is the first of the ten scenic spots of West Lake. In memory of Su Dongpo's contribution to the management of West Lake, the people of Hangzhou named it "Su Causeway", also known as "Sugong Causeway". It is the only passage connecting the north and south banks across the lake. The embankment has beautiful scenery, surrounded by mountains and rivers, and there are six single-hole semicircular stone arch bridges built in the Northern Song Dynasty, from south to north, they are Yingbo, Suolan, Wangshan, Yadi, Dong (Shu) Pu, and Kuahong.

There were many tourists on the Su Causeway, especially the pier, which was bustling with people, including local residents and tourists from other places. We took pictures of the beautiful scenery while walking, and finally we couldn't walk anymore, so we bought tickets and took a battery car to continue to enjoy the clear water and blue sky. The Su Causeway is really long, and the scenery along the way is picturesque. It felt like it took a long time to reach the destination!

Su Causeway starts from the foot of Nanping Mountain in the south and ends at the foot of Qixia Mountain in the north, with a total length of nearly three kilometers. The long causeway lies on the waves, connecting the South Mountain and the North Mountain, adding a charming landscape to the West Lake. In the Southern Song Dynasty, Su Causeway Spring Dawn was listed as the first of the ten scenic spots of West Lake, which shows that it has been deeply loved by people since ancient times. In the Imperial Monument Pavilion south of the Wangshan Bridge on Su Causeway, there is an inscription of "Su Causeway Spring Dawn" written by Emperor Kangxi. Peach and willow trees are planted on both sides of Su Causeway, and the scenery varies in different seasons. Every March, the willow trees are covered with smoke, shading the lake, which is full of fun. There is a poem to prove it: the smoke from the trees is surrounded by the sand of the embankment, and the pavilions are half covered by the hazy. Until now, Su Causeway Spring Dawn is still the first of the ten scenic spots of West Lake.

In the Southern Song Dynasty, Su Causeway in Spring Dawn was listed as the first of the ten scenic spots of West Lake. In the Yuan Dynasty, it was called "Six Bridges and Smoky Willows" and listed as one of the ten scenic spots of Qiantang. There is an inscription of Emperor Qianlong on the stone tablet in this imperial stele pavilion.

I have a deep impression of Su Causeway, not only because it is named after Dongpo Jushi, but also because of the line in the Taiping lyrics "Legend of the White Snake" "In spring, you can visit Su Causeway to see the red peach blossoms and green willows, and in summer, you can enjoy the lotus flowers that fill the pond." I have heard it so many times that I want to go to the real Su Causeway to see it.

From Yuewang Temple to Leifeng Pagoda along the Su Causeway, the trees are green and the scenery is pleasant. It is a good place for sightseeing and walking. Fortunately, I also met a very cute kitten on the Su Causeway. I touched its head and neck with my hands, and it did not resist. It was very docile to people.

Su Causeway in Spring Dawn. Located in the western waters of West Lake, about 500 meters west of the west bank of the lake, covering an area of ​​about 9.66 hectares. In the fifth year of Yuanyou in the Northern Song Dynasty (1090), the famous scholar Su Shi used the lake mud dug out when dredging the West Lake to build a long causeway running from north to south. There are six bridges on the causeway, named Yingbo Bridge, Suolan Bridge, Wangshan Bridge, Yadi Bridge, Dongpu Bridge and Kuahong Bridge from south to north. In memory of Su Shi, later generations named this causeway "Su Causeway". Su Causeway is the only channel connecting the north and south banks across the lake, crossing the entire waters of West Lake. Therefore, Su Causeway has the most complete visual range and is the best place to enjoy the whole lake landscape. Stop at the Imperial Monument Pavilion south of Yadi Bridge, and you can see the beautiful scenery of the lake and mountains as if it is a picture. It's a pity that people can't take pictures of the whole scenery.

Yachts are traveling back and forth between the Outer West Lake and the Inner West Lake. The quietest place on the West Lake is Yanggong Causeway, while Su Causeway and Bai Causeway are packed with people!

Su Causeway is much farther than Bai Causeway. There are fewer people in the section far away from the entrance and exit. There are few cruise ships on the right side of the lake. The water is particularly clear and calm. It is worth walking and taking a car.

It's really far, and the Su Causeway is too long. We passed six bridges and were very tired along the way. Fortunately, there were food stalls along the way so we could replenish our energy. The fried rice noodles and grilled sausages were delicious. By the way, we met a little squirrel on the way.

Hangzhou West Lake has beautiful scenery for two days

The air is fresh and there are beautiful scenery on both sides. You can see the brightly lit Leifeng Pagoda at night and the twinkling Xiaoyingzhou Island.

Anyway, it's all cement roads. No one is seen on the Su Causeway. I don't know if it will be more beautiful in the spring dawn. Anyway, it's a summer evening. The Su Causeway is green along the way. It's very comfortable to walk. There are many people jogging and fitness. There are many squirrels that I occasionally encounter.

Su Causeway Chunxiao, commonly known as Sugong Causeway, is a tree-lined embankment that runs through the north and south scenic areas of West Lake. It is the embankment built by Su Dongpo, who mobilized 200,000 local people to remove water hyacinths and dredge lakes and harbors when he was an official in Hangzhou. Later generations named it "Su Causeway" to commemorate Su Dongpo's achievements in managing West Lake. The embankment is 2.8 kilometers long. Chunxiao is not an artistic conception. The embankment here really looks like this.

Peach and willow trees are planted on both sides, as well as crabapple, hibiscus, wisteria and other flowers and trees. The scenery is different in each season. I think the people who live here are so happy! No wonder there is a poem that says: "The trees are like fireworks and fog around the embankment, and the pavilions are half covered by the haze."

Looking from afar at the Su Causeway in the Spring Dawn, one of the "Ten Scenes of West Lake", the six bridges are covered with misty willows and a few orioles are singing, reporting the early spring on the Su Causeway. There is a folk song that goes: "The scenery of West Lake is six suspension bridges, a willow tree and a peach tree."

Su Dongpo's own poems clearly record the construction of this embankment: "I came to Qiantang to expand the lake's greenness, and the great embankment made men and women compete for prosperity. Six bridges spanned the Milky Way, and the North Mountain was finally connected to the South Screen."

Rowing westward from Three Pools Mirroring the Moon, you can see the six-mile-long embankment formed by the six bridges in the distance. The boatman pointed to one side and introduced: "Su Causeway is the most suitable place for spring travel. When the cold winter is over, the spring breeze blows, willows are on both sides of the bank, and the peaches are bright. When the weeping willows on the embankment are just beginning to turn green and the peach blossoms are in full bloom, the green willows are like smoke, the red peaches are like fog, and the red and green are interspersed, brilliant as brocade." Rubbing his face, he continued: "The most beautiful scenery is to come here in the early morning, when the lake waves are like a mirror, the bridge shadows are reflected on the water, and the birds are chirping. The willow branches are swaying and fluttering, and the peach blossoms are in full bloom like smiling faces. When the moon sets in the west, the breeze blows gently, with infinite tenderness. At this time, the peach blossoms are red and the willows are green, and the scenery is particularly beautiful. If you walk on the embankment, you can see the West Lake waking up in the morning mist, the new willows are like smoke, the spring breeze is swaying, and the birds are singing. The artistic conception is very moving. The lake and mountain scenery is like a painting, with many spirits, like a dream~. "I said: "You recited this tour guide script very well, hahaha, you moved my heart, I want to come again in spring!"



Su Causeway divides West Lake into two parts. One of the advantages of taking a boat is that you can more deeply experience the difference between East Lake and West Lake - East Lake is crowded with tourists, rowing and shuttling, extremely noisy; East Lake is quiet, and it was late winter, and it was already evening. Take a bus to Yuewang Temple, enter Su Causeway from the north, stroll to the south, and enjoy the beautiful scenery of West Lake along the way. Take a cruise ship, there are battery cars from Leifeng Pagoda to Quyuan Fenghe direction, which will stop when you wave, which is very convenient. But if there are a lot of people, it will be more tiring!

The 2-kilometer-long Banyan Tree Boulevard, "Su Causeway Spring Dawn", has only negative ions but no negative energy. You can choose to stroll leisurely or take a battery car. The warm winter sun shines through the soft and slender willow trees, leaving mottled light and shadows on the ground. It is really "at this time and that time, the sun is faint, the years are quiet, and everything is peaceful."

I visited West Lake on October 13, 2016. The most famous scenery of Su Causeway is "Su Causeway Spring Dawn". Unfortunately, I came in October and did not see the spring flowers competing with the green willows. Fortunately, the green willows on both sides of Su Causeway were swaying in the wind, so I could imagine the spring scenery.

The Su Causeway was built by the Song Dynasty literary giant Su Dongpo when he was the prefect of Hangzhou, using the silt excavated to dredge and clean up the West Lake. Later, the people named the dam Su Causeway in memory of Mr. Dongpo's achievements.

The two-kilometer-long Su Causeway is shaded by willow trees and has rippling lake water. It is a beautiful place to walk and see. But it is not suitable for walking in summer because it is too hot.

Although I didn’t see Su Causeway in Spring Dawn, the branches are still there and there are not many people in this season, so I can appreciate the beauty of the enemy even more.

There is heaven above and Suzhou and Hangzhou below. The most famous landscape in Hangzhou is West Lake, which was listed as a world cultural landscape heritage in 2011. Su Causeway Spring Dawn is the first of the ten scenic spots of West Lake, and the four words "Su Causeway Spring Dawn" were written by Emperor Kangxi. Peach trees and willow trees are planted on both sides of Su Causeway. Every March, willow catkins fall on the lake, and the lake is full of vitality. I just finished reading Lin Yutang's "Biography of Su Dongpo", which also mentioned how he built the Hangzhou water supply system and rectified the siltation and weeds in West Lake when he was the governor of Hangzhou. Su Causeway was built with the silt and weeds cleared out that year, which not only solved the transportation problem but also added beautiful scenery to West Lake. Su Causeway is divided into inner lake and outer lake. There are relatively fewer cruise ships in the inner lake. Many people paddle rubber boats here, and many water birds play and forage here. In the evening, the light is soft and the air is cool. I sit on a wooden chair by the lake and wait for the sun to set. The sun shines obliquely from the mountains of Hangzhou, dyeing the lake water with a layer of light gold. The boat passes quietly, breaking the tranquility, and the birds slowly fall on the water and no longer fly. This is what is called the sunset in the west and the tired birds return to the forest. I feel that I no longer exist, but merge into the afterglow of the sunset on this lake in the evening.

It's really nice to take pictures. Hangzhou is very clean. You must ride a shared bicycle to go in and play. Otherwise, you can't walk far and get tired without seeing much scenery. 😊

Fortunately, I walked to the head of Su Causeway and saw a place where ofo and Mobike were parked, so I rushed up and scanned one! This must be quick, because there are really many people, and you will be beaten to it if you hesitate! In the end, I was lucky, one person got one, there are many bridges on Su Causeway, and the uphill road is very steep. Basically, you get off the car and push it, and there is no shade on each bridge. It’s so tiring to push it and it’s so hot! It’s pretty good to ride and stop on other avenues to see the scenery! The road is quite wide, but the battery car completely blocks the traffic when it comes. It really feels so annoying and annoying. One comes and one comes, and it drives so fast! There are shade trees on both sides of the road, which blocks the sun very well! But there was nothing special along the way, so I just rode past it and didn’t take any photos..

It is still the old saying that "the beauty of Chinese scenic spots depends on the tour guide's words" ~ The use of celebrity effect has existed since ancient times. Just laugh it off and don't take it seriously. It's better to leave this kind of beautiful thing to the tour guide to promote it~



Although the scenery of Su Causeway is beautiful now, you must look into the lake. Once you turn your head and look at the levee, the beautiful scenery will be completely destroyed by the crowds of people. Friendly reminder: although the south entrance of Su Causeway is very close to Leifeng Pagoda, you can only listen to the introduction of Leifeng Pagoda. Like the Yellow Crane Tower, it only exists in stories.

You can reach it by bus No. 7 from Hangzhou Railway Station. It takes 4 hours to walk from Qufeng Lotus Garden to Huagangguanyu section. The legendary one peach tree per willow tree should be changed to one row of willow trees per row of peach trees. The road is very wide, should it be a pedestrian path? Anyway, there are shared bicycles on the embankment, but what is annoying is the frequent battery cars in the scenic area, which always ask tourists to give way to the cars!

Su Causeway is a long avenue across West Lake, suitable for walking and cycling. You really have to ride a bicycle, otherwise walking will make you tired. I couldn't walk more than one-third of the way, and my legs were broken. But walking slowly and watching the swaying willows, occasionally people boating and kayaking in West Lake, and Leifeng Pagoda and lotus flowers in the distance, it is really poetic. There are many stray cats near Su Causeway. I heard that someone comes to feed them every day, but unfortunately they are not sterilized. I am afraid that the number will continue to increase and conflicts between people and cats will arise.

According to the History of Yuan Dynasty, when Su Dongpo was the governor of Hangzhou in the fifth year of Yuanyou (1090), he dredged the West Lake and built a north-south embankment with the excavated silt and water hyacinth.
