A five-minute walk along the wooden plank road brings you to the Wuzhen Grand Theater. The gray sky and dark water make the theater seem rather ordinary. Designer Yao Renxi, who was initially thrilled to have the theater built in a deserted fishing village, unexpectedly found it possible to sustain expenses solely through admissions. Yao, a Taiwanese, UC Berkeley graduate, and a devoted Buddhist, designed the theater in the form of twin lotus flowers, with its Jiangnan-style ice-cracked window lattices. The theater's reflection in the water alternates between reality and illusion, creating a "moon in the water" effect.

Wuzhen Grand Theater is a perfect example of modern art blending with the classic water town. At night, the lights and the water complement each other, and the architectural silhouette resembles a dreamlike stage in a play. This is not only the soul of the play but also a profound dialogue between culture and aesthetics. Every performance is a unique artistic feast.

When you leave the East Scenic Area and enter the West Scenic Area, you can see that it is also a crowded place. This is where many tour groups have lunch and rest.

By Winter Bear |

Walking along the small wooden bridge after entering the Xizha Scenic Area, the first thing you see is the Grand Theater. There seems to be no performances during the Qingming Festival, and the theater is closed. The view from a distance is still quite bad.

By My dearest you |

At exactly 11:00 p.m. that year, the theater began performing. Many people sat in the audience, eating melon seeds, watching the performance and listening to the opera.

By Yingying |

Very beautiful, Yao Renxi's work, very unique

I only saw the exterior but didn't go in due to time constraints

Wuzhen Grand Theater is a very worthwhile place to visit. The appearance is very beautiful and worth seeing.

By raorao |

As the main venue of the first Wuzhen Art Festival, it is very beautiful and has a strong sense of design just from the appearance.

By If you don't change your name, you will die_Ten years |

It is closest to the entrance of the scenic area. The environment and design are great. It is the last thing I saw when I came out at night.

By Inexplicable Little Flying Pig |

I watched a Wu Opera at Wuzhen Grand Theater. Although I didn't understand it, it had a unique flavor.

By Phoenix of the Desert |

Although I didn’t go inside, the theater’s architectural style is very consistent with Wuzhen, and it is a great place for photos both during the day and at night.

By Shushike |

Wuzhen Grand Theater is probably the most modern and grand place in Wuzhen. Watching a movie there should be a good choice.

By Doudoubaba |

The feeling of combining ancient and modern elements is great~~~~

By stevedom |

If the weather is fine, there will be movies in the evening. You can experience the feeling of watching a movie with a group of people in the compound.

The largest building in Wuzhen, it looks like a pair of lotus flowers rising from the water. It is very spectacular and beautiful.

Since it was not open, we took pictures and left.

Listening to storytelling is a time-honored pastime for the people of Wuzhen. After a day's work, they often relax with a pot of tea, a small stool, and a few minutes of storytelling to unwind. Today, the Wuzhen Grand Theater offers storytelling performances every afternoon and evening. The storytellers recount stories in the local dialect. Why not take a seat and experience the authentic Jiangnan town lifestyle?

By Walking with a piece of cake |

In the evening, the day we went there, there was an open-air movie showing, a classic old black-and-white movie, which was shown using an old-fashioned projector and had a unique flavor!

By Frigidity Bread |

From the outside, you can see that the Grand Theater has gone through a lot of hardships. I was looking forward to visiting Wuzhen but didn't take the time to go in and see the drama.

By envyaero |

I don't really know what happened. We were lying on chairs at dusk and she played Cao Fang's "End of Summer" on saxophone. It happened to be the end of summer at that time, and the atmosphere was just as noisy as in the song.

By It's okay to bask in the sun |

There was no performance that day, so I just watched it from the side when I went there. The appearance is quite nice, and I would like to go in and experience it next time I have the chance.

By Happy monkey |

Wuzhen Grand Theatre is a modern, metallic building that serves as the center of the Wuzhen Theatre Festival. On weekdays, people simply gaze at it from afar, rarely approaching.

If the weather is fine, there will be movies in the evening. You can experience the feeling of watching a movie with a group of people in the compound.

By Time Remembers |

In the exhibition hall area, there will be some special exhibitions to visit. Remember that you need tickets.

This is what I saw when I first entered Xizha. What a beautiful shape. It is said to be the most beautiful theater.

By Little Bad Guy 36 |

It's a beautiful place. Every place in Wuzhen is a tourist attraction.

By Swelling Girl Sauce |

It is not far from the Xizha Scenic Area and you can see it. I heard that drama festivals are often held here. I didn’t catch it this time, but it still looks good from the outside.

By Mars User |

There was an event at the Grand Theater at the time, but unfortunately I didn't get a ticket to get in, and that day was Double Eleven. I really missed him, but my pride got in the way, and I thought since he didn't contact me, I shouldn't contact him either. Now looking back, I really don't know why I was so angry at that time? If I had known that the time between us would be so short, how could I have been so angry with him? How could I have been so angry with him?

By Yuki |

These are all scenic spots in Wuzhen West Gate. I passed by them when I was walking around West Gate.

By Bunny Leung |

I didn’t really look closely at the places where I watched plays before.

By Strange aunt. |

The design style is very unique. I didn't go in to see it, but the building is very beautiful.

By Watermelon-flavored candy |

One of the iconic attractions in Wuzhen, it is quite suitable to take a girl there to take photos.

By Backpackers traveling in the South |

Just two words: beautiful, if you don’t believe me, look at the pictures! ! ! !

By Mr. Zhang |

There will be movies shown at designated locations, and an old man will tell stories to tourists. ps (it doesn't seem to be storytelling, I didn't hear the specific name clearly)

By McDull |

The quaint open-air theater, sitting across the river, drinking tea and listening to music is quite poetic.

By Joan |

Wuzhen is a kind of complex for people of my age. Once I come here, I never leave. . . .

By Suwen Lingshu |

Personally, I feel that the night view is more beautiful. It would be wonderful to be able to watch a performance at the Grand Theater during the Wuzhen Theater Festival. It's a pity that I didn't get a ticket and I only had one day to stay here. I will come again next time.

By Hua Jieyu |

The appearance is quite artistic, and the reflection in the water will be more beautiful at night.

By Echo |

It's a pity that I didn't watch the performance. I feel that Wuzhen as a whole gives people a good feeling. It would be better if it could retain more of the atmosphere of life during development.

By Echo |

The building itself is very distinctive, not far from Xizha, but it is too modern and does not match the overall style of Wuzhen.

By Edison, South |

Although I didn't go inside the Grand Theater, from the outside I felt that it was very grand and luxurious. It is basically the largest building in the Xizha Scenic Area.

By Demonic Sage |

I went there at night and happened to catch a movie showing outdoors. The old movie cameras and films, the noisy voices and the mosquitoes everywhere made me feel like I was back in time.

By Avatar |

A very unique theater, at the entrance of Wuzhen, with a grand and beautiful appearance

By applexxw |

When I went there, it happened to be the Spring Drama Festival. I watched Rhino in Love. The theater environment was great, and there was a car to take me back to the B&B at the end of the night.

By La la la |

Wuzhen is relatively small, so basically every place is a tourist attraction. It is recommended to go there when there are fewer people!

By Zhu Lingling |

The exterior design and the surrounding environment are well designed and the photos are also very nice.

By kinmeng22 |

It was a surprise to see such a building in Wuzhen. It seems not in harmony with the ancient style.

By Rain in the third year of the Republic of China |

I usually go there to watch movies, but they don't show movies during the festival. Last time I went in, I bought postcards of Mr. He's "Water Book" and a festival commemorative album. I love it.

By AllenL AllenL |

The newly built Wuzhen Grand Theater has a modernist style.

By Happy Meatballs |

Still good...

By Happy Meatballs |

It was very good at the time, combining the local water and adapting to local conditions.

By Sunny |

I only took a photo from a distance on the wooden plank road, and didn't see it up close.

By LErick |

The venue of the Wuzhen Theatre Festival.

It is said that this building has received quite high reviews online?

I find it a bit hard to appreciate. It doesn't fit in with the overall atmosphere of Wuzhen. It's like a UFO that has broken into the Jiangnan water town.

By Little Apple |

Wuzhen Grand Theater is located inside the Xizha Scenic Area of Wuzhen, and the building is very magnificent.

By rainbow4417 |

It is particularly magnificent among the ancient buildings in Xizha! The exterior design is unique and the night view is the most beautiful!

By Si Nian |

The view is very broad and can accommodate many people. The surrounding area is filled with the fragrance of green grass.

By Lou Xinyue |

It looks good from the outside, but I haven't been in, so I don't know what it's like inside.

By Zhao Huoding |

Whether it is day or night, the exterior of Wuzhen Grand Theater is very beautiful

By Zhao Huoding |

It's pretty good. I feel that the settings of some scenic spots in Wuzhen are quite thoughtful.

By Fang H |

I didn't go in, but it looks pretty good! My son thought it was great!

By Cute Pig |

The theater building is quite distinctive. You can hardly see anything during the day, but it looks quite beautiful when the lights are turned on at night.

However, the door is locked and you can't get in, so just watch from a distance~

By Heart is far away |

The theater's stage is not big, and local performing artists are performing.

By ada920 |

The tour guide said it is now used as a cinema...

By Shorter name |

The entrance is in the middle of the lake, but it seems to be out of place with the style of the ancient town.

By In the South |

It seems to be open at different times. It was closed when I went there. Passing by the entrance, the architectural design looks quite stylish.

By Snow 3 Flying Who |

Suzhou Pingtan and open-air movies. There are performances in the Pingtan building at a fixed time every day, and famous artists and actors often come here to perform. In addition, open-air movies will be played when the weather is good. The uncle who tells the story is also very handsome.

By China-TravelNote user 91504364 |

I took a photo on the wooden boardwalk. It was very beautiful. If there was a performance inside, I would definitely go in and watch it.

By Photographing the Donkey Wind Flute |

Big theater, you can watch movies here! ! ! !

By Xiao Lu Chengzi |

"A Time to Live and a Time to Die" is definitely a classic. Huang Lei and Wuzhen complement each other. Now Huang Lei is always present at every Wuzhen Drama Festival at the Wuzhen Grand Theater.

By nyynuaa |

Near the entrance to Xizha, the Grand Theatre looks like a lotus flower rising from the water, or like a folding fan.

By Heart is far away |

Whether it is day or night, the exterior of Wuzhen Grand Theater is very beautiful

By Hollow Brother |

Get off the bus at the scenic area's entrance and walk along the plank road into Xizha. Even on rainy days, tourists still rent boats for sightseeing on Yuanbao Lake. The waterfront Wuzhen Grand Theater, with its large floor-to-ceiling windows framed by wooden lattices, is a striking feature. Across from the theater is the Mu Xin Art Museum. Wuzhen's cultural atmosphere remains strong.

By Rain in the third year of the Republic of China |

This place seems to show old movies, usually commemorating the anti-Japanese struggle

By ATOBEKEGIO |

There are storytelling performances every day, and there is also an open-air cinema showing old movies.
