2023.7.20 The first stop of the trip to Ningbo was Xikou Scenic Area, where Liangzi's beloved Jiang's former residence is located. The town is not big, there are not many tourists, there is not much noise and long queues, and it is very comfortable to visit.
Ningbo has only two 5A-level scenic spots, the Tianyi Pavilion-Yuehu Scenic Area in the city center and the Xikou-Tengtou Scenic Area in Fenghua.
Xikou is named after its location at the mouth of Shanxi River, a tributary of Fenghua River. It combines the quintessence of humanities, the elegance of mountains and rivers, and the solemnity of Buddhism. This 5A-level scenic spot is very large. If you drive there, you can choose to exit at Xikou East or Xikou West. Xikou East is the main entrance and is relatively crowded, while Xikou West is the back entrance and is relatively less crowded. The scenery is good, with both natural and cultural landscapes. It is still very beautiful. It takes basically a day. If you want to go to Jiang's Mansion, it is recommended to go there the next day, as it is too rushed to complete it in one day.

Actually, I knew very little about Xikou in the past. This time when I came here, I felt that it was a really good place with beautiful mountains and rivers, picturesque scenery, and it was relatively quiet.
Located in Fenghua District, Ningbo, Chiang Kai-shek's hometown is a 5A-level scenic spot encompassing Chiang Kai-shek's former residence and Xuedou Mountain. The entrance fee is 120 yuan, while Xuedou Mountain costs 150 yuan (including a 30 yuan bus ticket). A combined ticket for both attractions costs 230 yuan. If you want to visit both, it's recommended to purchase a combined ticket, which can be discounted by booking in advance on China-TravelNote. If you want to visit both, it's best to plan a two-day trip: arrive at noon on the first day, visit Xuedou Mountain in the afternoon, stay overnight in Xikou Town, and visit Chiang Kai-shek's former residence the next morning. You can take bus No. 988 from Ningbo Railway Station South Square or take the bus to Xikou from Ningbo South Bus Station, then transfer to bus No. 106. Xuedou Temple on Xuedou Mountain is said to be the sanctuary of Maitreya Buddha, housing the tallest bronze seated Maitreya Buddha statue in China. The highlight of Xuedou Mountain is the section from Sanyintan to Qianzhang Cliff, where the picturesque scenery, rainbow-colored waterfalls, and the cascading cascades down the cliffs create a sense of mini-Jiuzhaigou. The best route to Xuedou Mountain is to take a bus to Sanyintan, starting from there and descending all the way down to save time and effort. Then, take the train to Qianzhang Cliff, then the cable car to Miaogao Terrace (the train and cable car are charged separately, totaling 50 yuan). Finally, descend from Miaogao Terrace to Xuedou Temple, passing Zhang Xueliang's imprisonment along the way. Note that the cable car is under maintenance one day per month, so you'll have to walk to get there, as I did. It's recommended to consult the scenic area in advance and plan your itinerary.

I went during the May Day holiday, and the traffic was quite congested, but it was worth it. The scenery was pleasant and the air was fresh, but the area is a bit large, so if you want to fully explore it, two days wouldn't be enough. We first visited the Maitreya Buddha, then went to the topmost Xufu Rock, then descended to the various scenic spots. This is supposed to be the fastest route for viewing the scenery, but we were in a rush the whole way, and still didn't see all the recommended attractions. My only complaint is that the water at Sanyintan is quite muddy. There's a lot of walking in the area, so I recommend wearing appropriate shoes. Small lizards occasionally appear on the trails, so I recommend avoiding walking too close to the grass. After Sanyintan, you should take the Happiness Train and cable car. The views and experience are completely different (the only downside is that it's not very good for taking photos). More importantly, if you don't take them, you'll have to return the same way, which is time-consuming and laborious. Overall, I'm very satisfied and highly recommend!

Take a long-distance bus from Ningbo South Bus Station to Xikou for 10 yuan per person, about a 40-minute ride. Upon arrival in Xikou, it's best to inquire directly at the window about the last return bus time. From Xikou Bus Station, take bus No. 106 for 1 yuan per person, about a 10-minute ride to Wuling Square. Staff advise against taking a taxi, as illegal taxis offer a 15-yuan drop-off at the scenic area entrance.
After getting off the bus, walk back and turn into Sanwei Bookstore, which is the scenic area ticket office. A combined ticket for Jiang's hometown, Xuedou Mountain, and bus tickets is 230 yuan per person, and 130 yuan per person for those aged 60-69. My parents got half-price tickets, and I got the full ticket, which cost 390 yuan by credit card.
The whole trip to Jiang's hometown by tricycle costs 60 yuan/vehicle, which is not recommended. First of all, the speed is not faster than walking. Secondly, after taking the business, the driver will urge you in various ways and tell you that you cannot complete the entire scenic area in one day.
The name Xikou comes from the stream that runs through the entire town. It takes about an hour to visit all the attractions in Jiang's hometown.
Get off bus 106 at the station and continue to the tourist distribution center. If you haven't bought a combined ticket, you can buy one here. If you have a ticket, just walk to the end of the hall and take the scenic area transportation up the mountain.
The scenic area transportation is divided into three sections. The first section goes to the Qianzhang Cliff entrance, and the hike to Qianzhang Cliff is entirely uphill. If you don't visit Qianzhang Cliff, you can first visit the Maitreya Buddha at Xuedou Temple and enjoy a vegetarian meal there. The Xuedou Temple tour and lunch take about an hour. Then, take the second section of the scenic area transportation from the adjacent Ring City Center. Be sure to pay attention to the direction of the bus to avoid getting on the wrong bus! This ride takes over 10 minutes and takes you to the Sanyintan entrance. The entire tour here is downhill. Alternatively, you can wait for the bus there and take the third section of the scenic area transportation to Xufuyan.
To explore the area below Sanyintan, you'll need to take the Happiness Express and the cable car. A combined ticket costs 50 yuan per person. If you purchase the Happiness Express separately, the Happiness Express costs 45 yuan per person, and the cable car costs 35 yuan per person. If you don't want to take either, you'll need to return to the Sanyintan entrance the same way you came. There's no trail along the Happiness Express route!!! The entire tour, entering Sanyintan and exiting at Qianzhang Cliff, takes about 3.5 hours.
A worthwhile place to visit: Climb up to Myokodai for a different view
