Hello! We are planning a trip middle of November and I’ve been doing a lot of research online regarding the weather during that time. From what I read it gets rainy during that time in the north and the east. But some of the information is conflicting. Maybe someone who has been or local people can help me and tell me if it’s ok to travel in November. How rainy does it get, do you still get some sun during the day, or is it just rain all day every day, and also If swimming is doable during that time (I read somewhere that beaches might be closed because of unfavorable conditions?).
Some first hand information will be much appreciated!
Hi there,
Swim solely behind a protective reef, like Hikka. Some sunshine on 2/3 of the days...

November is a transition month from a weather point of view. So there is more chance of rain then, both on the SW coast and on the East coast. Will it rain continuously throughout the day? It's hard to say, but it's known to happen. If you delay your vacation by a week or two, into December, your chances of better weather goes up.
Where have you done this "doing a lot of research online "? I'm curious because there should be no conflicting information.
All research should lead to the fact that it's the rainiest/most unsettling month of the year, all around the island.
I can link you the articles that I’ve read but I see no point honestly. What I meant by conflicting is: the articles point october being the rainiest month, and november clearing up, with the monsoon affecting only the north and east part, while others point that even though the monsoon affects north and east, south is also affected. I like to do my research before I go somewhere but many times what I read online was different when getting there. This is my first time to Sri Lanka so I wanted to make sure that I am able to visit some part of the country at least. Also, sometimes, a week or two makes a really big difference. I thought these forums are for matters like this one. If you don’t like to help others maybe you shouldn’t reply at all.
Thank you much! It really helps and I was wondering if that might help.
Hi! November does bring some rain, especially in the north and east, but it’s usually not constant. You’ll likely experience heavy showers that last a few hours, but the sun often comes out afterward. So, it won’t spoil your trip! Beaches in the south and southwest, like Galle and Unawatuna, are still great for swimming, and the central regions like Kandy and Ella have pleasant weather with occasional rain. You’ll still get plenty of sun, and the rain can add a nice touch to the lush scenery. Enjoy your trip to Sri Lanka!
Hi there!
November weather can be unpredictable, especially in the north and east, with chances of rain. However, it's not usually constant, and you can still enjoy some sunshine. Areas like Bentota, Hikkaduwa, Unawatuna, and Weligama are good for swimming, as they have many safe spots.
While some beaches might have rough conditions, exploring different parts of the island, particularly the southern and southwestern coasts, can offer better weather and swimming opportunities.
Hope this helps, and enjoy your trip!

@Gabreila.
On the contrary, it's for the very reason of helping others, that I'd like to know the source. If it's on TA, then we definitely need to clear that off.
We get a lot of questions about late October/Mid April, because people can get "conflicting" information due to the description of the monsoons on different websites. But there is rarely a question regarding mid-november as it always tends to be rainy with unfriendly beaches.
The big question (and gamble ) is whether it would clear up by early /mid December
Hi,
Did you visit in November. How was the weather and where all did you go? Thanks.
Hello! We twitched the dates a bit and we went at the start of December. The weather was really good, we had no problems. We were in Colombo, Galle, Mirissa, Ella, Sigirya, Kandy. Ella was a bit rainy, but the rest of the holiday we had only sunshine. Let me know if you need more details.
