Hi,
What do you think about a quick visit to Varanasi? Maybe just a day or two. We want to visit the essentials of North India in 2 weeks. Most of the programs are centered around Delhi, Agra, Jaipur and some other cities.
Varanasi looks a bit far from the places we plan to visit but if possible we want to experience it.
Dear Cecilia V,
Namaste!!
Yes, you can visit Varanasi, is very beautiful city, Varanasi is one of the world's oldest continually inhabited cities, the city draws Hindu pilgrims who bathe in the Ganges River’s sacred waters and perform funeral rites. Along the city's winding streets are some 2,000 temples, including Kashi Vishwanath, the “Golden Temple,” dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva.
Suggested itinerary as follows –
Day 1: Delhi to Varanasi (By Flight) - Begin the day with a pre-dawn boat journey down the Yamuna River to visit some of the major ghats. Explore Banaras Hindu University. Visit Sarnath Temple and the Archaeological Museum, where Lord Buddha preached his first sermon.
Day 2: Varanasi - Visit the ghats of Varanasi in the morning after breakfast & boat ride. And local market.
You can catch Vande Bharat train or Flight to Delhi.

To be frank, one day is just pointless. Two might work, in a better world you have 3 days, and ideally 4.

Varanasi is easy to reach. You take the overnight train from Agra. See this link for the schedule.

As I explained on your other thread. YOU choose where to go - you need to do the research to plan your itinerary. Read guide books; use the official tourism website. Let the travel agent take care of logistics and details.
Buy or borrow multiple guide books - Lonely Planet; Rough Guides; Frommers; etc
Meticulously trawl the official Indian Tourism website: https://www.incredibleindia.gov.in/en
Look at a map.
Do not be sold car journeys if you want to travel further either by plane or train.
For example,
Arr DEL - 3 days; flight to Varanasi - 3 days, overnight train to Agra, 2 days; late train to Jaipur, 3 days; overnight train to Udaipur 2 days and fight to DEL.
You can visit more places inside 14 days, but a series of 1 and 2 night stops is a recipe for exhaustion.
But you need to know where you want to go.
2 Nights/3 Days is sufficient for Varanasi tour, better to catch the flight from Delhi to Varanasi and catch train from Varanasi to Agra, this is great route.
Thank you very much for all the suggestions. Looks like you are the only traveller in this forum. Most the answers are from local Indian travel agencies.
