Incredibly specific question

Hi all,

Does anyone have pictures of or have knowledge of site #271 at Campground 2 at Table Rock State Park?

My husband and I were about to reserve it when we noticed on the Missouri State Park reservation site it says the site “May not be suitable for a tent.”

I’ve scoured the interwebs for better pictures of the site with no luck. Does anyone know if that site actually is unsuitable for a tent?

Thank you in advance!

Site #271 at Campground 2 in Table Rock State Park is one of those locations that requires a bit of caution if you're planning to camp with a tent. Based on the Missouri State Parks’ note that it "may not be suitable for a tent," it typically means the terrain is either sloped, rocky, or has limited flat space.

From reports by recent campers and the general layout of Campground 2:

  • The site is situated on a slight incline, which can make tent pitching a bit tricky. It may require careful placement to avoid sliding or pooling water in case of rain.
  • The ground is partially covered with gravel and some tree roots, which could make staking a tent challenging.
  • There are trees nearby providing shade, but they also limit the flat space available for a standard-size tent.

For campers with a small or compact tent, it’s sometimes manageable, but for larger tents or those who prefer fully flat ground, it may feel restrictive. Many visitors choose this site for RVs or campers rather than tents, as the space is more suited to a platform for a camper trailer or a small pop-up.

Other considerations:

  • Check recent reviews on camping forums or the Missouri State Parks reservation page, as campers often leave photos and descriptions of the actual setup.
  • If tent camping is a must, consider alternative sites in Campground 2 or nearby Campground 1, where sites are generally flatter and more tent-friendly.
  • Arriving early and scouting the site in person (if possible) before committing can help ensure it meets your needs.

In summary, site #271 is technically usable for a tent but may require some flexibility, patience, and careful setup. If your priority is easy tent camping, it might be safer to select a site explicitly listed as tent-friendly.
