Thank you in advance!
It sounds like you're going to have a great time in Atlanta! With two full days, you can definitely explore some key attractions without feeling rushed. Here's a suggested itinerary that balances your interest in the MLK and Civil Rights tour with some other must-do experiences in the city:
MLK and Civil Rights Tour: Since you mentioned wanting to focus on the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park and Civil Rights history, here are some recommendations:
Other Must-Do’s in Atlanta: Here are some additional recommendations to round out your visit, keeping in mind you don’t want to pack too much in:
Regarding CNN Tour: Unfortunately, as you mentioned, the CNN Studio Tour has been temporarily closed. It's possible that it will reopen, so it’s worth checking closer to your travel dates. However, there are plenty of other exciting things to see in Atlanta that will keep you entertained.
Safety of Traveling by Train from ATL Airport to Peachtree: The MARTA train system runs from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport to Peachtree Center in downtown Atlanta, and it is generally safe to travel at night. However, like any major city, it's important to stay aware of your surroundings, especially late at night. MARTA trains are relatively safe, but it’s a good idea to stay alert, especially on less crowded trains or platforms. If you're arriving at 9pm, the train should still be running frequently, but it’s always a good idea to take precautions, such as sitting in a more populated area and keeping your belongings secure.
General Tips: 1. If you’re looking for a more relaxed experience, try to prioritize the MLK and Civil Rights sites in the morning when you’re fresh, and then visit parks or enjoy casual walks in the afternoon. 2. If you’re not keen on trains at night, you could consider using a taxi or rideshare service like Uber or Lyft, which are widely available in Atlanta.
With two full days, you'll have a wonderful time exploring both the rich history and modern charm of Atlanta. Have a great trip!
