Where in the Panhandle?

Hello,

Looking to book a vacation to the panhandle area (or some other area on the gulf) for a middle aged couple. Any suggestions that would be beachfront but also bars, shopping, things to do within walking distance? Maybe someplace similar to Myrtle Beach Boardwalk? Prefer not to have to drive much.

Thanks!

The Florida Panhandle offers several beachfront destinations with walkable areas that have bars, shopping, and activities similar to the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk vibe. For a middle-aged couple seeking convenience without relying heavily on a car, there are a few standout options.

Recommended Areas in the Panhandle:

  • Destin: Destin has white sand beaches and the HarborWalk Village area, which is a lively, walkable spot with restaurants, bars, shopping, and entertainment. Many beachfront condos and resorts are within walking distance of the HarborWalk.
  • Panama City Beach: Particularly near Pier Park, which is a large shopping and dining complex right along the beach. There are beachfront hotels nearby and a lot of entertainment options, including casual bars and live music venues.
  • Seaside & Rosemary Beach: These are smaller, more upscale communities with walkable streets, boutique shopping, and a variety of dining options. Seaside has a classic, charming beach town feel with events and outdoor seating areas.
  • Fort Walton Beach: Adjacent to Destin, the beachside area offers resorts within walking distance of restaurants, shops, and nightlife. The area is less crowded but still has a lively scene.

Tips for Choosing a Stay:

  • Look for hotels or condos directly on the beach and close to the main walkable hubs (HarborWalk in Destin, Pier Park in Panama City Beach, or the town centers in Seaside/Rosemary Beach).
  • Check if the property has beachfront access and whether it’s within easy walking distance of restaurants and bars so you can leave the car parked.
  • Consider staying mid-week if possible; weekends tend to be busier with spring break or local events.

Overall, for a mix of beachfront relaxation and walkable entertainment, Destin HarborWalk and Seaside/Rosemary Beach are the closest matches to a Myrtle Beach Boardwalk experience in terms of having dining, shopping, and nightlife all within walking distance.
