Bike Rentals Near Shark Valley

I am traveling to Everglades on February 15th, and I would love to rent a bike to use in the park. I looked at the recommended place near Shark Valley, but the advance reservations are already taken. Any suggestions on other places where I could rent one? I won't be landing in Ft. Lauderdale until 9 am, so it would be a midday rental.

Thanks in advance!

Amy

If you’re planning to visit Shark Valley in Everglades National Park on February 15th and are looking for bike rentals, there are a few alternative options even if the recommended rental place is fully booked. Shark Valley itself has a bike rental facility at the visitor center, but as you noted, advance reservations often fill quickly. Luckily, there are nearby alternatives and strategies for midday rentals.

Here are some options to consider:

  • Local Bike Shops in Homestead or Near Everglades City: Several small bike rental shops in the Everglades area offer daily rentals. You can call ahead to check availability for same-day rentals. While Homestead is about 40–50 minutes east of Shark Valley, some shops may allow you to pick up early and drop off later in the day.
  • Miami Bike Rentals with Shuttle to Everglades: Certain Miami-based rental companies provide bike rentals along with shuttle service to Shark Valley. This option is convenient if you’re landing at Fort Lauderdale at 9 am and want a seamless ride into the park. You may need to book a few hours in advance once you land.
  • Everglades Tour Companies: Some tour operators near Shark Valley rent bikes as part of their guided or self-guided tour packages. Even if their guided tours are booked, they sometimes allow independent bike rentals on short notice.

Additional tips for your midday visit:

  • Arrive at Shark Valley Visitor Center by around 11 am to pick up bikes and avoid the hottest part of the day as you explore the 15-mile loop.
  • Bring water, sun protection, and bug spray since you’ll be biking through open marshland with limited shade.
  • Check if the rental company provides helmets and locks; some may require a small deposit.
  • Consider splitting your day: bike the loop in the cooler midday hours, then enjoy a short tram ride or wildlife viewing if it gets too hot.

Even though advance reservations fill up quickly, calling local shops or tour companies directly often yields last-minute availability. Planning for pickup shortly after your 9 am arrival at Fort Lauderdale gives you enough time to reach Shark Valley and still enjoy a few hours biking in the park.
