Family trip where to stay?
Ive been once and stayed at The Emerald Grande but t was a 50th bday celebration. We will be taking our 13 and 19 year old girls. We like more lively hotels. we would love to be within walking distance to eat, shop etc. Is there an area on the beach like that?
For a family trip to the Destin/Miramar Beach area with teenage daughters, and if you are looking for a more lively hotel within walking distance to restaurants, shops, and activities, there are several areas and properties to consider. Emerald Grande is upscale and quieter, which may not provide the more vibrant atmosphere you’re seeking this time.
Best areas for walkable, lively experiences:
- Destin Harbor Boardwalk: The Harbor area is lively, with numerous restaurants, bars, shops, and activities such as boat rentals, fishing charters, and dolphin cruises. Staying near here puts you in walking distance of entertainment and casual dining.
- Sandestin Resort Village of Baytowne Wharf: This resort complex is very family-friendly but also lively, with a pedestrian-friendly village featuring restaurants, shopping, live music, and activities like mini-golf and water sports. The area has easy beach access and a festive evening atmosphere.
- Crystal Beach / Miramar Beach area: The northern part of Miramar Beach has a concentration of condos and resorts with pools and beach access, and some are closer to the Silver Sands Premium Outlets. The vibe is slightly less crowded than the harbor, but you still have restaurants and shops within walking distance if you choose the right property.
Hotel/resort suggestions that fit a lively, walkable experience:
- Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort: Offers multiple accommodation types, beach access, pools, restaurants, and walking proximity to Baytowne Wharf.
- Destin Harbor Boardwalk Hotels / Condos: Look for properties near the boardwalk for a vibrant atmosphere and direct access to dining, shopping, and entertainment.
- Watercolor or Seaside adjacent properties: Some boutique condos or vacation rentals in these areas have easy beach access and are within a short drive or bike ride to shops and restaurants, though walking distance may vary.
Additional considerations:
- March and spring break can be busy, so if you want liveliness but not excessive crowds, Sandestin and Harbor areas strike a good balance.
- Check each hotel or condo for teen-friendly amenities such as pools, water sports, or social activities.
- Parking may be limited in the Harbor Boardwalk area, but walking to entertainment makes up for it.
In summary, for a lively, walkable beach stay with 13 and 19-year-olds, consider Sandestin Resort near Baytowne Wharf or Destin Harbor Boardwalk properties for convenience, entertainment, and a vibrant atmosphere. Miramar Beach condos can also work if you want a slightly quieter but still fun environment close to shops and restaurants.
