Outrigger Paradise Hotel or Waikiki Resort Hotel?

We (2 parents in their 50s, husband me and 4 year old) will be in Hawaii next week and wondering which hotel is better the Waikiki Resort Hotel in the Diamond Head Kuhuo Beach part or the Outrigger Paradise in central waikiki part? We are looking for nice lunch and dinner spots near the hotel and nice beach/sand (not rocky under water for feet).

Thanks!

When deciding between the Waikiki Resort Hotel near Diamond Head/Kuhio Beach and the Outrigger Paradise in central Waikiki for a family with a young child, there are a few factors to consider, including location, beach quality, dining options, and overall convenience.

Waikiki Resort Hotel (Diamond Head/Kuhio Beach area):

  • This area tends to be quieter and more residential compared to central Waikiki, which can be nice with a 4-year-old.
  • The beach near this hotel is part of Kuhio Beach, which generally has soft sand and is relatively kid-friendly. The water is usually calm enough for young children to splash safely close to shore, though there may be some rocky areas under water in places.
  • Dining options are a short walk away but more limited than central Waikiki. You’ll find a mix of casual cafes and a few sit-down restaurants, but fewer high-end options within immediate walking distance.
  • Easy access to the Diamond Head area for a morning hike or scenic stroll.

Outrigger Paradise (central Waikiki):

  • Central Waikiki puts you in the heart of Waikiki Beach, which is wider and more bustling. The sand is good for kids, and the water is typically shallow near the shore, but expect more crowds.
  • Walking distance to numerous restaurants, cafes, and shopping options, so you’ll have a variety of lunch and dinner spots literally outside your door.
  • Easy access to activities such as surf lessons, paddle boarding, and catamaran rides, which can be convenient with a young child.
  • More lively and energetic atmosphere, which may be fun or a bit overwhelming depending on your preference for quiet.

Summary Recommendation:

  • If your priority is a quieter, more relaxed beach experience with less foot traffic and easier access to Diamond Head, Waikiki Resort Hotel may be the better choice.
  • If you want to be in the center of Waikiki with abundant dining options, easy beach access, and close proximity to family-friendly activities, Outrigger Paradise would be more convenient.
  • Both beaches are kid-friendly for a 4-year-old, though central Waikiki will be busier and more social, while Kuhio Beach is quieter and potentially slightly safer for little ones.

Ultimately, it depends on whether you value a more relaxed, slightly residential feel versus being in the center of activity and having a wide variety of dining and entertainment options within easy reach.
