Holiday Inn or Comfort Suites?

The Holiday Inn said they are currently doing a full renovation; with that said;

Has anyone stayed at both locations and can tell me which is a better hotel, if I was to book a room with the Lake View at either.

Thanks :)

Choosing between the Holiday Inn and Comfort Suites in Munising largely depends on the current renovation status of the Holiday Inn and your specific preferences in terms of amenities, location, and room features. Let’s take a closer look at both options:

The Holiday Inn in Munising, despite undergoing a full renovation, still offers several advantages:

  • Lake View: The Holiday Inn offers beautiful views of Lake Superior, and if you book a lakeview room, you’ll likely have an incredible, panoramic view of the water.
  • Renovation Update: Depending on the phase of renovation, some areas of the hotel might be newer and fresher than others. It’s worth confirming which areas are completed and if any work might affect your stay, such as noise or limited access to amenities.
  • On-Site Dining and Amenities: The hotel typically has a restaurant and bar on-site, which can be convenient, and it’s well-equipped with a pool, fitness center, and other common amenities.

On the other hand, Comfort Suites in Munising offers its own set of benefits, particularly if you’re looking for a quieter or more straightforward stay:

  • Lake View: Comfort Suites also offers rooms with views of the lake, though the exact quality of the view may vary. It may not be as expansive as the view at the Holiday Inn, but still scenic and relaxing.
  • Modern Feel: Comfort Suites tends to offer well-maintained rooms and is generally a bit newer in terms of decor and amenities compared to the Holiday Inn (even factoring in the renovations). It might not have the same "grand hotel" feel, but it’s comfortable and functional.
  • Complimentary Amenities: Comfort Suites typically includes complimentary breakfast and Wi-Fi, which might appeal if you're looking for a more budget-friendly option without sacrificing too much in terms of comfort.

If you’re specifically looking for a hotel with a "wow factor" view, and you don’t mind potential renovation disturbances at the Holiday Inn, then the Holiday Inn may be your best bet—especially for the lake view. However, if you're concerned about renovation noise or prefer a quieter stay, Comfort Suites would likely provide a smoother experience, particularly if you're staying for a few nights and want the most seamless stay possible.

In conclusion:

  • If you don’t mind renovations and want a potentially better lake view and more upscale amenities, go with the Holiday Inn.
  • If you prefer a quieter, perhaps newer hotel with fewer disruptions, and a good but possibly less impressive lake view, Comfort Suites might be your better choice.

Either way, both options provide comfortable stays in Munising with close access to the beauty of the Upper Peninsula.
