Phoenix to Sedona drive stop in Jerome? Advice needed

Hello, we'll be staying for 4 days in Sedona and would like to visit Jerome on our way from Phoenix airport to Sedona. What would you recommend to visit ( stay for a couple of hrs) and some nice places to have lunch? Thank you!

Jerome is a charming historic mining town perched on Cleopatra Hill, roughly midway between Phoenix and Sedona. Spending a couple of hours there is perfect for stretching your legs, exploring galleries, and enjoying the unique atmosphere.

Here are some highlights to visit:

  • Jerome State Historic Park: Offers a small museum in the Douglas Mansion detailing the town’s mining history, plus great views of the Verde Valley.
  • Art galleries and studios: Jerome has many local artists’ galleries. Strolling along Main Street you’ll find unique art, jewelry, and crafts.
  • Historic Main Street: Explore the quirky shops, old buildings, and learn about the town’s colorful past.
  • Mine tours: If time allows, consider a quick tour of one of the old copper mines, like the Mine Museum, which is small but interesting.

For lunch options in Jerome:

  • The Haunted Hamburger: Popular spot with great burgers, outdoor seating, and fantastic valley views.
  • Red Raven Restaurant: Upscale casual dining with a creative menu and cozy atmosphere.
  • Caffe Giuseppe: Italian-style café with sandwiches, soups, and espresso drinks – good for a lighter lunch or coffee break.

Tips for your stop:

  • Parking can be limited, especially near Main Street; plan to arrive a little earlier to secure a spot.
  • Wear comfortable shoes; streets are steep and some areas are uneven.
  • Allow at least 2 hours to see the main sites and enjoy lunch without feeling rushed.

After Jerome, continue north toward Sedona along scenic Highway 89A for a beautiful drive through Oak Creek Canyon, which is a highlight in itself.
