Leisure morning walks with scenery

Hi All,

Looking at returning to the Big island in October/November after/for our 20 year anniversary. Have visited most islands multiple times and can’t wait to come back to the Big island. One of our favorite things to do is in Kihei area on Maui. We love to get up at sunrise and do a 4’ish mile (round trip) walk from a condo that has Hawaiian scenery. Hence, we are looking for something similar to the Eddie Pu trail that connects to a beach/shore line walk. We would be wanting to stay in a one bedroom condo that would allow for our early morning walks.

Any suggestions for area and or condos that would fit this bill are appreciated.

Mahola for any thoughts.

For a Big Island stay that allows for scenic morning walks similar to the Eddie Pu trail on Maui, focusing on areas with shoreline access, lava rock formations, and gentle paths is key. While the Big Island does not have as many paved coastal trails as Maui, there are some areas where you can enjoy a peaceful 4-mile roundtrip walk with beautiful Hawaiian scenery.

Recommended areas for your needs include:

  • Kailua-Kona Coast – Staying near Alii Drive gives you access to oceanfront sidewalks and paths connecting beaches, parks, and small shops. You can enjoy sunrise walks along the coastline with lava rock scenery and palm-lined streets. Condos and vacation rentals in this area often have one-bedroom options with ocean views.
  • Waikoloa Beach Resort – Offers a more resort-like atmosphere with paved pathways along the beach and lagoons. Many one-bedroom condos in Waikoloa Beach or Beach Villas offer access to easy morning walks, water views, and Hawaiian landscaping.
  • Hilo Bay – For a more lush, tropical feel, consider staying near Hilo Bay. There is a paved shoreline walkway along Banyan Drive and scenic spots connecting to parks, gardens, and the bay. One-bedroom condos or boutique rentals in Hilo offer quiet surroundings with easy access to nature.

Specific considerations for your morning walks:

  • Check if the condo or rental has immediate access to a coastal path or a safe shoreline area for walking.
  • Consider early sunrise safety—some trails or sidewalks may be less lit, so proximity to populated or resort areas can be beneficial.
  • For Hawaiian scenery, look for rentals near lava formations, palm trees, or oceanfront parks rather than strictly residential streets.

Overall, Kailua-Kona and Waikoloa are ideal for sunny, scenic, and relatively flat morning walks, while Hilo Bay offers a more tropical, green, and peaceful experience. Both areas have one-bedroom condos suitable for couples and will allow you to enjoy early morning walks with beautiful scenery for your anniversary stay.
