Casual dinner with large Family group
We are meeting the family from all over (Reno, Oklahoma,Wisconsin and New Zealand) for a celebration of life ceremony in Oahu. Can anyone suggest a casual dining place that would hold 19 of us and I can make a reservation in June? We are staying at the Embassy Suites Beach Walk but would have cars to transport if necessary. Thanks all
For a casual dinner on Oahu that can accommodate a large group of 19, you’ll want a place that is flexible with reservations, has ample seating, and offers a menu with variety to suit different tastes. Since you’re staying at the Embassy Suites Beach Walk in Waikiki, you have a lot of convenient options, but being willing to drive opens up more possibilities across Honolulu.
Here are some good options:
- Duke’s Waikiki:
- Classic beachfront restaurant in Waikiki, casual and family-friendly.
- Offers large group seating with advance notice and reservation.
- Menu features fresh seafood, steaks, Hawaiian specialties, and kid-friendly options.
- Great for a celebratory but relaxed atmosphere with ocean views.
- Tiki’s Grill & Bar:
- Located near the Ala Moana area with views of the Ala Wai Golf Course and lagoon.
- Known for casual Hawaiian fusion cuisine, burgers, and seafood.
- Can accommodate larger groups with reservations.
- Offers a festive yet laid-back environment.
- Roy’s Hawaii Kai (or Roy’s Waikiki):
- Hawaiian-fusion casual dining chain with local flavors and seafood emphasis.
- Can accommodate large parties with prior notice.
- Food is approachable for a mix of tastes; atmosphere is casual but slightly upscale.
- Tommy Bahama Restaurant & Bar (Waikiki):
- Offers indoor and outdoor casual seating; known for seafood, steaks, and island-inspired dishes.
- Good for large groups with reservations.
- Relaxed, tropical ambiance suitable for a celebratory gathering.
- Highway Inn (multiple Oahu locations):
- Local Hawaiian cuisine, casual and homey.
- Can handle large parties with prior reservation.
- Great option if you want authentic Hawaiian dishes like kalua pork, laulau, and poke without a formal setting.
Tips for Large Group Dining:
- Call at least 4-6 weeks in advance for a June reservation; large parties are hard to accommodate last minute.
- Ask about private or semi-private seating options; some restaurants can block off sections for your group.
- Consider a pre-set menu or family-style options to speed service and make it easier for everyone to order.
- If driving, plan for parking — Waikiki can be crowded, so restaurants with validated or nearby parking help.
Overall, for a casual yet celebratory atmosphere in Waikiki, Duke’s Waikiki or Tiki’s Grill & Bar would be my top picks, with the others as excellent alternatives if you want a slightly different vibe or cuisine style.
