Restaurant or takeout near airport?

We will be coming in on a Wednesday evening at 6:00 pm. We will want to get checked into our place in Kapaa but will be pretty hungry. Is there someplace we could stop and have a quick bite or take out that's not too far from the airport??

If you're landing around 6:00 pm and heading north toward Kapa‘a, there are several convenient spots very close to Līhu‘e Airport where you can grab a quick dinner or takeout before making the short drive to your lodging. Most places stay open past 7–8 pm, but hours can vary, so having a few options helps.

Below are the easiest and most reliable stops within just a few minutes of the airport, plus a few options in Kapa‘a if you decide to check in first and eat afterward.

Closest options to Līhu‘e Airport (1–5 minutes away)

  • Hamura Saimin – A Kauai classic and very close to the airport. Super fast, inexpensive, and iconic. They are known for their saimin bowls and BBQ sticks. Great for dine-in or quick takeout.
  • Rob’s Good Times Grill – Casual sports-bar style food, burgers, sandwiches, and local plates. Very quick service and open later than many spots.
  • Duke’s Kauai (at the Marriott Lagoon) – A little more of a sit-down experience, but still very close to the airport. Good option if you want a relaxed dinner before driving to Kapa‘a.
  • Pau Hana Market (food truck court) – About 5 minutes from the airport with multiple trucks including poke, tacos, plate lunches, and Thai food. Great if everyone wants something different.
  • Costco Food Court – Practical and fast if you want something inexpensive and quick before getting on the road.

Convenient stops on the way to Kapa‘a (10–15 minutes from the airport)

  • Safeway Kapa‘a – Deli & Hot Bar – Not glamorous, but incredibly convenient for quick grab-and-go meals, poke, rotisserie chicken, and snacks after a flight.
  • Pono Market – A local favorite for plate lunches, Hawaiian food, and poke. Check hours, as they may close earlier.
  • li>Chicken in a Barrel BBQ – Casual, filling, smoky BBQ plates right on the highway through Kapa‘a.
  • Kenji Burger – A more creative burger spot with Asian-fusion flavors, great for takeout.

Suggestions depending on your mood:

  • For super fast and easy: Safeway deli, Costco food court, Hamura Saimin.
  • For something more “local” right away: Hamura Saimin, Pono Market, Chicken in a Barrel.
  • For a sit-down meal close to the airport: Duke’s or Rob’s Good Times Grill.
  • For variety without committing to a restaurant: Pau Hana Market food trucks.

You won’t have trouble finding a good option that’s close, convenient, and quick. Stopping in Līhu‘e before heading to Kapa‘a is definitely the easiest plan after a flight, and all the above places are open long enough for your arrival time.
