We plan to visit in late June. I checked to see about trail openings to the falls and found the information below. Not being familiar with the area, I’m not sure of the takeaway. Is the main trail to the falls open?
From the State Park website:
The Burney Creek Trail from the intersection of the Falls Loop Trail at Rainbow Bridge north to the intersection of the Rim Trail is closed due to significant erosion from storm damage. To access the Lake Britton picnic area by trail, please use the Rim Trail.
The PSEA Trail from the intersection of the Falls Loop Trail at Rainbow Bridge north to the PSEA Camp is closed due to significant erosion from storm damage.
Based on the information from the Burney Falls State Park website, the closures you referenced affect specific sections of the trails, but they do not close off access to the main viewpoint of Burney Falls itself. The main Falls Loop Trail, which takes you to the primary viewing area, is still open to visitors. The closures are mainly for trails that extend north from the Rainbow Bridge intersection or to areas like the PSEA Camp and Lake Britton picnic area.
In practical terms, this means you can still enjoy the main fall viewing and most of the central loop without issue. The closed sections are more relevant if you were planning to do extended hikes beyond the main falls area.
For your late June visit, the park should be fully accessible on the main paths, and you will have great views of the falls. You may want to plan your visit for early morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds and enjoy cooler temperatures.
Overall, you can confidently plan a visit to Burney Falls in late June, focusing on the main falls trail for the best and safest experience.
