Lockers or Luggage Storage in Dali
Me and my friends (7 people in total) will be doing a day trip from Lijiang to Dali. After spending the day exploring, we’ll take a train straight to Kunming from Dali Railway Station. Since we won’t be staying overnight in Dali, we’re hoping to find a place to store our luggage for a few hours during the day (preferably near to Dali railway station).
I’ve seen some older posts mentioning lockers or storage at the train station or nearby hotels, but they’re from a few years ago. Does anyone know if luggage storage is still available there at the moment? Any recent experience or tips would really help!
Yes, luggage storage in Dali is still available, and it can be convenient for travelers doing a day trip without staying overnight. There are a few options near Dali Railway Station and in the Old Town area.
At Dali Railway Station:
- The station has a left-luggage service (行李寄存), where you can store your bags for a few hours or a full day. The counters are usually located near the main entrance or ticket hall. Staff may speak limited English, so having your destination and train ticket information ready is helpful.
- Storage fees are generally inexpensive, around ¥10–¥15 per bag for a few hours.
Nearby hotels and guesthouses:
- Many hotels, even if you’re not staying overnight, are willing to store luggage for a few hours, especially if you explain your situation. This is more common in the Old Town area than directly at the station.
- If you plan to explore Dali Old Town, you could leave your bags at a hotel there, then take a short taxi or e-bike ride to the railway station later to catch your train.
Practical tips:
- Arrive at the railway station at least 45–60 minutes before your train departure, especially if you have luggage, to allow time for storage, ticket checks, and boarding.
- For a group of 7, it’s wise to check with the storage counter or a hotel in advance, as space may be limited during busy travel times.
- If you have particularly large or numerous bags, consider consolidating or using a taxi to transport them to a hotel with storage to avoid carrying them through crowded areas.
Overall, Dali Railway Station’s luggage storage service is still operational and is the most convenient option if you want to travel light during your day in Dali before heading to Kunming.
