First time in Savanah...

Could anyone tell me which area they recommend? We're either thinking the Hamilton Turner House (We love historic areas) or should we stay the River with so much to do. We can't decide!

Both the Hamilton Turner House and the River Street area offer unique experiences, and either would be a great choice depending on what you're looking for in your stay. Let me break down the pros and cons of each area to help you decide:

Hamilton Turner House (Historic District)

If you love historic areas, the Hamilton Turner House is a fantastic option. Located in the heart of Savannah’s historic district, this area is full of beautiful squares, charming streets, and classic Southern architecture. The Hamilton Turner House itself is a stunning example of a historic mansion, and staying here will place you in a picturesque neighborhood, walking distance to some of the city's most iconic landmarks.

  • Pros: Close to historic squares, churches, and museums. Perfect for those who want to immerse themselves in the history and charm of Savannah. The area is quieter compared to River Street, making it ideal for a relaxing, scenic stay.
  • Cons: While it's a lovely, peaceful area, it’s not as lively or bustling as the River Street area. You'll need to walk or take a short ride to the riverfront and some of the more tourist-heavy attractions.

River Street (Waterfront)

River Street is the heart of Savannah’s waterfront and is always bustling with activity. If you enjoy being near the action, with plenty of shops, restaurants, and things to do, staying near the river might be the better option. The views of the Savannah River are fantastic, and there’s always something going on, from street performers to boat tours.

  • Pros: Located right on the riverfront with tons of restaurants, bars, shops, and attractions within walking distance. Great for people who want to be in the middle of the action and enjoy the energy of Savannah's lively waterfront.
  • Cons: River Street can be crowded and noisy, especially in the evenings and weekends. The area can also be more tourist-oriented, which might not appeal to those looking for a quieter, more historic experience.

Conclusion:

If your main goal is to experience the history and charm of Savannah, with a quieter, more picturesque stay, I recommend the Hamilton Turner House in the historic district. However, if you're looking for a lively atmosphere with easy access to restaurants, shops, and riverfront activities, then River Street is the place to be. Both options have their own appeal, so it really comes down to whether you prefer a quieter, more relaxed environment or a more vibrant, busy setting.
