We’ll be in Boothbay Harbor around October 15 for 2 nights. Typically are a lot of restaurants closed at that time of year or not? Will there be any excursions on the water available or will it be too cold? TIA
Visiting Boothbay Harbor in mid-October can be a quieter, more relaxed experience compared to the busy summer months. Many tourists have left by then, so the town is much less crowded. However, this also means that some seasonal restaurants and excursions may be closed or have limited hours.
Restaurants:
By mid-October, most of the larger, year-round restaurants in Boothbay Harbor remain open, but smaller, seasonal spots may start to close. You can still enjoy good dining options, especially in the downtown harbor area.
Excursions and activities:
Mid-October can be a bit chilly for long boat rides, but excursions are still possible depending on weather and the operators’ schedules. Expect cooler temperatures, so dress warmly if you plan to go on the water.
Other activities to consider during mid-October include exploring local shops, walking along the harbor, visiting the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens (a short drive away), or enjoying scenic drives along the coast to see fall foliage.
Overall, while some seasonal restaurants and excursions may be closed by October 15, there are still plenty of dining options and ways to enjoy the harbor and surrounding Mid Coast Maine. Planning ahead and checking availability will ensure a smooth and enjoyable visit.
