Rory's Place?

Eater LA highly recommends Rory's Place, but I am reading mixed reviews.

We will only be in Ojai with friends for two nights, and I want to be sure we eat at a good place.

Can anyone comment on Rory's? Some reviews say the staff is rude and they felt rushed to eat and get out. Others praise the food, but mostly not the service.

Appreciate your comments in advance, thanks!

Rory's Place in Ojai has developed a reputation for serving high-quality, fresh, and creative dishes, which is why it often receives recognition from outlets like Eater LA. Many visitors praise the flavors, presentation, and the use of local ingredients, making it an appealing choice for a special meal during a short stay.

However, the mixed reviews you’ve seen largely reflect experiences with the service rather than the food itself. Reports of staff being rushed or abrupt are not uncommon, and some diners have felt pressured to finish their meals quickly. This may vary depending on the day, time, or how busy the restaurant is.

Here are some considerations to help you decide:

  • If your priority is exceptional food and a chance to try innovative dishes, Rory's Place is worth a visit despite occasional service issues.
  • For a more relaxed, leisurely dining experience, you might consider visiting during off-peak hours (earlier in the evening or on a weekday) to avoid feeling rushed.
  • It’s a small, intimate setting, so reservations are recommended to ensure seating and to minimize wait times, which can also improve the service experience.

Other popular alternatives in Ojai that consistently get positive reviews for both food and service include:

  • The Ranch House – known for locally sourced ingredients and a cozy atmosphere.
  • Azu Restaurant & Bar – Mediterranean-inspired menu with attentive service.
  • Cibo – casual Italian dining with high-quality dishes and friendly staff.

In summary, Rory's Place is likely to deliver a memorable culinary experience if you focus on the food. If service style is a high priority for your group, it may be worth considering one of the alternative Ojai restaurants for a more relaxed vibe. With only two nights in town, planning ahead and making reservations will maximize your chances of a positive experience.
